Skipper Chowder House was crazy busy. Dinner wait was around 2 hours. One evening we decided to bite the bullet and wait. Once seated, the service was really good. The kids mac and cheese was house made and much better than the usual boxed stuff. The Cape Cod Clam Chowdah was excellent and absolutely worth ordering. It was even better than the chowders I had in Rhode Island. The Baked Chatham Scrod was just okay. The fish was a little slimier than I expected, the cracker crumb topping didn't really add anything, and the mashed potatoes and veggies were plain and underseasoned. My Cajun swordfish was amazing. It had a ton of flavor with a nice char grilled taste that worked really well. Unfortunately the sides were the same as above and underwhelming. We got a rice with butter and this was okay as well. For dessert, my son got the Nantucket Ferry, a chocolate truffle sundae. It looked good but probably wasn't worth the price. Overall, I actually had better versions of a lot of these dishes at Captain Parker's Pub, and with a much shorter wait too. I also liked CPP's menu a little more. I think a lot of Skipper's popularity comes from the location by the beach. If you get one of the tables with an ocean view, I can totally see the appeal. Otherwise, it's just a regular restaurant with nothing really to write home about. If you want the award winning clam chowdah, it's absolutely worth coming here. Same if you're craving swordfish since I didn't see that on CPP's menu. Otherwise, I'd probably recommend that place more just cuz of the wait times. read more

Location and ambiance are fine, nothing spectacular. The location is across the street from a parking lot that is adjacent to the beach - It is not beach front (1 star here) The service was great. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There had to be a 1:1 staff:customer ratio with the number of people running around. No complaints about the service beyond the chaos of so many people running around in tight quarters. 4/5. The food was delicious and exactly why we came. (Five stars for the wildly fresh chowder, lobster rolls, and swordfish!) The pickles alongside the rolls were such tasty pickles. The bread roll on the hot buttered lobster roll was a bit spongy, bland and unpleasant while the bread roll on the cold lobster roll was a fresh, well seasoned crisp artisan roll. Great find for dinner on Cape Cod, MA. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance was busy for a Sunday night, but was casual dining. Most of our food was really good. I did find the coleslaw lacking flavor. I did try the Quahog. Very tasty, but the mushy texture inside surprised me. I was expecting a hush puppy texture. But this wasn't enough not to give them 5 stars. The clam chowder was really good also. Out of respect for the clam chowder, I'll give it 3 stars. Front host stand was not nice, and our service was less than spectacular. Baked Scrod was subpar. Clam chowder was very good which makes total sense. Definitely have to get here early if you want a seat quick. By 5pm line is backing up outside. This might've been my favorite meal of our trip last summer! There was a bit of a wait, so we went to the beach across the street and walked while we waited. It was definitely packed inside during the peak dinner time, full of families on vacation to local couples. I'm so glad we were patient because the food was so good! The staff was really nice.. from the hostess to the waitress to the random staff member who held the door open for us on the way out. Driven by this place for years and finally decided to try it out. Got there at 2:30 and the place was quite crowded but were seated immediately. The menu is large with a lot of seafood choices on it. We started out with their award winning clam chowder which was probably the best I've had. It was thick and creamy and piping hot. This is probably the best restaurant in Cape Cod, not even joking. So what if it's touristy, if you can get in (wait can be up two hours long in the summer months) it's absolutely WORTH IT. Their homemade clam chowder has a unique, almost spicy/peppery flavor that makes it stand out. The fried clam chowder cakes are great to dip in it! Since I was pregnant and craving Mac and cheese, I got the lobster Mac and cheese and it was PHENOMENAL. My first experience with lobster Mac and cheese at a different restaurant left me disappointed and sick so I was nervous to give it another shot, and I was blown away by how good it was. Got chowder for takeout. Restaurant was super crowded for multiple nights, so definitely recommend making a reservation or ordering carryout. We ordered at the walk-up desk, and service was quick once our order had been placed. The chowder was warm, hearty, and filling. Thick and creamy without any huge bits of clam that were too chewy or salty, but still with clam flavor. We also reheated some of it on the stove the next day, and it was just as good! read more

