Bloody Mary with bacon, pickle, and blue cheese stuffed olives
    Chris P.

We love Skipper Chowder House! Their clam chowder is possibly the best I've ever had. The lobster rolls are super fresh and tasty. Their clam strips are perfect and the fries are crisp and delish. Also their Bloody Mary is better than I can make, and that says a lot. The staff is very friendly and attentive. This is a great place to go for lunch. Be sure to sit outside on the patio.

Lives up to the hype. Incredibly fresh and delicious seafood in that summer beach setting. The clam chowder is so creamy and well seasoned. The lobster roll is full of chunky lobster with a great light mayo. The clam strips are surprisingly good too. They have a nice sweet batter that is addicting. If there is a line just put your name down and go hang out at the beach across the street.

Driven by this place for years and finally decided to try it out. Got there at 2:30 and the place was quite crowded but were seated immediately. The menu is large with a lot of seafood choices on it. We started out with their award winning clam chowder which was probably the best I've had. It was thick and creamy and piping hot. My wife and I split the fisherman's platter which was more than enough food as we still had leftovers. The fried whole belly clams were delicious and the scallops huge as nd sweet and fried to perfection. The fried shrimp were enormous and I had to cut them in 3 pieces to eat just one.

This might've been my favorite meal of our trip last summer! There was a bit of a wait, so we went to the beach across the street and walked while we waited. It was definitely packed inside during the peak dinner time, full of families on vacation to local couples. I'm so glad we were patient because the food was so good! The staff was really nice.. from the hostess to the waitress to the random staff member who held the door open for us on the way out. We were here almost 8 months ago and I am still thinking about the food we had! Portion sizes were huge, so definitely bring an appetite.

10/10 Best chowder I have ever had in my life Supreme lobster roll was huge ! Great service Even better location

The server and service was hands down incredible ..: but the food sucked , from boston and came down to the cape for a week. Alot of buzz on this place and man the food just sucked . Lobster wasnt great and the roll was awful tasted stale . My wife and mother both got fish tacos and onion rings and barely ate any of it . My kids ate the french fries and our server was one of the best iv ever had . Unfortunately the food just isnt good here . Iv eaten seafood all over the south shore and cape. This was a huge disappointment . Unfortunately places are paying influencers to buzz up places that arent good and this is whats happening here . Dont waste your money.

Dropped by for lunch on the enclosed (and heated) top deck, and lunch was so good the rest of our party insisted we go back for dinner! Pictured are my calamari roll and fried clam chowder from lunch. The roll was so delicious I ordered it again at dinner, and the house made kettle chips were the first time I've liked a kettle chip. They even had a gluten free roll so my best friend could eat her first ever lobster roll. Staff was very friendly and accommodating--my mom needs to be gluten free, and not only did the staff work to get her a meal that made her happy, it was clearly labeled in our takeout order. Cannot recommend highly enough.

    Steamers and chowdah!

I heard about the place from the locals. I figured I'd try it out. The place was jammed. Service was excellent . The bartender upstairs, George was a really nice guy. He makes really good drinks. Thank you for your service George. I ordered clam chowder and steamers, I kid you not, they were out in 10 minutes. The steamers were kinda on a large side. I personally like them smaller. They could've been a little bit more cleaner, but they were still pretty good. The chowder was rich and creamy all the ingredients were there very nice, also I ordered the lobster ravioli. It was pretty good, but I thought the ravioli would have lobster on the inside, but I was wrong, but it was still pretty good with a good chunk of lobster in the middle. The atmosphere was outdoorsy, very upbeat. Prices were a little high on the drinks. Prices were reasonable. The bathrooms were clean. Service was great. Good place to try out if you're looking for something different.

A cold, cloudy weekday early evening, and still a full house! Quick service. Clam chowder so thick you can eat it with a fork. Overstuffed fresh lobster rolls. A view of the water from the upstairs deck. We will be back- maybe even tomorrow!

Food was delicious, service was lovely and fast, and to finish the evening with ice cream was a treat! We were seated just across the street from the beach which made for a lovely view. A little bit of rain passed through and we were delighted by a rainbow. Can't wait to visit again!

The staff was very kind and accommodating with sitting us outside on top floor. The food was not only delicious but came out pretty quickly. I can see why this place is busy all day long & glad I snuck in for early dinner. Definitely will come back next time I travel to cape. The ambiance is nice regardless if inside or outside.

