Writing during the worst pandemic in a century, I am happy to be excited about a new(ish) restaurant in the Indy food scene - even if it's a chain. Being one who doesn't often patronize seafood-centric eateries, Slapfish had not been on my radar. However, due to their wonderful hospitality to the Yelp Elite Squad this month, I can add them to my list of Downtown favorites. While I hope this review finds you in the post-pandemic world, I was delighted at Slapfish's commitment to following CDC guidelines during this unprecedented time. As one who is not doing any indoor dining, I would not have considered dining at the restaurant if they were not offering curbside service. Slapfish also offers dine-in service, regular takeout, and delivery. Prior to placing my order, my mouth was watering at the mere perusal of the menu. For transparency purposes, I was offered a free entree due to the Yelp Elite event (and not in exchange for a positive review). However, because there were so many tempting options, I ordered additional items at my own expense. I'm sure glad I did, as I surely would have missed some very tasty eats. I started with a cup of Slapfish's clam chowder. I'm typically ambivalent about clam chowder, but not the variety offered at this restaurant. Topped with bacon, chives, and oyster crackers, it's marvelous. Next, my partner and I nibbled on the fried pickle chips with Slapfish's "Awesome Sauce." Awesome indeed. For my main course, I chose none but the best: the Surf N Turf Burger. It's a $17 burger, and it's worth every last penny. It's a huge sandwich with a large hunk of juicy beef and topped with fresh lobster, cheese, and cartelized onions. It's certainly the best burger I've had in recent memory. My partner ordered the Epic Shrimp Burrito. Clearly, I stole some. Given its size, she didn't mind. Needless to say, both of us likely gained weight after that meal. I was sad not have been able to enter the restaurant, as it's a lovely space. Slapfish is a fast-casual restaurant - meaning the customer orders at the counter and a server subsequently delivers the food. This is the only "fast-casual" aspect of the restaurant. The (very) high quality of the food easily justifies its price. Slapfish, you're a five-star award winner. Bravo! read more

Hey! Be careful when you call bc guess what there's two locations (Carmel and downtown) and the internet wasn't clear about that. I placed my togo order for the Carmel location but I showed up at the downtown location No worries tho! The staff was super friendly and helpful and kind. First visit to this location, second visit to Slapfish and it was just as good as my first time. This location is easy to find since the Kurt Vonnegut mural is on its exterior. Murals inside didn't disappoint either. On this visit, I placed a carry out order due to Covid. It was done quickly and my wait was minimal. I got the Lobster Taquitos again and my mom tried the Surf N Turf burger. She also tried the (fried) Housemade Pickles. She really liked both. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Best seafood in Indy. Not only is it fresh, but it's seasoned well and flavors that keep you wanting more in the best way. The lobster tots (yes, you read that correctly) were a nice starter to the meal, paired with a delicious dipping sauce. Holy lobster heaven! Slapfish has been on my list to check out since they opened their Mass Ave location. They had a menu for Devour Indy when we went in so we opted for that. For $15 you can get an appetizer and entree with a side. The lobster roll had an $8 up charge but it was 100% worth it. It was packed with lobster meat! Tender and delicious. However, the clam chowder was the star of the show for me. The bowl portion is HUGE. It was creamy and had big chunks of clam. My husband also loved it. I was able to get a free lobster taquito thanks to Yelp and that was also delicious. Everything I had was flavorful and the quality of the food was excellent. My husband had the clobster grilled cheese and I was able to snag a bite. It was loaded with crab and lobster and the sauce was delicious. Slapfish isn't a place I would normally go to be honest. I'm more of an overpriced salad bowl type of girl but I was in the area and decided to give this place a shot. Immediately the environment was trendy yet calm and not over crowded which I appreciate. We were seated right away and I got a high chair for my daughter with no problems. We made a visit to Slapfish this weekend we were impressed about how they social distanced . For dine in they only allowed every other table which was great. We love seafood and slapfish has an amazing selection. I had the crab grilled cheese that was simply amazing it was a gigantic portion with a good helping of fries. We went here to try them out again (went first time during a private event) and ordered off their devour menu. We got lobster dip, lobster taquitos, and clobster grilled cheese.... basically we had a lobster party!! I wasn't expecting the lobster dip to be cold, but it was sooo good! The taquitos come with guacamole, they were super warm and fresh. And the grilled