While on vacation in Destin I searched Yelp for a place with a good turkey burger. We went to Smashburger and it did not disappoint. I got the single turkey burger with the toppings that come on it and it was delicious. I made it a meal and the special fries were really good too. They were crowded but the server was really sweet and the food came out pretty quick. The iced tea was good and the place was clean. This was my second visit to a Smashburger. My first was in Omaha NE and this one is just as good as I remember them being. My husband and I both had the truffle burger with truffle fries. Had to wait about 7 minutes for our food order to be taken, for the price of the food the quality was sub par. My order in particular, the avocado was only partially sliced, so I had to separate it myself to have an even amount across the whole burger. My mother's salad, the Cobb Salad, is supposed to come with guacamole, but after checking twice, there wasn't any, and when she went to ask for some, the manager told the cook that it's supposed to have it, and the cook argued that it did have it. In the end, my mother got her guacamole, but after the manager told the cook to give it to my mother. Wow. Staff was amazingly and epically bad. First, they couldn't seem to get our order correct. It was simply a normal burger but with a gluten free bun. And I had to explain it to the girl at the counter like 5 times. And then they messed it up. Overcharged is for the meal and when I went back to explain what they did wrong she stared at me and didn't say a thing! So I said "can I get the amount you overcharged me back?" Firstly the burger was amazing. The juices on this meat where truly astounding. The meat was wetter than I've been in my entire life. Burgers alone make this place a 5 star restaurant. But the fries are where I'm severely disappointed. I was so hyped after that amazing burger just to be given erectile disfunction thanks to these fries. They tasted like olive oil, grass, and a vegans wet dreams made a fry while blindfolded. Instantly knocking it down to a 4 star. The only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars is because my shake costs $5 but it wasn't even filled to the top so I was a little disappointed. In Dallas Smashburger is awesome. We had to wait for 2 cooks who were doing nothing to see us before the other employees all came out from the back. We cleared a table to have a place to sit. And the other tables were never cheated by the time we left. There were spills in chairs and on the floor. Smash fries were cold. But did have good flavor. The manager should be fired and the owner needs to start over. read more

Ok, so if you are going to spend close to $10 for a burger, you expect more of an "experience" and not just a burger, right? What we have encountered on all three trips to the DESTIN Smashburger was an experience all right....and experience in how not to operate an overpriced burger joint. Before I unleash negativity, please do understand that all of our Smashburger experiences elsewhere have been excellent. We have driven 20 miles out of our way to enjoy the food here in other areas, so its really sad that a place that is 5 miles away turns out to be such a bad experience. At the DESTIN Smashburger, you are greeted by an outwardly unfriendly, seemingly annoyed-to-serve-you teenager/college kid. After you get your number, the struggle is seriously REAL, folks.... And I am referring to the struggle to find a table that has been bused and completely free of ketchup schmear and dirty rag puddles. While you wait, you can't help but observe a floor littered with napkins, stray fries, and used Splenda packets. If you are into a Waffle House ambience and level of sanitation while enjoying your overpriced burger, then the Destin Smashburger is right up your alley! There are tons of solid meal options around the area that I would always recommend over this place (Zoe's, World of Beer, and The Craft Bar (which is an amazing local restaurant)). Funny thing is, Destin Commons is a very upscale area, thus, one would expect that the discerning tastes of the hardworking locals and exhausted tourists would not put up with such a crappy experience. But then, so far, I suppose I have. Well, that is until now. 3 strikes and you are OUT, Smashburger. In closing, the whole scene smacks of poor management. The second time I have been to Smashburger in the past year. I gotta say pretty expensive for lunch for two... $32... but it could have been because each of us got a domestic beer, which was $5 each, so that knocked it up quite a bit... however, at least the beers were poured into frozen beer mugs, which helped. Only Miller domestic products... no Budweiser products, which is unreal as Bud Light is the largest domestic beer sold in the US. We each got a single burger and both enjoyed them a lot... with nice grilled onions included, and both thought very good. We shared an order of regular tater tots and an order of the fried onion straws, and both were excellent, but so few tots and onions in both side orders, it was indeed ridiculous. Honestly it was like only half an order of tots and onions from any other establishment. The clerk was friendly and very pleasant and the place clean. Just a suggestion to the management to lower the beer prices down a bit (especially since World of Beer is right next door with a lot cheaper beer) and to also "anti-up" and give a customer a fair amount of sides they order, as one feels a rip off otherwise. Would eat here more often if responsibly priced... it's just not tourists coming into the Commons with money to burn which they have saved for vacation. read more
