My wife and I are there twice. The ambiance was great and felt welcoming. The food was delicious, we had the Crab Egg Benedict, Chicken Fried steak and the breakfast sandwich. The Bloody Mary was straight forward and one of the best I had in Washington!! Service was expected for a busy location and they were accommodating for any mistakes made. We visited Skylarks while we were in town last year and had to make sure we came back this trip. Our breakfast was even better than I remembered, with the potatoes and homemade jam being the highlight of the meal. We ordered the farmers veggie omelette and California avocado omelette, which were both yummy. Our server was so kind and bubbly, making for a great experience. We'll be back again! Do not pass up this gem! We happened upon this cafe while walking in Fairhaven, and we lucked out! The clam chowder truly is award winning. 5 stars for the chowder! Over many years we have enjoyed our dining experiences at Skylarks. We like to take guests there for breakfast. Recently, we had some out of town visitors join us at Skylarks for dinner. Nothing felt warm and cozy, as it once did. No tablecloths, cheap photos on the walls....sort of one step up from a fast food restaurant. The meals were mediocre, although the clam chowder was as wonderful as always. Our service was good! To me, Skylarks has become a ho-hum, nothing special place ......certainly not a place to take guests. read more

We are longtime fans of Skylark's! We have been coming here since 2012, and our most recent visit saw them make some tasteful changes in their decor. We arrived on Saturday at about 10 AM and were seated within five minutes. While they are not checking vaccine passports, they are enforcing masking within their restaurant and provide outdoor seating. We enjoyed our biscuits and gravy, the Eggs Benedict (with Hempler Ham) and a mimosa. The portion sizes were great-we were able to finish our plates without feeling too full. The gravy in particular is wonderful-it was very savory and onion-y. We loved our server and we had a wonderful time. Skylark's consistently has great service and a solid menu. read more

I don't know what happened to Skylarks. This was my second visit. On my first visit, the experience was great. The food was good, the staff was welcoming, the service very good. This visit? The food was inedible. I took one bite of my oyster po boy and spit it into my napkin. I don't know what was going on with those oysters, but whatever it was, it was not good. The staff was pretty much absent, and the service was meh. Our food took a long time to come out, which, on a weekend could be understandable, except I saw tables that had been seated after us receive their food well before we did. Plus, some of our items did not come out until we asked several times, and those came out right before the check did. With all the other options in Fairhaven I doubt I'll be back. read more

Had breakfast here recently, and it was disappointing on several levels. Service was minimal, and rushed. Take order, leave, bring food, leave, bring check. Food was mediocre at best, better than Nelson's Market, but not nearly as good as Old Town Cafe. Prices seemed high for this level of service and food. Also didn't appreciate the bus boy crashing into me and not saying anything. At the eating establishments that I frequent, the staff usually doesn't body check the customers. First time visit, stopped by on a cold lunchtime day for a bowl of clam chowder needing to warm up and kill some time whilst awaiting my wife's clothing/shoe shopping excursion in Fairhaven. It was fairly busy but I managed to get a seat on the bar, everone was nicely socially distant. Pretty fast service in ordering and receiving the chowder. It was mostly a cream potato soup with only a few clams but lots of potatoes, it did have a nice flavor helped with some pepper. Was dissappointed that it only came with 2 saltine cracker packages, a sourdough roll or bread would have been much better. I'll start with the good. The wait staff where ok. Not great but not bad. Ok the bad. My wife and I ordered the Poe boy, I ordered the French onion soup as well. and my kids ordered pancakes one with extra butter. The main courses came out without any mention of the soup. One stack of pancakes was burnt on the bottom and almost raw on the other side and no extra butter. The other stack of pancakes looked very un evenly cooked as well. As for the poe boys. First off they come on a hamburger bun with 3 egg shaped oysters. Not what I expect from a poe boy. My wife pushed down on hers and a scalding green liquid shot out and burnt her hand. I tried to be careful with mine but more liquid shot out. We tasted about the same time and I have to say this was the singularly worst bite I have ever had. I can't even explain how horrible this tasted. My wife thought the same so it wasn't just one bad sandwich but 2. When the waitress came out and we informed her she took them off the bill and asked if we wanted anything else. I foolishly reminded her of the soup. The soup arrived almost as my kids finished eating. So I tried to eat it. It was so bland that a bunch of salt and pepper couldn't save it. Brunch is rarely enjoyed in our household, so a big Thank You goes out to this cozy cafe for making it memorable! My husband has never had eggs Benedict before, and he almost died when he took a bite of the crab eggs Benedict here. He said it was probably the best thing he's eaten while we've been vacationing here in Fairhaven. My French toast was also delightful! Soooo moist, and so sweet. Both items are truly unique to this cafe. The staff were also extremely accommodating. The fall leaves are just too beautiful not to experience sitting outside. So when asked if we could sit outside next to the fire pit that hadn't been turned on yet, they made sure it happened. This really just made the experience one of a kind for me. read more

