Been to the previous two establishments and loved them so had to come check out this new spot. Stopped by tonight around 7:25p.m and it was about halfway full. Walked in and was greeted and we didn't know if it was self seating, but nobody came so we seated ourselves. On each table, there are a couple bags of chips, we thought they were the "appetizers" but they're actually for sale. I believe 2-3$ a bag. Sat down and saw that there were no menus so walked up to grab some, but the lady grabbed them and said that she would take them over in a kinda rude manner, but we let that slide. Looked through and ordered our foods: 1. Pad Thai (9.95$)- VERY chewy! I LOVE chewy noodles, so this was a really good dish for me. The flavors were just perfect as well, slightly sweet but also not overwhelming. Comes with peanuts, carrots, and cabbage, along with green onions. 2. Pad See Ew (9.95$)- This one smelled really good as it was coming out. Loved that the flavoring was on point, not too salty and not overpowering soy sauce. 3. Soto Betani (10.95$)- This one wasn't as I expected but it was still fairly good. I LOVE anything coconut so I was expected a stronger coconut flavor, but it tasted like curry. The meat was also very chewy and hard to eat. It comes with rice with coconut flakes as well as a couple chips. The service was nice, although very slow. I believe its a mom & pop shop so I understand the struggles in being short staffed but they literally only had one person running tables and one chef in the back cooking the food. Food took about 30 minutes to come out but everything was really hot so freshly cooked. Overall, Loved the meal, wish they had more people running the tables though, but would be back! read more

Oh my gosh, let me tell you just how excited I am to finally try this spot. Little disclaimer before we start: I'm Indonesian, came in a group of 5 (all Indos), 2 have roots from Kalimantan/Borneo, one of which is from Singkawang and the other from Pontianak (not far from Singkawang). I must emphasize, This Is The Bomb. Main dishes we got: - Bakmi Singkawang: literally my favorite bowl of noodles in the entire LA county, like seriously. The texture and the flavor is just so on point, it puts other Indonesian noodle shops to shame (*cough* West Covina). To be fair, it doesn't have the same taste as your average noodles because it does have a slight vinegar taste, but that complements the flavors this dish has to offer. Like usually I'm the type of person to drown my noods in soup (don't @ me) but this? Heck no, the flavors are just too perfect that it shines, even without the soup 10/10 - Kwetiau Goreng Singkawang: solid dish, the kwetiau has a mild wok flavor, and the toppings are just seasoned perfectly to complement those noodles. I'm personally not a kwetiau girl, would probably have chosen the mie goreng instead but it's okay because this is still fire. - Sup Sayur Asin: we didn't order this soup but it came with two of our dishes mentioned above (I think). But, I kid you not, this is the best sayur asin I've had in a long long time, probably better than most I've had in Indo. It has a bit of pork pieces in the bottom and the veggies in it aren't smelly at all (it's common for the veggie to be smelly). Honestly I would come back just for this soup ngl - Nasi Campur: it came with the thick clear gravy sauce (not sure what it's called) but if it doesn't, just ask for it. I loved this one but I think it's missing something, maybe the broth isn't salty enough? Maybe the rice wasn't soft enough? I'm not even sure. For those wondering: the pork belly was super fat (which I love) but I know not everyone is super into that. - Nasi Capcai: super nostalgic because it tastes exactly like what I used to eat; the veggies are still a bit crunchy which I know some people prefer. Definitely one of the healthier options or if you want to eat more veggies. Appetizers & Others: - Hakong: 8/10 without the sauce, 10/10 with the sauce. Bruh. That sauce is magic I swear. It complements the hakong so well with some balanced sweetness, sourness, and savoriness. Without it, it needs just a touch more salt but I think it's meant to be eaten with the sauce, so I'm not complaining haha. - Choi pan: according to my friends, these are not singkawang style, but it's super delicious nonetheless. The sauce is the one that came with our kwetiau but it's delicious and spicy, but not as watery as the one I'm used too. The filling itself is super flavorful (with quite a good amount of white pepper), the wrapper is kinda chewy/bouncy in a good way--and is not too thick. - Es doger: omfg they have ketan singkong and kolang kaling in it!! They had some interesting stuffs in it like popping boba and lychee jelly I think but I don't really mind it lol. The drink part is not overwhelmingly sweet, just the right amount for this dessert (I'm sure they use Marjan syrup) - Sambal terasi: if yall need more spicy, do