I've been wanting to try this place because there aren't many Singaporean food spots in NYC besides the food hall in Midtown. We visited on a weekend morning and the place was empty. Or so we thought, they told us that their reservations were full and that the last table was the one by the window (where it was super sunny and the white tablecloth did not help). Well the entire hour and a half we were there, the table next to us was empty...it definitely felt like they prioritize reservations (even those that don't show up I guess) over walk ins. We ordered the Bakmi Keriting, Laksa and Chendol. The bakmi was the favorite of the table as it was mild in flavor with tender chicken pieces and a bite to the handmade noodles. The laksa was a bit spicy and strong on the coconut milk flavor with very slippery noodles. The chendol was just okay, the red beans wasn't sweet, the ice was a frozen block in the middle so it wasn't easy to mix with the rest of the toppings which weren't much. Not quite the same as the ones I've had in Singapore sadly. The table menu explaining all the types of coffee and tea combinations was a nice touch.

I was excited to check out this Singaporean spot and I was not disappointed. Came for lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had weekday lunch specials. The Nasi Lemak fried chicken lunch special that comes with a glass of kopi is a fantastic deal. My friend's beef dish was also yummy. The food came out quickly, and everything was made expertly. The many flavors on the plate including the anchovies, peanuts, coconut rice, and sambal, were bold, but none overwhelmed the other. The chicken cutlet was moist and nicely fried, as was the egg. My iced kopi peng was great as well. Our server was friendly, and the place was spotless (including the bathroom. I can imagine Singapore Social being a good evening destination, so I'm looking forward to coming back for dinner.

Super authentic Singaporean/Malaysian/Indonesian food and drinks in a chill setting. I got the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah ($25), which had fried chicken, coconut rice, a fried egg, peanuts, anchovies, and sambal sauce - an authentic version of Malaysia's national dish. The chicken was fried nicely with the boneless meat still tender inside the crispy exterior. The sambal added a spicy kick to the dish. My only slight critique is that the anchovies made the dish a bit too salty for my taste. The restaurant interior has a very casual/chill vibe in a clean space with upbeat music. The staff are very friendly and helpful and had no issues with us staying and chatting at our table for a while. Overall, although I wasn't wowed enough by the food to give a full 5 stars, I was impressed by the authenticity of the menu items and enjoyed my time, so am giving Singapore Social a solid 4 stars. Really reminded me of my time in Southeast Asia!

Came here for lunch around 1130am on Sunday. No wait but then a wait around noon. Cool vibes. Kaya Toast 5/5. First time having this so it exceeded my expectations. Wanted to try to Nasi Lemak Oxtail Rendang but they didn't have oxtail just beef. Charged $11 less. Well we got the beef and it was dry and not a lot of sauce. 2/5 Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah 5/5. Fried chicken was amazing This spot will be popular for 3 years and then I think they need to change up the menu

Singapore Social is a cute spot! It has a long dining room with tables in the front getting nice, natural light, and larger tables in the back. We arrived on a weekday for a late lunch. We saw the tables in the front were a bit small; given my love of Malaysian / Singaporean food, I worried that out orders wouldn't fit on the table and asked to be seated at a larger table. Given there weren't very many people eating at this late timeslot, the wait staff kindly accommodated our request. Upon seating, we were sad to find that two of the dishes we were looking to try had run out: the Roast Chicken Rice and Cendol dessert. We ended up ordering the chicken satay and laksa. The chicken satay was tender and well-grilled; the peanut sauce was warm and tasty. The laksa and the kopi was OK. Being from the bay area where we have the best laksa from Dabao Singapore, our bar for the dish is high. Overall, Singapore Social is a cute spot for meeting with friends and family for a casual meal!

Overall our consensus was that this was good but not remarkable. We got the Kaya toast, chicken satay, laksa, and nasi lemak with fried chicken. I love Singaporean/Indonesian/Malaysian food overall but no dish really stood out especially in the sea of South East Asian restaurants in NYC.

