We had such a great time and the food was great! Our server (I believe her name was Sidney?) was such a delight! For appetizers we got the clam chowder, not shy on the clam, was very tasty and a side salad with maple bacon vinaigrette, nice and refreshing. Something called to me to get the crab cake and since it's an appetizers I ordered that with a side of street corn. Upon first sight, I felt maybe they went a bit light on the remoulade but the flavor from the crab cake itself was incredible, and the remoulade was a nice enhancement. Any more would've overpowered the flavor of the crab cake itself. They did it right and the street corn was also delicious. Pimento Cheese Rockefeller Shucks pimento cheese and jalapeño pepper jelly. I didn't know what to expect from this but we are adventurous and I'm glad. This may be my favorite of the evening! We also got the Butter Parmesan Rockefeller which was heavenly. Next onto the raw oysters. We opted for gulf, Virginia, and NC and ended up ordering more VA & NC. Normally I use lot of horseradish and coctail sauce but the mignonette was so delicious that about half way through I only used that. Finally, and I wish I had gotten a picture, we talked ourselves into getting the crème brûlée cheesecake, diets be damned. I love crème brûlée and the hubby loves cheesecake. This became apparent when after a few bites we made a deal that I eat the top and he can have the bottom this was a win win for us! All the food was a hit, we loved our server, and the location and ambiance! Not only will we be back, I could see us becoming regulars. The hubby loves raw oysters/seafood and I'm coming around. The restaurant has great service. The owners are friendly and the food is delicious. There is limited seating, but you can sit at the bar. The oysters are so fresh. The shellfish is out of this world. I had the 1/2 plate of the dungeness crab. (3 knuckles). The crab was juicy and full of meat served with melted butter. My husband had the Parmesan garlic oysters and they were seasoned beautifully. The street corn was delicious. The corn was seasoned with pickling spices which gives it an addictive flavor, sooooo good!!! The key lime pie takes you back to the beaches of Florida. The table next to us had 3 pearls in their oysters (rare) finds. They are that fresh! Enjoy this locally owned business. read more

I was so excited when Shucks opened. Mom and Pop bought it for their kid and it was great having fresh shucked raw oysters in Anderson. This and that happened over the years which brings us to the present: not great. And when you're talking about raw anything not great is...you know? The head shucker, who says she's the BOSS was a bit surly...along with inattentive. The oysters I had were not washed-resulting in black mud on your hands. Not a problem if you're the dainty fork using type-but not good if you're the "slurp from the shell" type. Also, the combat style of shucking employed results in LOTS of broken shell shards in every oyster. Tuna tartare is still pretty good but I miss the crisps that used to accompany it. The flat bread is a poor substitute. Our typical tab for two is $100. For that I'd like more attention to detail: presentation, service, etc. read more

Went to Shucks for our first time on Thursday evening with our friends that go weekly. We loved it and enjoyed several dozen oysters. My husband ordered the Peel and shrimp boil with a fresh baguette. He also thought the seasoning was perfect ! I ordered the crawfish muffins and thought they were a little bit too hot but my friend loved him and ate all mine ! I like small oysters so I was happy when I saw that they had James River oysters from Virginia. We went during happy hour so the oysters were a dollar a piece. There were two other kinds of oysters one from Alabama and .... sorry can't remember other place. They were great and their cocktail sauce is the best I have ever had... and I consider myself a connoisseur of cocktail sauce! It seems every time I visit downtown Anderson, new restaurants and businesses are popping up. One of the latest additions...Shucks Oyster Bar. Shucks is not a restaurant that serves oysters. They are truly an oyster bar. Raw oysters, steamed oysters or specials (like Oysters Rockafeller) - they've got them. They have a few other side items, like a delicious and spicy crawfish corn bread, but they're obviously focusing on what they want to do best. So...the oysters. We got a selection of raw and steamed. They were fresh and had a good selection of side sauces. There was some inconsistency in the shucking, with some not quite separated from the shell, and a few broken bits of shell, but not so much to detract from our enjoyment. The atmosphere is vibrant. Expect a bit of a wait for a table, and you'll be elbow to elbow with other diners, however not in a bad way. Grab a beer, relax and expect a good time. read more

I was a huge supporter of this place for a long time and I simply can no longer do it. The tater tots I didn't order were raw. The tuna tar tar we did order had frozen slush in it and the lobster roll was not even edible due the rubber ball texture and amount of old bay piled on. Oysters were questionable at best. Shucks Oyster Bar Smoked Oyster Deviled Egg Creamy, but with the perfect balance of smokiness and saltiness from the oyster. I could have ordered 1/2 dozen more. Shucks have their own "house hot sauce." I highly recommend eating your oysters with this 4-month bourbon barrel aged sauce. The smokiness of just a few drops will be the perfect accompaniment to your oysters. Don't let the "hot sauce" term scare you away, it is not too spicy, even for a wimp for hot foods, like me. The jalapeño popper oysters were very good & the service was good.... however the Bayou Cajun Shrimp was overcooked and lacking flavor as was the Shucks double burger and the cucumber salad. The Mexican Street corn was refreshingly tasty., however, the tuna tartar was undeniably the worst I have ever ingested. I've never had tuna tartar with such a chewy and fatty consistency, like a chewy piece of steak... my advice is DO NOT ORDER if you are accustomed to sushi grade tuna. My wife and I made our first visit to Shuck's this evening, and we were not disappointed! For starters, we tried the smoked oyster deviled egg, steamed gulf oysters, and jalapeno pimento cheese spread with pepper jelly and toasted garlic pita chips. Okay, I had the oysters, and Lisa and I shared the spread. (She doesn't eat oysters.) For entrees, we each ordered a shrimp burger, which was a tasty patty of whole shrimp and andoulle sausage. We did start with a dozen James River that were top notch accompanied with Brewery 85 draft beers. Oysters were followed by a house-smoked salmon, served with a pesto and aioli. Great presentation!
