This is a cute, cozy gastropub connected to Five Crowns. We came for happy hour but didn't realize it was only Monday - Thursday. So we will definitely be back to give it a try. We ended up getting the Prime & Proper Toastie which was four minutes prime rib sandwiches. This was great to share amongst two people. We also had the Duck wings which have a gochujang marinade. So yummy! Lastly, the Mac & Cheese was good but I could go without it next time. For martinis, I recommend the seasonal Jessica Rabbit which was like a raspberry lemon drop. The Secret Garden is on their everyday menu and was a lavender lemon drop.

Four of us dropped by SideDoor (the bar adjacent to Five Crowns) in CDM for HH. There were positives and negatives: Positives: The staff is super nice & accommodating; The mussels, burger, prime rib and fish & chips (latter two not pictured), were really good. Negatives: The HH oysters weren't that fresh; The food took a while; We ordered an avo app and fries off the HH menu. The items never arrived; The dessert we shared (not pictured) looked like a sundae. It was basically whipped cream with meringue on top and a small cookie underneath. We were not happy it cost $16; I called in advance to see if they have TNF and was told they have TVs that show TNF (I was meeting biz associates for HH on a Thu, and we wanted to watch the game). In reality, they don't have Prime, and thus no TNF; All in all, a positive experience. I look forward to visiting SideDoor and Five Crowns again in the near future.

We walked into SideDoor on the night before Thanksgiving. We didn't have reservations and it was crowded but we were lucky they could accommodate us. The restaurant is small and has a bar. There's a cute area by the fireplace to sit and the restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Abdallah was our server and he was great. I ordered the White Lotus cocktail which was refreshing and sweet. We ordered the wedge salad chopped to start. We had the kitchen split the salad which was an additional charge but resulted in nice portions for each of us. It was one of the best salads I've ever eaten so if you like wedge salads I'd recommend ordering it here. For entrees, we ordered the prime rib sandwich and upgraded to fries for an extra charge and the Crown cut prime rib plate. The portions were a good size and we were happy with our selections. Even though we were full, we saved room for dessert and ordered the CC Brown's hot fudge sundae. Our meal was great and the service was awesome. Side Door is definitely a good spot to go to if you're in Newport Beach. Make reservations if you can.

My fave place for craft cocktails. The bartenders are awesome and have creative recipes. Bar seating is limited with seating for about 8 people. They have a slightly different menu than 5 crowns. I like the more casual atmosphere on this side of the restaurant. Food is delicious. Can't go wrong with the calamari and any of the steaks.

    A perfect French Onion soup!

The food, ambience, and service were impeccable! April C really took care of us! She was very polite and welcoming!

    Prime rib sandwich! Loved it

Food overall was pretty decent. I got the fish and chips (good but not mind-blowing) and the lobster bisque (very good). Our table also got a cheese platter (pretty good). I liked that it had a variety of toppings like almonds, finger pickles, mustard, honey, and jam. The space itself was very cozy, like a comfy British home setting. I like the decor there more than the main restaurant. Only thing I have to say is it took a while for us to place our orders. They came to deliver drinks and appetizers but took almost 40 mins for them to ask us if we were ready to order.

Always a fun place to go for some drinks and light fare. Has the feel of an old British pub. Cocktails are excellent, as is the cheese and charcuterie board. They have a charcuterie "concierge" who arranges everything and comes over to walk you through it. Also had the avocado mash - super.

Been a long time that i wanted to try this place. Cutest, authentic design and vibe! You feel very British/Brilliant!! Please keep the accent They sometimes have private parties on the other side but they have same kitchen and menu! Their special cocktail menu is very interesting. I got the house old fashion, very smokey and presentable! Very friendly and knowledgeable server! The cheese board station is very entertaining as well. We got the stake and french onion soup, both very tasty.

    Great atmosphere at SideDoor

Christina provided awesome service and great recommendations for not only our entrées but the dessert with the chocolate soufflé was off the chart. I'd highly recommend sitting with her and also with the restaurant side door is always a great atmosphere and place to hang out.

