Cute bar. Nice outdoor area with a fire pit. Came here after work with the homies. The bar tender was extremely nice at first until she saw that there were more than 10 of us. It was dead in there. She wouldn't let people order at the bar. Said next time we have a large group we need to call and let them know in advance. Ok. We understand that. But if it wasn't for our group there would be like 5 people in there. Anyway. She did a great job managing our group aside from that. We understood that things would take a while since it was her and one other person. Had the nachos with asada. They were good. Missing something tho. Maybe it needs better chips . Really enjoyed my club sandwich! didn't care for the salsa with my chips and salsa. Everyone at my table was happy. Pretty loud atmosphere

We had a party of six today for breakfast/lunch and it was perfect. My "Babe", an eggs benedict with pulled pork and bacon bits was plentiful and great in flavor. The hollandaise was also perfectly made and obviously from scratch. My wife's hummus plate was also excellent. The others had a quesadilla, a French dip, and two had the deluxe grilled cheese. Everyone was quite impressed. The patio setting was also relaxing. The server, Rheannon was so genuinely sincere and quite simply...just extremely nice in how she took care of us. Awesome service, and we love that the restaurant is kid and stroller friendly. We enjoy sitting outside on the patio. But the best part for me is the Taylor Street Italian sandwich. I had seriously high hopes for this place. The pictures show food prepared to perfection and the portions also appeared reasonable for the price. We came on a Saturday afternoon and the neighborhood was a zoo. So many confused people that can't decide what lane to be in, what direction to drive and blocking traffic because it's the wrong mix of ADHD and no GPS. We got lucky, and on the second pass found a park a block away. Inside, I dug the décor, all the racer style bike and propaganda made me think I was at risk of being transported into Aha's Take On Me video. Service was fairly fast and nothing short of friendly, but I had some objections to the menu. 1) No fries. Sorry, I think it should be a crime to serve sandwiches or burgers without fries, specially when you sharge extra for a salad or soup. 2) The temp. It was too cold inside to take of our jackets. I know heating and cooling can both be an issue in this neighborhood, but if people aren't comfortable, they aren't coming back. 3) Noise. I'd assume this is hard to help in their layout, but it was noisier than it needed to be. I had the French Dip with a cup of chili. The beef was super tender and the Au Jus was flavorful, if I had fries on the side, I wouldhave been happy. The chili was probably the worst cup of chili I've ever tasted. It was watery, flavorless and despite being called Meat Chili, it's was 75% Kidney Beans. I added both salt and pepper, but there was no saving it. My buddy had the Chicago Beef, I'm not sure if he knew what to expect, because he appeared surprised when he got his sandwich. He had Potato salad on the side and pushed that back after a single bite. Ironically, I warned him about the potato salad before he ordered it. When you are from the south, you don't trust potato salad from a place like this. Sorry, if nobody here is black or speaks with a southern accent, chances are this is straight up Martha Stewart and that also explains why my chili was so terrible. Again, the service was flawless, but after compromising in not getting fries, I felt cheated paying for an upgraded side that was clearly a downgrade. I come from a time and place where people took pride in their cooking. That almost doesn't exist anymore. When people think the deli counter at Whole Foods is 5-star dining, we got a problem. I should be able to see and smell spices when I walk in a place like this and the overall bland, encounter is reflected of the flavor of the place that boasts "Made from scratch". You need to scratch harder, cause my taste buds are seriously depressed after that meal. I really want to give this place a single star, but the service was good and my sandwich was about 3/5, but everthing else brought this place down, I'm giving them 2 stars in lieu of this experience most likely not being so negative if they had french fries. read more

She came back and asked us if we wanted anything else. We said yes. Some beers and then we'll order some food. She came back with the beer without waters. Then when we ordered food, I reminded her we still needed the waters. She walked by two more times ignoring us, until I finally spoke up and said can we please get some WATERS. Not sure if she thought I was being rude, probably, however, that is not a reason not to bring a senior some waters--just ask me to kindly leave if you have an issue with me asking questions about the menu. Whatever. Don't deprive people water...My goodness! Finally, a different waitress brought the waters. Food was decent, pub fare. But she did not deserve a tip but I think my buddy, who's too nice probably gave her 20%ff--not sure cuz I paid him my half in cash. Won't be coming back! read more

