Some people who left the review mentioned they came here when they were younger back in the 90s. I don't think it is the same owner now. I can tell the restaurant used to be an American Fish and Chips place. Now, it's run by several Indians. They even serve Indian food and Indian inspired pizzas, but also serve Fish and Chips. I ordered a 4 piece for 11.99. The fish pieces are pretty big, but they don't taste like they are freshly battered. If I want normal fish and chips, I'd go back to Ivar's. read more

I ordered thru grubhub. The driver was quick, kind, and very accurate. I paid $6.99 for a milkshake that was 2 inches from being full. At the widest part of the cup of course. When I called the man that answered the phone at Skipper's didn't even say Skipper so I thought I had the wrong number. Then he acted angry when I asked him if it was Skipper's. I explained about my milkshake and this man had the nerve to say the driver must have drank it. Are you freaking kidding me!!! Blaming a driver!!!? Made no offer to make it right. I'm calling again tomorrow and maybe I'll get a real manager. I'm more angry that he tried to insinuate the driver put his mouth on my milkshake cup!!! read more

Way back in the 90's I rode bikes with my neighbor to a Skipper's in Federal Way. Paper-route money was traded for "All-You-Can-Eat English Style" fish n' chips, and the two of us would pig out without touching the "malt vinegar" bottle on the table. I was always happy they put those bottles of brown vinegar by the napkins, however, since it smelled so interesting and I liked to imagine what type of person really wanted that on fish. Is this Kent gas station takeout the same Skipper's as the Clinton era bestowed on Western Washington? Does the food itself relate? The two of us went recently to find out. My friend was here in Washington as the original chain went out of business, so I told him not to Google it. He didn't know this mystery-spot existed until I told him we were going to Skipper's after a couple decades that we didn't go to Skipper's. I very specifically asked that my buddy NOT Google this new bizarro-world-skippers before trying it, because I hadn't really seen a lower Yelp rating that looked legit. I also let him know that I was just going to order the classic times two - just the fish n' chips for us. No chowder. (they don't have "English Style" beer-batter here, only an approximation of the "Original Style") Was it just a familiar logo that somebody put on a gas station because they thought they could get away with it? Maybe. But we both enjoyed our meal, and agreed that it did taste and look similar to the Skipper's Original Style of our youth. This was well-fried and hit the spot. As kids we'd order a round of "Original Style" occasionally to mix things up during the poor server's relay-race to the kitchen, bringing basket after basket of "English Style" to fat kids. I give this new Bizarro World 2020 Skipper's four stars because the people running it were very cool, and the specific meal we had was a good value by today's local takeout pricing standards. When the guy behind the counter didn't blink and just filled up lots of little plastic cups with high-grade tartar sauce (both my friend and I will try balancing a tablespoon of it on a fingerful of fries,) I knew I'd be back to try the Indian food on the menu. If you want nostalgic fish n' chips made in a gas station by an Indian family that doesn't speak much English but also smiles and doesn't try charging you money when you ask for six extra tartar sauces - this is the place to be. read more

Gorton's fish sticks are a better option than Skippers Fish and chips. Campbell's clam chowder is 10 times better than Skippers clam chowder. Our fries were a combination of regular fries and crinkle fries straight out of a Ore Ida fry bag. The shrimp and clam combination taste like fried fancy feast. Never again will I even order water from this place as I'm sure it also comes from the same swamp they get their ingredients. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. Dying of starvation in a post apocalyptic world is a better option than eating here. read more

THE FISH WAS DELICIOUS! But it was probably the only thing edible in my order. I also had the clam chowder but it was the most disgusting chowder ever! Growing up in pre-dotcom Seattle, I loved visiting Skipper's Fish & Chips restaurants. Their rise, fall, and current attempt to re-establish themselves would make a fascinating business study. This location is a tiny mini-franchise spot inside a Union 76 gas station/convenience store. Is it worth the visit? Depends... THE ROSES: Ample parking and easy to find. If you loved Skippers, you won't be disappointed with the food. The fish, chowder, tartar sauce, etc., is just how they used to do it. Staff is courteous. THE THORNS: Run-down dining space. Loud Indian music (the space also has a little Indian restaurant, if you can believe that) was very distracting, but the proprietor did turn it down without my asking. Not only is the staff courteous, they are also considerate. NEITHER ROSE NOR THORN: Having grown up in Kent, but moved away over 30 years ago, it is fascinating to see its decline from a once solid middle/upper-middle class suburb to a rather downmarket victim of the trend of more affluent people returning to cities. Still, the area has a very large and vibrant immigrant population that has moved into the crumbling strip malls and former chain restaurants, and, much like the hermit crab makes a home out of the cast off shells of others, have established small, interesting 'bootstrap' businesses in them. The south end's story is definitely not over, and immigrants are writing the next chapter here. THE VERDICT: With the closest full-service Skipper's restaurant in far-off Puyallup, this is your only bet if you have a craving to return to the tastes of that classic PNW seafood chain. If you have no particular fond memories of Skippers, you'll probably find little reason to bring you here. read more

