The is the first time I rented a car and would be my last time. I rented the car in Portugal and now they are charging me for a damaged tire $400.00+. After seeing Sixt's response to my first review, I went ahead and contacted them per the instructions to provide info as requested, curious to see what their response would be. I just received their reply, the body of which reads in its entirety: "Thank you for your reply. We went ahead and emailed you a final copy of your invoice. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact us again." The reference to a "final copy of your invoice" implied that the invoice had been changed so I took a look, thinking that maybe they had applied an adjustment of some kind in recognition of my aggravation. But no, it was the same invoice, same bottom line. And no mention of the issues I raised in the review, or any intention to address them. Why bother asking me to provide info on my rental if you weren't going to attempt to engage me on my experience or attempt to provide some sort of customer service? My experience started on 18 June the DC Airport with a clerk being deceptive. The government is self insured and government employees are not required to pay for supplemental insurance. The rude individual behind the counter put a 300 dollar hold on my government credit card anyway. When I called the company, I was told that the 300 was used to cover minor damage, gas and tolls (incidental insurance). When I returned the car on 23 Jun it didn't get any better. They were rude and short, when I asked for a receipt, they told me to check my email. I insisted on a paper receipt Amanda was directed to "Mike" the supervisor. He walked me to their booth where it took 10 minutes to find someone that knew how to print a receipt. read more

THE WORST car rental experience. There is no way you can reach their customer service. even if they say they have connected you with an agent, they will just hang up on you after a long wait. By the way I booked through expedia, and expedia has not any more help at all. My flight arrived late so I can not pick up the car before their close time at 11pm. I phoned in 10mins before their close time and tell them the situation, they still charged me as no show, no refund. Finally I arrived airport 2 mins before their close time and try to phone their shuttle to come pick me up, they would not pick up, technically, they were not close yet, at least they can help me cancel the booking I figured, but they were not pick up the phone. I took the taxi back to hotel and taxi back to the sixt car rental place the next morning, after all this trouble, they told me I can not get my car because the reservation is under my husband's name and I only have my husband's debit card( I accidentally grab the wrong card), then I ask to change the reservation under my name since I have a credit card, and they refuse to, the reason is I booked through expedia, and then I phone expedia to change, they refused to change as well because they say they can not reach sixt phone number to make a change. After all, I DID NOT GET A RENTAL CAR, NEITHER THE REFUND. The whole process is both time wasting and money wasting. I was traveled with a 3 year old and a one year old. Expedia and Sixt RUINED MY WHOLE TRIP. After all this negotiation, neither sixt or expedia would like to do a refund. The end. read more

Booked a reservation and I showed up only to be told that there were no cars available. And I still was charged even after the guy at the counter told me that I would be refunded. Got my invoice for a rental I never received & emailed twice about my refund I never for the rental that I never received. The only way to speak to someone was to be that guy & call the emergency roadside assistant line to get my refund handled. I did my reservations online everything was fine. I called Sixt prior to showing up to confirm everything was fine. The lady on the phone told me all I needed to pay my 200$ deposit since I'm only 21. I get to sixt I was checked in the man told me to give him 10 minutes so they can get me car. I waited the minutes he proceeded with my reservations he told me they didn't take debit cards to do reservations I told him the lady I spoke to on the phone more than once told me I didn't need a credit card.I asked if my partner can use his credit card he told me it's a 60$ fee to add him as a driver. Why can't we give negative stars? This place is terrible. The cars maybe fine, but the company is unresponsive, the app kept crashing and the website wouldn't let me log in. Couldn't get to the shuttle and ended up having to uber. Expedia couldn't even get a hold of them. Beware of Sixt O'Hare old-fashioned car rental gimmicks adding Loss Damage Waiver w/o approval!!! Never again! I made a 5-day reservation # 9902772939 on Sixt website and paid in advance to secure the price and avoid add-on gimmicks. Arrived on-time and explained to polite clerk that I didn't need any extra protection. She gave us even "free" upgrade. Upon finishing check out process to my disbelief our new price was $150 more... When I pointed to her that our original paid reservation was $150 less she said "don't worry $150 is a security deposit that it will be retuned to your credit card when car is