I've loved Smarty Place for 10 years. It was always our favorite place in Georgetown. They have the best vegetarian french dip I've ever had in my entire life and their potato salad is to die for. We love their server Josh and consider him a friend. Unfortunately just discovered they're kid friendly now. We're teachers and give everything we have to our kids throughout the week. Smarty Pants was our sanctuary on the weekend....a time to be around cool adults in a great atmosphere and have a break from kids. Sadly not anymore. Really super disappointed. Through the years I have continued returning to Smarty Pants and an update is needed. Really, they are just simply amazing. It used to be that I would go to Smarty Pants only in the spring and summer when I could sit outside and soak up the Seattle sun as much as physically possible. In the colder months I would abandon the place for roomier locations. But for reasons I have started coming here also in the fall and winter sitting at the bar, enjoying their French Dip, and drinking delicious stiff Moscow Mules. It really is the little things that set a place apart. The food here is great. I moved away from the grilled cheese just because I wanted different fare that may not have as many calories as a grilled cheese, so I went with the French Dip and found that it is one of the best French Dips I have ever tasted. I mean the au jus is fantastically delicious and the meat and bread is divine. I some times will skip lunch so I can feel a little less guilty about eating such decadence. The drinks here are equally as great. I have never been disappointed in a drink here. Their classic Moscow mules are wonderful and they sometimes have a Bramble Mule which I will indulge in when I want something on the sweeter side. I find all their drinks to be equally delightful but those two are my favorites. The service, though, is what I truly enjoy. I come here but not as frequently as I go to other places and yet they consistently remember me. They greet me kindly and I enjoy the conversations that we have at the bar. They remember my order which I particularly enjoy and they always are just welcoming. I really like that. read more

I've been to Garage down in Burien so many times that I decided that it was perhaps time to try to original Seattle location to compare the two. Smarty Pants provides some nice happy hour deals while you wind down from work away from the kiddos (yay for 21+ establishments!!). Plenty of sandwiches on the menu with several other options to choose from. The sandwich, the Lil Brat, was on par to what I'm used to receiving at the Garage location. The potato salad though? No where near as good as Burien! The texture was too whipped and it just wasn't as good as I have become accustom to. Overall Smart Pants, either location, is always a good idea. read more

After attending a boring but thankfully brief meeting in Georgetown, my wife and I decided to reward ourselves with lunch at one of the local restaurants. Before now, we hadn't had the chance to explore what was available to us in this area but were looking forward to trying one of them out - and, boy, did we make a great choice. Smarty Pants is a dark and well-maintained establishment, located just across the street from the original head office of the Rainier Brewery. Catering to the biker crowd and decorated with much motorhead memorabilia, we had a seat at a table, ordered a couple Rainier tall boys from the friendly and heavily tattooed waitperson, and browsed the extensive menu of sandwiches, soups, and salads. I opted for the Club Pants sandwich while my wife went for the turkey and avocado - both with their homemade potato salad. Within fifteen minutes, we were both in sandwich heaven; my club was well toasted on sourdough bread and featured a generous amount of cheese, turkey, and bacon while the turkey avocado (served on a French roll) was both huge and tasty. (My wife doubted she'd be able to finish it but said it was so good that she couldn't stop.) The star, though, was the potato salad, made with baby reds and featuring shallots, seasoning, and just enough (but not too much) mayo to keep it creamy. Fact is, I could likely have made a meal out of that salad alone, it's just that good. Final price for the lot, pre-tip, was about $40.00 - more than reasonable for this level of quality and generous quantity. On the way out, we noticed that there was a sizable outdoor seating area as well, complete with tower heating units, which I expect makes this a comfy place for an afternoon or evening brew and get-together with friends. Smarty Pants is a good choice in a neighborhood of what appear to be many good choices - cold brews, tasty sandwiches, friendly service, and an adults-only policy that's nice for those of us who enjoy a break from the kiddos. All in all, a definite winner - and, as it's located only about five minutes off the freeway, a handy way to wait out the congestion when the traffic gets too thick. read more