ask for this. You're welcome. General situation: Came when LA had outdoor dining open, but not indoor (3/13). I heard they're going to have both indoor and outdoor next week. Their outdoor seating is a spacious patio with some heater to keep you warm. The owners and workers are all Indonesian, with the owners originally from Singkawang. I know they serve Thai food but we didn't really ask why nor try it. All of the utensils and plates were single use (paper plates to serve the food, styrofoam plates for us to share), except for the bowls used for the noodles and soups where they used legit noodle bowls. TL;DR: they have awesome Indonesian food that everyone must try. If you think Borneo Kalimantan Cuisine is good, try this one and you'll be blown away. 10/10 would come back and bring my Indo and non-Indo friends and families here!! read more

We ordered baso singkawang and nasi campur for dinner. Baso Singkawang ($9.95): I honestly was very disappointed with the dish. I was expecting a better quality from this place because it is actually more expensive than baso from other Indo places. The meatball was not good and the broth was blah. Nasi campur ($9.95): the fried chicken was the only thing that was good on the plate. The bbq pork is very thinly sliced. We burned our tongue drinking the boiling-hot broth from this place. Please make sure you control the temperature of your soup. The soup was still hot even after we finished our dinner. They have a small market section, featuring Indo cakes, desserts and chips. Shrimp chips and emping are also available at your table. Connected to the badminton club, the restaurant serves both Kalimantan and Thai food. Kalimantan (Borneo) is one of the major islands in Indonesia. Yes, it is basically Indonesian food. You can watch badminton games from the tiny window that separates the restaurant from the club. Good food and service of South East Asian flair. Price is affordable and offers Luncg Specials and Daily Specials. This is near the LA Badmington Club in El Monte, and next to San Gabriel Airport. I like what they offer but somehow it has hit 5 for me. Wish they had marinated the chicken wings before frying. They have us free desserts and soup with lunch set. Was on a Thai food craving today and happened to come in luck with this place. I ordered online through Yelp, and grub hub. I ordered the pad se ew chicken a little spicy. Upon arriving into the parking lot you'll see two other establishments and Singkawang is right in the middle. There was outdoor seating with guest enjoying their meals. They had a $1 milk tea special for the day. I regret not getting one. You cannot enter all the way into the restaurant. There is a table set up a few feet From walking inside. I entered and the employee saw me. I was a little disappointed because I know she saw me but she looked down and continued to do so until I had to ring the bell. In which she said she'll be right with me. She was obviously busy but some quick advice, just greet the customers right away and acknowledge you saw us. I won't knock down a star for that. The establishment looked clean inside and they have snacks on the side for extra purchasing. She gave me my good and I was very pleased with my meal. The stuff that box completely. I didn't even eat half and I was full. I also shared with a co worker and even after they made a plate for themselves I still have some left over. It was flavorful for sure. Great plate. Got their laksa with comes with wide flat rice noodles (option for egg or vermicelli too). It's a bit confusing as to whether their egg noodle is house made or not. Waitress was quite confused, ended up saying they buy from a bakery (?) Anyway, I love laksa! And this was still tasty, though it lacks the oomph of most laksas I've had both in the US and asia. I do give them credit for having a laksa though, and their prices are great. Although I'm unimpressed, it was good enough that I think I will come back to try a couple more of their dishes to see if it warrants a higher rating. A new Indonesian restaurant located in LABC plaza, owned by the owner of Thai Paradise in Monterey Park. It is still soft opening, so they are still kinda slow in cooking the food. Came here on Sunday afternoon and the place was packed with people from the badminton club. I tried the Hakong Singkawang (fried shrimp paste) and my fiance tried the Nasi Campur (chicken and pork over rice). The Nasi Campur was similar to Borneo's, but I honestly like Borneo's version, but it was not bad. However, the Hakong Singkawang was very very oily, my throat was dry after eating it. The parchment paper underneath the pieces was drenched with oil. The taste was actually good but the excessive amount of oil turned me off. It is a great addition to introduce the community to my beloved Indonesian cuisine, but I hope that the owner will pay more attention to the quality of food so that it will get better read more
