Eh... it's alright. I've noticed that Thai restaurants usually concentrate more on the sweet, or more on the spicy. Spicy is my preference, but Siam Taste was all on the sweet. The roti is yummy and their green papaya salad was good, but the curry wasn't as spicy as I would've liked and there wasn't very much chicken in it. The staff is really friendly, and it's nice if you want a quiet place to eat instead of trying to talk over the middle-aged drunk people across the street at Tao Tao's. read more

Too late, I had already had lunch here before I checked Yelp reviews. The quality of the food -- not good. The soup was overly salty. I brought my girlfriend here largely because she hasn't been to Sunnyvale downtown. On Valentine's Day and the Chinese New Year, Murphy Ave was as presentable as post-war Berlin. About half of the businesses chose to close due to Murphy Ave renovation, and the sidewalks on both sides were dug up. So the state of affairs are a bit "depressed" so to speak. When we walked into Siam Taste, we found ourselves the only patrons, but still outnumbered the waiting staff by 100%. We ordered a crispy cat fish and a rack of lamb. Despite the fact that my girlfriend of not a big fan of lamb, the stirred fried string beans are simply amazing. Fried catfish is about as mundane it gets for a fish dish, but the spicy sauce and vegetables again made it stand out. The meat itself is great too, although it's hard to make a rack of lamb or a fried fish exceptional. All of all it met our high Valentine's Day expectation - at a somewhat steep price. They have really good lunch special rates. Their food is pretty good- my favorite go do dish is the garlic pan fried noodles. Their roti- is not that great. roti should be hand-tossed, not pulled out of the freezer. Coconut Groove in Milpitas has the best roti! they can improve on their service. I have to admit- I keep coming back for the food though- (since it's close to my job and house) it's like one of those bad relationships- you want to leave but you don't want to take the trouble to try something new. I had green curry. The taste was nothing special, but most importantly, the dish size was too small with only few pieces of chicken.

After Basil got too popular and expanded too fast, I realized that Siam was actually a pretty good fallback. Roast duck curry was pretty good and they accommodated our large group nicely outside. The service maybe a bit on the slow side, especially if you have a large group, however I think the quality of the good makes up for it. I can see many reviews varying wildly from folks that I know but I guess maybe there's days where they're on and they're off. Guess Im glad I hit them on a good one. read more

I came out with my colleagues for lunch on a Friday. We tried getting a table at multiple restaurants but there was a minimum of 20-30 mins wait time. We finally decided to go to Siam taste as there were tables available. There were lunch specials which came with soup and salad, wonton and spring roll. This is the closest authentic Thai restaurant around the south bay area in my opinion! Great taste, and their ingredients are amazing :) Got the padwoon sen, barbeque grilled chicken, and somtum. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great!! We came here on a pretty quiet Saturday night while being greeting by no one. The owner/server was busy serving his friends, err tables and we finally made eye contact with the cook who signaled us to just sit down. The food was delicious. We started out with the Papaya Salad then had the Roasted Duck Curry and Catfish Curry. Sure, both are red curries but they're our favorites and we get them everywhere we go. Since I live in Sunnyvale, this would be a good place to get take out, but I wouldn't eat in again. To end my review, I have to state my biggest complaint. The owner/server has disgusting body odor. He has an odor that lingers after he leaves and it really disrupts the meal. Like I said, the food was still great but man, after a while, I just learned to hold my breath whenever he came by. My brother, Mother and I decided to order Thai food for our dinner on Sunday night. It was so awesome how they were able to serve me items that weren't in their online menu and so cool how they are working well to set up an organized environment during this Covid-19 shit show. The team at Siam has managed their to go system in a way that's efficient, clean and organized. The food was off the hook specially the BBQ chicken and pad Thai. I also enjoyed the desert of fried banana and ice cream. I haven't been able to enjoy something so delightful since we went in lock down all over the Bay Area. Was in town and brought a friend to show around the heritage District and we chose this little place since the menu seemed a little bit more authentic and different than most other Thai restaurants. Boy we were so glad we did. The meals were cooked with love and the presentation was extraordinary. I had the lamb curry which I strongly recommend, the meat was so soft and tender and not tough and chewy as you would get at other restaurants. My friend had a chicken curry And the spices and Flavor were very well done and presented in What seems to be traditional Thai tableware. Honestly I haven't had Thai food that was this good since the last time I was in Thailand. Fair warning is a unlike most places they will ask you to choose your spice preference on a scale from 1 to 10 as they do it in a more traditional Thai way of 1 to 7 and the spices are very hot. I chose a 5 and I typically like things a little more spicier and it was a little too hot for me so I would recommend anyone to start off with a 2 or 3 spice level. The service is really good considering that there was only one person that day who was taking orders and serving. It is family owned and operated so please be kind to the servers and owner since service workers are in short demand right now and they may be a little slower to deliver your food than normal. But the wait is worth it. read more

