We love Skipper Chowder House! Their clam chowder is possibly the best I've ever had. The lobster rolls are super fresh and tasty. Their clam strips are perfect and the fries are crisp and delish. Lives up to the hype. Incredibly fresh and delicious seafood in that summer beach setting. The clam chowder is so creamy and well seasoned. The lobster roll is full of chunky lobster with a great light mayo. The clam strips are surprisingly good too. They have a nice sweet batter that is addicting. Location and ambiance are fine, nothing spectacular. The location is across the street from a parking lot that is adjacent to the beach - It is not beach front (1 star here) The service was great. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There had to be a 1:1 staff:customer ratio with the number of people running around. No complaints about the service beyond the chaos of so many people running around in tight quarters. 4/5. The food was delicious and exactly why we came. (Five stars for the wildly fresh chowder, lobster rolls, and swordfish!) The pickles alongside the rolls were such tasty pickles. The bread roll on the hot buttered lobster roll was a bit spongy, bland and unpleasant while the bread roll on the cold lobster roll was a fresh, well seasoned crisp artisan roll. For the better bread alone, order the cold lobster roll supreme (but dont eat too fast and beware of shells!) read more

Got chowder for takeout. Restaurant was super crowded for multiple nights, so definitely recommend making a reservation or ordering carryout. We ordered at the walk-up desk, and service was quick once our order had been placed. The chowder was warm, hearty, and filling. Thick and creamy without any huge bits of clam that were too chewy or salty, but still with clam flavor. We also reheated some of it on the stove the next day, and it was just as good! read more

Driven by this place for years and finally decided to try it out. Got there at 2:30 and the place was quite crowded but were seated immediately. The menu is large with a lot of seafood choices on it. We started out with their award winning clam chowder which was probably the best I've had. It was thick and creamy and piping hot. My wife and I split the fisherman's platter which was more than enough food as we still had leftovers. This might've been my favorite meal of our trip last summer! There was a bit of a wait, so we went to the beach across the street and walked while we waited. It was definitely packed inside during the peak dinner time, full of families on vacation to local couples. I'm so glad we were patient because the food was so good! The staff was really nice.. from the hostess to the waitress to the random staff member who held the door open for us on the way out. Seafood is fresh, while service was prompt and friendly. On a nice day, sit out on the patio deck for great views of the beach across the street. Highlights of the meal were the fisherman's platter and clam chowder. The service is often ok but the environment is half decent and it is very accessible from the beach. Not to mention Yarmouth, although a good vacation spot it definitely lacks in good food places. So you certainly have to take what you can get. But in my opinion the food was alright, I got the skipper burger and it did the job but was overall just a decent meal. The server and service was hands down incredible ..: but the food sucked , from boston and came down to the cape for a week. Alot of buzz on this place and man the food just sucked . Lobster wasnt great and the roll was awful tasted stale . My wife and mother both got fish tacos and onion rings and barely ate any of it . My kids ate the french fries and our server was one of the best iv ever had . Unfortunately the food just isnt good here . Iv eaten seafood all over the south shore and cape. Dropped by for lunch on the enclosed (and heated) top deck, and lunch was so good the rest of our party insisted we go back for dinner! Pictured are my calamari roll and fried clam chowder from lunch. The roll was so delicious I ordered it again at dinner, and the house made kettle chips were the first time I've liked a kettle chip. They even had a gluten free roll so my best friend could eat her first ever lobster roll. Staff was very friendly and accommodating--my mom needs to be gluten free, and not only did the staff work to get her a meal that made her happy, it was clearly labeled in our takeout order. I heard about the place from the locals. I figured I'd try it out. The place was jammed. Service was excellent . The bartender upstairs, George was a really nice guy. He makes really good drinks. Thank you for your service George. I ordered clam chowder and steamers, I kid you not, they were out in 10 minutes. The steamers were kinda on a large side. I personally like them smaller. They could've been a little bit more cleaner, but they were still pretty good. The chowder was rich and creamy all the ingredients were there very nice, also I ordered the lobster ravioli. It was pretty good, but I thought the ravioli would have lobster on the inside, but I was wrong, but it was still pretty good with a good chunk of lobster in the middle. The atmosphere was outdoorsy, very upbeat. Prices were a little high on the drinks. Prices were reasonable. The bathrooms were clean. Service was great. I wish I could give this place an even higher rating because it was truly fabulous! Niko, our waiter, is one of the best I've ever had. Despite serving a party of 12, she was absolutely flawless, coordinating seamlessly with the kitchen from beginning to end. The food, service, and ambiance are second to none. We also had a food allergy in our group, and the manager personally came to our table twice to make sure we were informed and well taken care of--something that is unfortunately all too rare. That level of attentiveness and hospitality made an already wonderful experience even more exceptional. As an added bonus, they even have an adorable little ice cream shop connected to the restaurant, which was the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. read more

