I ordered take out from here the last time I was in town and was pleasantly surprised. For quick, snack-y dinner, my friend and I shared the charcuterie platter ($19). The charcuterie platter is generously stacked with artisanal meats, cheeses, and various other accompanying accoutrements - pickles, seasoned tomatoes, grapes, olives, nuts! It comes with sliced baguette with some jammy jams. We also had the shrimp tacos ($12 for 2). The tacos are heaped with perfectly seasoned grilled shrimp and topped with pineapple pico, bako sauce, cabbage + cilantro on a flour tortilla. These were great. From what I gather, Sonder is a place you go for something a little different from your usual Bakersfield fare. The menu is extensive with a little something for everyone. Ate here on Friday night for my birthday. It was a party of 11 and we were on the patio. I've been here before and love the ambience, the decor, the patio and the food! That being said I noticed the prices have increased substantially along with the items on the menu. Understandable given the times but some seem a little outrageous. That being said, our server made us uncomfortable, embarrassed us in front of other customers, was not prepared, slow, lacked communication, and overall had an unfriendly and bad attitude. Immediately after I greeted my friends after they said surprise the server that was blonde I don't know her name came to the table, did not say hi but began the conversation with saying "will all these be on separate checks" I said yes, she gave us a angry disgusted look and said that's gonna be very difficult and continued to go on and on until one of our group said she would pay for everything And everyone could Venmo her. We began to order appetizers and waited a long time for them. They were brought out and no serving plates were given ahead of time and half of us did not have silverware. We waited a while for those. Food came out a good time after and my only complaint is my rice pilaf was burnt but I was too full to care. I have worked in food service for 12 years. I am now a nurse. My whole working career I have been in customer service and I know people have off nights, but her attitude and lack of customer service seemed to be just this woman. I wanted a different server but I didn't want to take away from the night. The rest of the staff that filled waters and brought us things our server didn't were amazing. Thank you to them. I went here for the first time as part of a larger group. We made the reservations for a specific time and were happy to wait in the small waiting area for the tables to be ready. Nearly an hour later, we were moving around to avoid the live band that was trying to set up right in front of the waiting area, still waiting on our tables. Once we were seated, we were impressed by the menu and drink menu as well. I ordered something that was supposed to come with a dried strawberry garnish and something like a mint immersion. What I received was a poor-tasting drink with nothing in or on it. I asked the waitress if I got the wrong drink and she said it was premade in a pitcher so it was just missing the topping. I pointed out there was supposed to be mint (or whatever the herb was) and she just stared at me. Normally, this would be enough to put me off a restaurant entirely, but my friends' drinks were all really good! We all ordered appetizers and we enjoyed all the food we got. When my meal came, I was happy to taste a spiced beef stroganoff that was too good to be real! My husband kept stealing some of my food and my friends said they were very happy with their meals but next time they were also getting the beef stroganoff! All the food was delicious, I just wish the staff had been prepared for our party, especially since we made a reservation well in advance. I would also caution customers not to order drinks off the special drink menu, since there will be no offer to fix them if they're not as described. Sorry I don't have many pictures! Friday afternoon and decide to give a try to Sonder with my young adults kids. Very nice atmosphere. Fast sitting. Very nice outside area with fire pit and very comfortable sitting areas and heating lamps also. We decide to sit inside where you can have different options too, from high chair to sofas and regular size table. Waiters was very friendly and fast service. I ordered a very tasty Philly cheesesteaks sandwich it comes with your side option I choose fries. Also comes with A slice of pickle. my daughter ordered a Nacho plate that it was very big it a very good option for a sharing because it's really big for one person. She really likes the cheese, it was different from a regular nacho cheese. My son ordered a Hot Mess Burger and it was pretty big also but he also enjoyed it. This place is way way overrated. I do not get it. Yes, it's cute inside. But does that does not justify the pricey and sucky food. The service could've been better as well. My favorite part of the evening was the burrata. I could go with eating that all night. Burrata is a special cheese made of mozzarella and cream. I absolutely love the vibe of this place. We ate at the patio and I while it was a cold day, it was comfortable with the heat lamps on. I love the chicken fried steak that I ordered and it was perfect for brunch. My daughter got the Sonder burger and of course, I had to try hers, too. It was well-cooked although I found the burger a little too salty for my taste. The staff were a little bit busy on Saturday at lunch time so there was a bit of a wait. I am not sure if it was a normal wait time but we were close to asking the waiter to