Im giving this place a 2 ONLY BECAUSE OF SERVICE They have great Thai for being in Sonora or anywhere in the area. I was there on friday night for my birthday, we sat and waited a good 30 minutes before even being approached. Finally we got to order drinks, however the women was so rude and distasteful while ordering we ended up walking out. I have been warned about the white women that works there and sure enough everything i heard was true. Her hole presents was so out of pocket. Probably the most unpleasant waitress ive ever met, they should really consider replacing her!!!!!! I would normally never write a review like this but i was soooooo incrediably disappointed because i had been really looking forward to the evening. read more

If you are craving Thai this will get the job done but good is nothing to write home about. Green curry was a bit too watery if that is possible and lacked any kind of vegetable. Noodle dish I had was sub par and lacked any substantial taste. Granted it is in a very small town it is what it is. I am half Asian, grew up in the Bay Area, and have eaten Asian food all my life. I'm also fairly picky about food needing a good amount of flavor in order for me to enjoy it. I've never had Thai food, but have always wanted to try it. Well, this place has made me a Thai food lover! My husband went here for a work lunch on Friday and liked it so much, he brought me here for lunch on Saturday! The service was excellent! We were greeted promptly, then seated. Our server brought us our menus in record time and asked if we would like something to drink. We placed our orders and again... lightening fast. She let the perfect amount of time pass before she came back and took our food order. I had the green curry dish and my husband had the Pepper Garlic Pork (for the second day in a row). The Pepper Garlic Pork came on a bed of cabbage, a side of sweet sauce for dipping, a side of white steamed rice, and a substantial amount of pork. He devoured it! My green curry chicken dish was the perfect amount of spicy, came in a bowl with a tasty curry sauce, and a side of rice. I needed another side of rice because I eat a lot of rice. :) Again, brought promptly to our table. This place is not ONLY a fantastic Thai restaurant, the service is great, the people are friendly, and the prices are reasonable (for this area). I would highly recommend this place and will be a frequent customer myself. read more

We were unexpectedly in Sonora after a semi-horrific river rafting accident and a 6 hour visit to the E.R. I wanted to put my fiancee up in a hotel so we could put off the drive home to the bay area. We stayed at the Days Inn which was awesome! The people in the E.R. recommended Sonora Thai and after getting him settled and properly medicated, I headed to Sonora Thai. I was super surprised at the number of veggie options and that they had no issues altering dishes to be completely vegan. We got the tofu and basil appetizer, which was amazing. I also got a vegan pad sew ew and panang tofu. I found some lovely splatter ware plates at Scarlet's Web and took it all up to the room. Plating everything on real plates made the day and the meal special, and took our minds off a rough day. The food was amazing. I also asked for everything extra spicy and for extra chili peppers. I was also really happy that they had brown rice. YUM! Thanks Sonora Thai for helping us change the direction of our day! read more

Love the food! Call ahead and check hours though- they are often closed in the middle of the day (3 to 5) even though their hours say 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. online. I always try to stop by when I'm in town because I LOVE the food, but was heartbroken a few trips ago when we arrived at 3:05 only to find a "Closed, back at 4:30" sign on the door. We only had a short window of time, so we had to go somewhere else to eat. This last trip, we called ahead at around 2:30 to make sure they were open before heading down there, and were told they were open til 9 but closed 3 to 5 p.m. Determined not to miss out on my favorite Sonora meal again, we raced down the hill and arrived at 2:45, only to be told that they were serving "To-go only" and couldn't seat us because of the closing 3 to 5:00 thing. Totally understandable but those hours really should be updated on their online search results so that their customers know ahead of time! Hope this review helps someone else avoid the problems we had. read more

We read the reviews and have been so excited to come here to eat. We arrived today at about 10 minutes to 3:00. We sat in a little window in the front. The server arrived and told us that essentially we needed to get our order in quickly because the kitchen was going to close at 3:00. We hurried and ordered, feeling very rushed. We both ordered the pad Thai. It arrived fast. It was a blob of noodles slathered in sauce, peanuts, and a few tablespoons of raw shredded cabbage on the side, a little tofu for me, 3 or 4 tiny pieces of pork in my sweetheart's dish. The pad Thai was bland and we were completely unimpressed. We both ordered hot tea, which came out in single cups, at $2.50 a cup. The coup de gras was when before we had even finished eating another girl rushed our check over to us and put it on our table. They did not ask if we would like anything else...A refill on tea? Dessert? Anything else? We were very disappointed in our experience at this establishment and will not be back. If you are open until 3:00 and you let us in then we should get the same good service as if we arrived any other time. If you are not willing to do that then tell us you are closed and allow us to spend our money elsewhere. read more

