Eating here is obviously a special and rare occasion, but every time has been a hit! This review is based on my last visit, which is very representative of all my times dining here. I ordered the Four Persons meal which consists of Fish Maw and Crab Meat Soup, Peking Duck, Lobster w/ Ginger and Scallion, Walnut Chicken, and Seasonal Vegetable with Garlic. Fish Maw and Crab Meat Soup The soup taste great, nothing really else to talk about. No need to add in vinegar, salt, or whatever, all the flavors are on point. I could fill up just on this soup, but there are many great dishes are to come. Peking Duck Fantastic. The skin is crispy and the meat delicious. Every time I get Peking Duck from Sinh Sinh, it has consistently been a great experience. I love dumping a wallop of hoisin sauce on the buns, but the flavors from the duck skin and meat will always be shining in the foreground. Lobster w/ Ginger and Scallion Another dish I look forward to. The sauce/marinade is packed of lobster flavor and is almost just as good as the lobster itself. The lobster meat is a bit tough, but it's easy to pull out of the shell. Get your fingers dirty, lick the shells clean (inside and outside), and then lick your fingers clean. This is the way to cook and eat lobster. Walnut Chicken Honestly, this dish is all about the walnuts. Its sweetness is extremely addicting and pairs well with all the other savory components in the dish. I would prefer the Walnut Shrimp over this Walnut Chicken dish, as the chicken is a bit bland for my taste. But as long as I get my share of the walnuts, I'm happy. Seasoned Vegetables This time, the vegetables are bok choy. It appears to have been simply boiled and seasoned. Although the taste is good and the bok choy is well broken down, I personally prefer to have it stir fried, as it would have more flavor. Almond Milk in Pastry Not included in the Four Persons meal, but one dish that I must make a note for is their almond milk dessert. Similar to a pot pie, this dessert is essentially almond milk in a cup with a layer of puff pastry baked over the top, sealing it. The almond milk is sweet and feels very warm flowing down your throat. Mix the pastry in with the milk, take a bite, and take a moment to enjoy this gift before you. Move over chocolate cakes, brownies, and ice cream; this almond milk in puff pastry dessert is one of my favorites ever. Order it the next time you come to Sinh Sinh, you'll thank me. Service overall was good. The staff isn't highly interactive or very friendly, but they get the job done well. This isn't anything unusual for Asian restaurants, so don't over-analyze them and focus on the grand food before you. read more

This place is one of the older Asian restaurants in Bellaire. We used to go here often when I was a child, but once other restaurants began popping up, this place was forgotten. However, recently, when I was in the area and did not know what to eat, I decided to take my grandmother, who loves classic Chinese and Vietnamese food here for her belated birthday since it's been such a long time. We came around lunch time on a Saturday. The place was crowded with an array of people from all cultures and ages, looked promising. The service was a little slow, but the people were all nice. We had to wait for a bit before being seated, but it wasn't too bad. Our waitress was quick with getting our orders through. We ordered the dumpling soup, which is similar to the wonton soup, but with bigger dumplings. We also ordered a stir fried dry flat noodle with beef and Chinese broccoli. Both of which, are my grandmothers favorite. The food came out fairly quickly. Both dishes were good. The noodles were delicious, not overly salty and saucy with plenty of beef and veggies. The dumplings were also delicious. Although the broth was not the best I've had, the dumplings made up for it. The dumplings were huge with plenty of shrimp and pork. They were obviously to skimping on the portions. We could barely even get through half of anything. Overall, I approve of the food and so did my grandma, and that says a lot. I haven't been here in the longest time, but I might eat here more often after revisiting recently! We went lunch time on a Wednesday, so it wasn't busy. Because of this, our service was good! Our waiter was always there to help us, and if not, then someone else would help us with no problem. We only had 3 people in our group, so I have no idea what made us order so much food! We had the sizzling beef plate, shaking beef with stir fried pasta, spot prawns, stir fried water spinach, fried rice flour cake, roast duck, seafood with tofu soup, and fresh coconut jelly. Came for a late late dinner at around midnight and the place was still pretty happening with 6 or 7 tables. I did, however, notice that all the seafood left in the tanks seemed dead and flipped over. They may have just been sleeping for all I know. We came back to revisit some of our favorites, such as the razor clams and the oysters with ginger and green onion (we got the sizzling platter this time: super flavored). This time, we added black pepper and butter fried soft shell crab, which was good but not hot. We got the garlic hollow vegetables and they were really fresh and sweet. My mom also wanted some noodles so she got the beef and broccoli over pan fried noodles. I thought this was the weakest of the bunch. It was a very fulfilling late night feast. Great food, by far it's the best chinese duck I had in China town, but worst service I ever get. I went in the middle of the day, there's only 3 table, and I haven't see my server once after he bring me food. I was looking for him the whole time, no one refill my