Nice spot in the area and gets pretty packed on the weekends. Wish I could have loved the food more.. They start you off with their complimentary dish with carrots, cucumbers and cabbage with their spicy sambal sauce - great appetizer. I ordered the you tiao which looked interesting in the photos but THEY CHANGED IT NOW and as you can see in the photo - TOO FRIED. When you over fry the you tiao, it gets extremely hard and crunchy in a bad way. Such a shame because the flavor and sauce was delicious. I ordered the nasi lemak ayam berempah -- the sauce was great! the inside of the chicken was very tender but the outside is just TOO fried. the fried anchovies were also too hard and hardly edible -- no good flavor. peanuts were also just meh. For an appetizer and entree with tip was totaling $50 - I would not come back, as i dont feel it's worth the price.

Vegan basic lemak was fantastic, as well as the dal prata. loved their hot sauce as well. service was quick and friendlyc and the atmosphere is fun (great vibe, music, etc).

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant. As someone from Indonesia, I know their menu well. We enjoyed all the food. The service was good, but we waited 15-20 minutes for our main course after finishing the appetizer. I ordered the Bakmi keriting, which really reminded me of home! But overall, we love it!

Laksa and Nasi lemak with beef Rendang

Heard about the place and since I am from Malaysia, I always like to try my home country style of food. So today came here with my sister for lunch. Was very excited. The restaurant looks clean and nice. The staffs are ok. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 main dishes. We ordered Yau Tiu and Kaya toast. Yau Tiu is nothing special but the price is expensive. The Kaya toast is good just not warm enough to melt the thick butter. We ordered the Laksa and Nasi Lemsk Beef Rendang. The beef Rendang is too salty and the beef itself tastes gamey. The Laksa smells and looks good but it is tasteless. Overall, the food doesn't taste like Singapore food at all. I think there is a lot of improvement.

We stopped by here for late lunch. The place was somewhat busy. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff and seated immediately. The staff here, every single one of them was friendly, polite, and attentive. Excellent 5 stars service! We ordered the roti prata, fried you tiao, nasi lemak sambal goreng, bakmi keriting, and cendol. We both love the food here. One of us is a huge fan of bakmi. Bakmi keriting is an Indonesia noodle dish. The bakmi keriting here is probably the best bakmi keriting in NYC! Wish they would serve the dish with the chili sauce that came with the complimentary lalap platter instead of the chili oil offered. Well, it is still absolutely delicious! The cendol was delicious, not too sweet. If you love Singaporean, Indonesian, and Malaysian food, you'll definitely love this place! Highly recommended! Great food and service! Definitely worth stopping by!

You know it's real when you see the Milo pound can. It's giving an authentic ambiance of a local restaurant in South East Asia. The service is good and the food is amazing. It reminds me of the time when I was in Singapore during my university years. We had a great encountered with one of the staff. She was very nice and attentive. I didn't catch her name (I'm sorry) but learned from her that she's from Indonesia. Shout out to my Indonesian sister!

We opted for the 15 course dinner that samples through their entire menu. It is a perfect amount of food for two people and I recommend this experience very much. The meal starts with a cozy chicken and noodle broth soup which was so warming and comforting, just what the doctor ordered in this weather. The second round of food was two types of salad and a corn fritter. I loved the pickled salads as they had a nice crunch to them and tasted delicious. The fritters are a good size but a little bit greasier than I liked. The last round is where all the curries are brought out on a hot plate. There's shrimp, lamb, beef rendang, chicken, tofu etc. There's also white rice and skewers of chicken and beef satay coated in a delicious peanut sauce. Some of the curries I liked very much - like the fried tofu and the sauce on the shrimp curry was divine. Beef rendang fell a little flat for me as it wasn't as decadent, thick or spicy like authentic rendang is. The lamb curry had a sweet taste which I found a little odd. The chicken satay was juicy and delicious but the beef satay was rubbery and hard to chew and a weird texture. I definitely expect better from a satay skewer. Our server was kind and kept the flow of the food going. The final course is a little coconut pandan flan which was very very good but the texture is firmer than what I like. Flan should definitely be a bit softer and creamier. Either way it's tough to nail a 15 course dinner expertly but I do think if they made a few needed changes to the quality of food this would easily be a 5 star experience! If you live nearby, definitely give this beautiful cozy family run restaurant a try!!

