Pretty normal Mediterranean spot, it's good food (delicious baba ganoush but super over charred veggies) great for a neighborhood spot but not a place I'd go out of my way for. The location itself has pretty easy street parking, but all the seating is out doors and subject to the weather, wind, and limited seating. The dining space is super cute and they do put a nice effort to keeping it aesthetic. This was our first visit to Sofreh, and we were disappointed in ourselves that we hadn't found it earlier. Amy helped us put together a great sampling of what their menu has to offer. And it didn't disappoint. The lamb chops were savory and cooked perfectly. The beef and chicken Lule was tasty and paired well with the pita and humus. And beef Shawarma was sooo good, melted in the mouth. Now, I'm a rice snob, my favorite Mediterranean place closed over 8 years ago. And in my opinion had the best rice I've ever tried. Sofreh's is a great substitute with a twist. The rice is tasty and just the perfect fluffy consistency without an over starchy taste, but their use of barberries in the basmati rice was delicious. A solid place for Persian food and the best place to eat outdoors in East LA. I ordered the shish kabob combo (#5) which comes with chicken shish and beef shish as the protein. They were both a bit dry but nothing like tzatziki and hummus to save the day. If you're a garlic lover, then you'll also love the garlic sauce. The pita was a bit thinner than what I'm used to and what I prefer but it made for a nice wrap when I assembled all the ingredients together. It's a very balanced and colorful meal with veggies, protein, and carbs so I left satiated. We just love Sofreh. I am not sure if it is Greek, Persian or Mediterranean food. I think it is a combination of all. It is just so good. Call it what you want. You order at the counter and eat where ever you want. They have great outdoor seating with heating lamps when needed. It is in East LA and we love East LA. There is always something to great to find there. The service is fast and really nice and they will explain what some things on the menu are. I get confused. What we love most is their soup. They have chicken soup and an amazing lentil soup and both are super fresh and you get a good amount. Their hummus is so good and they have a nice flat bread for dipping. Their pita wraps are the best in town. They have chicken, gyro, chicken kabob and others that are so tasty. They also have a great vegetarian one. You can't go wrong with any of them. For dessert we love their cheesecake, although I am not sure they make it there, they have strawberry, chocolate and just regular cheesecake. This is still my favorite Mediterranean restaurant! My usual take-out order is their Shawarma Combo Plate with extra garlic sauce. The meats are flavorful and sauces are delicious, especially their garlic sauce. I've never been disappointed with this entree. Their kebabs dishes are also great. Can here on a whim, on a Monday around 5 pm. This takeout / dine corner spot, feels like a hole in the wall, but might come close to a gem in the wall. I ordered a lamb / steak combo, and the food was exceptionally succulent, and satisfying. You could tell that much love went into the preparation and presentation of the food. Full stop. The most juicy, tender, flavorful lamb chops. The chicken and beef kabobs are well seasoned and tasty. But later, I got seriously sick - definitely food poisoning. The really annoying part is that when I wrote this review. The owner, who's also persian basically called me a liar. He acted like I was making it up or something. It just sucks because you'd think he'd be concerned, especially since we share a similar background. A great Persian restaurant in the heart of East LA. I ordered the chicken and beef koobideh kebab combo plate, and a yogurt drink to try. The koobideh had good flavor, the salad was light/refreshing, rice was cooked perfectly, and the hummus was probably my favorite part. Portions are generous. Lemon wedge was greatly appreciated. Personally the koobideh texture a little sponge-ish/springy (?) compared to other Middle Eastern restaurants I've had, but still very flavorful. The yogurt drink was labeled "BB Nov 26 2023:" I think BB means 'best by' and I visited on Dec 12 2023...I still want to try their Ghormeh Sabzi, so I'll be back. The staff is very friendly and efficient. You're given a pager that buzzes when your order is ready. The outdoor patio spaces are charming thanks to the decor and furniture. Having grown up in East LA, it's nice seeing new, diverse food options in the area and Sofreh sets a wonderful precedent, giving them an extra star in my book. read more

My friend suggested this place for lunch and we are always willing to try new places. The food was DELICIOUS. He said this is as close to his moms homemade food that he's tried out here. I don't eat meat so opted for the falafel plate. It was so good! The rice was a nice balance of sweetness added and the falafel was a nice blend of seasonings (some places just give you a bland falafel!) The service was decent, we probably waited around 15 mins for our food to be ready. I also liked how the grape leaves weren't too sour compared to when I tried them at other restaurants. Some downsides to the restaurant are the prices and parking. These plates were on the pricier side, but I didn't mind it that much. The part that killed me was when I ordered tzatziki, they brought out 1 very small cup of it and it costed $7... Parking also looked like a nightmare. If I had been the one driving, I wouldn't have even bothered stopping by. In conclusion, personally I don't think I'd be back mostly bc of its inconvenient location and prices. I've been a customer since Sofreh opened. Distinguished by quality, freshness, and flavor. It has never been bargain food but it was fairly priced considering the quality. Within this previous year over several orders, I have experienced a lack of attention to detail. The protein portions are dry, maybe overcooked or recooked but it's a significant difference. Prices have increased by approximately 47%, for example the chicken lover offering was $42.99 and is currently $59.99 far over the rate of inflation. I agree everything is now more expensive but not at a 47% increase. Additionally the portions, particularly of rice are also significantly less. This is very noticeable from the perspective of a long time customer. Unfortunately I've also experienced mistakes with my orders and although rectified, I either had to wait for a prolonged period or I've opted not to accept the corrective action so my family and I can enjoy our meals together. On two occasions I ended up just eating what was received and gave up my plate to my wife on one occasion and with the other mishap I switched with my daughter because they didn't like the mistaken order received. Sofreh no longer meets expectations of quality and attention to details. I wish Sofreh well and hope they meet your expectations, but with other options of Mediterranean restaurants nearby, I will take my business elsewhere. My most recent order was today Friday 8/29/25.