water. I have to go same where after it, I waited for 15 minutes to get some one to bring me my tab, no one care about us, no one want to make eye contact, which is funny, this is why people there don't make tip because the don't deserve it. I tip good, over 30% if people give me good service, so event I haven't see my server for 30 minutes I still put $15 dollars on table, then I waited other 15 minutes to catch someone to bring me a togo box, yes, catch someone, it even sound funny. At the end the busboy bring me few boxes, I ended up tip him $5, and I told him it's for you not the server. Some random guy(not my server) took my credit card, I set there and waited for him to comeback, 10 minutes later he is wondering in the other side of the restaurant, I was like ?????? I called him asking for my credit card, he said "go to front and get it yourself" ? Are you for real ? You can tell me that 10 minutes ago, and if I can just do that what do I even need a server, why don't I just bring my food out myself too? First of all, you must definitely check out Houston's Chinatown if you have never been before. It is not like you picture New York or San Francisco's Chinatown though. So this is one of the bigger of the MANY restaurants found in Chinatown. It was a nice, clean place with MANY tables. We were there around 2PM on a Monday and it was pretty packed, but there was no wait for a table. So, if you have ever heard people talk about "Amercanized Chinese food" you will know what they mean once you visit this place. It is TOTALLY different than anything you have experienced in other towns - even in NON chain restaurants. You won't find your traditional lemon chicken or General Tso's chicken here. The menu was at least 15 pages long and the selection was quite eclectic. We ended up settling on the pan fried noodles that came with pork, chicken, shrimp, and what we THINK may have been squid. The jury is still out on that one though... It was quite an interesting dish that we shared between the two of us and there was plenty to feed us and it was quite good. Luckily, we asked our waiter if they had orange chicken (a more Americanized dish) for the little one. Although it wasn't on the menu, they were able to accommodate. I've expected a nice nutty coconut based cream; however, I got shrimp smothered in a thick layer of mayo with candied walnuts on the side. Every one to their own taste, but not my cup of tea. I came for their Peking Duck. These people either just don't care or clueless! There's no type of organization. You walk in people standing around, and you don't know where to go. It says wait to be seated. Then, you finally see a sign in sheet. I didn't wait long for a table but nearly 15 minutes for a server. Who kept passing me up to go to the kitchen and never acknowledged me. She just walked up after 15 mins and asked if I was ready to order. She took the order brought my drink and then came back with the duck and soup all at one time. She walked away without asking if I needed anything, which I did. More water. So I had to flag her down for that because she turned around and walked away fast. So I ate never again did I see unless she wa going to three other tables that she had. I asked for water, and my check on one of the trips I managed to make eye contact with her. Get the check and I had the online price for the duck. Waitress didn't tell me I had to aske someone else because she didn't come back to take my check I walked up to the to go area. The menu says prices subject to change. I get that, but she could have told me as a courtesy. They could have insert the menu price changes with all the stickers they put in the menu would save a lot of time and hassle. I really should have left before the waitress came since it took so long but this place was referred to me. I will never dine inside again, maybe to go. Plus, it was smokey from the kitchen. I haven't been to Sinh Sinh in a while, probably because I only go with family because on my salary I couldn't afford the food without feeling a bit empty. I grew up eating here and some days its poor, and others it's great. Today was a great day. Service was pretty good, refills were amble as were bring out of utensils, napkins, they even took dishes nearly cleaned out and scooped them onto smaller plates in order create space. To begin with we ordered the cheaper dinner for 10 = $198, my cousin and I were calculating to see if if we had ordered separately would it have been cheaper or the same price. We calculated too be less than $198, but that was until we saw the food come out. The food for each dish had to be doubled in order to total out to be that much. Food was good, I'm stuffed and been food comaing since I ate 4 hours ago. The wonton soup is pretty good here (more meat then skin here), the shrimp dishes were big and tasty probably the best walnut and walnut shrimp I've had in chinatown (not too much mayo, large, and plenty of walnuts and shrimps), the sizzling beef/steak a favorite always (thick, a tad chewy, but fulfilling), egg rolls weren't the best today (probably because they lettuce they provided were all chopped, so I couldn't wrap it), Lobster was good but nothing out of the ordinary, Fried rice was pretty good as well. Sinh Sinh has been around since I was a kid, and it's still a pretty popular restaurant in Chinatown. My family and I only recently started coming back and to our surprise, nothing much has changed. The interior is large, with a lot of seating and the fish tanks and BBQ meats are visible. Additionally, the place is pretty clean for a Chinatown restaurant. For food, we ordered pan fried noodles, fried rice, and duck and wonton soup. The