First of all, we're fans of Smashburger. That said, we entered the store and just wanted to wash hands before ordering. Bathrooms were locked. Staff ignored us. I would honestly give this location zero stars if I could. I've been here three times and on the third and last final time (tonight) I decided I should leave a review. The first time that I arrived to the store, I came in and as I walked in and came to the register, an employee was counting the cash in the register. I'm assuming she was ending her shift, and she did not acknowledge me at all. The store is damn near empty. There's no way she didn't just hear me walk through the front door. Then when she finally looks up, she immediately says "oh I didn't see you there" and then she turns to the other employee that seems to be MUCH younger than her and says "hey you have a customer" before leaving the register and moving from me without ever choosing to service me. That alone left a bad taste in my mouth because how dare you be so rude to your employee, who was visibly busy, and tell her that she has work that needs to be done when you were clearly not doing anything. The second time that I came to this location that first initial rude employee, who I believe is possibly a manager of this location, the older white woman who looks so damn miserable, is now working in the kitchen. I get to the register I make an order with the same young lady that was there the first time and she has always remained very kind. Just an Oreo shake. That's it. And I am waiting for my shake. It did not take long however, I hear the woman from the back of the house Make a comment to the young lady in the front and she goes and says something along the lines of "you have a lot of work to do and you know you still have a milkshake to make, it doesn't take that long to make a milkshake" when I hear her make that remark, I immediately walk up to that young lady and tell her that she can take her time, I see that she is busy, and I am in no rush for it right now. I had only ordered it just a moment ago before her Manager decided to be rude to her. And now today, as I sit here in the parking lot while this restaurant is not closed for another 15 minutes I had just left maybe 10 minutes ago and when I walked inside, the staff on duty tells me that the milkshake machine has been shut down for over an hour. Now I am not one to make complaints about things typically, but I am fully aware that the restaurant does not close until 10 PM. Why would the milkshake machine already be closed from 8:30 PM, an hour and a half before the restaurant is closed? that just does not make sense to me. I have worked in the food industry before & I know damn well that's probably not store policy to do that. I asked for the shake, the employee informs me the machine is shut down, and I simply say " so you're telling me no" and he then says yes. I appreciate forward communication. And without pushback, I left. Now, I can understand unruly customers, but I have never come to this establishment and been unruly. I am asking for what I think is the most simple thing to make, & probably an easy cleanup too. So I leave this to say that the staff in this restaurant outside of that one young lady who looks like she's about 16-17 years old; are rude. I do not care to spend money at an establishment with a staff that is so nasty, not only to their customers, but to their own personal staff as well. Also there was a black woman in the back of house tonight while I entered. She is NOT included in my rant about rude staff as she did and said nothing wrong and nothing at all. I was starving and really dug into my shake. When they brought my burger out, I didn't check it. They did not get me the correct burger. The employees in the kitchen definitely need to pay far more attention to the tickets they're getting back there, because this could've been a potential hospital visit for my husband because they couldn't be bothered to read the ticket details. Not too shabby! I wanted to try something different then my usual burger stand so I tried Smash Burger. I am really trying to eat less breads so I asked for the no bun. I ordered the Baja Burger on the suggestion of the young lady at the counter. I told her that i love spicy things. It was delivered to be within 10 minutes, by another smiling young lady, fresh pressed and on a plate with all the dressings. At first I felt weird about this but then I realized that they use fresh green lettuce instead of iceberg so making it hand heals would be difficult. I'm it a fan of iceberg lettuce. All in all, I felt great after eating it. It was delicious. The meat was quality. The lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado and jalapeños were fresh. It was fast. I work in the area and had been craving a cheeseburger for lunch. I decided to stop at SmashBurger since it's close and a convenient location. I ordered the bacon double burger, smash fries and pickles on the side. The cashier at first was quiet and tired but after I was kind to him and said thank you and have a nice day, he turned around and was very friendly. I wanted a side of Mayo for my fries, so I went up to ask the cashier and the cook in the back and I made eye contact so he responded and told me he'll have it right out which was awesome. Great service at this location. Now, the food. The fries were absolutely amazing! Loved them. The pickles were outstanding, I love pickles haha. But the