The portion and quality won me over. The only reason why I would deduct a half point is because of the size of the garlic sauce that is provided. Not a good place to eat. The kafta kebab plate is overprice. For $16, you'll get a small amount of salty rice (lots of seasoning and not what I am expecting), a poor kafta (thin small burnt), an overrated eggplant veggie sides and a disappointing pita bread and btw the garlic sauce its worst too. It's my first time going there and definitely the last, I highly wouldn't recommend this Mediterranean place. I know the best kebab place in our city, the Green Olive. read more

Good guy.. but terrible customer service. It took us 1 hour to "get" our food. He accidentally gave it to the customer after us and told us it would be another "10" minute wait. But if the first first food took almost an hour to arrive, I don't think it's going to be another "10" minutes. Needs more help in the restaurant. Heard the food taste good but that's only if you have an hour to wait for your food, and keep in mind that there was barely anyone ahead of me. Good guy but food wise, not worth your time. read more

This place is amazing it's clean, it's fresh, no matter how stressed out or how many orders this team has they always pull through. I had the Beef shawarma with grape leaves and eggplant on the side. The portion size was generous and delicious. The owner/manager, Omar, went above and beyond to make sure that everything went well. I love going to JDO. I've never had a bad meal or experience. I live in Whittier and make it my go to Middle Eastern restaurant. I recently catered a meal at the Whittier Museum. The food arrived fresh and at the right temperature. Everyone loved it and no leftovers! The falafel is really yummy and the chicken was so tender you could cut it with a fork. I've been here many times, never had any issues and always was very satisfied with the food... until tonight. Chicken was dry, potato salad was looking and tasting different (almost like a bright green pesto) and all the food was a little cold. Mind you I ordered takeout and when I got home I found that they missed to include my pita bread. We called them, returned and they showed very little empathy about the mistake. Sucks to say but I won't be back soon... not to spend $30+ on just 2 plates and to also find out they charged us an extra 4% without letting us know beforehand because we used a debit card. This review was a bit overdue... Found this yummy restaurant via relatives. Their foods are Yummy and Reasonably priced, with generous portions. Last time we ordered by phone, the owner picked up the call and was great in helping us. My dad wanted only a Salad, but there were none on JDO's menu. Ownership or management has changed. Been frequenting this place for a while and won't be returning. Rice, tabouleh, falafel, and chicken kabob don't taste the same. The chicken kabob and kefta kabob are dry and the rice is dripping in some kind of oil. New staff has no idea what they are doing. Spent more time playing musical chairs between their stations than getting orders out. They forgot the falafel in my order and when I asked them if it was in there, the worker asked me "is it not?" Came here to get lunch to go for my wife and I. It's in a great location in Uptown Whittier. Parking is tough as they don't have their own lot but to be fair, that's common with the businesses here in Uptown. There was only 1 customer waiting for his food. I didn't mind waiting for them to finish his order. when i placed my order, i asked for the 3 skewer combo and asked for 2 chicken and 1 beef. I also ordered 2 chicken shawarmas wraps and garlic fries. They got the order wrong and gave us 1 chicken, 1 beef, and 1 lamb. Fortunately, we have no allergies it was just a preference - but imagine if someone else did? The garlic fries are only fries with garlic sauce on the side. The fries were good though. I am a fry lover and these are like mcdonald's / weinerschitnzel fries with a seasoning i can't think of but it's very good. the chicken had a nice char but the chicken in the wrap had a seasoning i wasn't a fan of. needed some salt and i'm used to wraps having some type of sauce or tzatziki sauce. this has a lot of potentials and i overheard they have new owners, i hope they make the true investment in making this what it could be, especially in its location. read more

I'm gonna give it a solid 3 stars, it's an alright place. Like others have mentioned, the quality of the food has gone down as well as the portions for the amount you're paying. (It isn't on the cheap side) Another note, I feel like the employees aren't very nice, like they legitimately don't want to be working the cash register, seems like them taking an order is a hassle for them. While there has been times you have served me some incredible meals, there has been times where the food was lackluster and it was evident no heart or soul was put into any of it. I I order falafel nearly every visit. It never taste the same pr looks the same, nor the same temp. Sometimes it's green on the inside sometimes it's brown. Sometimes it's crispy sometimes it's soggy. The second to last time i was there i told the cook that whatever i was eating was a absolutely perfect. Came back two nights later to a completely different staff and a completely let down of a meal. But they ended up charging $58.36 to my credit card statement, thinking I wouldn't notice, adding nearly $30 as tip going straight to the worker's pockets. The food here tasted home made, though it wasn't great. I had the beef shawarma plate which came with rice, pita bread and two sides. I picked the hummus and potato salad. The hummus tasted like peanuts, which I didn't enjoy. The potato salad was decent. Rice was a bit under seasoned but cooked right. The beef was decent. I also tried a bit of the lamb, chicken and eggplant salad. Thought the lamb and chicken were decent. The eggplant salad was probably the tastiest item I tried from here. Really mom-and-pop feel. The staff was really friendly. Everything is made to order--they even have a sign to let you know. I appreciated that they were properly setting expectations. I had the beef shawarma wrap. Made with marinated beef, onions, tomatoes, and tahini sauce. A solid 3.5 stars. The flavor was mild. I think the grittiness of the tahini sauce made the wrap taste dry.