I have been here five or six times now and this place is so so good. The food is always great and the cost is reasonable. One experience really stands out. It was the second time I had ever been here. My girlfriend and I went in for dinner and I had the vegetarian duck which is always so good, and she tried something new (I don't even recall what it was). When she got it she clearly didn't like it, but she knew she was taking a gamble by ordering something she had never heard of before and ate a few bites of it and ate her small side salad and moved on without complaining to sharing some of mine. The waiter noticed that she clearly wasn't happy with what she had ordered and offered to replace the order with something different free of charge (completely unprompted, just did it on his own initiative). She declined and said it was fine she had a few bites and was fine. when he brought us our bill he also brought us a free desert and my girlfriends entree was not on the bill. We mentioned to him and he said "just make sure when you come back you try something else" Ha ha. We were very very pleased. I highly suggest trying this restaurant! read more

Really enjoyed the Som-Tum salad and TomKhaGai soup. This place was packed shortly after we arrived and everyone seemed excited and happy to be here. Our experience with the staff was friendly and efficient, and the only reason it gets 4 stars is because the fried rice noodles were not properly fried. The dish was enjoyable, but not the best example of drunken noodles. For a quick Yelp find at them end of a long bouldering day, we were happy with our food and would return for another meal. read more

Today was my first visit to Sonora Thai. It was fantastic !! The fresh rolls were perfect... very "fresh" ;) The flavors were great and the heat / spiciness was perfect. Foods are blow average. I had a pad thai, and it's not even close to other Thai restaurants I've been to.

Remember we are in downtown Sonora.... I've had Thai food before in the Bay Area but the freshness and quality at this restaurant was top notch. Not too heavy on the oils, great prices, I can't wait to go back. read more

The food is delicious, I've been eating here for years. That being said, today I was sitting at the front, waiting for my takeout order and was horrified. The lady that rings you up at the counter put some white gloves on and cleaned the bathroom. She came out and gave the gloves a quick little rinse in the sink where they fill the water pitchers. Then, wearing those same gloves, she proceeded to wipe down the counters and utensils and handle orders in the back. She came up to me with my order wearing those same gloves. I have to revise my earlier review after eating lunch there today. The lunch plate prices are much better: $7.95 or $8.95 for lunch that includes a small salad and platter with entree and rice. The service was much improved, air seemed more clear, and quality of the food was good. If you tried it the first week, try again. read more

We were seated very quickly. Simple menu which makes selection easier. The quality was ok. The extra hot spice level did not leave to its mark. Had to request for the spice rack. The chili powder was almost over so we asked if we could have more. The waiter did a stingy refill and barely did the refill. Chicken was very hard and dry. The food itself was just ok. The curry had a different flavor to it that I didn't much care for. I wouldn't bother going back when there are other restaurants with great food nearby. The service was terribly slow -- it took 5 minutes before anyone even brought a menu to my table and another 7 minutes before someone showed up to take my order. I finally had food 30 minutes after arriving. The chairs were very uncomfortable to the point I asked for to go boxes after eating only a little. The people at the next table had to chase after the waitress to get their check paid. It wasn't overly busy and there were three waitresses working. read more

Found a restaurant my whole family loves! The service was great and the food was even better. My husband thinks this place is a gem. The food was delicious, vegetarian friendly. Everything was great UNTIL we found a black hair in our food. Without wanting to make a scene we discreetly took it up to the server, she then said something that we could not understand but we assumed they were going to make us a new plate, we only ate about 2 bites. Then 10 minutes later they brought us the check with the plate taken off. Since we didnt get to eat much and since we enjoyed the food so much, my husband asked for a half order of what we had ordered in the first place, they wouldnt make it for us and that was the end of that.