Side notes: Family-run place, so if you're going to go here with a bigger group, call early to make…read moresure they have the dishes you want. Would recommend the Bakwan, the Empal Goreng, and the Sayur Santen the most, with the Talor Tahu and various Bakwan being very tasty. Rating is for the area (in Queens, this would be an upper 3 as being a milder but tasty Indonesian spot, but worse than Sky/Awang.) I have been to this small family-run Indonesian restaurant a handful of times since my old review back in 2022, and over the many years, I have found some dishes I have loved more than others, of course. From the small plates, I would recommend, as before, the Bakwan for $9, consisting of crispy corn fritters cooked pancake style with scallion. The texture of the dish is wonderful, and the dipping sauces, whether they be the sweet chili sauce or the peanut sauce, work well to help with the slight oiliness. The sate is also pretty tasty. Of the multiple types, the Chicken Satay was the most recent one we had (which is cheaper at $11,) but I think the beef one (for a buck more) is better. We also had the larger Sate Madura a previous time, which was also very tasty. Another tasty dish is the Talor Tahu for $18, listed as a seasoned egg omelete with bean curd, mushrooms, and veggies glazed with Indonesian soy sauce and shallots. The price might look high for a vegetarian dish, but it is quite large, and the mixture of vegetables adds a nice mix of textures, including a good amount of crunch. The sauce is nice as well, adding a slightly sweet flavor, and goes nicely with the soft omelete. One of the most recent dishes I tried here is one of the best, which was the Empal Goreng for $21, listed as sliced beef marinated in sweet Javanese spices pan fried topped with Indonesian soy sauce. There was plenty of beef, which was cut thin and cooked beautifully, with the flavors reminding me a little bit of lemongrass dishes from Vietnamese spots, outside of it also having a slightly spicy kick. There was otherwise some lettuce, and the dish was served with some achar/acar, an Indonesian (and insert ASEAN country here) mix of pickled vegetables including cucumber, carrots, and onions. My other favorite dish here is a vegetarian dish, which is the Sayur Santen for $18, listed as lightly battered broccoli and cauliflower in Indonesian herbs cooked in spiced coconut milk topped with bean curd and carrots. There is a nice mix of textures, with the batter indeed, as listed, being very light, with the cauliflower and broccoli still retaining some crunch. My favorite part of the dish is the bean curd, which absorbs the delicious slightly sweet, and lightly spicy coconut milk. Another group of dishes that tend to be good are the various Belado, a pepper mixture with various spices that is somewhat similar to a sambal. This is available with Ikan, or crispy fish, for $20, or with Terong, or crispy eggplant and tofu, for $18. The crispy fish was a bit less spicy the most recent time, while the vegetables retained most of the kick from previous dinners, so I slightly preferred the vegetables. If there was one part of the menu to stay away from, it would unfortunately be the various kare, or curry. The Beef Rendang for $21, or pieces of beef simmered for hours in coconut milk and spices, is just alright, being a bit too soupy for my style (as I generally prefer drier rendang in general,) with the spices being a bit too light, whether it is the coconut milk or chili. The same can be said for the $19 Kare Ayam, which is also a bit too mild for my liking. From previous memory, I would also not recommend the Ayam Goreng, or their spiced fried chicken as it's a bit dry. The Nasi Goreng, for a variety of prices depending on protein, is also just OK. The dish listed as Indonesian fried rice with protein, scrambled egg, and protein was $18 in our case, for a chicken/ayam version. The portion was plentiful, but it partially lacked the wok hei I associate with this dish. The egg is nice, and there was enough chicken, but it was also a bit too plain. Speaking of light dishes, they have given us the Pandan Coconut Pudding for $7 a handful of times. This is a lightly flavored pudding with a very mild floral (from the pandan) and coconut flavor. Due to the texture and the light coconut sweetness, it reminds me a bit more of some kue you can find in some spots, such as Lady Wong and otherwise. It's a decent final bite. Outside of one particular part of the menu, I have liked this place every time I've been here. The food in general is pretty consistent, outside of maybe the spice level in a dish or two, but this is more expected in a casual spot such as this one. I'll go back again, probably in another few months, and sample more of their dishes. The rating is for the area, as it would be closer to a 4 in Queens, but I would still go back.

