Insect in meal. Dishonest. Did not want to refund. Mistakes happens, I know. I hate to leave a negative review for businesses right now, but my visit was beyond disappointing. *All this took place in the restaurant* We did not try any of their food because the moment we opened the lid to one of the noodle soup... a huge insect was floating on top. We didn't even finish unpacking the rest of our meal and immediately sent it back to the cashier. We pointed out the insect and asked for a refund. The cashier looked at the meal to confirm and went to inform another staff about the situation. Everything would've been fine if they just refunded us, but nope. The staff did not want to refund us. Told us the "insect" was a pepper, but the cashier looked at it to confirm before taking it away. If it was a pepper then why didn't she say so instead of taking it? Then the staff proceeded to say that there could be insects when you cook at home too. Honestly, I've never found any insect in any of my home cooked meals. It's not normal and shouldn't be. We had to raise our voices before they finally refunded us, but wait... They refunded us the wrong order and did not receive the full amount until we pointed it out. Wow, long story short the waitress treated us like trash. The waitress told us we only have 1 minute to order and she didn't let us view the menu rushed us to order the food. It was our first time going to China town and it was the last time for sure then she served our bowls of noodles and did not care to come back to check on us or offered us drinks we are 4 minutes into eating and she comes and throws the check at our table, at that point we decided we will not tip her, then she gives us a death stare demanding a tip and was being so rude about it, she had zero manners. she comes back around and you could tell she cursed us out in her language. Don't bother to come in unless you're ready for the worst treatment. In reality these people have no respect towards other people. We came in, in the most positive and best intentions. I still can't believe it, I'm still shocked. We have never been treated like that anywhere else. You would think they treat people better knowing they make money out of us. One of my favorite places that I ate on my trip to Chicago! We ordered a pork short rib, homemade noodles and steamed buns to share and it was the perfect size for two! The meat was so tender that it took little effort for it to fall off the bone! The broth was delicious! If you don't like the taste of fennel I don't think you'll like the broth. I came here due to its feature in the Trib's Chinatown guide and it did not disappoint! The texture of the noodles is delicious. The broth is lightly spiced with strong tastes of clove. I got the beef spare rib, which was tasty and flavorful and came as three pieces, and the shaved noodle, which was also good. I added a marinated egg, which was not soft boiled, so that was a bit disappointing. A couple of my friends got the chicken, which is a very strange texture. Be prepared for it to not be what you typically expect. My friends enjoyed it. Another friend got the stir fried hand noodles, and the general consensus was these are great! Awesome smoky flavor. She also liked the shrimp in it. Finally make sure to get the small steamed buns! They're super good and come out almost instantaneously. Definitely pay this a visit! The noodles were fantastic! We went on a Sunday right when they opened. I ordered chow hand pulled noodles with pork belly...Wow it was so delicious. When we first arrived this wasn't a problem because we were some of the few in the restaurant but when more people showed up it was hard to get assistance. We saw a couple restaurants, but this spot attracted our attention. The place its not big but not tiny either. I loved the decoration on the walls. The service was great. As soon as we walked in the waitress offered us a table and something to drink. She left the menus and took a couple minutes to come ask if we were ready. The menu does not contain a lot of variety. I ordered the house special hand pulled noodles. I added shrimp spicy broth which were extra. My noodles came in a huge bowl. They also gave me a pair of scissors which I was a little embarrassed to ask what they were for, I eventually figured out that they are in fact to cut the noodles. The broth was delicious, the noodles themselves were also pretty tasty but in my opinion not to die for. My girlfriend had the pork belly fried noodles. She said she really like them. We also ordered the buns. They came in a basket of 6, bigger than I expected. They had some kind of meat inside which I missed what it was. The buns were okay. If you're looking for fast and cheap, this isn't a bad place to stop by. However, if you're known as a noodle shop, your noodles better be good... The hand-pulled noodles themselves are amazing, and you get A LOT of them in a bowl. The broth is pretty good too (there was an herbal flavor in there that I didn't expect, but overall good). However, I ordered the house special with beef stomach, brisket, and shank, and all three kinds of meat were really rubbery and tasteless. I also only had two little bok choy leaves, so don't expect many vegetables. I did really like the hot oil and the pickled cabbage they have at the table! And again, the service is QUICK-- I ordered and had my noodles in about five minutes. Overall a decent place to warm up this winter, but you can find better soup noodles elsewhere. read more