The sandwiches are AMAZING! I had the troublemaker. I don't quite feel like the sides they offer match very well, but the sandwich was all I cared about anyway- So good! The only reason I'm giving a 4/5 is because I watched a woman mistakenly take her drink outside, obviously not okay, but the way the waitress/bartender came out and took it from her and brought it inside, and the look on her face was very rude to me. Went in pretty late for a meal after flying into Seattle, and they serve food till midnight! There was some free street parking, and walking in, it is a cool dive bar with beers on tap, bottle, and lots of good eats. They are vegan and vegetarian friendly. We seated ourselves, and a waiter/bartender came to help us out. He was friendly and answered our questions. I got an IPA on tap, a field roast vegan sandwich, and nachos (happy hour!). The sandwich was perfectly toasted, well seasoned, and it came with a ball of potato salad and a pickle slice. You could choose other sides as well. The only thing was there were some egg shells in one bite but no biggie. Yes, I know that means the potato salad is vegetarian, not vegan. They did have a vegan side option as well. Food and service 5 star for years. Now that kids are allowed into our favorite dive bar ambiance is gone. Loud baby/toddlers, the kid at table next to us kicking the bench we all sit on, teenagers ordering nachos and cokes. Not sure how this improves revenue; less alcohol being ordered, bigger messes to clean up, smaller tips, waitstaff is generally unhappy with the change as well. Might work for other locations like Burien, but Georgetown 21 and over patrons and staff say no thanks. We may have to find a new favorite place for brunch, lunch and drinks. read more

I have been wanting to try their sandwiches for years and they did not disappoint! I got the Falcone. The bread was the perfect consistency --- soft but crusty. The chicken was very flavorful and the standout was the giardiniera, which was fresh and had just the right amount of spice. My son got the Taylor Street Italian and it was equally impressive. The meat was fresh and there was plenty of it. The sandwich had just the right proportions of oil, vinegar and mayo. It also had that wonderful giardiniera. The sandwiches are a bit on the large side, which explains the price (about $16.50 a sandwich). You definitely get your money's worth. We did not get any sides so I cannot comment on those. I love their tuna sandwiches I was just becoming a regular until this terrible experience. Ordered my food to go 30 mins prior and was running late so I did not come in to pick it up until 20 mins after it was supposed to be done. The hostess was very rude. I felt interrogated just to pick up my food. In addition to her being rude she said my food wasn't done, which it was clear she just asked a cook to make. Then I had to ask her AGAIN what's going on with the food. I ended up asking for a refund. It really left a sour taste in my mouth how unwelcoming the hostess was, I didn't even get an apology or to eat on my lunch break. Safe to say I will never return. I got my sticker at Smarty Pants and so should you! We exited our flight at SeaTac and we were starving. Found a recommended restaurant nearby and we were not disappointed with their Saturday brunch. Met by a friendly hostess, sat in a clean dinning area and served a hot meal. I got a pouched egg and an avocado on an English muffin smothered with a mild green chile sauce. I first got to know Smarty Pants when the Bacon Craze was going on and they had a Bacontini. I love the style, the food and the people! Unfortunately, I had not been able to visit for some time, but when I was able, I took friends! Well, we got take out... and I think that's probably the biggest mistake. Food tastes best straight away, usually. I ordered The Turkey and Avocado, not looking at the specifics, my fault. The sandwich I was aiming for was a different turkey avocado sandwich with bacon. When I received the sandwich though, the avocado spread was very mushy, it was way more like an aioli than avocado, essentially making this a greasy turkey sandwich with wilted lettuce and too many tomatoes...the cheese was fried with the meat, making it a very slimy texture but the turkey itself was hard to eat due to the burnt cheese I suspect...gave it interesting "grill lines". I was just so disappointed but thought, hey. I ordered The wrong thing anytoots. Next time, I will go in person and eat in, I feel better experiences can be had that way. One of my friends liked his sandwich (the italian) but he said he did not enjoy the chopped ingredients because it was needlessly messy. He said usually for sandwiches like that, the ingredients are chopped but not so finely because everything falls out chopped too finely.
