Delicious!! Some of the reviews were making me nervous. Be reassured that the food was delicious. We had the kale salad, brussels sprouts, squash fritters, chicken sandwich, and burger. The food is good basically 4 star worthy but there needs to be some disparity because there are a lot of 4 star places that I feel are much better than this place in general. Service is great they have an separate dining area restaurant kind of deal and a dining area situated around the bar. The wings were great 4 star quality definitely. I got the quesadilla which wasnt really filled all that mucha nd had a tortilla on top of a tortilla instead of folded over tortilla which is the norm. Quesadlla was ok but thats about it. My girlfriend got the reuben which I ate half of which was actually really good. The chili looks amazing too and the french fries are overall satisfactory. Prices here are insane which is what makes this place 3 stars. Some of the drinks cost double then they did at dinner at the Stowe Hoff the night before. Thats just kind of interesting to me. Decent selection for beers on tap overall the experience and food is close to 4 stars but again I need some disparity. A 3.5 star place or higher end 3 star joint depending on how you want to look at it. read more

My wife and I ate here three times during our stay. Twice for dinner and once for breakfast. I can say that the staff was extremely attentive and when the dinners were good, they were unbelievable. Stowe Mountain Lodge is a fantastic place and having this restaurant on site was a real treat. No need to go out of your way for a very good meal. Our first dinner consisted of the Mushroom Cappuccino Soup and Ricotta Gnocchi as starters, the Hanger Steak with Mashed Potatoes (classic) as entrees, and the homemade Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream and Chocolate Lava Cake with Maple and Sea Salt Ice Cream for desserts. Every single item was perfect. This was one of those dinners that you want to last forever. Every morsel was delicious and our taste buds cried out for more! Our breakfast was fine. There was a buffet available but we opted for the a la cart options and were pleased. Nothing artistic or mind blowing here. Just Eggs Benedict and Pancakes to warm you up on a crisp and cozy fall morning. Our second dinner was hit and miss. We split the Ricotta Gnocchi again and were slightly disappointed as it had lost some of the flavor that we remembered from the dinner we had earlier in our stay. It was good, just not as "oh my god" good as we had. I ordered the Pork Tenderloin over Butternut Squash Puree with (I forget the type of) Mushrooms. It was incredible. An absolutely perfect fall entree, and perfectly cooked! My wife had the (I think) Cauliflower Risotto with Lobster. That entree completely missed the mark. The cauliflower did no absorb any of the sauce and as such seemed flavorless and al dente. The lobster was also bland, strangely. She had to send it back. As a replacement she got the same entree as I did and we were back on track! Absolutely delicious. I'd say that you cannot do much better than Solstice for a much better than average meal in a beautiful location. If we had only had the one meal I would have no problem going all five-star on this place, but the slight inconsistency gives me pause. My wife and I came for a two night stay at Stowe Mountain Lodge this past weekend and couldn't wait to eat at what seemed like a very fine dining restaurant right at our hotel! Before we went out to ski on Saturday morning we went over to the hostess desk to make a reservation. She intoned it was almost booked but if we were willing to take a late reservation she might be able to fit us in at 9. She made it seem like she was doing us a favor so we were thrilled (we don't mind eating late at all). When we showed up at 8:30 the place was half empty leading us to wonder why we were given such a hard time about getting a 9 o'clock reservation. We were sat right next to the window which we quickly found was very cold. We asked the server to turn the heat vents right next to us on and she said she would look into it. We ordered red wine and an appetizer. The red wine arrived in white wine glasses which we thought was odd but didn't complain. It was then a solid 15 minutes before a manager then came over to take our order. We watched and wondered if our server had forgotten about us as she served all the tables around us. When she finally realized we hadn't ordered yet we saw her walk up to a manager, whisper something in his ear, and then he came over to take our order. We ordered and complained to him about the cold. He said he would contact engineering to see if anything could be done. Nothing ever was. It remained cold throughout the meal. The appetizer (gnocci) was excellent as well as the wine. The snapper I ordered was bland and tiny. The lamb my wife had was ok but not amazing. The food quality did not match the reputation, ambiance, and pricing on the menu. Save yourself some money and have dinner at hourglass instead. We had lunch there twice on our stay and each meal easily exceeded our experience at solstice in both food and service quality. I almost feel bad writing this review as we had an amazing time during the rest of our stay, great skiing, beyond expectation accommodations, and comfort at this hotel. My partner and I stayed at The Lodge at Spruce Peak over the New Year holiday and ate all our meals at Solstice. First, I would like to say the food and service was great but one of our meals was the Chefs Choice, which was a 5 course wine pairing. Chef Justine delivered an outstanding experience for us, every course was delicious and unique, he truly has a talent and hope he continues on this career path. This weekend in Stowe VT is my Anniversary. My boyfriend planned this restaurant to go to in Stowe for our first night here. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 star instead of a 3.5 was because of our waitress Jen she is a fellow Bostonian and she was nice person. We had appetizers of lamb lollipops and they were so good. They really did not have a lot of food options, which I am used too but I end up getting the salmon dish which was ok. The sides options are very limited and the only options I decided to get the side of parmesan truffle fries. I did like that the gave a glass of rose glass of wine for our Anniversary. read more

