I will say, the food was good. The server, Jen, was very nice. But obviously had too much to do. It was very disappointing that Management did not send somebody out to help her. There were 10 of us. It is hard for me to give a chain five stars but Sonny's earned this review. I am a native Floridian who moved away many years ago but still crave Sonny's so when I was in town I decided to have dinner. I started with the Redneck Egg Rolls and with the awesome Yelp check-in I got this appetizer for free. I didn't even know this until after I ordered and checked in just after so that was really cool. Always remember to check in because some restaurants have nice perks. The egg rolls were ridiculously good. I was not expecting too much but these things were delicious. Pulled pork, melted cheese, slaw and a side of Smokin' ranch dip. Boom! I was by myself and still almost ate the entire plate. Don't judge me :). I had the St. Louis style rib plate and I am just telling you, these things were spit on. I am very particular about my ribs and these did not disappoint. It comes with two sides so I got the slaw and the beans. I also wanted to try the potato salad so I added that. Everything on this plate was delicious. Even I was a little shocked because sometimes there is a little something wrong when you eat out but they were on their game today. Those beans are one of my favorite things at Sonny's. They have a great FLIR and pieces of smoked meat. Yum. The Cole slaw was very good, which good Cole slaw is not an easy tsk. The potato salad was creamy and the potatoes were cooked just right. Got an email from Sonny's canceling the order at 6:38 but store manager says they didn't send the email and they won't refund my money. I am absolutely baffled at the awful customer service. First, the service here is outstanding! The hostess that greeted me was polite, passed my drink order on to the server and recommended her favorite. The server was great as well. My drink stayed topped off, she was very friendly and my order came quickly. The food is the reason for the 3 stars. I had the half chicken with Mac & cheese and coleslaw. The chicken was very dry, even the dark meat. The skin was more towards bubble gum than crispy. For reference and those that eat BBQ, I ate the chicken will my hands and only used one napkin. When you walk in, you're hit with the smell of smoke. Ordinarily not what you want in a restaurant UNLESS it specializes in BBQ. I was pleasantly surprised to see smoked turkey on the menu, as it offered a low fat option and change of pace. Prices were quite reasonable, but the food fell flat. It was okay. Acceptable. Not bad, but not great. You certainly smell smoke, but you don't really taste it. Great BBQ is rich with it but my brisket and chicken were a little bland. The chicken had decent flavor on the skin, but that's as far as it went. My friend eating the turkey felt it was also bland. Brine birds before smoking to help enrich the flavor and preserve moisture. There are four sauces: original, smoky, spicy, and sweet. They're a balance of molasses and tomato based, we're talking Midwest BBQ. Problem is they weren't that distinct. It was like they took the original and added some liquid smoke, or extra sugar, or chili pepper. That's as far as the variation went. Very disappointing. Beer selection was mediocre. For a chain restaurant I expected there to be more. Even the "house beer" Sonny's Amber Ale is really just an Anheuser-Busch produced beer that was a little watery and weak on the malt. Get with local distributors to add in local craft beers. The banana pudding was a letdown. The wafers were still and added in at the end. The whipped cream was piled on to the point of excess. However the donut holes were fantastic, possibly the best thing we ate in the entire meal. That's not what you want in a BBQ place. If you want BBQ, this place is okay. Grew up eating Sonny's, but this was different. Poor service, but I don't think it was our servers fault. Management felt inconsistent for the servers. We got no silverware when we were seated. Had to get someone's attention to take our order. Had to go to the front to get our check cause no one came by cash us out for over 10 minutes. Food was good. My wife and I are in town for the night before catching a flight back home, and we were looking for places to eat. We saw Sonny's BBQ had decent reviews. So we walked there from our hotel. We were greeted at the door and immediately taken to a table... a dirty table which our greeter wipes off with a paper towel, then smeared something on the bench seat that fell off he table. Looked like a Mac n cheese noodle. Anyway, there were 4 or 5 high-top tables to choose from in the bar area, but he tried to seat us there, at a dirty table, instead. I had to ask Liz, the bartender, for a wet towel to wipe off the schmootz from the seat. She moved us to a clean high-top. Liz was great! The food was ok. Brisket was a little dry but tasted good. Pulled pork was good when I added some of their special saices that were on the table. Mac n cheese noodles were overcooked and mushy, but they still tasted good. Ribs weren't very good, in our opinion. BBQ beans were delish! The worst part of the review is that there were cobwebs and bugs trapped in the webs on all the hanging lights over the tables. Bugs flying around and crawling on the tables. This place really needs to be cleaned up. Take some pride in your establishment. The patio/outdoor area isnt a pleasant eating environment, either. However, my wife said the ladies' room was the cleanest she's seen at a restaurant in a long time. Thank goodness you have fun people like Liz. Our server, Cory was wonderful. Very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was cooked perfectly and very delicious. We both had 1/2 chicken dinner which came with 2 sides and corn bread or garlic toast. We both had the corn bread. We both took over 1/2 our meal home - planned overs as my friend calls them. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 was the hostess. I don't know what the issue was, possibly she doesn't like dogs and my friend has a service dog. But she walked us straight outside without asking if we wanted to sit outside. When we refused to sit outside, she became rude, disappeared into the kitchen and then tried to seat us in a dark corner in the bar. We also refused to sit there and asked to be seated by the window. She did allow us to sit there in the end otherwise we would have walked out. Once Cory came over everything got better. If you get the chocolate chip cookies they are huge and taste very dry 10. Corn on the cob is wet instead of kernels. (I hate when corn on the cob taste mushy) 11. Great place for Barbecue. This is located just north of the Airport on the right side of the road while travelling north on Semoran. There is a good size parking lot. Masks are required for COVID compliance. The tables were wiped down before we were seated. Good amount of spacing was provided between all groups. The utensils were prepacked in brown utensil bags. We were seated quickly. The waitress was very efficient and took our drink order while we perused the menu. We have been here several times but not since COVID began. We ordered hamburgers (theirs are excellent if you have never had them). The food came out quickly. The price was reasonable and the food was delicious. Hubby wanted Ribs so we decided on this place and it's a gem. It has a nice quiet atmosphere that we really enjoyed, our server was nice and pleasant which is a plus. The food was great only complaint was that my St Louis style ribs had a lot of fat on them and the ran out of chocolate chip cookies.
