The food is pretty average. Haven't been surprised by any flavor or presentation. My wagyu don is kind of disappointing to me, I expected seeing red medium rare meat but the meat is kinda grey and too thin. Sumiyaki pot is well flavored, tend light but I like it. Others were pretty average flavor it should be. Restaurant is pretty clean, I recommend to replace some chipped dishes to pair the ambiance. This is my new favorite Japanese restaurant in Seattle. The food: outstanding. Varied, fairly-priced, and delicious. From sukiyaki to takoyaki, sashimi to skewers, they've got it all, and it's great. Came here for their AYCE Sunday yakitori menu. For the price, we thought it was a good value as there were appetizers and donburi bowls as well that we could order. There's a reduced fee if your kid is participating. The highlights for us were the tebasaki, momo and gyusuji. We also enjoyed the grilled zucchini. Yakitori came out pretty quickly and even though you're limited to 3 skewers per person we had more than enough time to finish our meal within the 90 minute limit. Hello Yelpers, This is my second time eating here and I have the say I really love the ambiance! They play really good music and the vibes are banger. We ordered skewers and donburi and they do be hitting . I think the hidden smoky undertones is what makes the food smack, the us wagyu is juicy and explodes on ur tongue with so much flavor. The salmon is fresh and and melts in ur mouth. If you come here I highly recommend getting any type of meat skewers to pair with the donburi bowl, it makes the meal very filling and allows for you to taste different flavor profiles. The Japanese skewers were amazing and we tried a few ranging from chicken, pork, to eel, with salad and chicken katsu in between. We went during the day and the service was quick and snappy, with attentive waiters and a responsive ordering system via a QR code tableside. I've only been there once, but was left satisfied. There were 3 of us and we ordered some skewers, small dish set, and a donburi for each. The skewers were chicken skin, cartilage, beef and beef tongue, all in tare sauce. Chicken skin was my favorite, all of us enjoyed it, even the one who was grossed out by the fact that it's chicken skin lol. The beef tongue was thick tube shape, well cooked, and I thought the tough texture isn't to my liking. The tare sauce made the skewers delicious nonetheless. My friends ordered the wagyu donburi, sashimi donburi, and mine was the uni ikura donburi. When I asked where the uni came from, the server answered Japan. It was delightful to hear that, because Japan has one of the best, if not, the best uni in the world! When it arrived, I find it a pleasant surprise for the amount. It did tasted a little bitter, but it's summer and uni season is winter, a heck lot better than other places this time of the year. I had super high hopes for Shinya Shokudo, but felt that the food was a mixed bag of pure joy and pure sadness. I ordered carryout, so maybe the dine-in experience is better, but I cannot comment on that. Let's start with the good: Hotate Gai (scallops), Buta No Kubiniku (pork neck), Cheese Tsukune (meatball), Kawa (chicken skins), and Tamagoyaki (egg) were excellent. Flavor, tenderness, doneness, etc. spot on. Now the bad (and there are a lot of them): Miyazaki A5 Wagyu, US Wagyu, Wagyu Sukiyaki, Dry Aged Prime New York, Kamo No Muneniku (duck), Gyu Tan Moto (tongue), Momo (chicken thigh), and Garlic Beef were all not good. Overcooked, dry, and some were burnt. These all came well-done, which should have been closer to medium-rare or medium to retain the juiciness and flavor. The A5 wagyu was the most disappointing because we love A5 wagyu and this was expensive ($18 for 1 small skewer), and this was the first time ever that we thought it was bad. Gyusuji (described as beef tendon) - this might be the worst thing I've ever eaten. It's basically fat and gristle/silver skin. I've had tendon before and it's an Asian delicacy. This was not like any tendon I have ever eaten, and it's more like the beef scraps that people cut off and throw away. I could only stomach 2 bites and threw out the rest. This is the only dish that we had to actually throw out. We were able to finish even the bad ones (although we were starving after a long flight). So I ended up spending $160 in an attempt to try almost everything. Unfortunately, I think it's was grossly overpriced as I could have gotten very high quality food elsewhere. The items that were good were actually decent and I might get those again. But basically avoid all the beef dishes because they are cooked waaaay over what they should be. read more

Saw so many people trying this place on social media so had to give it a try! I came here with my friend on a Friday night. We made a reservation but I think you could also just do a walk-in (there were still some tables open). You order through your phone and we were able to get our food in around 10 minutes. Food Review: Small Dish Set (8/10): This appetizer came with 6 different items to try. There was grilled scallops, salmon, tamago, karaage, takoyaki, and seaweed salad. Everything tasted really good but I especially liked the grilled scallops! This sampler set is $10 which I think is a reasonable price for the variety of food you get. The reason I took 2 points off is because some of the items were things I could probably get myself at a japanese market (ex. seaweed salad and tamago). I did enjoy the presentation of this set though! Wagyu Tataki Donburi (7/10): I was really excited for this but I was a bit disappointed. I found the wagyu to be a bit too chewy for my liking and so it was a bit tiring to eat. The rice on the bottom was really good though and my friend said it was her favorite part. Mentaiko Creamy Udon (10/10): I'm always a fan of creamy udon and I definitely approve of this one. I liked the texture of the noodles and the sauce had a good balance of saltiness and the cod flavoring wasn't overbearing. I'd definitely recommend this place and would come back again! read more