cheese... let's just say idk if I can ever eat a basic grilled cheese again. This was MOUTHWATERING and is 100% my favorite sandwich in Indianapolis now. Also I dont know what their orange sauce is, but it goes SO well with the sandwich. The service here is kind of like Culvers... you order at a window, then take a seat with a number. Then they bring out your food. They also have booze here too, and their drinks are delicious! We did have to ask for the Devour Indy menu as it was not offered to us. I must say it was a great deal!!! Omg, the lobster roll! I went here for a Yelp event and was able to sample the lobster roll with a side of chowder fries. I brought a friend (a non-Yelper) and he got the surf and turf burger with some chowder fries. Both were delicious! The lobster roll looked kind of small when I first opened up my to go box, but it was stuffed full with creamy, buttery lobster goodness that I ended up being unable to finish the whole thing in one sitting, especially since I got those chowder fries. The chowder was packed separately to keep my fries from getting soggy on my way home. There was plenty of chowder to smother the fries, but I ended up dipping my fries and then eating the chowder separately. I got a little food envy when I saw my friend's burger. The lobster roll was delicious, but that burger looked amazing. The lobster and beef went nicely together, and the creamy sauce was slightly spicy. Be prepared to make a mess when you eat it because that creamy lobster wants to push that burger right out of the bun. Don't let it escape! I liked that they had signs for Covid up and that they had the chairs and tables marked with tape to enforce social distancing. There was outside tent seating available. I didn't sit out there because it was cold and very windy that day, but I like that the seating was available. No, it is not a new type of fish, and they do not slap the fish around in here. The name comes from the logo they use of a hand in slap mode which looks like a fish! I took a picture of a slap fish while I was here. Evidently this is one of about 40 Slapfish restaurants around the country, but this is one of the only to have a full bar. It's nice to have so many drink options. And speaking of options, the food menu was full of them. I had a hard time deciding, but finally went with the shrimp burrito. It was very good, and it was very messy. I don't mind licking juices off my fingers when the sauce tastes like this. It looked almost too big to eat, especially sitting next to a cup of savory clam chowder soup. It seemed like an hour or so, but really I polished this burrito off in under 15 minutes. You just don't want to sit it down once you start eating it because it's so good and messy. My friend got a tuna bowl and loved it! He thought it was a bit expensive for what he got, but he was still eating after I finished off the burrito. So, either I am a fast eater or he was a slow eater, either way we both ate a hardy meal with a couple of hardy stout beers and a shot of whiskey each! Initially enjoyed ordering Uber Eats from this vendor over the past 6 months. Their BOGO Offer caused me to initiate and order at what I consider a slightly above average seafood experience for Indy. No longer a fan of SlapFish. Uber Eats BOGO offer was NOT APPLIED to my $20+ Order on March 17, 2023. Moments after placing my order, I checked my final billing in the App...only to see the Discount was NOT Applied. I immediately Cancelled my order. Followed Uber's exact steps: "Access your order status screen, then tap "Cancel Order." | A pop up appears confirming you'd like to cancel and alerts you to any potential charges. | Tap "Cancel Order." | Select why you chose to cancel, then tap "Done."" Imagine my surprise to find they hit my AMEX even after a near immediate cancelled transaction...so they lost my business. :( NO FOOD Received, but a bill for $26.16 - - for an average 1 person order. Slapfish is a great seafood addition to downtown Indy. Of course the location is great on Mass Ave, and there's a parking lot next door, which helps on busy nights- especially with limited street parking. The interior is beautiful, love the wood accents. Slapfish has a full bar and a nice cocktail menu. The menu is the perfect size (in my opinion), just enough options but it's not overwhelmingly. They've selected meals they can do well and are focusing on those. I had the traditional lobster roll and it was amazing. So much lobster! No complaints on the serving size or the flavor. It was very filling and delicious. I also tried the seasoned French fries, and also no complaints. Finally, I got the house made pickles (not fried). It was a large serving (8 pickles I think) and they were delicious. As far as COVID goes- everyone had on masks, they have some tables marked so you can't use them and can be distanced. They have a QR code to scan for the drink menu. They also have some outdoor seating and a tent (for however long they'll be able to have it set up). There are multiple hand sanitizer stations. The bathroom has automatic soap dispensers, faucets & hand dryers. They also have