follow up our order. I really wanted to give Sonder a 5/5. The food was really good. The service was okay, plenty of times I had to repeat myself. The ambience was a little loud for me. There were big parties ahead of me so I understand the wait time for the food. However, what I didn't like was waiting 20 minutes for a tab and not once did our server asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. When I went up to the host to let her know that I understand that there are bigger parties to attend to and that we wanted to just pay and go she did reply with "well that is not on me, it's in your server" she quickly walked away. Stepping into this place, it was full of energy inside and outside. We chose the patio and it was packed (noon for Sunday Brunch). The food was good, all I needed was a little salt on the hash browns. I would get the country potatoes next time because they were seasoned to perfection and scrumptious. Sonder is a pretty little place with an inviting ambiance. I've come twice; once for lunch with the ladies and once for a date night. Lunch was bright and lovely. My party was seated on the patio on a beautiful spring day. I ordered the bruschetta plate & lavender martini. When the food was served, it was incredibly beautiful, colorful, and aesthetically pleasurable all around. The salads were vibrant and plentiful. My bruschetta was very tasty and had some nice flavor combinations. My martini was so on point that I followed up with another. Wasnt too stoked on how much my bill was for this but whatever. Our server during lunch was quiet but pretty friendly and attentive. Date night wasn't as good as an experience, unfortunately. It was loud, crowded and overwhelming. We were greeted and sat at a table that felt smack dab in the middle of the room in the most awkward way. The girl who sat us was NOT friendly. Not even a smile. She showed us to the table and whisked away to reprimand another server without a word to us. I was very turned off by this. It was 5-10 minutes before anyone returned to take our drink order. Once the server did come back, she was a smidge more pleasant and the rest of the evening went fine. The food was good, but not superb as I hardly remember what my date and I ordered. The tab was way larger than our enjoyment. For this reason, I am not too interested in coming back. I didn't hate Sonder, but I really didn't love it either. Wonder has a very cool and a bit more modern of an environment. It is very unassuming, as it's decor is fairly minimal in nature. When we went it wasn't at all busy for a Saturday night. We were seated right away and there were plenty of open tables-especially good seating for large groups. We ordered the Ahi as an appetizer and the wasabi cream sauce it came with was delish. It was a great portion for two. I ordered the salmon and my husband had the filet. The fries with the filet were amazing with great crunch. My salmon was a bit busy with pesto, cheese, tomato, and greens on top but overall a great portion and the side of veggies which was zucchini and onions was tasty. For drinks we had the La Playa Margarita which isn't your typically drink as it's not rimmed with salt but rather has a very salty foam instead-wasn't what we are expecting and probably wouldn't order again. The white wine Sangria was really good though. Overall we would return as the menu does have some other options we would like to try. read more

Let me start off with the drinks are normally really good here, But the service has always been slow and bad. We still come because the drinks and the food are always satisfying. Today's, service was horrible. 23 minutes waiting once we were sat down... and nothing. Not a quick second for the waiter or waitress to get waters going, or even an acknowledgement. 1 waiter and 3 waitresses passed our two person table they would look but nothing. We shouldn't have to wait almost 30 mins for a simple hello before spending $70-100 on our future meal and drinks. Service beyond poor. A simple "i'll be with you in a few minutes" would have been better, but it was the fact that there was no acknowledgement made at all that made my husband and I walk out. Be better Sonders. Even the host wasn't friendly, he took us to our table and just placed the menu on it and left without even taking a glance at us, mind you the table was missing seats and my husband had to rearrange it so we could sit down. Your competitor Old River Grill always has the best service, even at their busiest the waiters still have a second to let us know they'll be back to get to us eventually. I asked the waitress too if it's common and she said their gravy definitely is on the saltier side and it tends to be a hot or miss so just beware. The chef cooks with delightful abandon, utilizing fresh ingredients and a love of interesting flavors. My choices included the 007 (Vesper Goat Cheese, Lavender Oil, Olive Tapenade, Sorrel), Smoked (Smoked Salmon, Dill Creme, Pickled Red Onions, Arugula), OG (Sliced Roma Tomatoes, Fresh Basil, Balsamic Reduction, Parmesan, EVOO), and "Sweet" (Brie, Green Apple, Fig Jam, Arugula). A base of rustic bread provided the body for the delicate toppings. Tasty in its own right, but light in texture. I'd also enjoy it lightly toasted with butter or dipped in olive oil. Dear Hubby went for the Piggie Smalls, with roasted pork belly on fresh sourdough, with avocado and roasted tomato. He let me try it. Serious yum! Our server was a dream. Sonder is such a cute restaurant that I think is over looked if you're not from that side of town. We came today to celebrate a birthday and had the absolute best