returned..." She lied to us as we were charged $150 more and here is Sixt customer service response: Based on the documented information available, we must respectfully decline your request to remove this charge from your invoice. I had a reservation Sunday January 29th at 2pm. when I arrived there exactly at 2pm, the worker said that they were closed, so I didn't get the rental. Wish I could pick zero stars. We rented at Orlando airport 1/20/24. When we returned the car 1/26, a worker walked around the car w/ us, said it was "all good" gave my husband a tablet with signature box already up to sign. Since the attendant did not indicate any issues/concerns with the vehicle, did not stop to look closer at any part of the car and we didn't notice any damage, we signed & left. We later found out, prior to having us sign, it was notated that the rim had damage. This came as a great surprise to us-we had not noticed any damage to the rim. The attendant had not so much as bent down to examine the rim while we were there, nor did he show us the concern he was documenting to allow for us to see it in person. Instead, he misled us, by saying "all good" and provided JUST a signature box. Days later we got a bill for $800+ w/ a picture of the back of our rental car, & a few pictures of rims that were taken so close, you could not even tell what color car they were on. I could hardly see damage on a picture that close up. There is absolutely no way the attendant saw this damage in a quick one minute walk around the car without even leaning over. We received the email timestamped the moment before we walked away, so it had been documented at the time we were standing there, not after. I called Sixt 2/5/24 and asked why the person taking in the car & documenting the return had not shown us the damage if we were standing right there? Why he would tell us it was all good (& even wrote "no issues" on the section labeled remarks) if there was damage? Rep Louis told me they don't tell/show you anything in order to avoid physical altercation. Seems that their policy is to be dishonest in person, then send a bill via email w/ images that you are supposed to believe are from the car you drove. The pictures could be any vehicle. IF damage truly existed, WHY wouldn't they have shown us in person? I called and spoke with someone else 2/6 and asked for timestamped photos. The only timestamp they can show us is a picture of the dash with the time (no date) sent in the same email as the other supposed pictures of the damage. There is no meta data able to be retrieved from these pictures. They can't get any timestamp information from the branch that took the pictures. They are not able to supply further documentation to convince us we caused damage. read more

But I wanted to get on yelp to leave a review. We rented a car for a wedding at the end of September. This was by far the best rental service of ANYTHING (AirBNB, Car Rentals, Hotels) that I've ever had. My wife and I were met at the front desk by Erica (who was efficient and kept the line moving quickly). She greeted us so enthusiastically it brightened our entire day-which had been hectic from traveling. She upgraded our vehicle to something nicer than I'd ever probably drive on my own. What an efficient and excellent service you're running-especially when compared to subpar service from your competitors. Sixt will be the first service I look at every time I travel now. ...and if Erica is still there, my wife said to tell you she deserves a raise! read more

Sixt at ORD airport ...If I could give a lower review I would. When I went to check in, I was told by the agent it would be up to an hour before a car was available. I said that it was FKN ridiculous that i have to wait that long as I had a prepaid reservation. The agent told me I could not use that language at his agency. I told him, I wasn't calling him names, just that i though it was FkN ridicules. He then said , I told you not to use that word, and I have canceled your reservation.. you can try to get a refund. I asked for a manger, and the agent advised they do not have any at all. The agent initially had a name tag ID, but he removed his name tag after cancelling my reservation so I couldn't report him to the corporate office. You can see in the picture that his name tag is not available (all other agents had theirs on at all time). This was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had from anybody in the travel industry. Sixt certainly needs to have managers available and needs to better train their employees on how to deal with the public. Running away and removing your ID is inexcusable ( all other employees had their ID available, , as well as canceling a prepaid reservation because someone uses the F word describing a situation, and not directed at an employee. I would say that the employee is also correct in that Trying to get a refund from a pre-paid reservation that the agent cancelled has been exhausting , but I will keep trying, even if i need to file a small claims suite... to have to do all this , After Sixt choose to cancel this reservation, shows how little Sixt care's about their customers. read more