Ordered the carnitas breakfast and waited 40 minutes on a sleepy Friday morning for overcooked eggs,chalky black beans and potatoes that were so salty they were almost inedible. Soggy pork was the biggest bummer. Pleasant but un attentive service. My favorite place to go for brunch with the family. Definitely sit in their outside patio area. Super nice especially when its a lovely day. I find the inside dining area dark. Service has been consistently good. The food is a hit and miss. I order one day the steak bites and they were amazing. Order it again on another day and it was "okay" not the same as what I had the first time. Also inconsistency on their cinnamon roll or aka as my kid calls it the "cake." Pretty disappointed with the whole experience, and I was looking forward to dining here after a friend said it was good. I knew I wanted to try the clam Boston which has won award for several years. We got in and was told it would be a 20-30 minutes wait for a table. This was despite 2 empty tables which we could see, and nobody else was waiting. So I asked if we could have the chowder to go, and if that would take long. Another staff came over to check if we wanted the chowder to go. My friend wanted to dine in so we asked if we could sit at those empty tables, the staff said she could not answer that and to wait for the first staff to advise. The first staff came over again and reiterated it would be at least a 20 minutes wait. Later she said we could have a table downstairs if we didn't mind that. We were like ok. And it was not really downstairs, just down a few steps to the back room. That was probably the original restaurant space. It was filled with vintage pictures of people in the old days. Nice historical ambience. I decided to have the chowder with half sandwich combo since we had a table. It was cold sandwiches only so I had the Italian deluxe which was cold meats with cheese. That sandwich was average. The clam chowder was good as it has bacon. Unfortunately it was too salty. I doubt I would be back again. The service could be better though. read more

I was really excited to try their brunch. I was also pretty disappointed. When food was delivered to our table an hour after ordering the table next to us asked if I ordered a bagel with gravy. When I made my 2019 Restaurant Bucket List (follow my progress here: https://www.yelp.com/collection/e264TDcOv3DZRbMzxYYRxg) I not only wanted to check out lots of new places, but visit a few older ones too. And Skylark's was definitely near the top of the list! Located in cute, trendy Fairhaven, Skylark's has become a local institution. Fun fact: they actually did used to be hidden. Well, at least fairly well-hidden. They were much smaller then, and located in the back of a building off of a little courtyard. They were definitely hard to find! But eventually they expanded into the larger establishment that they're today. For today's breakfast visit my friend and I sat at the bar, sort of a tradition of ours. One of our local Yelpers had recently told me that Skylark's had removed the railing from their bar, and I was excited to check it out. The railing had impeded the ability to eat while sitting there, although it was sort of cool and retro looking. We were greeted quickly and given coffee and our usual load of sugar and creamer. Since it was the first day of Bellingham cocktail week, I decided to get myself a bloody mary, of course using Skylark's famous house infused garlic vodka as a base. I love that they can make Mary not too spicy, because some days I just can't do spice. I did notice they had a lovely looking bottle of jalapeno vodka on the counter, so if you like spicy it is definitely an option. My Bloody Mary was really tasty, I loved the salt and pepper around the rim. We ordered off of their awesome breakfast specials menu. For a little over $5 I got an egg, toast, hash browns, and two slices of tasty bacon. It was the perfect breakfast for a rainy Friday morning. My friend got the pancake version of the breakfast special, and her egg was a little bit overcooked but they quickly replaced it. No big deal. The service was very sweet and attentive, which is always appreciated when you're trying to get through breakfast and get on with your busy day. I heard that Skylark's recently changed ownership, and I'm excited to see what new things they are bringing to their menu. Luckily, I heard they aren't replacing many of their classics, which is a good thing. Can't wait to check them out again and see what's new. Meanwhile, I'm glad I went back. read more