I was just visiting and maybe the standards are different in Seattle, but this is the worst teriyaki I had in my life. I had the AYCE experience, but it was really easy to not meet the full time limit. Maybe their a la carte items are good, but this quality for AYCE is unbearable and sad. The best item was zucchini. The chicken was really dry and drenched in sauce. The karrage was not karrage, it's literally just pieces of chicken fried and it was really salty. read more

For me, this restaurant is 3.5/5 for me. They provide excellent service with servers checking in frequently to deliver our orders and refill our drinks so average out to 4/5. The restaurant focuses on yakitori so I had high expectations to the skewers. I was more impressed with their non-skewer dishes. I ordered the small dish set, chawanmushi, wagyu tataki donburi, and mentaiko creamy udon. For yakitori, I ordered momo, kawa, kamo no muneniku, saikyo miso beef, and buta no kubiniku. The smoked salmon has a great texture and perfect to eat with rice; a bit too salty by itself. The crab salad and seaweed salad were a bit bland for me. The scallop is seared well with a great texture. The tamago was too sweet to my liking. I highly recommend the mentaiko creamy udon and chawanmushi. It was creamy but not too heavy; umami flavor from the mentaiko. Chawanmushi was delicious. The wagyu tataki donburi was delicious but the rice was undercooked so a bit disappointed. Out of all the yakitori ordered, my favorites were buta no kubiniku (pork neck) and kamo no muneniku with tender meat and great flavor. Momo was bland and wish the thigh pieces were marinaded. A friend and I went here for lunch and managed to be seated immediately without reservations. I wasn't aware of reservations but it is strongly recommended apparently. For lunch, they gave us a choice of sweetened black or green tea for free, which is a nice touch to service. We got the mentaiko creamy udon, shiso leaf chicken, kawa (chicken skin), A5 wagyu, and miso beef skewers. It was a lighter lunch but you would need to order more to be full. The udon is super creamy and there's a nice balance of seafood flavor from the roe. I greatly enjoyed it and it reminded me of Marugame Monzo's high quality udon. It was the carb for our meal. The A5 wagyu skewer is pretty fatty but super tender and somewhat melt in your mouth. It's a nice experience but I personally won't get something like this as much. Although I eat a lot of chicken and can get tired of it, the chicken skewers are very juicy and tender. The beef skewer, on the other hand, was a bit rough. Chicken skewers are almost half the price so it would be a great filler to order more of those if you are not full. I did enjoy the kawa (chicken skin) skewer as it was crispy and the tare sauce did not make it soggy. It was a bit salty, though. Service is amazing as my water glass is always full and we didn't need to wait too long for requests to be fulfilled. read more

Decent izakaya - it uses a QR code menu ordering system but note although you can place orders on different devices, it comes on one bill at the end. The best dish was easily the wagyu donburi and shinya salad surprisingly. The salad was huge and had a good mix of vegetables. The skewers were okay - my favorite was the chicken cartilage and A5 wagyu (which is really cost prohibitive). I didn't initially mix the donburi well enough so just note most of the sauce is at the bottom of the bowl! One plus is that the menu has some decent vegetarian offerings for those who want to go to an izakaya but don't eat meat. Some of the skewers ran a bit dry (maybe due to small portion). The zaru soba could've benefited from grated daikon- it was too simple (and not chilled enough). read more

One of the better okra preparation I have had. Eringi, $3.50 - 3 Stars Menu: eryngii mushroom with tare sauce, aka king oyster mushrooms These are nice and meaty bite of mushroom pieces, but it doesn't absorb the tare sauce as well. Hotate Salad, $10 - 4 Stars Menu: grilled scallop, mixed vegetable, and corn with soy sauce This is one of the more ordinary dishes compared to the other dishes, but it tasted good and had plenty of scallops so I'm not complaining. I came here a couple months ago and loved it so much that it was my first stop when I came to visit Seattle for the weekend. I highly recommend making reservations. I came around the time they open and still had to wait an hour for a table. I wish their communication was better though because they said it would be an hour wait and they would let me know when my table was ready but when I came back an hour later, it was as if they were waiting for me to come back in instead of reaching out to me that the table was ready... Anyways... onto the food review BEST Mentaiko Udon I have ever had!! So creamy and flavorful! It may seem like a small portion but it was enough to satisfy a craving even when I shared half with my husband. They have so many skewers that it's easy to order way more than necessary. This time around I only ordered the gizzards (which I loved) and the scallops (which I would skip because it was over cooked and dry). Overall, one of my go to places in Seattle!