This car rental company is the worse I have ever rented from. They publish low rates but by time I added my wife the cost was higher than their competitive subset. Their customer service was terrible, the car I reserved was not the car I was forced to take (no other cars were available) and the car stunk of cigarette smoke. I complained about the smell and their customer service department only communicated with me after I disputed the charge with my charge card company and that communication was that they could not help because I disputed the charge. I suggest everyone finds a better car rental alternative Business owner responded with an empty apology. What a joke. I should receive a refund as the car was unusable. 8-17-20 response. I'm updating my review and changing my rating due to the good customer service that I received after my initial 1 star review about our Jetta rental not having any oil in it. After receiving a voice mail from Stuart who works out of the Chicago O'Hare office, we were reimbursed for the oil that we had to purchase and compensated a little bit for our time spent dealing with this problem. I paid a little extra to get an upgraded car, but when I went to pick it up, they did not have any and they stated they could not refund any of my rental price. To "compensate" they gave me a lower level car but said they would waive the re-fueling fee, so I could return the car without filling the tank. I did just that, and was slapped with a $100 fee. NEVER AGAIN RENTING FROM THESE GUYS! Everything about my rental experience was positive until a few days after my trip when I noticed my credit card was charged $167 more than what I agreed to pay at the time of booking ($340 to $507 to put it in perspective... a 50% increase!) When I emailed customer service to inquire what the additional charge was for, she emailed me an invoice detailing the $507 charges and said I should have received a copy of this on-site during my pick-up and that I signed my approval for this up-charge. First of all, I never received any physical copy of my receipt on-site. Secondly, when I signed my signature on the machine at the pick-up location, the charge was still $340 not $507. It's been over a week since I last told the customer service rep via email what I just typed above and still no response! I logged into my bank this morning to see that not only have they not refunded me my $167 but they have charged me ANOTHER $8! What is this $8 for?! And don't you dare say "gas" because I filled up the car at the gas station next door to the row of rental car places at the Denver airport. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service! Do yourself a favor. Don't rent their cars. Even if the pricing is very attractive they are just too sneaky and nasty. They have infinite terms and conditions which even the their manager wasn't able to find and they expect customers to read through it. Ended up wasting two hours plus with these folks to discuss all. You will not get the car type you want and they will encourage you to go up by paying more. They will ask you to travel within state. They may be in "115 countries", in the US they are worse than local car renting agencies. Oh they have " the largest BMW fleet" but good luck finding one in Illinois. Refused to see the logic in the fact that they did not have the car class I reserved, so I had to upgrade at 15.00 a day rate, but then also pay for an extra day when I was 90 minutes late. I booked a Mercedes SUV with them, I was offered a giant Nissan which was like a school bus. Declined that, then they said they could give me a BMW X4, but wouldn't reduce the rental. I took it anyway, at rental of Mercedes as I was in a hurry. After I returned the car, they tried to charge excess of $330 for smoke smell. I am an NON SMOKER and never smoked. There is no customer service number and they reply to the email slowly and send me some pictures showing ash in the car. I felt like a pacific blue marlin chasing a plastic top water bait 50 miles off the coast of Cabo San Lucas when I got done with Sixt today! Approached the counter with a printed, prepaid confirmation simply wanting my Cadillac sedan for a five day rental. After 100 key strokes and a little giggling I was informed my Cadillac was not available. The only car available was a small Volvo 60 sedan. It was explained they do not rent cars they rent categories of cars and the Caddy was in the same category as the Volvo. I asked to see the book. They showed me pictures of the sedans and in the book is a Volvo 90. By the WAY they don't have 90s. It was explained the 60 is like a 90 but smaller. Close your eyes and visualize. Facing ZERO options I begrudgingly accepting the 60. What is a man to do? Out three hundred and facing a "take it or leave it" proposition I agreed. The woman at the counter handed me a long printout. She showed me the car was effectively in Afghanistan and suggested I carefully confirm the dings, dents and anything out of place. To the escalator.... After finding the booth I noticed a Cadillac sedan. Asked if I could have that one and was informed it was a class above my rental. Upon showing the woman my confirmation she shares the Chicago location does not "carry" the Cadillac I booked. What? I booked it in Chicago for a Chicago pick up. I was given a key. Upon evaluating my 60 I noticed the