Ate at this restaurant for breakfast and dinner and both were amazing. The morning we had breakfast, they didn't have the strawberry purée for the mimosa which was not a big deal we order a regular one and they filled them to the brim. I wanted something on the menu to eat and they didn't have it so I got the avocado breakfast bowl (can't remember the actual name) IT WAS AMAZING. The server we got was also phenomenal, recommend we go up on the gondola even though it was a rainy morning which was awesome because we wouldn't have, then because they were out of two things we wanted to order he took our drinks off our tab! The service was terrible. We went to the restaurant for dinner. Even though we made a reservation, we waited at host station for 15 minutes and the hostess completely ignored us. It took a long time for our dinner to be served, in the mean time, they never served us bread that was served to the other tables. During dinner, no staff ever stopped to refill water galsses while they are filling water for the table next to us. Our waitress passed our table repeatedly but just completely ignored us. The next morning we ordered room service for breakfast. It took a long time for anyone to answer the phone. When they finally picked up the phone, they never asked what type of toasts and breakfast meat I want. The room service staff called back twice to ask type of toasts and how eggs to be cooked. But when it was delivered, there were no toast or potatoes. I called room service back to request these missing items. The woman keep questioning what I ordered and said she will investigate instead just said we will delivere. It took another 20 minutes to get these missing items. When they are delivered, it was cold. Even though the food is overpriced, $50 for two breakfast entries, I can understand the resort prices. But there is no excuses for the poor services. read more

The bad: Being the only full restaurant in a 5 star hotel, Solstice, unfortunately, does not live up the 5 star standard. The food selection for breakfast buffet is quite limited and, I have to say, unremarkable. A la carte orders take too long to arrive. The dinner menu, although still limited, is more interesting. We would recommend the arugula salad and short ribs (we enjoyed the presentation and taste). But, again, the wait was quite long although the restaurant did not appear very busy. To me, this was our best meal in Stowe, hands down. Gourmet, fresh, and local - the perfect trifecta for me and my wife. We started with a delicious scallop crudo, which the server matched perfectly to a glass of Sauvignon blanc. The roasted beet and local chevre salad was amazing, and also paired just right with another white wine. For entrees, my wife had the lamb loin - succulent, tender slices of lean lamb, dressed with a berry-type glaze. It absolutely melted in our mouths, and might be the best lamb we have ever had. The duck breast, sliced, was dead on perfect. The kitchen and the waiter both nailed it - again, both red wines matched perfectly. Desert was 5 cheeses and condiments, including a local honeycomb. Eating that with the bleu cheese was heaven. The service was professional and well paced, and the food and wine spot on delicious. This place lived up to the hype. read more

After eating from this menu a few times while at the Lodge (not my choice) I can say that this place is not great, particularly for a vegan. I feel that when paying this much for food, the chef should be of a caliber that can find ways to accommodate dietary restrictions without compromising flavor. I hate to sound stuffy, but think about it - the first night I ordered a pizza without cheese, and the crust and sauce were bland and had a store-bought taste and texture. The pizza was supposed to have arugula but came with just a sprinkling of leaves. Whether or not the cheese was missing, the crust, sauce and toppings should be flavorful. My other experiences included a salad that was chock full of dried cranberries and not much else, and "crispy" fries that were waffled and tasted double-fried, old and chewy. I can't believe they use these things for poutine. That is sacrilege. It may have been due to the heightened holiday season, but service was very slow and uneducated about the menu. Comparing other non-vegan dishes with the service, I can also say that the quality does not warrant the price. read more

Went here last night for our anniversary and did the Chef's Table. What a unique and special experience. Tim did a great job and made the experience even more memorable. The food was delish and because we aren't big wine drinkers they made us cocktails. Each one was specially paired with the dishes. The flavors were wonderful! Made reservations in advance...told them we are celebrating a big birthday (it was only 2 of us) I asked them to do something special but not corny (no clapping and singing) and that i dont mind paying for it. Solstice on Spruce Mountain has been a lunch go-to for the fam and I since we've been coming to Stowe together. We usually hit it around 11:30 am, as anytime AFTER that, you're gonna be waiting for QUITE a while. Solstice is a great place for lunch. Their menu is great, and the view of Mansfield from the huge windows is always nice to dine next to. Our favorites are definitely: -The wings (order them "wet," they're delicious; top 5 of all-time for me) -Flat bread pizzas (Classic is delicious and consistent) They also give a generous glass of bourbon when you order, which is ALWAYS a plus. Solstice is a beautiful space with an open kitchen / you can see the flames leaping. 2) Service: The staff was very friendly, accommodating, made nice conversation, and just was very pleasant. The restaurant is in a beautiful location. Unfortunately the food does not live up to it. My husband ordered the prime rib special medium rare and when it was served to him it was grey. It should have never been served to him. So then they offered him a ribeye and he asked for it med rare. When it was served it was black and blue. I went there with my boyfriend for an anniversary trip and we thought the food and service is only ok for a supposedly "fine-dining restaurant that earned a AAA four diamond distinction. STAY WAY FROM THE STEAK--Service was good, slow but engaging. Food was terrible. I ordered a $15 kale salad, and add steak for $10, when my food came, it was a small amount of kale with the worst meat I've ever tasted, it was over cooked, and the outside was basically charcoal. My husband got steak frites, MED rate, the meat was. Basically raw, we sent both back, in an attempt to make it better, they brought us the meals back and they were gross I took a bit, the steak was super chewy and still burnt.. YUCK read more

