Once well known for serving large portions of authentic Asian dishes, it has now downsized in portions and lacks in flavor. They may have changed chefs... but either way it's not the same anymore. When I crave a wonton soup with pork, here is the ideal Chinese food. There wonton had a savory filling and it is very filling. The egg noodles had a good chewy bites. It is the perfect soup for a cold day. I love their egg rolls is crispy and meaty. I love to dip the egg roll in their vinegar sauces. Don't dip the egg roll in sweet spot sauces. They have a really good fried rice and flat noodles. I kind of forgot the exact name but it's dish #27. It's soooo good! My friend was the one who introduced me to that dish! It's a beef flat noodle dish and it's packing with so much flavor! One of the best things they have is their coconut jelly! Their hot pot dishes are also pretty good! They are currently renovating half of the restaurant and I'm excited because this place definitely needs an upgrade on the atmospheric part of the restaurant. Also love how they're open pretty late! Loved the lunch dish choices.. but the last few visits, the lunch dish combos e.g. roast and bbq pork combo, pork and duck combo left me a tad dissapointed. Sinh sinh USED to have awesome cuts of roast pork and roast duck over rice. Made me want to eat it every day. But the last visits the dishes look like the cook just threw the meats on the dish. The cuts were not as good as before and the roast pork, falling apart everywhere. Portions seem or look also about 15-20% less than before Service was non existent. A wait staf was always present but never the person to get things done and always redirecting leaving me wondering if someone was helping me with my requests. BUT I am here for the food. This is not a place I get hung up on service other then getting my order, delivering the dish and then the check. Bottomline, food taste while pretty good it has lately left my over all experience a little dissapointing as if it was lacking something. Whether portion, choice of cut and how it was put together. Headed to Chinatown on Christmas, because what else do you do? Of course, it was crazy busy. We chose this spot because of how busy it was. Thinking it would be really good. When you walk in it was a chaotic mess. You have to write your own name down on the wait list. Maybe that is something normal for this type of establishment but it was still really confusing. Once seating it's just kind of all over the place. The egg rolls were really good but the chicken was interesting. This place is so hectic all the time, it took 20 mins just to get drinks and our orders, another 20 for food, and the worst part is when we were paying, our card kept bouncing around different servers and took 30 mins to get back to us. I don't know why we were on a waiting list for 10mins while there's visibly tables open on both sides of the restaurant and not many customers. Food is mediocre Chinese food. We ordered the platter for 6 at the end of the menu and 2 additional dishes. Peking duck came with steam buns and Hoison sauce dip. We arrived at the restaurant around 11 am. The restaurant was definitely not crowded. The waitress did not understand Vietnamese or English very well. It took them forever to bring out the food. Our daughter's simple order of wonton soup and an appetizer came out half way through the meal. Our waitress was no where to be found so we had to go and grab condiments off of other tables. The food was bland and their special dish that is known there was disappointing. The flour was mushy and not crunchy with the eggs. To top it off, they do an automatic charge for tips at 18% for a table more then 5. I did not recall this stated anywhere on their menu or restaurant. Food is average, you can find the same from Tan Tan or other near by restaurants, but their waitstaffs are horrible. They got this distaste attitude. My family went here (big party 18 ppl) and they refused to set up the tables, my family decided to move the tables and chairs to do the setup ourselves. Came here on Christmas because there is nothing like Chinese food on Christmas. We chose this place after reviewing some various restaurants in the Chinatown area. It seemed to offer about everything imaginable, which was correct based on the massive tome of Asian delicacies that I spent 10 minutes reading! The place was packed, which was no surprise considering the holiday. I wasn't familiar with the place and was very unsure on how to get my name on the wait list. The majority of people standing at the front seemed a bit lost as well. Come to find out you have to sign yourself in - so keep this in mind if you come here. The food itself was hot or miss. We ordered some Imperial Egg Rolls that we're quite amazing and I would come just to get those. Being an average American, I had to get General Tso's Chicken which was accompanied with steamed broccoli. Needless to say the broccoli was more enjoyable than the chicken, which had that standard chewy texture and gray "mystery meat" color. Everyone in the restaurant was partaking in Hot Pot, which was an interesting and authentic touch to the atmosphere. Lately, as of 09/2017, the food has been pretty on point We usually come for late night eating, like after midnight, and its been good. I assume that the lunch and normal dinner cooks are equally as good. The hotpot here is decent but only has one soup broth and the pot is small. Nothing like on the West Coast. This review is for their BBQ section only. As you enter the restaurant, you have the option to dine in the