We looked at the menu, and my wife wanted to cook your own pancakes at your table. You order the type of pancake batter you like (buttermilk, chocolate, etc), and fixin's (chocolate chips, whipped cream, etc). The batter comes out in a squeeze bottle, and you cook your pancakes on a griddle built into your table. I tried one of the pancakes, and it was delicious. The best thing about Slappy Cakes is being able to score one of the tableside griddles to make your own (definitely recommend making a reservation or coming in early to do so!) What a cute experience for our family! Our kids (7 and 4) loved being able to make their own pancakes. I think our son preferred making them versus eating them, haha. We did a bottle of the buttermilk batter with whipped cream and chocolate chips for fixings. The fixings were $3 each and were large sizes - it didn't even look like we used them at all. We also had an order of the cinnamon roll pancakes. Those were really great! Overall, we loved the experience for our kids. If we came back without kids, we would have probably sat at a regular table versus a griddle table. The service was okay - they were busy but we didn't need anything once our food was delivered. They have shorter hours (7am-12pm). We got there around 9:30am and the wait was 30-35 minutes. We waited around 25, but there's a lot of seating outside to wait. Not much French toast about it. Grand Slap- scrambled eggs were overcooked (brown), bacon was decent. No butter put on the toast or the pancakes. Had to ask and they brought cold butter slabs in the foil wrapping. Also no jelly. They brought a small ramekin of soupy jelly. Meh. Potatoes were dry and pancakes are definitely below iHop in taste. Cinnamon roll cakes- nothing more than some cinnamon in the pancake batter and a dollop of super sweet cream cheese frosting on top. Drinks- Orange juice and apple juice (okay from a carton) and coffee which was not as good as the coffee made in my condo. We gave Slappy Cakes a try based on the good reviews. It was just okay. My teens liked it more than the grown-ups did. There is a griddle at each table and you have the option of making your own pancakes at your table. You can also have the kitchen prepare your pancakes for you. My husband and daughter order the seasonal batter which was a lemon poppy seed with some toppings. My daughter ordered a coconut syrup and husband had the lemon curd. They each got an 8 ounce squeeze bottle of batter and prepared their cakes at the table. My son and I ordered from the menu. I had the Hawaiian pancakes and my son had the cinnamon roll pancakes. These days, there is no wait and parking is easy. That's not a good sign. The quality of the food is just OK. The service is still good and the breakfast cocktails are good too. My son loved making his own pancakes. *As an adult who does a lot of cooking and baking at home, I don't particularly want to do it in my leisure time either. :) That's why they have a normal non-DiY menu, as well. *Everything, including the Pancake mix, is all made in-house. *Make sure to ask for their housemade jam to go with your toast, or even on your pancakes! *I know this place is about the DiY and pancakes, but seriously, that Candied Bacon dish was done and dusted--out of this world good! Perfectly crisp, sweet, and a lovely crunch from both the bacon and concomitant macadamia nuts. Serving was huge so you could probably split a single order of cakes. Companion had eggs with spinach and cheese with potatos and a side of bacon. I can vouch the bacon was perfectly done and flavorful. She said the potatos had great seasoning and all in all would definately order it again.