Vintage diner in the Fairhaven area of Bellingham. Parking is available in the lot close to the building. The place has a vintage look. Plenty of old portraits of (probably dead) people on the walls. The service here is questionable. They told my friend and I there were no tables available, even though there were 2 unoccupied tables in front of us. Then they told us to wait 15 minutes? Finally someone told us there was a table in the back. Why didn't they just stick us back there immediately? That area wasn't full either. Once we were seated, the rest of the experience was decent. The award winning clam chowder was too salty. Looks like there are bacon bits inside. In any case, it was nothing special. The curry hicken sandwich was toasted and tasted like regular deli food. Maybe other people will have a better overall experience, but there are dozens of other places I could be trying in this area. read more

They seemed to be a little under staffed as we waited for everything, the Bartender ( we sat at bar top) was very friendly and definitely overworked but didn't show it to us at all .we we're going to ask about dessert menu, but decided it would probably take too long and just got check and left . Friendly greeting at the door, sat promptly, waited an excessive amount of time for our food to arrive. Food arrives. Missing key condiments. The fish chips, not fresh. Cod wrap all coleslaw. Stopped in after a day on the scenic highway. A wonderful outdoor patio with umbrellas to shade from the sun. We didn't have anything to eat in mind, so the selection of food was perfect. They serve breakfast/brunch and lunch until 3pm which is nice. All of the food was great, the Benedict was solid nothing crazy. The salad was pretty big with a healthy serving of seafood, however, felt that it could have been a little more creative for the price. It was also served with thousand island dressing which does the fresh ingredients a disservice. The club sandwich is probably the best I've ever had (I lived in NYC for 6 years). It is HUGE, but the ingredients were well balanced (meat to cheese to bread to veggie ratio). Great spot, good selection and quality was solid! read more

Best fish & chips I have ever had. I love the beer batter in the halibut. They also have cod, with panko batter. But I prefer the halibut. Skylarks has long been a favorite of ours for a nice meal in a charming setting, so I made reservations for my wife and me for our anniversary dinner. The food was decent and the service was excellent---a young and energetic wait staff. What spoiled the evening was the awful pop music that was blaring the whole time we were there. We were initially seated at a two-top inches from the bar. The staff pleasantly accommodated my request to reseat us down the stairs in back to what I expected to be a quieter area, but the music was just as intrusive. I like to enjoy the meal, the company, and the conversation when we dine out, and that was all spoiled by the background music. To be fair, we are in our 70's, so perhaps Skylarks has simply decided to target a younger clientele that may prefer this loud, high energy atmosphere, but this won't be a dining choice for us in the future. read more

On the plus side, they have live music on Saturday nights. It was nice to sit at the bar and listen to the singer while waiting for our table. The food was okay but not great. I've been to Skylarks many times over the years and the most positive thing I can say is that it is consistent. You always know what you are getting in terms of service, atmosphere, and food. Not out of this world, but consistently good. Skylarks now has a patio/beer & wine garden in the back, which is new to me, although my family and I sat inside as the wait was shorter. Here's the run-down, food-wise, on my most recent visit a few days ago: ** Brussel Sprouts - Meh. Lukewarm upon arrival and needed something else besides balsamic on them--e.g. bacon, cheese, nuts, something extra for flavor depth and/or textural interest ** Fried Oysters - Excellent! 7-8 HUGE local oysters, fried to the perfect crisp with yummy sauces (tarter & a slightly spicy alioi) ** Dinner Salad - Standard salad but ingredients were fresh and the creamy balsamic dressing was tasty. ** Ancient Grain Bowl - Good, not great. I chose to add prawns to my order ($5 extra) and was glad I did. On its own, it's a very light meal and surprisingly skimpy on the portion of grains given the name. I also think it should offer your choice of dressing with it instead of just having oil&vinegar on the side. I ended up using the leftover balsamic dressing from my mom's salad instead to up the flavor factor. ** Reuben - did not try this one except for the fries, which were good ** Lemon Curd Cheesecake - Yum! Presentation could use improvement although I did love the extensive amount of whipped cream on top so... This is very rich, as cheesecakes generally are, and works well to share. I had the halibut fish and it was amazing. The batter had a perfect crunch and it was not soggy. The house salad had a mix of greens, cherry tomatoes and thin sliced carrots. The fish tasted fresh. It was an excellent meal. Also had the Crab Cakes. They were tasty. We brought home a burger and fries. The burger was just slightly over cooked. We asked for medium but it was still a good burger. Their fries are crisp and have a crunch. We sat at the outdoor canopy patio. They have gas heaters out there. We eat at Skylarks at least once a month. read more