I heard positive things about Slurp Slurp from a friend so I decided to try this place out for dinner. For starters, my friends and I ordered the Cucumber Salad and the Mala Pig Ear. I am a huge fan of pig ear, but I was disappointed with the ones served at Slurp Slurp. The sauce lacked the spicy dimension I was craving. I was pleasantly surprised by the Cucumber Salad, however. It had a nice balance of sweet and sour to it. For my main dish, I ordered the Slurp Slurp Big Bowl with shaved noodles. When my order came out, I was amazed by how massive it was. It felt that no matter how long you were working on your noodles, the bowl was bottomless. I will say that I liked the texture of the noodles--they were nice and chewy. The soup was pretty mediocre in my opinion. The soup was missing a "hearty" taste. While Slurp Slurp was pretty average, I will say that the service was extremely fast. Not even 10 minutes had passed from the time we placed the order to when the bowls came out onto our table. The huge portions are also a plus if you are extremely hungry. Unfortunately, there are other places in Chinatown that I would go to over Slurp Slurp for more flavorful soups so I probably won't be back here. read more

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised here! I went in with expectatuons of paying $15 for spruced up ramen or pho, but that's not what I got. The service was very fast, the environment clean and mostly quiet, despite their music. Not a huge crowd. I got the slurp slurp big bowl, which has spare rib, shank, tripe and brisket and honest-to-God hand-pulled noodles they pull right where you can see it (if you look through the wide kitchen window). This seemed to be their signature dish since it was the most prominent picture on their seemingly simple and limited menu. It WAS $15 after tax but the bowl was huge so the portion is definitely worth it. I would say it is larger than a Large at the Noodle and way bigger than pho you would get on Argyle. But it's NOT pho. I can only explain that it seems much heartier than pho but brothier than ramen with much thicker noodles. Hearty is not a word I would normally use for an Asian broth soup, but it is the word that kept coming to mind as I ate. The noodles were dense and substantial, a little bit salty but not too salty and not bad. I really enjoyed the doughy, springy texture. The broth was liquidy with a subltle yet solid flavor, much more distinguished than the subtlety of a pho broth. Not quite over powering, yet far from bland, but you really have to take your time to search for the complexity of the flavor. The meat was incredibly hearty and hunky. So much so that I wasn't quite sure how to tackle the giant spare rib sinking in my bowl with nary a fork nor knife in sight. I manhandled this huge chunk, which was a bit tough but tasty. I still have some pieces between my teeth! Not unpleasant but a little off putting. Again, the meat was tasty, a deep, earthy flavor I couldn't quite place. Speaking of earthy, they have a sesame chili sauce on the side that is deep and not quite smoky, but added another flavor I could not quite pin with words. I ladled it rather generously in my bowl. There was also a briney, fragrant cabbage concoction available on the table. It didn't strike me as kimchi but I am not quite sure. It added an enjoyable tang and texture to my bowl. If I were to return, I would probably share this bowl with someone else, and also try their bao on the side. I had a ton of broth and bits of noodle left, I could easily have shared (instead of gorging on noodles myself!) Next time I would like to try their fried noodles, which seemed a little less expensive and probably a bit smaller in portion. I wasn't blown away by this place, nor was I repulsed. If you are a noodle person like I am, then this is definitely a spot to add to your radar. Sadly, this place have been around and I do not know why I only tried it once last week. We decided to do carryout since and I ordered the Beef Brisket Noodle Soup and my wife went with the Shrimp Fried Noodle. We got the shaved noodles for both the soup and the fried noodles. The Beef Brisket Noodle Soup with the chili sauce is a game changer and brings it to the next level. The Shrimp Fried Noodle was also very good with the shaved wide noodles! Incredibly quick service! I came here with a friend for lunch today on a recommendation, and definitely don't regret trying Slurp Slurp! We were seated as soon as we entered, and quickly opted to share one order of the dry noodles (with the soy-based sauce and pork), and the beef brisket noodle soup, both with hand-drawn noodles. We were looking at the beautifully intricate zodiac paper placemats that were placed in front of us, when all the sudden, BAM-- our food was already here. I was definitely shocked at how quick the service was. We must have waited between 3-5 minutes before our food was served to us. The dry noodles were delicious-- although the sauce by itself was a bit too salty for my liking. The brisket noodle soup had a delicious, flavorful broth, but the actual brisket was a little too fatty/tendinous for my liking. The real standout, however, came with the noodles. You can definitely tell the difference in these noodles, as they are much chewier than the vast majority of noodles you will eat. Delicious!!! Overall, the food was good but the actual noodles were the highlight of the meal. We were in and out super quickly. Service was fast and reliable. When we entered, there were plenty of seats, but the restaurant filled up quickly during our time there, and there were people waiting by the door to be seated by the time we left (always a good sign!). Best hand pulled northern Chinese lamian I've had in the United States. Ignore all the haters and their reviews. Go to this place if you enjoys authentic Chinese hand pulled noodles; you won't be disappointed. Seeing as this is a Chinese restaurant, expect a raucous atmosphere.
