I had the good fortune and good timing to be at the Grand Opening of newest Sonic Drive In to invade the Portland area. It was all shiny and had that "new Sonic" smell to it. The drive thru was still bright white concrete, no burn out marks or oil slicks. Employees were everywhere, on foot, on roller-skates and standing directing traffic. It was rather exciting in a weird, chain fast food place way. I defy even the most cynical anti-chain persons to not find something they enjoy at a Sonic Drive In. For nothing more than the drink selection alone I would gladly detour a few miles out of my way. The burgers are above average, the special sandwiches are indeed special, some even on Texas Toast. Best part is, you can choose fries or tater tots. Go for the tots. I like the idea of there being a cheap lunch option that feels so out of the ordinary. I like that I am yet to see a disgusting bathroom at a Sonic (except for one time in Deming, New Mexico, but I hate Deming!). I like having a lot of choices. I like Sonic. read more

This location has horrible customer service & their machines are "broken", according to staff. Placed a mobile order for 3 drinks, no food & parked in a stall. I set the mobile order to the stall we were parked in and proceeded to wait for 10 minutes before pushing the red button. We then waited ANOTHER 10 minutes for them to answer the machine just to say their stalls are closed and I need to go through the drive thru. We went around & no one responded to us or the people in front of us at the speaker, we both pulled forward without ordering as we didn't receive any greeting or answer for 3-5 minutes. When we finally got to the window, they told us that we needed to go back around & place the order at the speaker. I explained it was just three drinks & there was no response at the speaker, same as the person in front of me. I also explained my issue at the stall, the wait and non-response. She was visibly annoyed, was being very short & rude from the beginning. She then looked for my order after I explained & said it's not in their system but the stall that I checked in on still had my name on the screen and said "in the kitchen", that's when she mentioned the stalls were broken(?) and said that she couldn't do anything for me. I said "I already paid for the order, I have the receipt and bank transaction, it even says my name on stall 17 still. What do you want me to do?" She replies in a very disrespectful tone "what do you want ME to do?" So I said "I want you to make the drinks that I paid for." To which she rolled her eyes then made them. When handing them to me, she told me the manager said I was no longer allowed at the location because I was "disrespecting the employees". I was clearly annoyed & not the nicest about the interaction however my attitude was only a reciprocation of her attitude from the second she opened the window. I understand being frustrated because of a long line & things going wrong with systems as an ex-fast food worker myself but the attitude from the woman at the window was extremely uncalled for & I'm especially appalled that I was asked not to come back. I grew up in Tennessee where Sonics are everywhere. So for fastish food this is one of my favorites. My husband and I came here for lunch before heading to Winco for groceries. I ordered the snack size spicy chicken bites with sweet potato tots. My husband got a chili dog and an order of the cheddar peppers. Hailing from California, I had always had the pleasure of enjoying those silly Sonic ads yet there was no Sonic around to be had. I definitely put it on a pedestal. We used to stop by one on the way home to Portland from the river in the summers, but then we moved and realized there was one right in our backyard. It became a regular thing. It was kind of a problem. I love ordering through the little box and sliding my card and being helped by servers in skates! Our regular order was 2 fire island chicken sandwiches with tots, 1 chili cheese dog, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips, berry lemonade slushie drinks, and a side of chili (for the tots). The servers always knew it was us from the side of chili and they were always super attentive and nice. It was always delish, but then one day the fire island chicken sandwich was no longer on the menu board. We still continued to order it and they made it happen even though it would take a while longer, which they would tell us in advance. We had no problem with that. One time we got home and bit into the sandwich and it had the strangest texture. The chicken meat was almost crunchy and rubbery. It totally ruined it for me. We pretty much stopped going because it freaked me out. If we go, I get a burger instead. I still miss ordering through the box, tots, and skates. I would still recommend it, but stick to the shown menu! read more

Our order was totally messed up. We ordered 3 chile cheese dogs width light onions light mustard plus a small fry. After we left the drive thru straight home. No, the carry box was not flipped or turned. Not a bit of mustard no onions & the smallest bag of empty fries EVER. One of the chili dogs had no cheese and was completely upside down They now charge $3.19 for a lousy chili cheese dog? Not from me any longer. The order took forever to complete which they gave us two coupons for buy a burger get one free. These will not be used by us. My last comment is ..... know one uses more packaging than sonic. 2/13/2020 at 8:30 pm we were denied service in the pull in station because they stated "We are only accepting drive through orders" so because I wanted to use the drive in method I was declined to even place an order. Highly unacceptable service will never go back to this location again. Will inform the school district I work in and the military partners im involved with to stay away from this location. You'll be denied service because they feel like it. I would of liked a sign stating a reasons why drive in services were not available. read more