For the quahog-curious, the menu says "try it!" so I did. Served up on a shell, the Stuffed Quahog is a brown mass of things mixed together, namely quahog, bread crumbs, sausage, bell peppers, and spices. I enjoyed the flavor, which I can't quite describe. Like the menu says, "try it!" We also ordered the Lobster Ravioli, which was fantastic, as well as the clam chowder. I actually had a partial cup of chowder earlier that day, but I still had room for a little more. Skipper's chowder was thicker and had plenty of chunks of clam. I wish we had room for ice cream! Past the summer season, the Skipper was one of the only restaurants open in the area. It was already much cooler mid-October and they had their upstairs patio covered. After a 20 minute walk in the dark for dinner, I think it was worth it! Very kind service and comfortable atmosphere. I had serious thoughts about leaving with some Skipper merchandise. read more

We arrived off season on May 19, and it was in the middle of the afternoon around 2:00. I have to say it was so very good. The wait staff were so polite and welcoming. We had the clam chowder. It's a creamy clam chowder, which husband does not enjoy. However, it was tasty. I do like a creamy clam chowder and this was heavy. Delicious but heavy. I'm glad I ordered only a cup. We split the seafood fish platter. It was plenty for the two of us. I think it would have been good for 3 people. You could tell everything was fresh. It was amazing! Even the oils they fried it all in was fresh. This is a great place to stop. Again, off season, I'm sure is a different animal than the busy season. Being on the water made me give it the 5th star. A great restaurant next to the beach with beautiful views from the deck. There's plenty of parking with an attached ice cream stall. The staff were great and pulled down the shades when it got pretty hot in the sun. The local beer brewed for the restaurant is refreshing and perfect on a nice day. The clam chowder is creamy with great flavor and a good amount of clams. The fisherman's platter is cooked to perfection, for the price I do think the portion of seafood is light but comparable to local restaurants. You need to have the entire party to get seated, and there is an upstairs and downstairs seating area. For the 6 of us, we got the clambake (for 4), summer salad, and lobster mac and cheese. It was a lot of food and we had tons of leftovers. The clambake had potatoes, delicious corn, linguica (some liked this the most), lobster of course (one even had roe, but was cooked too hard), steamers (first time eating these - you have to wash them in broth first), and Mussels. It also came with 4 cups of clam chowder that was delicious. The mac and cheese was good, and we ended up putting the remaining lobster meat in there. The summer salad was the type of salad I needed - fresh vegetables and some fruit sweetness. The bloody Mary is custom to order, and was strong in liquor. We chose Skippers because they had great reviews. Definitely didnt let us down. As always, wife got the burger which she said was definitely a hit. I got the steamer pot which had a full lobster, steamer clams, muscles, potatoes, corn, sausage and hot butter - served with a bib! For non-locals - if you are NOT familiar with steamers, check them out first! I have personally on every had "little neck clams" - never knew with they were called that until I got steamers in New England. The necks definitely freaked me out a little bit Buttt the pot was still delish. Waiter offered to help with cracking the lobster but I was in it! Sausage was a little overcooked and lobster claw meat was rubbery but the tail was great! All in all, id go back but probably get something else. We came by for a late lunch. We sat out on the upper deck. It was nice and comfortable with a freeze. We tried their sangria and it wasn't the greatest but it was ok. I liked it had fresh fruits. We also tried one of their local draft beers. I have to hand it to them. The best tuna nachos ever!! You get a very large portion and lots of fresh perfectly cut tuna with perfect flavor. The wasabi dressing was the best and specially with avocado and seaweed salad. We also ordered the boiled lobster pot. It was enough for both of us since the tuna nachos was so much. Chowder was absolutely delicious - thick, creamy and full of clams. All our entrees came out hot and portions were generous. Came into Skipper's right before closing at the end of the season and I had the best meal of my trip! I had never tried a lobster roll before so the meet in the middle roll with garlic aioli and butter was DELICIOUS. I split that and the jumbo shrimp which was also amazing. The biggest shrimp I've ever seen and they were cooked perfectly. They had a great snap and the cocktail sauce was a must. The food also came out insanely fast, and the restaurant was pretty packed. We came with four children under the age of 10, the manager promptly addressed our allegory concerns and our server Nico was the best! Charming spot near the water if the weather allows you to see it! Food was decent and the server was very friendly! The chowder was in fact delicious and the garlic aoli on the lobster roll took things up a notch. There are lots of great lobster rolls on the cape and this one does the trick! We ordered the swordfish and it didn't have much flavor so I'd stick to the classics with this spot. Better than anything we ate however was the ice cream from the shack right out front. read more

Service super fast and totally five stars. Food was great 4.5 stars. We had a summer salad with strawberries blueberries and Gorgonzola that was great. Also had the fisherman's platter which was more than enough for two. Main detracting factor here are the crowds- over an hour wait for a table - and once we were seated we ended up next to a party of 12-15 which contained more young kids than adults. The kids were actually pretty well behaved but it was chaotic with parents continually getting up to escort kids to the restroom and trying to corral all the food orders. The room where we were seated was all tile walls too which made it very loud and unpleasant. While food and service were great not sure we'd return during peak season again due to the hectic ambience- not relaxing and not romantic at all. Maybe you'd have better luck with their outdoor seating. read more