Dropped by for lunch on the enclosed (and heated) top deck, and lunch was so good the rest of our party insisted we go back for dinner! Pictured are my calamari roll and fried clam chowder from lunch. The roll was so delicious I ordered it again at dinner, and the house made kettle chips were the first time I've liked a kettle chip. They even had a gluten free roll so my best friend could eat her first ever lobster roll. Staff was very friendly and accommodating--my mom needs to be gluten free, and not only did the staff work to get her a meal that made her happy, it was clearly labeled in our takeout order. For the quahog-curious, the menu says "try it!" so I did. Served up on a shell, the Stuffed Quahog is a brown mass of things mixed together, namely quahog, bread crumbs, sausage, bell peppers, and spices. I enjoyed the flavor, which I can't quite describe. Like the menu says, "try it!" We also ordered the Lobster Ravioli, which was fantastic, as well as the clam chowder. I actually had a partial cup of chowder earlier that day, but I still had room for a little more. Skipper's chowder was thicker and had plenty of chunks of clam. I wish we had room for ice cream! Past the summer season, the Skipper was one of the only restaurants open in the area. It was already much cooler mid-October and they had their upstairs patio covered. After a 20 minute walk in the dark for dinner, I think it was worth it! Very kind service and comfortable atmosphere. I had serious thoughts about leaving with some Skipper merchandise. read more

I wish I could give this place an even higher rating because it was truly fabulous! Niko, our waiter, is one of the best I've ever had. Despite serving a party of 12, she was absolutely flawless, coordinating seamlessly with the kitchen from beginning to end. The food, service, and ambiance are second to none. We also had a food allergy in our group, and the manager personally came to our table twice to make sure we were informed and well taken care of--something that is unfortunately all too rare. That level of attentiveness and hospitality made an already wonderful experience even more exceptional. As an added bonus, they even have an adorable little ice cream shop connected to the restaurant, which was the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. read more

We went last night around 7:30 (Wednesday mid Aug). I was expecting a wait from the other reviews and that was fine... I think they were telling everyone an hour and a half but it wound up being about 50 minutes. I wanted to get there a little earlier... but I'm not sure that would have made a difference for the wait. Just a note... the porch looks super crowded but not everyone is waiting for a table... some people are getting take out and there's also a window where you can buy ice cream. We were seated inside on the first floor. It was pretty loud but it's a busy place! I wish we could have sat outside on the second floor but oh well. I was impressed with how new and clean everything looked. Our server was Sheila and she was very nice. Our food didn't take that long and everything was delicious. We had the calamari appetizer and for entrees we had the fish and chips with onion rings, the fisherman's platter and my daughter, who doesn't like seafood, had the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. We don't usually eat fried seafood but, when in Rome....! We are only in the Cape for a few days and we do want to try other places, but I'd highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Lobster wasnt great and the roll was awful tasted stale . My wife and mother both got fish tacos and onion rings and barely ate any of it . This was our first visit here as we were in the mood to try a new (to us) seafood restaurant on the Cape and it did not disappoint. The clam chowder was delicious (I can see why it's an award winner) and the calamari was hot and fresh. I had the fish sandwich which was very good (with a side of coleslaw). You need to have the entire party to get seated, and there is an upstairs and downstairs seating area. For the 6 of us, we got the clambake (for 4), summer salad, and lobster mac and cheese. The clambake had potatoes, delicious corn, linguica (some liked this the most), lobster of course (one even had roe, but was cooked too hard), steamers (first time eating these - you have to wash them in broth first), and Mussels. It also came with 4 cups of clam chowder that was delicious. The mac and cheese was good, and we ended up putting the remaining lobster meat in there. The summer salad was the type of salad I needed - fresh vegetables and some fruit sweetness. The bloody Mary is custom to order, and was strong in liquor. I got the steamer pot which had a full lobster, steamer clams, muscles, potatoes, corn, sausage and hot butter - served with a bib! For non-locals - if you are NOT familiar with steamers, check them out first! I have personally on every had "little neck clams" - never knew with they were called that until I got steamers in New England. The necks definitely freaked me out a little bit Buttt the pot was still delish. Waiter offered to help with cracking the lobster but I was in it! Sausage was a little overcooked and lobster claw meat was rubbery but the tail was great! All in all, id go back but probably get something else. We also tried one of their local draft beers. I have to hand it to them. The best tuna nachos ever!! You get a very large portion and lots of fresh perfectly cut tuna with perfect flavor. Chowder was absolutely delicious - thick, creamy and full of clams. All our entrees came out hot and portions were generous. We arrived off season on May 19, and it was in the middle of the afternoon around 2:00. I have to say it was so very good. The wait staff were so polite and welcoming. We had the clam chowder. It's a creamy clam chowder, which husband does not enjoy. However, it was tasty. I do like a creamy clam chowder and this was heavy. Delicious but heavy. I'm glad I ordered only a cup. We split the seafood fish platter. It was plenty for the two of us. I think it would have been good for 3 people. You could tell everything was fresh. It was amazing! Even the oils they fried it all in was fresh. This is a great place to stop. Again, off season, I'm sure is a different animal than the busy season. Being on the water made me give it the 5th star.
