A decent experience and bite! Was stopping in town from Tucson, looking for a quick bite that was above fast food.. this was definitely it! I enjoyed their lunch special (medium) chimichanga, with Tinga chicken.. I found the chicken to be quite tasty in how they cook/simmer it.. freshness was decent, but could have been another step up, but by no means was it not NOT fresh, so take that as you will! Will I plan to be back!? Perhaps! I wished the service was slightly better, I found our experience to not be super friendly to two out of towners. Also, a side note, if you want a horchatas as your choice of fountain drink that's included in your meal, or if you were hoping for chips & salsa, count on paying for both, since they are extra, Decent experience overall. If I'm in the area again, I may consider trying more items off the menu. :) read more

Was excited to try this place because it's close and down the street but unfortunately when biting into my shrimp burrito there was a red wire zip tie thingy inside. A full-size red zip tie! I called I didn't want a refund, or a free meal like the manager was offered bc I can not even understand how something like this happens. The manager said she will tell the kitchen to be more careful with the zip ties from the tortillas. Yeah I guess on to the next median place for Mexican food nights for the family bc we're not doing that again. read more

I've lived in AZ since I was 7, so I've tried a ton of Mexican food. This place is currently #1 in my book. Everything is always piping hot, the service is great, and you can tell everything is made in house. We just moved to the area and ate here 4 times in one week because it's that amazing. Every single dish has so much flavor. I love that eventhough it's a small spot they give you the sit down experience with real plates and nice silverware that isn't dollar store crap. Everything was so flavorless and watered down, it was difficult to eat. We had such high hopes, based on the reviews, but I would sooner crave a chain walk-up burrito joint over this spot. I've been here twice so far. We most recently got street tacos on Taco Tuesday. The Tuesday special we're street tacos. We got one of each kind of meat offered for the special. They were decent but not something that stands out too much to me as a go to spot. What I did really like was the al pastor has pineapple in it! I haven't seen anywhere put actually small pieces of pineapple. It's a nice touch! One thing to note is the street tacos are quite small. When we opened our box we were disappointed at the size. Surprisingly we were full with 4 tacos each though. The main thing I want to highlight is their homemade horchata is so good! It's probably the best horchata I've ever had! I am not sure I would visit regularly as I would like to try out other spots for tacos but would def come back just to grab the horchat! read more

I live in gilbert now and am looking for delicious Mexican food on this side of town. I found one finally! I had the enchiladas entree. It was yummy. My friend got the tacos and devoured them. It was pretty quick to come out although they didn't give us our food at the same time. My friend got his about five minutes before mine. He was a sweetheart and waited although I told him to eat. It was kinda busy when we went in with a few tables open but everyone seemed content with their food. I'd go back again. read more

I found this place here on yelp while looking for a spot close to home for a good tampiqueña. It had good reviews so we thought we would give it a try. Boy I am glad we did!! At first glance it looked a little more like one of the many "Berto's" across the valley. Don't let the looks deceive you though. The food was excellent and on par with almost any other high end Mexican restaurant. I ordered the tampiqueña and I wasn't disappointed. The meat was tender and flavorful and the enchilada was super tasty as well. I ordered corn tortillas with my meal and they were soft fluffy and tasted amazing. If I had to guess I would say they were homemade. My wife got the taco salad with grilled chicken which came in a fried flour shell. It did not disappoint!!!! Hands down the best taco salad I have had in a very long time and maybe even ever. This will definitely be a place we go to again and again. Just went about three days ago to Sol Azteca. Went there for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly staff. Kind of like a home kitchen. I had a tamale plate. Excellent. Instead of being fat and full of just Masa, and no filling, they rather had a lot of filling surrounded by a little bit of masa. The red sauce was good, maybe a little bland. I would've liked a little more flavor out of the red sauce, but it was still good. Rice and beans were good. My mother is 92 so she had a child plate with a Carnita taco. And it was delicious (I ate some of it! - she gets full easily.). Definitely will go there again. It was full, also, when we went. I think it's pretty popular. read more

We went about 5:30pm on a Wednesday and the place was busy, they were so quick at taking orders. Orders came fairly quickly and the portions were plentiful. Admittedly, having been raised within 5 miles of one of the nation's best Mexican food communities, I've had trouble adjusting my expectations since leaving my childhood home. So what a delight to get something that felt both familiar AND different when I visited Sol Azteca. I'm not a vegetarian, but when dining by myself, it's not uncommon for me to eat a vegetarian meal. The corn quesadilla- yes! A quesadilla made on a large corn tortilla! Was filled with grilled peppers and onions and was definitely a whole meal with the pico, guacamole, sour cream on the side. Getting good veggies at a Mexican restaurant *shouldn't* be difficult, yet somehow has been (at least in the East valley)- Sol Azteca fixes this problem beautifully! You can dine in or pick up- the space is very casual, with a strong taco shop feel to it. I'll definitely dine here again. read more

We were looking for a new and great Mexican food restaurant to try I was actually thinking this place was going to have a bigger dine in area but it's actually kind of small inside but that's ok. The food here was super fantastic the asada is very tender and flavorful and their chile relleno's are definitely 10 stars the combos come with a choice of corn or flour tortillas with bean and rice. I honestly have high hopes for this restaurant and look forward to returning to try their tamales and cheese enchiladas this place is definitely worth the drive for lunch or dinner. read more

What a find in a strip mall!! It's set up more like a fast food or to-go restaurant, it's not your typical full Mexican restaurant. There are 6 open tables inside and 4 outside. There is a pretty vast menu to choose from, but the first thing that caught my eye was the Molcajetito. It's an individual size Molcajete and it's GENIUS!! I have always wanted my husband to try one but they are usually massive pots to share with a group and I can never split it with him since I don't eat any of the meats in there (except the chicken). So of course I told him to order it! It came out sizzling like a fajita dish with a healthy side of rice and refried beans. The pot is set up with the bigger cuts of meat displayed on top, but make sure you dig around and scoop from the bottom when filling your tortilla. There were only 3 tortillas so ask for extra if you want, but the dish is delicious enough on it's own to just eat with the fork straight out if the bowl! The guac was super fresh and he ate all of it which is rare because he doesn't usually like guac. The pot has carne asada, chicken, chorizo & cactus, topped with grilled green onions, queso fresco & Ranchero salsa. The chorizo had a bit of a spicy kick to it, but he likes spice so it was fine, and he would use the beans to mellow out the heat. I ordered the Fiesta Salad with grilled chicken. Devoured every last bite. It was a nice heap of shredded lettuce topped with plenty of chicken and cotija cheese, a few slices of avocado and cilantro. The rest of the toppings are all combined together so I had to go without since I can't have corn or onions, but it was still delicious. And the cilantro crema dressing was awesome I wanted to take the rest of the ramekin home with me! Just based off those two items I have a feeling you can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu, I'm sure it's all delicious. The place was nice and clean and they customer service was fantastic.
