Southern Kitchen is my go to breakfast spot! The staff is super friendly and very attentive. The food portions are decently big so you will definitely get full with what you decide to order. We ended up ordering the croissant with sausage patties accompanied by hash browns. We also ordered the southern style breakfast accompanied by biscuits and gravy. Both breakfast plates were delicious! Lastly, they will be moving locations(new address on the picture) which means they will be having a bigger space to accommodate more people! The rating is because the server was very attentive and the chef cooked the food the way we ordered....note they do charge to share a meal. BUT...the food had no flavor I am only speaking for what I ordered T-Bone steak and eggs, I substituted the potatoes for grits. The steak and grits were flavorless, grits were thicker than what I like but were cooked all the way, we had to add salt and pepper to everything on our plate. someone in my party said the country potatoes were ok and had some seasoning. The coffee was GREAT, they offered flavored creamer (French vanilla and hazelnut). I ordered their Bacon Cheeseburger w/ 2 slices of cheese ( American & Swiss ) with fríes, and s Coke as a beverage. Most Coca-Cola found in restaurants is sub-par and watered down but. it this one. This one is actually McDonald's quality ( meaning it is EXCELLENT ) and tastes just like it. My Bacon Cheeseburger was a full quarter-pound and chock-full of fresh, right from the field ingredients. The meat was of high-quality, so was the cheese, and the bacon was thick and crispy ( Applewood, I believe ). I am used to eating a good cheeseburger one really hit the spot with it's party-in-my-mouth deliciousness and mouthful after mouthful of every delicious morsel was a sheer delight to eat. The fries that were paired with it were golden brown, crispy and salted just right. I CAN'T WAIT to go back here again to sample their breakfast menú and see if it is as good as what I had today! I chose grits and pancakes for the sides. The omelette is good. I wasn't expecting to see 2 slices of cheese on top. I tried the cheddar cheese side, the jack side, then a piece that had both cheeses. I liked the cheddar and the mixed best. Mushrooms are canned. Grits were thick but undercooked. Pancakes seemed like they were precooked and microwaved to serve. Not sure if that's the case, but they were a little tough to cut through. I actually needed a knife. Flavor was good tho. Wasn't sure how to pay, but I was waiting for the check, and no one came with it. I went up to the counter and paid. Host/server asked me how everything was. To mention the platter included 3 fried shrimps that were decent, 3 fried scallops that were disgusting -- tasting awful, with 2 pieces of fried cod that you can find in ready to eat section in a grocery store and i literally saw box of the cod outside their plaza. The only good thing about the platter was the house potatoes, they were well seasoned but half of the potatoes were undercooked and still raw. To start...my wife and I have been coming here for 30 years! We just dropped our daughter off at the airport and thought it would be nice to revisit a place we've eaten at atleast 50 times... The waiter was nice and the chili verde omelet we ordered was godd but we're in our 60's now and just can't eat as much as we used to so we shared a 15:00 omelet. When we went up to pay the bill said the omelet was now 25.00...the waiter we had said it's an extra 10.00 to share an omelet! We were put off so much and just didn't want to cause a scene so we paid our bill... That being said, we will never again go back! That was rude and very inappropriate from them. Southern Kitchen is a small coffee shop with big flavors! It is family run, with that feel to it w/ great service and big meals. They have everything from classic breakfasts to a Mexican flare. Dk you get the best of both worlds to fill up your hearty appetite or enough to bring home for leftovers. Arrived Saturday morning and ate outdoors under their canopy they had set up. I felt safe eating outside as they set up concrete divested/barricades you would normally see on the freeway. The outdoor dining is set up in front right along side Monterey road. The wait to be seated was about 10 mins for a party of 2. No bad for not having a reservation (not sure if they do that there) I ordered the Mexican steak w/ Swedish pancakes and my girlfriend got the country fried steak w/ biscuits and gravy. The Mexican steak was ok, I was expecting something along the lines of carne asada or more flavor profile, but it was simply just steak with onions and bell peppers. I didn't taste any lime or garlic. The country fried steak was good and has always been a go to for my girlfriend. Texture is great not too much breading as some places may tend to do. Gravy was delicious on all the extra carbs you want to consume with it. Salty but not too salty and the best thing is that it's always been consistent. Swedish pancakes are delicious, but I will say that it may not be for everyone. If your expecting fluffy and airy like a a traditional pancake, this isn't it. This is more similar to a thick crepe. It's hard to describe the flavor, and would definitely recommend you try at least once. Parking here is not too bad although it's not a wide area so it may be best o drive a sedan or smaller suv, as if it's gets crowded you might encounter some difficulty turning to exit. My wife had been thinking about her wonderful Chile Verde omelette recipe from last time and wanted it again. We again sat in the outside tent. I have to say, it's noisy between the planes, trains, and automobiles. So if you decide to eat outside be forewarned. My wife ordered the same thing as last time: Chile Verde omelette and biscuits and gravy. I ordered the Monterey Road omelette with Swedish pancakes. I'm low carbing it these days so I got the cottage cheese instead of potatoes. I was really looking forward to the Monterey Road omelette. On paper, it sounded fantastic. I have to say I was disappointed. It seemed as though they skimped out on the filling. Everything was chopped up fine and there wasn't a lot of it. It supposedly had hot links in it but I tasted no spiciness at all. I tasted my wife's Chili Verde omelette and again she picked the right breakfast. It tasted very delicious. I also tasted the Swedish pancakes and they were quite good. The lingonberry butter was especially tasty. The service was especially slow. Came by to check out. Been here before when it was swamped couple of years back. My wife was with me for breakfast and saw they had a coulotte steak with eggs. I had this steak at 4th street diner, as well as Mil's Diner in Milpitas and Country Way in Fremont. A really great piece of steak. When it was served from Southern Kitchen I was in shock. Thin and mostly fat. The meat parts taste ok but it was no coulotte. The service was good but I just didn't want to tell the server how bad it was. I just ate as fast as I could and got out. My wife was laughing at me for picking the place and having a terrible piece of steak. No thanks. Next day I went to Mil's Diner and talk to the waitress there and she even say the place has gone down hill. I like my personal space and the guy sprawling out resting his arm on the top of and infringing on my side of our shared booth seat would normally set me off, but I knew what I was getting into so, as Elsa would say, I let it go. I was greeted quickly, brought my beverages, and my food came out surprisingly fast! Normally friend chicken takes a good 20-minutes, but I swear it was only took like ten minutes. I had the fried chicken breakfast with 3 eggs, hash browns and pancakes. Yes, I know that sounds like a lot of food, but that's what I was craving. We arrived around 8 am on a Sunday and 75% of the booths and tables were occupied. After ordering, we received our order within 15 mins. The portions are huge!! It looked more than 3 eggs to make the omelette. We ordered the Monterey and Supreme omelette. Both were delicious!
