One has two sitting options : the deck where the wait is definitely much shorter than the beach side where people tend to linger soaking the sun. If you are in a hurry and want to enjoy the views, get the deck but if you want to eat with the feet in the sand , expect to wait up to an hour on Sunday around 1 pm like we did. You are then rewarded with beautiful direct ocean views. The service was prompt and the beer cold. We had grilled shrimp tacos with a corn soft tortilla and the fish of the day was a snapper served with sticky rice, both average in flavors and presentations. The salad served with the fish looked sad, the slaw had way too much mayo and the rice rather glutinous.( really sticky). The shrimps did not have any special seasoning and were a little bland. Shoreline is right- we enjoyed our beach side, self seated high top. It was a half moon wooden table protruding from the wall but given the 25 minute wait for a table it worked just fine for us. Really you can't go wrong with a view quite like that. Sunbathers were laying out on the sand in front of the restaurant and beyond them was the gorgeous waves crashing on the shore. We watched kite surfers and jet powered surfboard surfers cruise the water on this windy day. The fresh air, and dolphin spotting makes this place a delight. There is an overhang to provide shade or you can soak up the sun. A walk up ordering station is around the corner from the self seating area or you can choose to have table service by seeing the hostess. We did self serve and only stopped in for a drink. I can understand why some said it's pricey but with a view like that, I think it's worth the price. A house glass of wine is $7- I really don't think that's bad. Also the portions looked substantial from what I could see and the waitresses were all very friendly. Tons of locals turn up here and I can see why. We intend to return as we just can't get enough of an open air beach view quite like this. read more

I've been going there since it was the Beach Burger in the early 80's. I now live in Ventura but met up with some friends there for lunch today. Thinking that Santa Barbara was certainly as pet friendly as Ventura is, I was shocked to see "NO DOGS ALLOWED" in bold letters at the hostess desk. This goes for their patio and outside areas too. After driving up there with my little dog, obviously eating there wasn't an option. My friends arrived so I let them know we would have to order take-out and go to a picnic table at Leadbetter Beach. The take-out menu was very small and only featured high-fat and fried foods--not our style. They wouldn't let us order off of the regular menu. Out of 4 of us, none of us ordered food. We got some iced tea and lemonade and headed over to Leadbetter for a visit. Another lady in line had the same experience--came from out of town and now had to go somewhere else or leave her dog in the car. I wouldn't recommend their take-out menu if you are health conscious and certainly don't go there with your four legged friend. It's sad because for so many years, it was one of my "go to" places. Yesterday a couple of our friends mentioned this place to us. They had been before and really loved it. So we made a beeline to it right away. So glad we did! Literally right on the beach and since it was a weekday, there was no wait. We sat at one of the tables in the sand and enjoyed the view of the waves rolling in and people strolling by with their dogs. Our waiter was really nice and the other patrons were friendly. The food was pretty good too for standard fare. My husband had the shrimp and chips and I had the fish and chips. The fish and shrimp were seasoned and cooked well and the chips were perfect. Along with some beer and the sun setting as we relaxed, it was the perfect end to our day. We will definitely make sure we come back again when we return to Santa Barbara! read more

This place is wonderful to sit at as it is right on Ledbetter beach in Santa Barbara. The service is very good and it is very clean and pleasant. It's our first time in this restaurant and love the fact that one can have their bare feet on the sand by the beach front while eating. The food is fine except for the seafood soup that I have them take back and replace with clam chowder since the broth of the seafood soup is so bland and no taste at all. Otherwise the fried calamari and salmon entree were great. My partner ordered the Mahi mahi which is equally delicious. I've been here several times in my life, always when visiting friends in Santa Barbara, and always at an 'off' time for a meal (meaning at a point in the afternoon where there's still a chance to get seated quickly without waiting with the hoards at peak meal times!). I feel fortunate that I've been able to sit inside and outside, enjoy good service, delicious and fresh food, and feel a little like I was the only person being waited on. I have very fond memories, and always look forward to going here when I'm in town. First, the food and service: Great specials, an extensive menu, and a wait staff that goes the extra mile. On our most recent visit, my sister and I decided to split a chocolate milk shake and a bowl of chowder, and then got guacamole, fish tacos and an order of ahi tuna. Our waitress actually split the shake for us into two smaller glasses, and split the soup into two smaller bowls. In my experience at popular and touristy places, that's pretty rare, and it was a great touch. The shake was perfect (and half was the perfect portion), the chowder delicious and the fish and guac very fresh, seasoned well and satisfying. Second, the location. Paid parking if you are driving, seating inside and out, and RIGHT ON THE BEACH. You really can't beat the location. There are tables under umbrellas right on the sand, plus spots inside where the breeze is buffered by plexiglass windows. I will definitely be back again! read more

I had the Fish and Chips which was decent, though the breading did not cling well to the fish-- on the plus side, it was not as greasy as Fish and Chips tends to be! I also tried the fish taco which suffered from the same problem, leading to the breading separating and becoming soggy in the sauce before you've had a chance to take a bite. The atmosphere was placid and allowed for conversation at a normal level-- though we were more focused on the lapping waves to our side.
