While in Florida we needed a spot for barbecue so this was the recommended. Ummmm, not cool. They were okay and I wasn't impressed at all. Seriously it was okay. I mean, the waitress was super cool, but the food was mediocre and a dime a dozen tasting so of course I wasn't impressed. Still. It wasn't bad though, but for someone who can spot great barbecue from Chicago, this was okay. The sauces they offer are pretty good and the lemonades are good sized, but unfortunately I'm here for the barbecue and that was impressive. Today was a bit so busy day of course, since I heard they get crowded, but that should of made things of better quality and not feel so rushed when it comes to taste. My barbecue actually was a bit too cooked and therefore rendering it dry tasting. So the sauce they drenched it in, didn't really cover it up. Hmmm, regardless of the fact, I simply took 1/2 of it (of not more) home with me. And just gave it away since I wasn't impressed. Decided to take advantage of the month long anniversary discount. Turns out only two discount meals. I ordered the rib and pulled pork. Ribs over cooked, pork was loaded with fat which I left 90% on the plate. FF and coleslaw was the best of the meal. Server took as little time as possible in being a server. I've been to a Sonny's twice as we travel. Both times, I've really enjoyed the food. I've discovered it's all but impossible to find a really good pulled pork sandwich in So. FL. These were almost perfect. They were piled with tender, smoky pork without a single glob of fat. Instead of already being drowned in a sticky sweet sauce, there was a choice of four sauces on the table. All were very good. We really liked the option of having the sandwich served on garlic toast instead of a plain roll. The sandwiches were priced at less than half of what we've had to pay locally and were much better! My only quibbles with the food were that the sandwich was on the cold side and the bread could use more garlic. On the flip side, there were no quibbles about the service. It was fast and friendly. I asked for a cup of ice water to go, which was cheerfully granted. Not only that, the server brought my daughter another HUGE cup of sweet tea to take with her! We've never had that happen before! I wish that this nice little regional chain would move further south. The BBQ places around Ft. Lauderdale could use some competition. read more

Still amazing! Was about 15 minutes away, called ahead to place our family meal deal order over the phone. Once we arrived, I called back letting them know we were parked in the curbside pickup area. Within seconds our food was being brought out to us. Then we paid and we were on our way. I normally don't do chain bbq spots, but since there was a drive thru and I was in a hurry decided to stop. there were tons of options, prices were good. the chicken was dry- bbq wasn't the best. mac and cheese poorer quality then kfc, the cornbread was extra dry and beans tasted like they were from a can. I prob wont return, next time I wont be so impatient and look for a sit down bbq spot, what I can say is the young lady with the nice nails was very nice. read more

Very Disappointed!!! Got ribs and only ribs and they were horrible. Spent $40 and I think they should have fallen off the bone, instead you had to chew it off and it had very little flavor. To top it off I called it in and they said 20 minutes, and then I had to wait 30 minutes in line to pick up. Wish they would have left the ribs in the oven those 50 minutes. We have been using the drive thru at Sonny's for delicious BBQ during covid-19. We have never had a bad meal. The 2 star rating is because the cashiers at the drive-thru window wear their masks incorrectly with their nose exposed. I've eaten at several Sonny's locations in Georgia and Florida, some good and some just so-so. This one is the absolute best! Since moving to Palm Coast in July 2015, we've eaten here at least 12 times. The food and service are consistently good on each and every visit. The servers are truly excellent, friendly and attentive. The dining room is comfortable and always kept very clean. My favorite meats are the sweet and smoky St. Louis ribs, baby back ribs and pulled pork. My wife prefers the pulled pork sandwich. We've found the meats to be tender and perfectly prepared with just the right level of smoky flavor. There are four sauces on the table to please most tastes. Sonny's takes sides seriously. The helpings are are much larger than those served in a typical BBQ joint. The beans are tasty with lots of meat in the sauce. The slaw is always fresh and the fries are hot and crispy. Best of all, we have found this Sonny's to be remarkably consistent in food and service. Always good. Check the chalkboard as you enter. There's usually one brand of draft beer that's buy one get one free (currently Landshark). Yes, you can probably find a better BBQ place that's not a chain, but Sonny's does it right at very affordable prices. And I think the staff here is hard to beat. read more

Found this place on Yelp as we were traveling back from NC to FL. Glad we did. As usual, the Yelp website was a much appreciated resource while traveling (and when we are at home, too). This was worth the stop. I can keep this review brief. The pulled pork sandwich was wonderful. Smoky, tender, juicy, flavorful with pork flavor. And the sauces were on the table so you could pick the style you wanted and put on just the right amount. And on garlic bread!! Every time we arrive in Palm Coast we hit the drive thru window at Sonny's and pick up a family meal for all of us, however on this visit we actually ate at the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Food and service were excellent. I can't say the same about other Sonny BBQ's we have visits in other locations but I can say it about this one. There was a time many, many years ago when Sonny's was nothing more than smoke flavored cardboard. But we had heard that they got their stuff together and were offering some decent BBQ again. We decided to give Sonny's a go and headed out on a Tuesday evening. We haven't been inside a Sonny's in well over 20 years. Seating was quick and personable. Menu's were presented upon seating. Our waitress was quick, efficient and very bubbly. Our order consisted of The Bomb sandwich for my partner and the All-You-Can-Eat St. Louis Ribs for myself. Our sweet tea arrived fast. It wasn't too sickening sweet, or almost unsweet. Just right. According to my partner, the Bomb was freakin' amazing. I asked for a bite and was promptly told "touch my sammie and lose a finger". The Bomb was a bed of mac & cheese, with juicy chunks of brisket, fried onion things, and a bun. Sizzlin' BBQ sauce was added for effect. My partner was quite satisfied with her selection and would order it again. My ribs were pretty good. Tender and moist with a good bark. I didn't have to use much sauce which is a sign of a good pitmaster. My piggy self had 3 plates of ribs! For Florida I would say these are excellent, but back in St. Louis they would be just mediocre. But we ain't in St. Louis, Virginia. Definitely will be back for these. The sides, BBQ beans and coleslaw, were traditional BBQ joint fare, but nothing to brag about. All-in-all, very good BBQ. I want to start out with saying our waitress was great. However we came in this past Friday they were out of multiple sides. This is not the first time we have come in and they are out of items. A previous time they were out of Pork. How can a BBQ place not have pulled pork? It seems that they are not preparing enough food. We have been to this Sonnys many times and it is always same thing. Out of something. We also go to Sonnys in other towns and never have this problem. Had to order a different side because they were out of what I originally ordered. Side came 20 mins after we got our regular food. Bathrooms could use a good cleaning. Never see a manager on duty always looks like a bunch of high school kids are running the place.