pan fried noodles were crisp and had good texture, and the seafood were delicious. The problem was I feel that there wasn't enough sauce on the dish. Fried rice was pretty standard. It was a sizable portion and not too oily. As for the soup, I feel that though the wontons and duck were okay, the broth didn't really have much flavor. Sinh Sinh is still a decent restaurant if you're in a large group looking for Chinese food. Service is slow but it's not unbearable. I wore my work clinic uniform and went dine in this restaurant after work but I was surprised since nobody took me to the table or ask me to take the order . I asked the servers and nobody answered me , they just looked away. I was like " wow" ! . No problem, I dont think they want to serve only one or two customers. I think this restaurant has gone down in quality. For several years, it has been one of my favorites in the area; however, while they think a lot of their food in terms of the prices, it lacks interesting flavors. We recently had dinner there again and we ordered the wonton noodle soup, water spinach with garlic, sizzling beef, and house special fried rice. We found the service to be very good. At one time, their wonton soup and wonton noodle soups were fantastic, but now they are just good and filling. There are no fresh herbs, flavors, or kick to it - still lots of noodles and wontons, but the broth is weak and bland, so it has little flavor; there are 1-2 small pieces of green vegetable and one tiny slice of pork for the order. On the up side, the shrimp wontons are still delicate and delicious. The water spinach was tasty and tender, but overcooked and limp - you know, that olive green color instead of fresh, bright green. The serving was pleasantly large and the garlic flavor was good, but overall the dish is average. The sizzling beef was very tasty, but the fried rice was BORING - there was just nothing special about it. Very little vegetables and no herbs in it - no basil, lemongrass, or cilantro; nothing. Just the miniature pale shrimp, egg, and diced pork. I don't recommend it. We were disappointed...but hopefully, the BBQ meats are still great. This place is something that stands true to the saying "don't judge a book by its cover." I have passed the restaurant several times and never have wanted to try it. Until my uncle insisted we go because he loved it. Finally we went and once I saw the inside my eyes were wide open. First, I liked how they created a small entry way that places you in a different setting. They surprised me with their display of live (although sad) seafood (crabs, lobsters, grouper). I do like animals/vegetarian so I do think it is sad, however it was interesting to watch. But then the interesting architect/decorations caught my attention. Great lighting with modern walls and ceilings. There is however slightly smaller room to move around between tables- but it was also a busy day with lots of people (we went around 8pm on a Thursday). We sat at the larger table and had a lazy Suzan that made things fun. Now to the food. I was impressed with their 206 (stir fried eggplant minus the shrimp). Their 202 crispy tofu (minus the shrimp) had a great mellow and light flavor that kept making me want some more. Their 195 (snow pea lead with garlic) was a good balance with the fried/oily food. I can't say much for the meat but I do like the sizzle and aroma that the 178 (black pepper beef ribs sizzling) brought to the experience of the meal. The rest of my family also got the 120 (crispy whole fish with hunan sauce)- which had a sweet red sauce at the side that smelled and looked delicious. My uncle raved and raved about their 35 (chicken with salted fish fried rice). He said although it smelled bad it tasted good - not to the same extent but similar to how people like durian. I appreciated how the bathroom had stalls and had the dining room decorations carried through to the bathroom. However, the bathrooms were not the cleanest (rated 3/5)- this could be also bc it is later in the evening but still. Overall however, the overall experience of the evening was pleasant and although it is not a 5/5 I still think it is worth visiting. read more

Upon stepping in it smells like an aquarium. Don't know when the fish tanks have last been cleaned. It took a while to get service. Don't expect a whole lot of warmth and friendliness but that basically applies to all of Chinatown. No one was rude thankfully but service was far in between. We got the shaking beef dish, bo luc lac. It's a Vietnamese dish but this was definitely fusion, because it was loaded with sauces. And there weren't much fresh veggies. A couple of the pieces had such tough tendons that it couldn't be eaten. The meat was rich enough on its own but it also came with a greasy fried rice. That's grease and salt overload without anything fresh to balance it. We also got the shrimp stuffed eggplant . Now this has good flavoring. The eggplant is cut thick and juicy and so was the shrimp. But argh all that grease again! The platter was a pool of grease! Our gallbladders were left working overtime trying to shovel through all the oils. The place needs a good washing. And I mean just hose it down. The tables and menus are sticky and spots all over the dishes and silverware. Even a mystery clump on my plate. And upon leaving you find miserable looking soulless fish completely stuck in one position from being placed in tanks that are too small. It's actually very depressing. read more

The menu was huge and pretty much had something for everyone. But I can't really say it blew me away either. The service was kind of slow, but everyone was nice and tried to be accommodating.
