I've been eating at Snuffers for 20 years, and just can't believe what we experienced tonight. We have been ordering grilled cheese sandwiches for as long as we have been going and was craving a Snuffers grilled cheese tonight. Seat ourselves and waitress tells us we can't order grilled cheese...only kids under 12 can order. I tell her to charge us for something else, just bring a grilled cheese. She says she can't do that because everything else is on a bun. Ask her to go ask someone to get it ordered, and she says she can't. The restaurant was practically empty...she had one other table because we went early. First time I ever got up and walked out from a restaurant (I did pay for tge drinks we ordered but didn't have time to drink). Went to Haystack and they were more than happy to take my order for a grilled cheese. To management, you are losing a 20 year customer, and over a menu item you would make the most profit on...bread, butter and cheese. Btw, you got one star, because I couldn't leave zero. We stopped by for lunch and enjoyed the $5.99 special! It's a great deal. You get any one of their burgers (excluding the slider and patty melt), and fries or onion strings for only $5.99, M-F during lunch hours. I suggest getting the fries - they were really great! The onion strings weren't bad, but the fries were some of the best I've ever had - perfectly crispy with no greasiness. Patty substitutions are not allowed on the burgers. Normally, you can sub a turkey or black bean patty for no extra charge, but the lunch special does not allow for substitutions. No complaints from me on that. $5.99 is a great deal for this. I'm only reviewing the lunch special because this was my first visit to Snuffer's. Service was nice & friendly. They were a tad understaffed, but everyone was very service oriented. This is a classic Dallas staple. Snuffers is the real deal. You know those restaurant chains like TGI Fridays and Bennigan's? Well, this is the type of place they're trying to emulate. The only problem is they focus too hard on aesthetics and yet are never able to capture the essence of a place like Snuffers. Along with Chip's and Keller's, this is an excellent historic Dallas burger place that never disappoints. I'll list some highlights: their signature cheese fries, burgers that hit-the-spot, an unpretentious "everyone knows your name" atmosphere, an extensive outdoor seating area that overlooks Lower Greenville, not to mention mischievous spirits that mess with employees and staff. This place has it all! Now, unfortunately, I can tell you on my last visit there was a fair amount of ectoplasm coating the surface of our outside table, and even after we had switched seats it appeared that all of the outside tables had a similar sticky surface causing the menus to be glued down. I came here for lunch today with a coworker. We both had not visited the remodeled restaurant. We decided to choose a table in the middle of the restaurant. Here is a breakdown of what we ordered: Appitizers: Small order of cheese fries. The small was large enough and filling enough to split between two people. Snuffers does not skimp on the bacon or chives! YUM! Entree: crispy buffalo chicken sandwich I was extremely dissapointed in the buffalo chicken sandwich. First, the chicken was not crispy. I was imagining a fried, juicy chicken sandwich dipped in buffalo sauce. Well, the chicken was super thin and dry. Thank god for the buffalo sauce. I kept looking at my friend's burger and tried to imagine it on my plate. I paid $8 for a tiny piece of meat on a sandwich. The renovation looked sharp. I enjoyed the ambiance. Parking was easy and we got a front row seat. This is my second time ordering chicken at a snuffers location. I don't think I will go for a third. I might not even come back. read more

