I love this place, I don't go often. But when I do I get the same thing. The Tan Tan Men, extra noodles, volcano paste, and a molten egg. It's spicy, it's hot, it's flavorful, it's delicious, and I always wish I had more. I'm a big dude, with a bit appetite and this is amazing. Service was quick and fast. We arrived 45 minutes before closing, but they were still able to seat us. There was still many other customers inside and we wanted something fast and quick. Reviews said it took awhile for food, but we were able to receive our food within 7 minutes from ordering. It was a cute place that had a wide range of inside and outside seating with fun music vibes. I ordered the DFFC Miso Ramen and it was very flavorful. I was shocked by how good the broth was! I have low spice tolerance, but this spice was just the perfect amount of kick where I wanted to continue drinking the broth. The only feedback would be that the broth wasn't completely warm and I had to mix more of my noodles in to make sure the rest of the broth was warm. The duck was also perfectly cooked and it was quite flavorful with the broth. The perfect bite had part of the egg, ramen, kimchi, and a little bit of duck with broth. The price is a little high and I would order this again if it was $15. Suggestion would be to add some nori to give a different texture and add a different color. The Spicy Salmon Donburi Poke Bowl was a disappointment. The rice wasn't cooked properly, the marinade on the salmon was not spicy or did it have much flavor, and it had an overwhelmingly big amount of daikon (believe that's what the white plastic stuff was...tasted like dry pho noodles). I had a bit of a unique dining experience at Slurping Turtle. For one, I came to eat alone. You don't often see a 22-year old girl eat alone on a weekend at a sit-down restaurant. But I was craving ramen and Slurping Turtle is currently holding off on takeout. I was super hungry, so I ordered the vegetarian red curry ramen with poached egg and corn as add-ons, a mushroom eggplant bao, and a tuna nigiri. All for me hehe. Let's talk food first. Red curry ramen: Chili oil was a little overpowering for me and the noodles aren't anything special, but what set this dish apart is the fillings. Eggplants. Mushrooms. Carrots. Garlic Crisps. Stellar in this regard. Unlike most other ramen places, they take into account what vegetarians would ~actually enjoy~ eating. Bok choy and bean sprouts do not a vegetarian ramen make. Would recommend adding corn and egg to undercut the chili oil a bit (4.5/5) Mushroom eggplant bao: Love these two veggies as a combo. Could have gone for more of the pickley sauce while the tempura coat was a bit thick considering the carb-on-carb with the bao bun. (4/5) Tuna nigiri: The real reason I rated a 4 rather than a 5. Just tasted fishy, and disappointed me for a single $4 piece of nigiri (3/5) Ok now storytime: As a former server, I know how mildly annoying it can be to serve a party of 1, and I'm sure I didn't help matters by being on Facetime for 75% of the time I was seated. Nonetheless, my server was sweet and attentive, and she even flagged that the molten egg that I had originally requested wasn't vegetarian without me bringing up my dietary restrictions first. I saw her being equally patient with the table next to me who came in asking for menu options that were vegan and had no soy sauce. Which is kind of a lot to ask... at an Asian restaurant. As someone who was vegan for over a year, I know that it's kind of on a vegan customer to do their homework before sitting down somewhere. The party eventually got up and left without notifying anyone, and the server responded with grace. Intri: My last review was pretty old, but I came again, because honestly when it comes to noodles in Ann Arbor, this is one of my favorite. Food: This time, I tried for the classic Tokyo shoyu ramen. To start, I noticed that the ramen noodles are a bit different - a bit more chewy than traditional ramen noodles. Not a big problem for me personally, but a heads up. One problem I did have is that the flavor was very simple, monotone, and bland. After a few initial bites, the flavor got old very quickly. I wish there was some richness in the broth, or some plays with the toppings to add some other dimensions to the dish. Next time, I will probably stick with my go-to spicy ramen from this place. Tl;dr: Went again, tried something new. Pretty bland and monotone for me. But don't discount this as a bad place. My rating for this dish: 5/10 read more

For the ramen, I ordered the infamous DFFC (duckfat friend chicken). I wasn't sure about the spice level, and my server suggested I have it on the side - WHOA that was a good choice! I love spicy Indian and Thai food, but I don't think I could've handled the full portion of the hot oil/sauce - if that indeed is what the regular version has. I put in about half and it was PERFECT. OMG the chicken was incredible, and that broth....that dreamy, soothing broth...I couldn't finish all the meat but holy crap I drained that bowl dry of the broth. Absolutely delicious. My partner and I initially came in here wanting to dine in. However, it was a 15-20 minute wait for a table, so we decided to pass on it. I can tell it's a great place because there were several parties willing to wait for a table, and I can also appreciate them trying to social distance but also get as many people in as possible. I knew I wanted their food from the get go, and I'm so happy I did because their sushi is so fresh and delicious. I tried their spicy tuna, spicy California and spicy salmon rolls. Of the three, the spicy tuna beats the rest by miles because the tuna is seasoned to perfection, and it's freshly made to order. They quoted me for a 25 minute wait, but it honestly didn't take them that long. When I came in to pick up the food, the host already knew and expected me, and she had my food ready shortly. It was also very well packaged. At first, I'm like they're really making me work through this cling wrap to open this box. However, when I couldn't finish, the box didn't shut properly so it made so much sense why they cling wrap it for extra security. I'm appreciative of restaurants going the extra mile to make sure everything is safe and secure even when getting takeout. They also provided plenty of chopsticks and condiments to go. Stopped in here after a long day at a completion on the U of M campus per someone's recommendation. We had a group of 7 and they told us about 30 minutes. Only one person ordered an appetizer but it came pretty quickly and she enjoyed it very much. All of out entrees came within 20 minutes or so. Maybe soon. But definitely not any longer than that. We all got a wide variety of ramen dishes, spicy ramen, chilled ramen, vegetarian ramen, etc. one person also got sushi and again all came out in a reasonable time. The only reason I didn't get sushi was due to the price being $7-9 per roll which just seemed unusually high. Even most of the ramen dishes were $13-17 excluding any add ons. However, it was very good ramen, I will give them that. I got the Hiyashi Chuka which was their seasonal summer ramen dish. This dish is a cold or chilled ramen dish but was very good! It had chicken, pork belly, shrimp, veggies, egg, and more. Everyone else also enjoyed their food quite a bit. Very good sake selection as well and a few flight choices. Also a little on the pricy side I think. But a very good variety. Also tried the black sesame ice cream for dessert which was fantastic. Smooth and creamy and exactly what you'd want to end a meal with. Only downfall is just price I think. But if you're looking for a good ramen dish and aren't on a tight budget. Located very conveniently in downtown Ann Arbor, the slurping turtle is the perfect place to grab some Ramen, enjoy a happy hour special (every day of the week!) or catch a game on one of their big screens. Every time I have gone the servers and hosts are friendly and attend to you quickly, the kitchen is fast with the food, and I'm always comfortably full after a meal there. My most recent visit saw me doing an immediate repeat, with me going for lunch on Saturday and again on Sunday (and ordering the same thing both times).