The girl who took the order got our order wrong, and after I mentioned it they attempted to remedy the situation, but only messed up again. However, the staff and Manager, Brandon I believe his name was, were extremely courteous, kind, and fast at delivering the proper order and providing unexpected complimentary food for the mixup. Service was EXTREMELY fast, but then I realized why. Was fairly apparent that the cheeseburger had been pre-made. I ALWAYS ask for SOME type of alteration to ensure fresh burger. No tomatoes. This location has a very dirty eating area. Having to ask to get the table washed is very pathetic. Everyone that was seated outside had to ask for their table to be washed. The food use to be good but today it was horrible. The worker that brought out our food had a wrinkled shirt and had stains on the back of her pants. Made me really wonder if the person wore dirty clothes to work. Customer service should go with the employee representing the company they work for in a clean crisp environment. What I encountered today was customer service at its worst. I would think twice about eating in the eating section of this location. I would have been better off just going to the drive thru. Since I posted this review my stomach has been sick. Been not feeling well. I think I experienced food poisoning. Both me and my daughter got chili cheese fries and tots. If I could give this location 0 stars I would. Went to this location and got my 6 yr old daughter a corn dog and some tater tots because that's what she wanted. We had a 5 hour drive home, 4 hours in she has diarrhea and a few moments later she is puking. I'll save you the details but yes you got it my poor 6 year old daughter got food poising. While the food was good, they seriously messed up. I ordered a diet limeade (and verified during ordering and upon receipt that it was, indeed, supposed to be diet) and evidently received a regular limeade. Not only is that extremely dangerous for a diabetic, I'm a PREGNANT diabetic. They put my life AND my baby's life in danger, because, they were too lazy to read the order and use diet soda and, then, LIED about it when I politely asked. My glucose levels are now way too high and the "diet" limeade is the only thing I had that could have been a variable. Extremely disappointed and downright ticked off. We went to Sonic on one Saturday evening. It was my first time, so it was kinda surprised me that they don't offer indoor dining area. I know I know...it's drive in. We parked our zipcar and ordered through the machine. I don't know why but the whole process reminded me of the movie Idiocracy. Our food came out quickly and they were alright. Well, I just had the burger with tots. I also got the Grape blended frozen drink and it was fine. I just don't care much about eating in the car. It was kinda messy, uncomfortable, and unsanitary. After being a long time customer I was surprised when the policy suddenly changed to exclude patio service early in the morning. Come to find out the policy never changed. The previous morning crew who had been meeting my customer service needs were bending the rules to meet my needs. Needless to say I was unhappy when the new crew informed me of what the policy should be, but that is the policy dictated to them by corporate. They're just following rules. My first time at Sonic- I had the popcorn chicken, and a banana shake. The popcorn chicken was pretty good, about what I would expect from a fast food place. The shake though, was very good. it had real banana pieces in it, and it was ice-cream color instead of some strange yellow that people seem to think anything banana flavored should be. Not a big fan of all the Styrofoam cups, would be nice if they had some biodegradable containers. The kids: Both had been to sonic previously, and they had burgers and slushes. They give the burgers a B+ and the slushes A+. I was impressed with the price. The burgers were nice and big! read more

Where to start? The menu board in drive through printing so small no one can see from your car. Speaker with volume so low you have no idea what the people are saying. FOOD SUCKS burger dry and full of gristle would not feed it to my dog over priced slow service. Drinks are good but WAY over priced. Don't bother eating here better to just go hungry. read more

What an underwhelming night. I can't blame the restaurant, just the circumstances which led to this. Poor planning. It was Tigard High's grad night. Sonic's management didn't plan/staff well and we were waiting close to half an hour for car side service tonight. People were actually homing (rude behavior, by the way). Several people just drove away. It's a fast food joint, what can I say? If it's judged against other restaurants by fast food standards I guess it's good. They nearly always get the order wrong. Wrong size, missing condiments. Don't leave before checking your order.

It sucks. Worst sonic I've ever seen. Food was food but not satisfying at all. Fries seemed old or something. Just not fresh. Everything in the outside seating was dirty. Had a baby with us and the baby seats were moldy af. Not something a parent would put a kid in. Might have been a better experience eating in thw car but just didn't seem like it was worth half what we paid. McDonald's does a better job. read more