time. Celeste was our waitress and was so so awesome! The food was delicious and the service was great. We opted for bottomless mimosas and were not disappointed. Our glasses were filled promptly and we never had to ask for anything as our server was very attentive. We will definitely be coming back! We celebrated my six year work anniversary at Sonder and it was absolutely delicious. We were greeted and seated immediately in their cozy outdoor patio and offered drink options. We were just in time for Happy Hour so I ordered a Lavender Lemon Drop and the girls sampled the Sangria. We ordered a bruschetta board and as soon as that arrived we descended upon it so quickly that I didn't get a picture. Everything was fresh and savory. Just the right start to take the edge off of our hunger and get us excited for our main courses. Our waitress was training a new employee but our service did not suffer. They were both very helpful and attentive and anticipated our every need. Conversation flowed and the staff lit the heaters to keep us warm as the sun started to set. Our main entrees arrived and we were quiet for a few minutes while we tasted everything. Victorias chopped Cobb salad was very crisp and plentiful. Ingredients were a beautiful combination of color, flavor, and texture. Ruby opted for chicken tacos which she said were very flavorful. The meat was cooked to perfection, seasoned and moist. Patricia opted for comfort food...fried chicken...which arrived steaming hot and crispy. The herbs and spices made everyone's mouths water. The garlic mashed potatoes ladled with brown gravy, fresh cole slaw, and piping hot buttermilk (?) biscuits completed the meal to perfection. Now let's get started on my charcuterie board. Normally served as an appetizer, I love a good charcuterie board as my main meal. The wooden carving board came laden with brioche, Brie and other cheeses, a selection of meats, dried apricots and figs, tomatoes drizzled with basalmic vinegar, fresh grapes, a great combination of mixed salted nuts (including macadamia and cashews...my favorites!), and fresh made fig preserves and apricot preserves. I was in culinary heaven. We talked and ate and ate some more. Our wait staff was awesome, always on hand to check on us and quickly fulfilled any requests. The food was fresh and plentiful. I actually took home 2/3 of my charcuterie board and my family nibbled from it for two days following. I highly recommend for a casual meal with colleagues, friends, or family. Food is good but service is awful! I had gone a few times with friends and told my husband several times I wanted him to go check it out. A friend (and previous coworker) was playing in a band so my husband said he'd go. We get there and are told there's a 5-10 minute wait so we went to the bar area. We stood at the end of the bar and a regular customer showed up and it was obvious he was annoyed we were in his area. He made a gesture to the manager reflecting his annoyance. After a 10 minute wait, I asked the greeter if we could sit at an empty table close by the music to watch our friend sing. We were told they needed to check with the server for that area cause they were busy. They ended up sitting us in the back area by the wall far away from music area and lo and behold, the same server that tended to us was also tending to the people that were now sitting at that table that was empty earlier. Post Bakersfield half marathon meal and was really looking forward to it. Overall it was a disappointment. The highlight of the meal was the Bloody Mary's, I was very excited to get one after the race and they are worth coming back for. I had both a regular and spicy one and enjoyed the spice level. I had the hangover burger and thought it was flavorful, juicy and worth getting. The patty's were a little overcooked but with the sunny side up eggs you did not notice. The breakfast burrito was a different story...sadly the gas station down the street makes betters one for less than half the price. The most disappointing part was the service. It was slow overall and our server missed several requests. My wife asked for a straw for her drink and it did not come till much later after I asked a second time. This is a spacious spot with an outdoor patio, bar area, and indoor booth and table areas. Appetizer was a generous buratta paired with gorgeous tomatoes and a light baguette. Highly recommend! Entree was a perfectly cooked ribeye with herb butter - so much flavor and so tender. Two sides of your choice are included - I chose mashed potatoes and the house salad with ranch. If I could change anything I would've preferred the salad served prior to the steak. Desserts were decent but not noteworthy, so I'd pass in the future. Came in on a surprisingly non - busy Sunday afternoon. I was craving fried chicken all day but none of the frozen crap in most places and Sonder was the only place my girlfriend wanted to go. Experience: Service was a bit non-attentive. Waitress would periodically check in but can tell they were spreading her thin and it wasn't that busy. Food: I will not be ordering this again. I've had better experiences with steaks and burgers here but this fried chicken was a complete let down. I ordered the spicy version and the only difference was the spicy seasoning added after frying. Most places with let the chicken marinate in buttermilk and spice as you would expect in traditional fried chicken restaurants. Standard biscuit that was okay and the butter mixed with honey saved my meal. No salt on the table for my full mashed potatoes. I don't think I'd be visiting this place again anytime soon.