the foot thing on the door so you don't have to touch the handle (although you do have to touch the lock first :). Overall, I'm impressed with everything at Slapfish. The food was incredible, the setting is beautiful, service was quick and friendly and they have great health and safety standards. When I came home with dinner from Slapfish, both teens walked into the kitchen, sat down, and asked us "are we celebrating something?" We happily shared with them that for a pretty reasonable price, Slapfish allowed our family to enjoy fresh lobster and shrimp for dinner on a random Wednesday in the middle of winter in land-locked Indiana. There was much rejoicing! Dinner that night was pretty quiet, because everyone was chowing down pretty hard. On our kitchen table we had a lobster grinder and fries, an epic shrimp burrito and fries, and an order of shrimp ceviche and fried pickles. Let's start with the lobster grinder. OMG, it looked amazing. Absolutely stuffed with large chunks of fresh lobster! Nothing minced in this sandwich. Our son said the flavor was creamy and and had just a bit of spicy in the aoli. He was stuffed from the sandwich, and barely touched his fries. Next up, the epic shrimp burrito. Again, huge portion. Husband finished the burrito and also barely touched his fries. He kept holding the open side of his burrito out to us so we could see how full it was of shrimp. He really enjoyed the awesomesauce that came with it and probably could have used about four little to-go containers of it, because he emptied it out pretty quickly. Next up, the shrimp ceviche and side of fried pickles. At first, when our daughter opened up her ceviche, she was a bit confused, because every time she's ordered it any restaurant, it's always been white-ish. Slapfish's shrimp ceviche is red! She thought it was salsa. However, she tried a bite on the seasoned chips it comes with, and a smile spread over her face. She said her fried pickles were tasty as well, but the awesomesauce was too spicy for her, so she offered it up to her father. We were all intrigued by the clobster grilled cheese that Slapfish has on their menu. But we all knew it wouldn't travel very well during the 25 minute drive back home in the middle of winter. Slapfish really SLAPS!.... *budum tssss* But for real - if you have not been to Slapfish then you MUST GO! Everything about this place is amazing - the staff, the ambiance and of course the food! I went with my brother and his wife (Molly, a fellow Yelp Elite) and they both loved their entire experience as well! They had a Devour Indy menu so I got that, what a great deal especially for a first-timer to be able to get a starter and an entree for $15! I got the Lobster Dip with House Chips for my starter and this was a great choice! There were chunks of lobster in every single bite and the house-made chips were amazing and warm when they came out. I also got an order of the Lobster Taquitos for free thanks to Yelp! These were great and warm and the sauce that came on it was very tasty! The third and final thing I got was the Traditional Lobster Roll and WOW. This was my first-ever lobster roll and it was phenomenal - the lobster was soft and full of flavor and the seared roll added a much-needed crunch to create the perfect balance of flavor. The side I got was their simple salad and it was good - but I would have preferred the fries. The inside was awesome and wonderfully decorated - I loved their exposed brick wall behind the bar. Didn't quite see this when he ordered but it has rice and fries in it. Tastes really good but also makes for a very filling meal. I got the power bowl - then you can pick the fish! I chose the swordfish. Super fresh (both the veggies and the fish). The rice had a great seasoning on it. Dressing on the side, but honestly you didn't really need it. Lots of rice in the bowl- so very filling as well. The bar had a great selection of beer and drinks. I got a beer and nick got the spicy marg. I'd like to say that I have been to the Slapfish in Noblesville twice before, once at a Yelp event. The owners of that Slapfish have expanded to Mass Ave. Apparently, Slapfish is a California franchise that offers something different than the standard fish and chips that many local seafood places offer. At Slapfish, you get a bit of the So Cal flavors as well as some healthier options than just fried food. If you check out their menu, you will see a street taco with options of grilled or breaded fish. The lobster taquitos (two per order) have a little bit of kick (heat) in the sauce that is drizzled over the crispy pastry filled with lobster. My wife went with the Hawaiian bowl that is a large serving of food, so don't let the price tag scare you off. She had enough to finish off at dinner later that evening! Since we went during the pandemic, most of Mass Avenue is closed to through traffic so that tables can be set up for outdoor eating. Here's a tip....If you are downtown, head north on Delaware to Vermont and look for street parking (most are metered.) Turn right (east) on Vermont and we found that Mass Ave was open from that side of the block