Pineapple Fried Rice and Papaya Salad
    John D.

One of the few spots closing late at night in the area, 2am! Headed here at 11pm for to-go. It's a cozy little restaurant and the service was fast for our to-go food. The Pineapple Fried Rice was decent with a good amount of Pineapple and Chicken, but the Papaya Salad could use a little more flavor. Overall, if you need a place to munch late at night, this place is a good option.

Horrible thai food! I was really excited to try this place since I live walking distance and it was a huge disappointment. I got the street noodles with grilled pork and the noodles tasted like clumped 3 day old ramen noodles with soy sauce poured on them and the pork was super fatty and had a really bad gamey flavor. This dish did nottt look like it did in the menu pictures. The papaya salad was also just ok and did not taste like it normally does at other spots. I would not go back ever, such a bummer!

we could only find curbside parking that was right outside of the restaurant if you get lucky. the restaurant is small but lots of seating, might be hard with a big group but plus side it is open very late! service: 5/5 our server here was so nice and friendly. i had a question about one of the drinks on the menu and she told me it was like thai tea pink drink which sounded interesting but i worried that it might be too sweet since thai tea itself is already super sweet. our food came out quickly and we were checked on throughout our meal :) food: 5/5 i ordered the pad thai with tofu. it was so yummy, i love when the noodles are rich with flavor and not dry. the tofu was perfectly cooked as well. i also enjoyed the touch of the fried wonton on the side as well. i was hungry so i ate this up and i was satisfied.

If you're craving Thai food and think a classic pad Thai will hit the spot, this one was... fine. Nothing bad, nothing great. The noodles looked good at first glance but turned out a little on the dry side, wish there was a bit more of that sweet, tangy sauce that ties it all together. The pork was tender enough, and the egg and bean sprouts added that familiar texture mix, but it just didn't have the depth or punch you hope for in a solid pad Thai. Visually, it looked the part, steaming noodles, a wedge of lime, a little crunch on the side, but flavor-wise, it landed squarely in the "meh" zone. At $16.99, it felt a bit steep for something so middle-of-the-road. $13.00 would've made more sense for what you get. Not a disaster, just not memorable. Probably won't be back for round two.

I rarely leave bad reviews but I feel the need to warn people. The dumplings were fine but steer clear of the chicken sate unless you actually mean to order freeze-dried chicken. I did not.

I'm really disappointed. I requested mild because I couldn't find a "no spice" option, but this dish was extremely spicy -- not mild at all. I couldn't eat it. I even tried adding water, but it didn't help. The potatoes were hard, and one piece of chicken didn't seem cooked through. I had to throw it away, which was so upsetting after waiting for delivery so late at night. I have a sensitive stomach and this made me feel sick after 2 spoons. I've had Thai food before and mild dishes were never this spicy. I hope the restaurant can be more careful about spice levels for customers who request mild. Literally really wanted to cry because I was starving waiting for this and I had to throw it away. I hate throwing away food but this was uneatable.

Nice small cafe with Thai food. The cooking time was fast. My pad thai ok. They have parking on street available. I was expecting rice instead of noodles, they didn't ask me and I forgot to clarify, since I was thinking it's always rice. I'd say it's a fusion cafe, not an original taste of Thailand food. Would be also nice if they have asked me about spicy levels and of if I have any nut ( peanut) allergies

I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. My wife said probably the best she has ever had - crispy, creamy, actual crab sightings in the filling - loved it. Green curry - loaded with ingredients and aromatic and enticing. Eggplant, bamboo shoots lots of meat, veggies - and the curry underneath was loaded with flavor. Medium spice hit just right (I can handle Thai hot but I am taking it easy ok??) Drunken noodles - but an udon version? Let's try it - loved it! Again - plentiful meat, basil fragrance wafting to my nostrils, spicy sweet and savory blended sauce - fantastic. Verdict? I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. And as someone who works in production and knows that things never go as planned, I'm generally the first to give someone the benefit of the doubt when something goes wrong. What I judge is the response....which is what prompted my original review. Several of my reviews here deal with that response rather than an isolated incident, and that's where a company's true colors shine. It isn't when everything is running smoothly when that recognizable critic is present (and also my objection to having a clear photo as requested by Yelp), but when the unexpected happens to an otherwise anonymous customer. How the staff manages their response when a valid complaint is made make all the difference, and unfortunately it took taking my complaint public to get a response, but yes, they came through in the end and I'm happy to recommend them again.

And I've always been circumspect about "quick serve" versions of these cuisines...and apparently for good reason My friend (who apparently thinks this restaurant is fantastic) suggested we try it so I was game. We both ordered lunch specials for $16.95. My choice was the basil chili and pork which came with a choice of soup or salad. My friend ordered the broccoli cashew with chicken. We both opted for a salad and brown rice. The salad came with a disgusting ranch dressing but turned out to be the best part of the meal. My entree had lots of diced zucchini, bell peppers and carrots in an indescribable goopy sauce along with a giant mound of brown rice and a fried vegetarian egg roll. It was both unappetizing and virtually inedible. There was paper thin pieces of pork as well which didn't improve the experience. My friend's cashew/broccoli with chicken looked equally unappetizing but he ate it with great delight. I wouldn't feed this food to my dog and I can only posit that this dumps' longevity can be attributable to fast and cheap. Because there's absolutely no other reason I can imagine that ANYONE would think this dreck even approaches the concept of Thai food.
