I came here after a leg day work out because my boyfriend wanted kbbq. This was the only kbbq place I can think of. Anyways, we came in on a week night, and the restaurant was about 40% full. I've been here before, I didn't think it was bad so we walked in. I usually don't like half empty restaurants, but whatever. Anyways, we order a combo, replaced the bulgolgi with beef tongue (bc I don't care for bulgolgi). The meat came out, it was okay, not super good quality, just okay. The server did cook for us, like how they do it at kang ho dang baekjeong. The combo was filling for two people. I thought it was a bit slow. The waitress forgot my bf's diet coke, had to ask again mid meal. The ban chans weren't always filled, and had to keep on asking. I noticed there was a lady micro managing the whole staff. They seem pretty stressed even when the restaurant isn't at 100% capacity. I feel like the prices here is about the same or maybe more than kang ho dang, but the meat is better over there in comparison. 3 stars because you're paying about $95 for just okay food, and I feel like that is too high for just okay. read more

I was a bit confused when I walked into this kbbq restaurant in old town. Where is the smoke? Where is the smell? The place looked spotless with its simple white decor. Turns out they have some state of the art exhaust vent built into the grills so you come out without smelling like you just ate Korean BBQ! The servers were great and attentive and did all the work for us. All we had to do was eat! As for the food: The served both green onion salad and regular salad along with the banchan which to my surprise included white and red kimchee. I must have eaten 3-4 bowls of the white kimchee and the other banchan was great as well 1) beef brisket - this is one of my favorite cuts to start with! Sliced perfectly thin and grilled very quickly on a high heat. The best part of this dish was dipping it into the sesame oil infused with minced garlic! Not sure why other KBBQ places haven't tried this! 2) rib-eye steak - nicely marbled and not marinated to let the meat speak for itself. Another solid course 3) steak tartare - very fresh and nicely marinated. Great palate cleanser and I'm glad they serve this after a couple of grilled courses to cleanse the palate. 4) beef bulgolgi - they use a sweeter marinade and the beef is cut into strips versus the normal slices I'm used to. I ordered a bowl of rice to enjoy with this course. at this point my 6 month old started screaming so I had two options. I knew the kalbi was next so do I wait and let the other customers suffer while I enjoy my favorite cut of meat or do I leave first. I chose the later and spared my friends and their ears but I did get a chance to see the kalbi as I left and it looked amazing. You can tell they took the time to score the meat like only good kbbq places (Parks, Chosun, Soowon) to make the kalbi more tender and absorb the marinade. I will be back to try it as well as the kimchee fried rice and the outside skirt! read more

The restaurant kindly allowed us to reserve a table for 11 the day of. We were here once before and loved the atmosphere. It's small and cozy with modern decor and delicious food. We celebrated our teen daughters birthday with 7 of her friends. The service was great and accommodating but the food is the true star. Loved the salads, dumplings, shrimp, kimchi rice, and the meats. We ordered the selection of meat for six and two with many appetizers and sides. They offer a server to grill for you or assist you, the girls opted to grill their own and we had the server help us. This is a plus to the dining experience there. We had a wonderful time and our daughter enjoyed her birthday! And in the end It came to about $40 a person which unheard of for such a memorable experience. Can't wait to go back. read more

Came here last night and the food was great! I was quite concerned when I saw them using the same tongs they used to handle raw pork to also handle the then cooked pork- however, I figured they were aware and tried to convince myself that my concern wasn't warranted. Well, turns out you should always listen to your gut instinct. I woke up this morning with food poisoning. Pork is not something that should be taken lightly in terms of food handling. Here is an update to my review below, based on the proprietors' assertion that they told us to walk around Pasadena and our table would be ready soon. Initially, we were told the wait was 15 minutes. We did indeed walk around the block and window shop. When we returned, we were told 1) Our table would be at least another 20 to 30 minutes because they were saving tables for 16 people and 10 people, respectively; 2) Look at all the people waiting, what do you expect?; and 3) Come back some other time, like a Monday. As I state below, training in how to run front-of-house in a restaurant would help this new spot enormously. A nightmare of disorganized chaos. They claim to take reservations only for parties of 8. When we arrived at 6:45 they were saving nearly the entire restaurant (which is small to begin with) for a party of 8, a party of 10 and a party of 16!!!!!! There were several small, normal groups of diners (parties of 2, 3, 4, etc.) milling about angrily and frustratedly outside the restaurant. Somebody please hire someone with restaurant experience to run this new place. And until they do, I recommend that anyone who wants to eat dinner.... go elsewhere! read more

I went into this place by myself. For those Korean BBQ experts out there, venturing into one of these places solo is pretty uncommon. It was close to 8:00 at night and the place was moderately full. I was given my own table, which is hit or miss normally at a Korean bbq. Either way I was fine. Either it was a chance to meet new people, or an alone dinner to catch up on some work. Long story short, I was given my own table, and was treated like there were 4 of us there. Of course all of the sides came out, which were way too much for me to handle by myself. I probably could have eaten the sides and left and been full. I ordered bulgogi, because, well.... bulgogi. And the waiter came by very often to see how I was doing. Not in an intrusive way. Just a "hey, can I get you anything?" kinda feel. The kimchi is some of the best I ever had. And I don't say that lightly. The waiter asked if I'd like to cook the bulgogi I ordered, or if I'd like him to. I hate long reviews... but honestly, this place is worth going to. I wish I lived here. I would frequent this place. The food is amazing and the service is second to none. I'm only saying this to reaffirm what I've been saying... but I left a $50 tip on a $35 check. I've been eating Korean BBQ my whole life and for the most part I only eat it in Ktown. I was a bit skeptical when my friends wanted to go to a KBBQ place in downtown Pasadena. The interior and decorations are modern and the place is spacious and clean. Because the place is nicely done and in downtown Pasadena the prices are obviously higher here than an average KBBQ place. The banchan comes out and there are decent options and they refill them quickly when you eat it all. On to the meats. The quality was decent except for a couple pieces that had excess fat. I prefer to cook the meats myself so that I can cook it to my preference but here the waiters do most of the cooking and they over cooked most of the meats which was disappointing. Ordered some soju and Hite to wash it all down and it was a nice dinner. This place doesn't compare to Ktown but it's not bad for being in Pasadena catering to a non asian crowd. read more

I've actually walked by this place multiple times and did not know it existed! Luckily, my friends had a dinner party here last night. It's a spacious location with high ceilings and bright lights. We had a party of 8 and pretty much ate everything. My favorite was the galbi taco - I'm not a fan of fusion usually but this was amazing! I love the deep fried tortilla chip with the sweetness of the galbi with the fresh lime and red cabbage. It was a wonderful mix of textures and flavors. The free side dishes were yummy as well. I can't handle spicy but I was able to eat all of them. Heard that they are made in house too - free and good -- that's my style. I also recommend the steak as it was juicy and tender. Service was friendly and good, I never like cooking myself so it's always good to just watch someone cook for me. Best part of this place - I can leave without smelling like I just ate Kbbq. Their stove has some sort of internal vent so the smoke sinks down into it (instead of rising up). I went to find friends right after and was not embarrassed at all hugging them hello.