and we were able to grab a parking space just a few steps from the Vonnegut Mural (another check-in opportunity). On the Saturday we went, there weren't a lot of patrons, so we had our choice of dining inside or outside. You still go inside to order and once you've paid, they give you a number stand to place on your table. Also note that softdrinks are self serve to the right of the order counter as are paper napkins. The bar was open, but no seating was allowed at the bar (Xs are across those seats). Ordering was quick and easy and before long, our food was brought out to us. I thought my orders were delicious and considering they were two of the lower priced items on the menu, I was especially pleased. My wife liked the Hawaiian bowl, but the kitchen did not make the change order my wife requested (we heard the cashier ask the kitchen if they could use just iceberg lettuce instead of a mix of greens and the cashier confirmed the change was easy.) So, my wife's initial impression was disappointed, but the flavors won her over. When it comes to raw veggies, she likes large slices, but not thickly cut. Just a bit of crunch, but not so small that she has to chase them around the bowl with her fork. She said all the veggies were fresh and crisp. The shrimp were grilled properly and were tasty too. The pineapple chunks were also grilled which she really liked too. So, overall, we had a good meal at this newly opened restaurant. HUGE portions of lobster and crab overflowing from a golden brown buttered roll! The aioli had a slight spiciness and the lemon wedge to squeeze fresh lemon juice on the sandwich made it very tasty! If you're looking for fast-causal resto that serves seafood, then Slapfish on Mass Ave is a great place to go. You can order your food for there or to-go (For référence, I had mine to-go.) I ordered the Fish & Chips. You receive two good size pieces of fish, and the batter is nice and crisp (you don't have more batter than fish). The fries are seasoned and you receive a good amount. The tartar sauce was too runny for my preference, but it had a good flavor. I would definitely order this meal again ! I received my food fairly quickly and it was still warm by the time I walked to my car and drove home (about 15 minutes). I will definitely be back to try other items on their menu- especially the lobster roll. Staff was friendly and the place seemed clean. Dang I love this place !! Where to begin?! My daughter is 4 and loves it here too! I've literally not tasted anything I don't like. My faves are the power bowl and clobster cake. Even though they are seafood based , they do have a $6 cheeseburger that my daughter loves ( and I don't mind the leftovers ). Love this location as it's close to home for us and we can stop by after we hit up Needlers. The Raw bar is attached next door which also had the best appletinis a girl could ask for ! They share mostly the same menu but is more "upscale". Would be perfect for a date night or night out with the girls ! I would legit work here part time for the discounts if I could find the time I'm telling you, if you haven't yet, give it a shot ! read more

Tried this spot on Mass Ave. for lunch and I was so impressed. They have indoor and outdoor seating that allows guests to feel comfortable and safe while dining. The restaurant is beautiful! I have visited the location before when it was Lou Vino, Slap Fish did a complete remodel and it is stunning. The food is phenomenal! They serve you more seafood than bread and I appreciate it! Slapfish is an approachable and delicious seafood spot serving up both classic & creative entrees with lobster as the main event. We recently ordered carry out and were so impressed with how well the food traveled (we are about 5-10 minutes away). The indoor dining space was so cute & well decorated. I am excited to dine in after COVID as Slapfish has a full bar & lots of tables. The food was delicious! Admittedly, this was my first lobster roll. The roll, the lobster & the sauce were all excellent and blended together nicely. Each bite offered flavors of all three components. The fries were crisp with tasty seasoning. We also orderer a surf & turf burger, which was huge! The awesome sauce offered a smokey aftertaste with a little kick. Lastly, the shrimp lettuce wraps were also great! I was surprised at the serving size as this is a side item (+$2 up charges). Over all, Slapfish is a great spot we can't wait to return to. First time visiting Slapfish and It did NOT disappoint! From the welcoming staff, to the upbeat atmosphere, to the flavorful food, I will definitely back. I ordered a Huckleberry Margarita and the size and flavor was amazing for $6. The entree I got was the Clobster Grilled Cheese with a side of Cole slaw. I have never had Lobster before and It was so delicious. The portions were great for the price as well. My friend ordered the burrito and stated It was great too. Slapfish has convenient parking in front that you pay by hour. All employees had a mask on and socially distancing was displayed. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a great meal out! read more