Still garbage. The chowder looks like chicken noodle soup that's been sitting out too long so it turned into jelly. Tasted like that too. The clams tasted disgusting. The fries were gross. You pay 12 dollars for literally 2 pieces of small ass everything. Don't waste your money here. I tried to give them a second chance. They're trash. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE This place is in the backside of a disgusting gas station, dirt and grime everywhere, and I even witnessed another customer trying to give someone on the kitchen side a can of Raid! Two other orders came out before mine, and when it came out the guy working the kitchen wanted me to check it with the guy running the gas station, but gas station guy got upset when I asked him to put gloves on while checking my food. Apparently this angered him so much that he attempted to take my food back while yelling at me about gloves and going back to the restaurant side to have my food made again. I demanded he gave me MY food that I ordered, and he eventually did by tossing it at me, but I didn't feel like it was even safe to eat it at that point. read more

The worst food I've ever tested . I ordered food from this restaurant and when I recived my order, all food containers were melted on the food. The oil they used to fry was so old and even you can test that. I started vomiting after about an hour after I ate a small portion of that food. Horrible food quality. Very bad test. read more

I just got the fish and chips and honestly it reminds me a lot of how it was 20 year ago when I was a kid. Yes its not the best fish and chips but this is a fast food joint so dont expect to be blown away. I will say the portions are solid, nowadays you go to Ivars and basically get tiny fish sticks.. these are still the same big pieces I got as a kid. read more

The food is decent but onlygo here if you don't mind getting ripped off. they are over charging customers who don't carefully look at their receipt. at the register tried to charge me 25$ for an $18 order. I called him out on it, he tried to bs. I pointed at the take out menu and showed him the 8.99 price for what he was trying to charge $13.99 for, then he changed it. Was not the first time either, I suspected it the 1st time and caught them the 2nd. They over charge for items inside the store too. But those days are long gone, now its in the back of some gas station mini mart and its not even close to those days I remember.... Talk about a big disappointment today was, #1 the fish and the fries taste like it was cooked in old dirty oil !!! #2, the crowder taste like #2, 1 spoonful was enough for me, I was so mad, I paid something like $6 bucks for the soap and I could only take a spoonful of it before saying, hell no !!! If I wasn't short on time, I wanted to ask for a refund, it was that bad, all of it ... Never again !!!! But I should have known better, its at a flippin gas station, really its my own fault, I was hoping it was the days of the old and it wasn't, oh well ... This is not the Skipper's that I'm used too. We had a hard time looking for this place, and when we finally found it, hubby and I looked at each other in shock. They were inside the gasoline station, half Indian food and half Skipper's. The food wasn't that bad. Bad experience, went 7/16/21 first nobody greeting customers, or waiter to take order. Second the didn't have any pepper shakers to go with the salt, then as I was eating I looked up and noticed on the beam above had 2 United State flags upside down! Which offended me very badly. Plus next no communication between the staff. Then when me and my party where getting ready to leave asked for bill, and cashier told me to go talk to the cook, who asked me what I had ordered. Very disorganized place do not recommend this place to anyone, but the thing that got me the most was the flags being dishonored so. Sad sad day. I was looking forward to getting Skippers take out in Kent tonight after a meeting. I rarely go that way and there are no Skippers around me so I thought I would try it. Not like the good 'ol days. First off, it is a mini mart. It's at the back of the store and there was no one around. I had to hit the bell to get someone to come out. Long story short, 15 minutes later he came out with my order. The fish is pretty much old-school fish from skippers, I will give them that. The tartar is similar as well. The fries are different and tasted weird so I did not eat them. The coleslaw is a joke. It is a bunch of mayonnaise with a little bit of cabbage chunks in it. Didn't eat that either. Nothing like the old Skippers. The chowder was similar but it had heavy duty parsley which over took the taste. I won't be going back. It's sad to see the old Skippers go. I think the closest one to me from Seattle would be Puyallup. Too bad they all have closed down. read more