burger...definitely not good. It wasn't seasoned at all, I felt it lacked salt and pepper. The cheese was nonexistent. It's almost as if the cheese completely burnt off the burger and I LOVE cheese. The bun wasn't toasted and so it kind of changed the dynamic of the burger itself. I was really disappointed with it. I was hoping to like it since it's so close to my work but since it was a burger I ordered from SmashBurger and it was the least desirable Item I ordered, I find that as a problem and a reason to not return in the future. Quite honestly, In N Out is right across the street and I would probably just go there instead. Not to knock this restaurant completely, I just was upset that the burger wasn't up to par and this is a SmashBurger. I would think that it's their best product. We had just finished volunteering at Feed My Starving Children and it was about 8:00 in the evening so we decided to stop here for a quick dinner in the area. My boyfriend had never had Smashburger before and I had it once probably 2 years ago. I went with the truffle mushroom swiss burger with fried chicken instead of hamburger meat. My boyfriend went with the classic and we also shared some of their smash fries. There's an In-N-Out down the street but we wanted to give this place a try. There was one other customer in there when we arrived and the place was quiet. The guy working there wasn't all that friendly or lively so this probably isn't a job he really enjoys. The chicken patty used for my sandwich was pretty good but it's essentially a tasty chicken tender. It was kinda messy and I think it's due to possible truffle oil? The Smash fries were nothing special - it's supposedly tossed in olive oil, rosemary and garlic and I didn't taste anything. It could be that I burned my tongue when I bit into the chicken sandwich... or it could be that these smash fries were just plain fries with some dired rosemary sprinkled on top. I probably will never know. I asked my boyfriend how he liked his burger - he said it was just okay. I felt bad that I pointed this place out that night and ended up with a mediocre meal. The Arizona option is spicy, so I opt to have the onions and jalapeño sauteed to mellow. The guacamole is chunky with a little spice of its own. The real hero is the crispy Brussel​ sprouts! Salt, Pepper and a great crunch from the perfect outer leaves. The ranch is a great pair for the sprouts and it a really tasty alternative to fries. The cobb salad is a must try, with the fried egg on the top and crumbly/chewy bacon. I get the grilled chicken on the top. I was really happy with this place the first two times I ordered from here. The last two times have been horrible. I got a burger with RUBBER bacon (it was undercooked and old/been sitting out for hours) As someone who works in a kitchen I could identify the sickening meat but it was too late as I took a bite to discover it... so I had food poisoning :) Then today I ordered a chicken sandwich (NO BACON) just lettuce,tomatoes,pickles, chipotle Mayo. Our $64 dollar big family takeout order fell victim to the Sunday night crew allowing themselves to be distracted by what might have been the manager (a woman not wearing any branded clothes) showing the cooks texts and playing videos for them on her phone. The order looked right in the bag, but once unwrapped several of the sandwiches had the wrong number of patties, onions where they shouldn't be, guacamole on the wrong ones. One of them looked like a little kid's burger with nothing on it but cheese, and with a patty missing. And nothing was labeled, even with scribbled initials. That made it very confusing. The food tastes fine, but the Sunday night crew tonight lacked the minimum professionalism and efficacy that most people look for in a good takeout experience. I came in this location prior to 9:30pm (around 9:19pm). The cashier looked as though she was ready to clock out as she had her backpack on. I ordered fries with my meal and proceeded to order Brussel sprouts when I was advised fryers were shut down and cleaned. The restaurant doesn't close until 10pm. I was told I couldn't order any sides due to this. The cashier seemed to be in a hurry and leave and so I ordered the sandwiches without sides... I think that if an establishment is open until a certain time (especially a burger restaurant) then (unless they're sold out of an item) they should service the customer (not shut down early) unless they're short staffed and then the hours should be changed to close at 9pm (then shut down). The cashier left right after taking my order, the cook had to end up bringing my order to me. This was my first and last time here. read more

Service: I went around lunch time, which if you don't know, this area is around the downtown mesa business centers. So it can become extremely busy fast. The line moved fast, and the cooks were banging out the food as fast as possible. Friendly manager, and eager work attitudes lead to a great wait time. Food: Ok, if you've never had Smashburger, YOU NEED TO. The burgers are great, sometimes seasoned well. The other location I've been to overcooks their food. This one nailed it! The burger was so juicy, that my mouth watered as soon as I saw it. The fries were fresh, and everything was perfect. I even went to the manager to let him know how much better this location was. Overall: Please try this place out! I personally love the regular BBQ bacon cheeseburger with either tots or regular fries.