WAY over priced. Staying at the lodge and nothing is special about the food but convenience. We just had breakfast and it was so over priced and nothing special and not that good. (Same with dinner menu). Soft potatoes under seasoned and not that many of them. Standard bread. Would not recommend any one eat here. Normally price isn't a factor but it just is here. For everything simple it just is simply overpriced. You would think they would have better pricing so more people would come here because it is not a high end Michelin place. Not bad, but not quite worth the price. VT cuisine has a lot to offer, and they cover about half. The room and open kitchen is beautiful. And the resort is a bit of a drive from other Stowe options. I can't put my finger on it, but I just wish they would do something to make it a tad more special. I can see how tourists might find the emphasis on VT "buy local" to be unique, but for those of us who live here, we have a dozen great restaurants who do this just as well and halt to 2/3rds the price. For instance, drive to Waterbury for Hen In The Woods or to Richmond for The Kitchen Table. Same (maybe better?) localvore flavor, at much less the price. read more

This dining experience was the worst I have a had in a long time. We were a party of 4 adults and 3 children on an off season night with maybe 3 or 4 other tables in the entire restaurant. The biggest mistake we made was not leaving after 5 minutes being there. We were seated straight away and the waiter came over to get drink orders and tell us about the specials of the evening. There was a halibut special, a roast chicken special and a ribeye steak special for $90 and change. $90 for a ribeye? Anyway, he said those were the offerings in addition to the menu and then he disappeared. After 10 minutes we finally had to get up and go find him and ask for menus!! He kind of apologized and said that someone else was supposed to have brought us menus. When the menus were delivered, I thought that they must have brought us the lunch, bar menu by mistake. Nope, this menu, printed on one sheet of paper, was the dinner menu. This place, in an enormous, beautiful building, located on presumably one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in Vermont, has a complete dinner menu printed on a single piece of paper. I felt like we were at a waffle house and the menu was printed on the paper place mat. The wine menu, which was a very extensive menu, bound in a proper menu book was much more impressive than the dinner menu. In posting this review, I am having trouble locating the diner menu online. lol.. what does that tell you? The wine menu is readily available as is the breakfast menu on several sites, but no dinner menu. I ordered the chicken nachos, my wife ordered the shrimp tacos, my father in law ordered a ceasar salad and my mother in law had the halibut special. For the kids we ordered a child's plate with an assortment of vegetables, fruit and grilled chicken and a fruit plate with yogurt. When the food was finally delivered, it looked nice, but ended with that. The chicken on the nachos was some kind of brown, stringy shredded mystery meat, the shrimp in the tacos was cold and rubbery, the caesar salad was barely average in quality and small and the halibut special was a single piece of dried fish sitting in the middle of a plate. The sauce that usually accompanied the fish was requested on the side, but was nowhere to be seen. The avocado requested on the tacos was evidently hanging out with the creme fresh that was supposed to be on the fish because it was not there either. The yogurt served with the fruit from the kids menu was plain greek yogurt. Have you ever tried to feed plain greek yogurt to a 3 year old? The only dish served that was was nice in presentation and in taste was the child's assortment of grilled chicken, vegetables and fruit. I was wondering how they could make such a nice piece of grilled chicken for a 2 year old when I had the brown shredded mystery chicken on my nachos. Well after a dismal dinner, we had a birthday cake, which we brought from an outside bakery, delivered to the table. The cake was awesome! A lemon cake with fresh whipped cream and lemon zest that was light and refreshing. The only part Solstice played in the cake was the delivery, and oh yes, the plating charge!! Are you kidding me, after what we just went through, you are hitting us with a plate fee? Evidently when you pay a plate fee at Solstice that doesn't include forks because those weren't brought to the table either. Once again the waiter said that someone else was supposed to deliver the forks. I almost forgot, that during the entire meal, some guy's whole job is to stand in front of the kitchen, which is open to the restaurant, and yell all the orders to the chef's that are standing 3 feet away from him. No nice quiet dinner served at Solstice. My 2 and 3 year old kids made less noise than he did. I highly suggest that you avoid this place. With so many other wonderful dining options in Stowe, Solstice surely only survives because of its location. So unless you are fond of paper menus and brown mystery meat, explore other options while on vacation in Stowe. If you indeed like paper menus and mystery meat, I am sure there is a waffle house close by. read more