dings, dangs and other war related injuries my proposed car had experienced but then there was the hood. The hood was sprung. None of the aerodynamic line of the car were in line. Additionally the car had no front plate - a requirement in Illinois. So back to the parking lot booth. The woman explained that Corporate decided not to fix the car. I asked if it was in an accident. No way exclaimed the attendant. So what happened? No idea but Corporate said not to fix it. I explained I did not want the car. And by the way a plate is required in Illinois to be displayed on the front. It was explained to me the car was registered in Florida and as such no plate was required. News to me. After getting to do you want the car or not? I was given another S60 that was not in an accident. Interestingly this car too was registered in Florida and had no front plate. Wonder if Gov. Pritzker would be ok with this firm registering all cars in Florida for use in Illinois??! I came in wary. I printed my receipt. I read all yelp reviews. My experience was exactly the same as so many others. Bait and switch. Beat up cars. Zero customer service. I am surprised Hotwire reps this company given reviews. I am likely not to use their site as a result of this experience. Hotwire should be concerned about collateral damage. One review may be inaccurate. Two may be an event (bad day). Dozen are a trend and likely a dynasty. Do not subject yourself to this company. Frustration is not worth the $10 a day you save on your VIRTUAL rental. Be safe out there Yelpers. They were charging me $1,500 (which is understandable being that this was the only company allowing reservations for a one way trip) or so I thought. I flew from Atlanta to Chicago. When I landed, I went to get my rental and was turned away!! They told me that they were sold out. They didn't even have a vehicle for me to drive for the week and return back to either facility. My reservation was reserved at O'Hare Airport. I prepaid on the website for a Standard Off Road SUV. When I arrived at the rental location I was asked if I needed an SUV which I replied with yes, that is why I booked one, since I needed that space the vehicle provided. I was informed that they no longer had those vehicles, despite my booking the vehicle and pre-paying for it. I asked what could be done, and was offered either a smaller sedan, or an upgraded vehicle which would cost additional fees. Neither one of these options provided the extra space I needed in a vehicle. I asked what the options were since I already paid, and those car options didn't help my situation at all. He told me he would talk to the manager. As he went to talk to the manger another customer walked up to the other customer support at the counter and the same situation happened. They asked the customer if he needed an SUV, and he said yes. But again, the customer was told they didn't have any SUVs and offered him the same small sedans or upgraded sedan. At this point I knew this was not just a one time occurrence, and that there is a serious problem with the booking tactics for the company. When my customer support agent came back he told me that they could give me a minivan for no additional charges. He told me "we took it from someone else who is not here yet, we don't know if they will even show up". I inquired more about if this is a common occurrence of not having vehicles for customers that booked them, and told me that this happens quite a bit, or at least inferred that is not uncommon. So within minutes, two customers, myself being one of them, were victims of this bait and switch tactic of not having vehicles which we booked. The employee did offer to submit a formal complaint to where I can receive a free rental or something of the sort but have yet to be contacted for this. This was the first of my issues with renting with your company. The second which I attest to be due to confusion by the employee was charging me for insurance on the vehicle. He told me a basic price for insurance, and I asked him if it was for the car rental costs or total insurance, and said its for the car rental not insurance. He may have mixed up the numbers of the car reservation charges and insurance charges because both were similar. I did not want insurance on the vehicle as I have my own insurance for my car which also covers rentals. I believe he honestly made a mistake with this. I think this is a systematic problem with the company. In regards to the bait and switch tactics that appeared to be taking place, I am quite concerned about that. I have used multiple car rental companies when I travel and have never had a situation like this occur. It took weeks to get a refund for the incorrectly charged insurance fees. They are a new agency & a small outfit so there are only 2 agent booths. I made it at 604 am & was met by a smiling & handsome Amit K. He was welcoming & his customer service was exceptional. I booked a jeep but he sold me on the volvo! He was so chipper & friendly on this rainy gloomy day . My deposit was $300 not $500. Amit said u do the vacationing & we will worry about the vehicle. Melissa escorted me to the car & showed me a quick overview of the new 2019 volvo SUV and i am in luv with it. This was an exceptional rental experience.
