I don't understand the 4 & 5 stars. Firstly we ordered the flounder dish and there was only 1 piece of flounder the remainder were whitening. Greasy and overly salty not to mention expensive. I've eaten here twice now, once dining in and once to go. When I called to place the takeout order, the person with whom I spoke was abrupt and ended up getting one of our sides wrong, probably because she seemed so anxious to hang up the phone that she wasn't really listening. I didn't take off any stars because I don't know the circumstances; maybe this wasn't who usually answers the phone or maybe she was overwhelmingly busy or having a really bad day. Anyway, I got great service when I dined in! The restaurant is clean and spacious. The food was delicious! You could tell the oil they used to fry the fish and shrimp was clean, and the fried food wasn't greasy. The portion size was pretty good, and the prices were very reasonable! They have an amazing selection of cakes and pies for dessert! I spent way too long at their display case trying to choose because they all looked so good! read more

This Yelp review is for the out-of-towners (of which I am one) because the Greenville locals clearly know all about Silver Bay Restaurant. Passing through Greenville on the way back to Atlanta and stopped in for lunch. This is really a very, very, nice small town restaurant. From the neat water feature by the kitchen to the spacious booths, the custom plates, beautiful fish tanks, and high quality menus, it's obvious that the business is well-run and the owners have reinvested in it. The staff is exceptionally polite, they work well together, and you feel taken care of from the moment you sit down. The selection of seafood is extensive and rivals the choices you would find in a large city while being offered at very reasonable prices. The food was very good, now I'm not a fish eater but I did enjoy going and the company I was with. Even struck up a conversation with a veteran of Vietnam. So while we were enjoying the mail and having a great conversation with this man. I just knew I had to buy his meal. Our server stayed right on top of our orders and drinks. My mother knocked over her tea. We went to start cleaning it. This lady came running over and that is my job your job is to only enjoy your time here. I was like wow so sweet. She even wiped off my mom's wheelchair. Now that was above and beyond her job. I will be going again even if I only ate the hush puppies. My family really enjoyed there fish. I usually eat at Silver Bay on the average 6 times a month. The group that I usually eat wit has from 10 to 15 people. The service is first class nd the associates are very nice. A couple of weeks ago a new cashier who is blond headed started to work. At dinner I always received a senior discount until she came on the scene. Not any more for me. Others can still get their senior discount but I can't. If you are wondering I am 76 years and look it. I am undecided if I really want to go back there of not . If I do and she is on the register I will turn around and Leave. read more

I was not impressed with the food. I didn't want a big meal, so I was foolish enough to order a cheeseburger at a seafood restaurant. It was probably one of the worst I have ever had. I then decided to try the talapia, but it was dry. The french fries was like the frozen kind you get at the grocery store. The hushpuppies & potato wedges, however, were good. This review is specifically for the snow crab legs special for $19.99 (we were there on a Saturday). Absolutely fantastic - and it was definitely enough! The sides here were great which is usually lacking at seafood places as they tend to focus on the seafood. We were served three clusters each - it was so delicious!! Just imagine - we are a family of four on a Sunday around noon driving through town looking for a local non-chain spot for lunch. We were greeted on a soon-to-be church ridden crowd by a pleasant hostess, seated quickly and served hush puppies and potato wedges immediately. The menu is affordable, even a steal if you ask me! Moisha was a wonderful server! So pleasant & attentive. This was the cleanest restaurant I have ever been in , for a fried seafood place. Frog legs were wonderful, our 8 year old daughter had so fun with the crab legs, and loved them! They have a huge variety on their menu, fried, broiled, grilled, burgers, salads, steaks..... I was just at the Silver Bay Restaurant on White Horse Rd. in Greenville South Carolina and I ordered an item by price off the special menu in front of the restaurant and was served an item that appeared to be the same. The item was $9.99 and when bill came I was charged $16.99. When I complained I was told that I was served the higher priced item and I would have to pay that price but they would give me ten percent off. I asked to see the owner and when the lady returned from the back, I was told that the owner was busy cutting meat. When I said that I would wait, the story changed to he would not see me and that he would not lower the price to what was ordered because he would lose money. Buyer Beware!! I come once a week with my grandparents and I never know what to expect when it comes to the consistency of the food.It s either over fried, soggy, under cooked, or sometimes (if I m lucky) it s cooked just right. I would first like to start my review with a tip for the woman who was either a hostess, owner or manager...If you feel like yelling at a staff member, especially a young girl, don't do it in front of customers. It makes you and your business look bad and for the remainder of the visit, you will be labeled a bitch by the customers and a "bad lady" by the children. I'm not sure what my family and I walked in on, but cornering a young girl and yelling at her in another language does not hide the fact that you are still yelling at her in front of paying customers. This woman stopped yelling long enough to seat us and put on a fake smile before walking away. I went to the restroom and found the girl crying in the bathroom. I don't know what she did or didn't do, but it wasn't necessary. For this reason, I am deducting a star. Moving on! Our waitress was great. She was speedy but was not too talkative which I like. She brought us more than enough hush puppies and made sure we were okay the whole visit. She got a really nice tip because of it. The food was amazing. My husband ordered crab legs and said that they were the most perfectly cooked crab legs that he had ever had. The price wasn't bad either. Much better than Joes Crab Shack! I got the three combination fried plate with scallops, baby shrimp and clam strips. The scallops were cooked perfectly but the coating kept falling off of them. The shrimp was really crispy and soft on the inside. My main complaint was about the clam strips and the size of the portion of food on my plate compared to how much I paid for the food. My plate cost about $16 and I got very little food on it. I think I got maybe 5 scallops, a scattering of shrimp and a handful of clam strips which were cold and some were really tough. I'm not sure how they cook things there, but it was almost like they cook the clam strips in large batches and wait for someone to order them. For the lack of food and the inedible clam strips, I am deducting a star. My daughter ordered the kids fish plate and loved every bit of it. She also ordered a piece of pistachio cake. I tried a bite and couldn't stomach it but my daughter was in heaven and loved the bright green color of it. Our over all experience was okay and the food was good, but the scene at the door is enough to make me not want to go back. However, my family will not allow that to happen so I suppose we would give it another try as long as the lady up front isn't yelling. read more