restaurant or go to the BBQ takeout section. The BBQ section only takes cash, and the are usually busy because their food is so good! You know how you see the hanging ducks and chickens in NYC's and SF's Chinatown? This is what you will see. There are red glistening roasted ducks and crispy pork on display. They also have really good Free Range Steamed Hen (it's not on display because it is served cold. Whenever I head to NOLA to visit family, my dad always requests for me to bring 2 hens back to NOLA. You have the option of having them chop it for you or you can purchase it whole...price is the same no matter what option you choose. Other reviews are pretty clear on the dine in/restaurant side so you can use those reviews as reference for the dine in experience. I have tried other places that make roast duck and crispy pork but it never compares to Sinh Sinh. This is my go to place for Chinese BBQ. read more

Having been to Tan Tan months ago and now Sinh Sinh in New Chinatown, Six Choir Guy and I have a new working theory - when we visit a place with a repeating name, the visit is doomed. The parking lot was full and the interior was packed with an overwhelmingly Asian crowd. Your standard Asian restaurant décor was in place: Bare minimum cash spent on atmosphere, furniture, and serving materials. No spending on soundproofing either as the clattering of plates competed with the chatter of the customers which vied with the open kitchen for supremacy. I guess Sinh Sinh's owners hoped that the bodies of the customers lured in would be all the soundproofing material they needed. Having just returned from Chicago and experiencing the loud subway, it was unfortunate that I was reminded of that by sitting in this restaurant. Service is perfunctory at best. A young Asian kid came up with his anime-styled hair, sloppy white dress shirt, and black string tie to hand us menus and take our drink order. After bringing us the drinks, we never saw him again. Instead, an older man came to take our dinner order, deliver the finished goods, and the ticket but never came to inquire of how we liked the meal. I had to fetch our own utensils from another table since no one brought us any - I guess we should be thankful they brought us plates. In their defense, I do understand the "Asian framework" of being unobtrusive in service but there is a fine line between understated and ignoring your customers. I like my service to actually "serve", thanks. Otherwise, I can just stay home, ignore myself, and save my cash. As Ru Paul would say: "You better work!" We had the Cha Gio ($3.95 for 2 pieces), Beef with Carlian fried rice noodle ($6.95), Spinach with Garlic ($7.95), and Salt-Rubbed Beef Ribs ($9.95). The order taker did mention that the ribs were dry during confirmation of the order. The cha gio were fat tasty versions plumped up with the normal ingredients; the peanut sauce was a very delectable, refreshing, and zesty version infused with ginger and a little soy sauce. When presented with the fried rice noodle, we were a little crestfallen - it reminded us of the disappointing greasy tasteless version at Tan Tan. But, upon tasting it, it redeemed itself nicely with nothing more than beef slices, noodles, and some green onions. The spinach with garlic was a mound of freshly wilted greens melded with garlic. This was a great way to get your vitamins into your diet as well as to clear the palate. The salt-rubbed beef ribs appeared on a bed of cooked onions - it was the major letdown of the visit. Composed of tough meat, large swaths of fat, and bones, I was done with this after one piece. Why waste the energy on a flavorless and unappealing dish? I went back to finishing off the noodles. I'd rate the mixed bag of food as 3-star while dinging them one star for the comatose service. An overall poor value for the money. It would seem that we're 0-for-2 on double-named places. I guess we shouldn't go to New York, New York unless we're gluttons for punishment? read more

The BBQ pork is a must have item for any meat lover. Pretty much every shrimp dish I have had there has been killer. Just about anything Sesame is guaranteed to be off the chain gang, specifically the sesame shrimp. I know Hot and Sour soup is the Chinese equivalent of Tex-Mex food, but its still exceptionally good here. Last time we were there we just asked the waiter if they had a dish that had noodles and beef, he said yes, then asked us if we wanted gravy on it, we said yes. It was amazing. I can't believe my eyes..our waiter brought out 4 glasses of water and there was a ROACH floating in one of the cups!! It was the first thing I noticed when he set the cups down..was he blind!?!? Geez that thing was definitely bigger than pea-sized! After he set the cups down one by one, he then realized his little friend in the cup and quickly walked away with it without saying anything hoping we didn't see. He came back with the last glass of water pretending nothing happened and continued to take our order. We had to tell him to take back all the water and ordered BOTTLED drinks instead. (I didn't drink anything) Secondly, the service was horrible! Im not talking about 'I want my food pronto'..what I mean by this is we had to ask for sate (this asian chili pepper sauce) four times from three different waiters and none of them came back with the sauce!! Half way through our meal..the roach waiter finally comes out with the sauce when we asked him before ordering our food -_- I wouldn't have thought service would be this low since we had a party of 8 (could have gotten plenty tip) on a weekday (not busy).