This Thai restaurant stands out from the rest for the simple fact that it has a large, separate vegetarian menu. Only a few other Thai joints in the Bay Area can claim the same (Blue Mango with 2 locations in San Jose, Basil Cha Cha in Foster City, and Green Papaya in Berkeley). The food here is also just a shade above average, but it's not spectacular by any means. I had a spicy baby corn with basil ($10), a red curry with soy protein ($10) and an order of brown rice ($2). The baby corn dish was just your average soy sauce-based stir-fry, but they made it just perfectly spicy (to make you feel it, but not to regret it). The fried tofu in the dish looked limp, though, and there wasn't much of it. In general, the portion size on this dish was small. The red curry had a hearty taste and was above average. I prefer the curries at Blue Mango (which use higher grade and thicker coconut milk), but this one was decent too. The soy protein in the dish, however, was weird: it was just long flat shreds of white stuff that was sort of firm and sort of soft. In the future, I would just get this dish with tofu, as I didn't care for the texture of the soy protein (it should have been firmer). Like most Asian restaurants in the Bay, you get charged for rice. At least they had a nice variety of brown rice and they give you a substantial portion, too (not just one of those small cups that most places use). I am vegan and while I appreciated the separate vegetarian menu, I didn't appreciate the sloppiness of the kitchen, which resulted in one piece of actual chicken in my curry, and one piece of pork in my stir-fry. I'm not super picky about this type of contamination, but it's a sign of laziness; for many vegans and vegetarians, it's simply unacceptable and Siam Taste would do well to clean up its act. The service was friendly but the restaurant lacks any ambiance. A large tv is mounted up front and it plays random images and news from Thailand, in Thai. In conclusion, Siam Taste is respectable, but nothing great. I'd rather go to Blue Mango, which is the best Thai food I've had in the Bay Area. read more

Downtown sunnyvale isn't so bad. Had the shredded fried catfish and seafood aladdin. The shredded catfish was sort like those fried taro puffs you get at dim sum, but just the breading, the catfish was hard to find. The seafood aladdin was pretty good. The place isn't really worth a review, but I have to add in words to make it qualify as a review (and not a tip) No one really received us at the entrance. Short staffed with two guys only. Pretty empty a place on a Saturday evening. Grumpy man called out to us to be seated at a table where he was standing. Grumpy woman took the order. No pleases or thank yous. We had spicy corn cakes (8.95$) and they were far away from spicy. Chicken Pad Thai (10.95$) was okay, and we ate it only because we were very hungry. The chicken in the pad Thai was chewy and uggh. Same was the case with the Thai Green Chicken Curry (10.95$). A okay with chewy chicken. Overall, Okayish food with extremely grouchy service. Decided to give this place a try because it's pretty close to my house but I must say I'm not a huge fan. Ordered Pad Thai to play it safe. It was just okay. It came with carrots which I haven't seen before but that's fine, they were on top so easy enough to remove. But the pad Thai itself was on the dry s. You can kinda tell from the picture. Visited here on a Wednesday evening, it was quite empty and we were able to get table quickly. I ordered a roti and Thai massaman curry medium spicy. Roti was standard flaky bread. However the peanut sauce that came with it wasn't as flavorful, you could only taste honey and peanuts in liquid form. For ~$9 it's definitely not worth it. Thai massaman curry - I have been to plenty of Thai restaurants in bay area and generally spice levels in Thai restaurants are representative of the options (mild,medium,spicy). Siam wasn't up to that standard. My curry was very sweet, that was the overpowering taste. My friend ordered a mild coconut curry and that was more hot than my medium spice level curry. My curry had pineapple in it which only added to the sweetness. It had a layer of oil on it, which made it look very unattractive. Curry came with serving of sticky rice which was well cooked. The curry burned $12 hole in my pocket. The service in the restaurant isn't top notch, servers behave grumply sometimes. Ambience isn't great either. Overall I wouldn't recommend going to this place, food is unidimensional and not at all value for money. Dish or ditch it ? Definitely ditch it. read more

On a balmy Sunday afternoon, Siam Taste served as a refreshing retreat. The service was excellent. My companion and I are both vegetarians, and we were given one vegetarian menu. Within minutes, the waitress noticed that I was not looking at a menu, and asked if we would like another vegetarian menu, completely unprompted. I was very impressed by their vegetarian selection, overall. The wine selection was also excellent. Whoever chose those particular vintages has exquisite taste. We took advantage of the 2-for-1 weekend deal, and treated ourselves to a lovely Blush wine. I highly, highly recommend it. We particularly enjoyed it before the meal, but it wasn't a poor choice to complement our dishes. The water was refreshing, with a hint of lemon. Our waitress kept our glasses filled throughout the meal. I tried the Eggplant with Green Curry, which was absolutely succulent. I asked for 'hot', and hot it was! Most of the time at Thai restaurants, I am not taken seriously, and the offerings are middling spicy at best, but they took me at my word. Very enjoyable, and the eggplant was delicious. My dining companion tried the House Special rice, Pineapple Rice, and it was just as good. The balance of flavors was fantastic; not too sweet and not too salty. Went there for dinner on Friday night, and sat outside. The food was ok. The other half ordered a stuffed chicken and curry dish, and I ordered a soft-shelled crab and green bean one. The food was a little salty for my liking and caused my lips to burn (maybe it was the MSG?). The Thai Iced Coffee that I had seemed to be watered down a bit, too, and didn't have a distinct full coffee taste (if that makes sense). I'll opt for other Thai food options in the area next time. There is a waitress that always greets my vegetarian friend and I with a smile and asks "Whee hav yoo been?" (in a cute and bubbly Thai accent) I went here for the first time in few months on Tuesday and she was no longer there (minus 1 star for her). The food is better than most or some Thai places (*ahem* Thai Basil/Pepper). Nothing too extravagant but not bad at all. My vegetarian friend would give this place 5 stars because they have a whole menu for non-meat eaters.
