I work upstairs and I felt I owed it to my fatass to get a salad, but maybe I chose the wrong salad... Or maybe it was a good salad if I just swapped out the salmon... Upon opening it up I noticed two things, the salmon was chopped up and not whole as pictured, nor as how it is in-store which immediately triggered my brain to think they were trying to stretch the salmon they had left and gave me less for the $22 I spent. Second, the salad looked dry as it had very little to no dressing (luckily I had asked for a side) I wish I had more dressing to mask the extra fishiness of the salmon. I wasn't extremely happy nor extremely disappointed but I definitely didn't finish it; it wasn't "devourable" for reasons mentioned above but it was also a very large salad; I would love the option to pay $11 for half the size salad but maybe I'd go back and order one with chicken... we'll see. The staff was okay and the place is bright and clean. All that being said, I did go back, I added spicy chicken to the strawberry salad and it was pretty decent. They moved three doors down (not a reference to the band) between these two experiences and I dnno, I'd sooner get carbs from the bagel place that took their spot when they moved. My most recent was the Salmon Superfood Salad, and it is probably my favorite. The salmon was fresh, flakey, and juicy. They offer a slice of bread with the salad, but I declined and then regretted it. There is an enormous number of selections to choose from to make the perfect salad you are craving. It was slightly annoying how there's a "premium" section of sides all of which cost extra. But overall I enjoyed my meal and I did not have to walk far. The restaurant is a modern looking establishment with mostly an off-white color scheme. There is bar style seating along the walls but really, this place is much more geared towards take out. Soma's menu is relatively simple: make your own salad or choose from their set of preset salads. Being a new customer, I decided to try the Sesame Crunch which consists of mixed greens, romaine, herb roasted chicken breast, avocado, shredded carrots, purple cabbage, mandarin oranges, sesame seeds, unsalted cashews, ramen noodle crunch with sesame ginger dressing. The salad is a really good size, much akin to the Just Salad bowls of the past. The ingredients are all nice and tasty and this salad has a beautiful blend of textures. To date it is my favorite salad but the "Fall Favorite" featuring Arugula, quinoa, roasted butternut squash, crumbled goat cheese, Granny Smith apples, craisins, toasted pecans, toasted pumpkin seeds and balsamic vinaigrette is in second place. The service here is great. Each time I've ordered in store, the folks making the salads have been great, though if you order anything with meat like their salmon keep an eye on which pieces they put in your salad. Now and then they'll pick a kind of tiny piece when there isa perfectly good (and larger) piece next to it. I have also ordered in advance via Grubhub and those times my salads were actually ready ahead of schedule! The warm moist chicken is generous as well as the avocados which cost a fortune these days. Quinoa, slivered almonds, chopped tomatoes, flakes of parmesan cheese and spinach leaves all tossed in their garlicky pesto dressing. I can't get over how much food is in this bowl. Unfortunately I can't take it into MSG because this is for more than one sitting. I saw all the good reviews, so I decided to go during my lunch break. It was genuinely a big waste of my money the bowl was pretty awful and gave me a headache which never has happened to me before. Also, the cross contamination of food was crazy. They had food all over the counter, and mixed into other ingredients (ex. carrots in the onion container or mushrooms in the beets container) which honestly would suck for anyone who is allergic to something.