    Lobster Ravioli and Quahog
    Celina G.

For the quahog-curious, the menu says "try it!" so I did. Served up on a shell, the Stuffed Quahog is a brown mass of things mixed together, namely quahog, bread crumbs, sausage, bell peppers, and spices. I enjoyed the flavor, which I can't quite describe. Like the menu says, "try it!" We also ordered the Lobster Ravioli, which was fantastic, as well as the clam chowder. I actually had a partial cup of chowder earlier that day, but I still had room for a little more. Skipper's chowder was thicker and had plenty of chunks of clam. I wish we had room for ice cream! Past the summer season, the Skipper was one of the only restaurants open in the area. It was already much cooler mid-October and they had their upstairs patio covered. After a 20 minute walk in the dark for dinner, I think it was worth it! Very kind service and comfortable atmosphere. I had serious thoughts about leaving with some Skipper merchandise.

    Fish fry platter. So good!

We arrived off season on May 19, and it was in the middle of the afternoon around 2:00. I have to say it was so very good. The wait staff were so polite and welcoming. We had the clam chowder. It's a creamy clam chowder, which husband does not enjoy. However, it was tasty. I do like a creamy clam chowder and this was heavy. Delicious but heavy. I'm glad I ordered only a cup. We split the seafood fish platter. It was plenty for the two of us. I think it would have been good for 3 people. You could tell everything was fresh. It was amazing! Even the oils they fried it all in was fresh. This is a great place to stop. Again, off season, I'm sure is a different animal than the busy season. Being on the water made me give it the 5th star. This is my new favorite on the Cape.

My first glass of vinho verde wine was served at room temperature (the second was fine), and the side plate I was given was crusted with dried food residue. I also watched an employee behind the bar wipe her nose with her hand and then continue slicing citrus barehanded. The chicken empanadas were good but not particularly special. We also had one of the small pizzas, which was the best thing of the night, crispy and flavorful (with a little char at the edges, which we like). The decor is a little bananas (different shades of green between the walls, the napkins, the barstools, and the banquettes; five kinds of lighting fixtures; lots of sound and lighting items with exposed, hasty-looking wiring). The bathroom door doesn't really close and lock properly. And the restaurant is really loud, even half full. The writing on the menu, about family members and special recipes, tells me that there's pride here and real care about making a good restaurant. However, without the attention to detail (particularly cleanliness and hygiene!), that's kind of moot. Three stars instead of two here because the pizza was good and the staff obviously care about customers.

This year we came back because of how outstanding last year was. I ordered the chili again, even though I knew it meant I probably wouldn't eat my whole meal. BEST meal I have EVER had. Ever. I had the cod. Baked. With pesto, and sun-dried tomatoes. Served with roasted potatoes and spinach. So flaky. So tender. Perfectly cooked. The flavor was something straight from heaven. Breaks my heart I'm not local. I'd eat this weekly. All of the staff is always so friendly. We also tried the meatloaf, and it genuinely reminded us of our grandmother's from years ago -- comforting, hearty, and full of flavor. That's not something you find everywhere. Even in the middle of winter, the place had a warm, lively vibe. We ended up having a great conversation with someone we later found out was the owner -- just chatting about everyday life. This is a really appealing, intimate, mom and pop (and summer help waitress) place. The hostess/ front of house boss, who was operating from the bar of this 10-12 table location, was gracious and endearing (in the way that an almost overbearing host can be- that meant as a compliment). The drinks took a minute, my fiancé's salad needed blue cheese brought out as it was left off (single most off-putting thing: the waitress, I suspect language mastery being the cause of this rather than malice or willful deceit, flat out told her that blue cheese did not come with the wedge salad...but when boss lady at the bar was asked, this was quickly corrected), there was a heavy does of reggae music. All of this less than optimal. The food was very good, though I can't remember off the top of my head what I had (it's been a month). Nor did I take pics: it seemed like it'd detract from the experience. There weren't any complaints about the food from others. (So I went back and looked at the menu: potstickers as an app- pretty good; baked local seafood as the main- good, but it is what it is in that not a ton of nuance added so as to let the seafood do the talking. The portion was decent for the price. I didn't leave stuffed, but for $38, very reasonable.) All in all, the first visit merits a second visit next year (as the website says they are temporarily closed to seek new management).