The server today was very kind and followed up if anything was too spicy. The Thai Tea is spot on and refreshing! The boat noodle has the perfect beefy flavor, some surprise tripe, plump meat balls and plenty of sliced beef. The Kao Soi curry noodles was the right amount of sweet and salty. The added crunchy from the fried rice papers was a nice touch. My favorite the nam kao tod does come with peanuts so those with allergy should request to not get this added as a topping. I wish it was served with more fresh lettuce as the dish is on the saltier side and deserves some fresh lettuce to balance it out (lettuce wrap style). I ordered the nasi bungkus with fried chicken. This dish comes wrapped in a banana leaf and then wax paper and it's exciting to be able to unwrap it when it arrives at the table. It has a complex heat, tempered with bitterness but is not overly spicy. The fried chicken was incredibly tender- when I attempted to separate the drumstick from the thigh, the bones just pulled right out. The meat is also deeply seasoned throughout. A really fantastic piece of fried chicken. There is ample sauce to season the soft, fluffy rice and the green beans provided a welcome vegetal bite. I loved the hidden hard boiled egg buried in there. I also got a very interesting dessert, Ice doger. It has a base of pink shaved ice and coconut milk and is topped with avocado, black glutenous rice, basil seeds, coconut and cubed white bread. The flavor combination was unique and fascinating. The creamyness of the avocado lends itself perfectly to a dessert, and the grassy vegetal after taste adds complexity. The herbal, sour notes from the basil seeds and the richness of the coconut complement the sweet base, seasoned with condensed milk and the cubes of white bread soak up all the liquid as the ice melts. I loved this dessert. My food took quite a long time to come, but the service was very friendly and helpful and my water was refilled often. The organizer of this 15 year old Food Market pop-up, Fefe, is so nice & motivated (the NY Times described her as being proud of sharing Indonesian food and culture & a fan of American bureaucratic systems - only allowing vendors who have all their permits.) their social media is pretty active & hold other festivals at the Indonesian Consulate and at other spaces on Indonesian holidays. About this Vendor Market! It's low-key, family friendly & welcoming. There's bathrooms too. Think PTA Cultural Festival - BUT this is a quality culinary adventure. One Indonesian first-time customer was surprised to see some items that they've only seen when visiting Indonesia & their first impression was that the vendors didn't dumb down the flavors for the Western palette. During my visit, there were 5 vendors & a Sunnyside Reads Org table. I don't know much about Indonesian cuisine, but stews & noodle soups seem multi - ingredient & multi-textured (veggies & crispy toppings), grilled fish & meat skewers, peanut & chili sauces, cassava & sticky rice, coconut milk turmeric broths, palm sugar & pandan. Things I've tried: Taste of Suribaya vendor - Rice Plate: light turmeric rice comes with grilled chicken satay, tempeh (apparently handmade from a Philly vendor), string bean veg stir fry (peanut sauce), a battered fried hard boiled egg. Scoop of sambal chili sauce - Jackfruit Stew (vegetarian): a very mild coconut curry. The jackfruit is cut into thick triangular pieces. There's also cassava, daikon, cabbage, bamboo shoots, tofu puffs, battered fried boiled egg; potato chips & shrimp chips on top. Other Vendor: - Fish "Meatball" in steamed lotus leaf w/ peanut dipping sauce (thought this was going to be a tapioca flour & fish meat item, not what I expected. Very savory, probably good with rice.) Other Vendor: Long lines for Gado Gado (veggie in peanut stew) & Meatball Noodle Soup (& other dishes I wasn't familiar with). Lots of people eating fried fritters & empanada - like pastries. Next time would like to try $17 Beef cube skewers + thick sticky rice (peanut sauce) & the Gado Gado. The Desserts! - The Yeasted Yellow Rice Cake (turmeric, coconut, milk, lime leaf). Kind of like a big slightly tropical crumpet. Similar to the Cantonese yeasted white sugar rice cake. Delish! Had it with tea at home. - $3 Pandan Thousand Layer Tapioca Cake (SO hard to make - even layers & very pretty). Great Flavor & fun to eat. Like a jelly. - Taste of Surabaya: $5 Pandan Crepe (rice flour) filled with grated coconut & palm sugar. Not too sweet! - Lots of people drinking/eating the green pandan-flavored tapioca noodle in coconut milk & palm sugar. Kind of like bubble tea, but not really. Seating: About 5-6 table tables inside & benches lining the front of the room. There's a little patch of front lawn in front of the church, and a picnic table. People are really friendly, sharing tables & chatting about the food. This is true NYC Queens - people of all backgrounds & ages come to eat & are open & interested.