My wife I decided to go to Snuffers rather than one of our favorite burger joints. Aside from the friendly server, it wasn't a good experience, at all. Guests seated after us got their drinks before us. I ordered my burger medium-rare and it was well done. The patty also seemed smaller than the advertised 1/2 lb. I had asked for fries for the extra $1.50, but my burger came solo. To "make up for it", our server brought me a shareable basket ($3.50), then charged me full price for it instead of $1.50 or on the house!!! Snuffers has always been a Dallas favorite of mine. The service is usually spotty to be honest (sometimes bad sometimes great) but their famous cheese fries always seem to make up for it. I felt very safe eating here. Everything was clean, servers were masked and tables were socially distanced. I was told I will be seated after one lady who arrived before me. Walked to bar. No open seats. Walked to benches meant for people waiting and masses of people begin to flood in. Go back to check in. Everyone sat at tables as soon as they were cleaned and available. I got the gist and a PATRON AT THE RESTAURANT ADVISED ME AND ANOTHER GUEST 'ITS AN OPEN SEATING PLACE' Whew I was livid. I patiently waited for 15 minutes watching everyone else happily seat themselves. Why was I not, AT MINIMUM, advised, "Hey, by the way. Typically open seating. If you see a table open before I'm able to grab you, take a seat" Anyways. My server was lovely. She was pleasantly sweet. Extremely attentive. We have been here quite a bit and the food has been consistently good and I have tried most items on the menu and been happy with everything. It goes without saying that the cheddar fries are amazing. One time when we were there they royally messed up our order but the manager completely took care of it and even gave us vouchers for future use which we really appreciated and made us want to go back since they value customer service. My only complaint against Snuffers is that their employees seem to always be a little overloaded and you almost always have to flag them down to get their attention, even to pay your bill. read more

Snuffers is a solid little spot. Great happy hour specials 4-7. Which I really appreciate. I typically don't write reviews unless they are warranted but I had such an amazing time on a wonderful day on the cool indoor/outdoor patio. Drinking $3 beers and smashing fried pickles. Great ranch. They take a page out of ole Jake Keller's book and make the burger buns serve them with poppy seeds. Nice play. Snuffers has always been a crowd favorite for the cheese fries which are very solid. Fries mushrooms are really tasty too. All in all Snuffers is above average for its grub BUT this place wins for the amazing patio/bar and happy hour specials. Wow! The cheese fries are AWESOME! When I started planning my trip to Dallas Snuffers was on the itinerary. I had to have the legendary cheese fries and they didn't disappoint after all of these years. Crispy Idaho potato fries covered in fresh grated Wisconsin cheese---melted to perfection. I love them with bacon and dipped in the house ranch. My friends got theirs with chives and jalapenos. We are in Texas so jalapenos go on everything. I also got the fried mushrooms with the house ranch. The batter is yummy and crispy. They have a variety of burgers-- the turkey burger is a winner. Snuffers was one of our hangouts when I was in college---they have remodeled and put up flat screen TVs so any booth or table has a great view of the game. We were at the original Snuffers on lower Greenville Avenue -- there are several locations. But this location has a special place in my heart---- great food great memories. read more

However I quickly already saw the waitress not being well attentive with us. He took our drink menu and our appetizer and that itself took FOREVER to get. When we finally got our burgers she had forget the extras we wanted with the burger, didn't give us napkins either and once we had all that we had asked for she forgot about us and didn't refill our waters etc. before we could finish our food she asked if we wanted the check. Had the bacon jam cheeseburger (should be called bacon, bacon and bacon cheeseburger) with an order of cheese fries (with bacon, jalapeno and green onion) and they were both fantastic. The burger was likely the best I have ever had, cooked to medium as requested, perfectly I might add. The flavors were complex, beefy, bacony with a touch of smokiness. Today's lunch was only 2 star-worthy for our family of six. Things went haywire from the start, as our frazzled, inexperienced waiter got 2 orders wrong causing us to eat in shifts. We know many restaurants have had difficulty hiring and keeping staff, so maybe they were short handed today, we wanted to blame our server's inattentiveness on that, but shouldn't the manager pitch in to cover that? We sat waiting for condiments, napkins, water refills, and mistaken orders. It was not the typical good service we've had here in years past. I can tell you I have eaten at my fair share of burger places. I absolutely place this hidden gem at the top of the list! I saw fried mushrooms on the menu and could not resist. I'm happy to say, I'm glad I followed my gut. They were incredible. I like horseradish with mine and our server, Jimmicia was happy to bring us some. We ordered the classic cheeseburger as is in the menu with onion fries. So glad we did. The cheeseburger was cooked just right. The amount of condiments was not overwhelming, perfect burger.