The bar/pub atmosphere is lively, a bit crowded, and warm with some seats at the bar and tables for groups. Shoutout to Sam, who was very sweet, checked in on us, brought our orders out hot and fresh, and even gave us a small dessert at the end to celebrate an anniversary! We had the Dark Star Oatmeal Stout with our order of the brie fondue, corned beef reuben, and lamb burger. The brie fondue, to my surprise, was not 100% brie, but rather had a whipped and lighter texture. I thought the amount of bread/pears were enough, and we actually kept it to dip our sandwich/burger in. The presentation was beautiful and it was a great appetizer. The corned beef reuben was so good - the meat fell apart but wasn't fatty, the bread was toasted (one side was a bit too crispy but wasn't burnt which I'm fine with), and the fries were skinny and crispy. I only tried a bite of the lamb burger, but it was juicy and gamey. Yum! Price-wise it's a bit high for pub food, but it was still excellent. This would be a good spot for a date or if you want to go to a more fancy pub/bar!

The salad was fresh and the quinoa was toasted so it added a lovely crunch. The bread was served warm and the honey butter was delicious. The Reuben roll didn't quite do it for me but it seemed like a fun concept. For entrees I shared the fabled chicken and fish and chips, both of which were fantastic. The entrees were served hot and the portions were quite large. The chicken had lots going on but all good stuff, especially the jalapeño cornbread. The fish was also perfectly battered and light inside. Would definitely return!

Allowing employees to behave in a racist and disrespectful manner toward customers is unacceptable. What makes it even more disappointing is that I was actually considering bringing a group of coworkers here in the future. After this experience, I absolutely won't be doing that. I really tried giving Lawry's an opportunity to redeem themselves, but the lack of urgency on this matter is beyond disappointing. First of all, my family and I have spent an obscene amount of money at Lawry's restaurants. We have referred business here. My best friend is having her wedding reception here next month, and I'm not looking forward to seeing the arrogant manager who had the nerve to correct me on hospitality terminology when praising the "food runner" Ivan who did more for us than the two servers assigned to us. Just accept the compliment and make things right, please. Y'all completely missed the mark on service and quality of food that evening. Be better. That said, My kid was PUKING for three days straight after dining here. The least they could do is apologize for the unfortunate situation and offer to make it better- would it kill them to call? Additionally, I had to go though my friend Todd Johnson, who no longer works for Lawry's to get some sort of contact with the company. I hope to hear from you soon, Laura Ratner. This jewish yenta mom is not going to let this one go... & unfortunately, I have to come back next month for a wedding... you're welcome, your revenue will be a bit better... I hope the service and food isn't as terrible. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. My poor kid! Lastly, I understand that mistakes can happen. It's the lack of accountability that is truly disappointing re: this situation. I'm not even asking for a refund, just requesting a proper solution to this matter. I Hope to hear from somebody from upper management soon. ---------------------------- I had my birthday here with my family last night. I was disappointed with the service, quality of food, and overall experience. I loved Lawry's and frequented the Beverly Hills location often. (Back when Todd Johnson was in charge) He was amazing and I never had a problem or negative experience when he was with Lawry's. Anyhow, I spoke with the general manager, Eric Ensch, and he didn't seem to care when I directly expressed my concerns. He seemed absolutely insouciant about the situation, therefore I will be reaching out to his boss. Those at the top should be alerted of how things have gone downhill, especially at this location. Let me rephrase: Upper management WILL be notified, so they are aware of the issues as they should rectify the situation(s) IMMEDIATELY. I can go on and on, but it was a very bad experience, and I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. FYI: My daughter got sick from eating the food she ordered, I barely touched mine, and feel sick as well. We essentially paid hundreds of dollars for food poisoning on my BIRTHDAY That said, do yourselves a favor and avoid this restaurant. It is not as good as it once was.
