Great food! Best ChickenFried Steak! Service was also great. Will definitely come back again.

This might be my new favorite place to eat. I had the home made chicken fried steak the other day and it was awesome! It came with two sides, soup or salad and choice of roll or corn bread all for a really good price. I found out they do an all you can eat catfish on Friday do I'm back to try that as well. read more

I went with a group of 5. The pork chops, catfish, chopped steak, and chicken fried steak were all excellent. The pork and chopped steak had an (in my opinion) overdose of onions. Fried cheese was good and served hot. The marinara was ok but onions again. Veggies were good. Service was fast and friendly. Entrée portions are generous and prices are good. My friend and I had brunch there. The food was good, and I would return. The server was very pleasant, and kept our coffee cups filled, which I why I ended up giving her a decent tip. But we both ordered similar omelettes, and halfway through we realized that the server gave each of us the other's meal. She didn't verify who got what. Would have been easy enough to check (as in "Southern omelette??") before setting them down. So basically this is a message to the manager --- please get your staff to correct this. read more

We took some friends this morning about 10:15 to Southern Recipes. We all ordered and after a while a person came back and told me because it was Mother's Day that I could not have grilled chicken . Mine you the section we were in had nine tables, the majority of the time we were the only table filled. I had to ask for coffee for our table and even had to bother the group of women talking by the kitchen to ask if we could please pay, With all of the restuarants in the Plano/Dallas area one would think customer service would be a little important. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times thinking there would be something worth eating eventually. It has never happened. Service is always slow. Food is always just barely edible. Our waitress last night was rude. I asked about a dish that was shown on the back of a coupon, and she said it wasn't the right night. I asked another question, and she walked off and did not return for 10 minutes. We had already waited about 15 minutes just to place our order. My husband's catfish was weird and mushy. My food was not that good either with very greasy fried okra. I felt sick as soon as I got home and also this morning. They charge tax on a full ticket and then take off for the coupon, which is illegal. Tax should not be charged on money uncollected. We are not planning on returning to this restaurant. read more

Ate breakfast here after Church. Good food, ample quantities, and decent prices. Friendly, attentive waitress. Had breakfast special and my wife had Southern omlette. Both very tasty, lots of food and well prepared. Inexpensive. read more

This restaurant has great food but absolutely the slowest service I have ever received, even in off-peak times

My co-workers and I ordered our lunch today to go. (5 orders) When I called it in the lady said it would be 15 minutes because they were not busy yet. We waited 30 min just n case. When we arrived the hostess was not at the stand to greet us, but rather sitting down at the bar. We walked to where she was sitting and asked if this was where to get the to go orders and she just shook her head. She went to the back and came back with a personal drink and sat right back down in her seat. This is my second time there and I can surely say they need a new hostess that actually knows what customer service is. Finally, after about 3-5 min, another waitress came out with our order. It was nicely packed up and ready to go. I always check my order. We were missing a few things and one order was incorrect. When we expressed to the waitress that we were missing items, she started getting frustrated. "what else do you need" , " no I put that in there", " where is my signed receipt?". Excuse me! when you get my food right, you can have your $$. She then told us they don't have chicken noodle soup today. (veg beef and clam chowder). As my co-worker thought about it, she asked the hostess to finish helping us. Ugh! We got our stuff and couldn't get out of there any faster. This place is understaffed and customer service sucks!! The food is fairly good and the prices are good. I would rather pay more $$ for great food and great customer service. IJS. read more

I ordered the shrimp pasta marinara. The smell was nauseating. I think the shrimp may've been okay but I'm pretty sure the marinara sauce had gone rancid. I took one bite, had trouble swallowing, and sent it back. I'm now waiting for a turkey sandwich which will hopefully be better. read more

We get their coupon in the mail all the time and finally we decided to try it last Friday night. The waitress said we can only choose from the Lunch special menu if we want to use the coupon and we can only choose from the Friday options. There are only 5-6 options. I ordered the sweet tea and got unsweet tea. Vegetable beef soup is like ocean water. Too salty. I ordered the corn bread and got dinner roll. One of the side dishes I ordered, corn, was rotten. I almost want to throw up. It made me sick. It seems nobody really cares. I don't think I will go there again. read more

Food was Great as usual. Service was good as usual. Restaurant looks totally awesome. We will definitely return.

Before I start my review, I want to be very clear that I have NEVER in my life ever walked out on my ticket. But I did here. I have eaten here twice before, the food is good, but the service is worse that terrible! The first time we ate here, we waited FOREVER for our food, and when we finally got it, we had no silverware! And of course our waitress was nowhere to be seen . We had to wait another 10-12 minutes just sitting there watching our food get cold until we found someone to bring us silverware to eat with. Today, was even worse! Again, no silverware, we were told they "ran out" and was cleaning some. (Really, ran out? On Valentine's Day?) we waited for nearly 45 minutes for our food. (Eggs and a waffle. Not difficult.) when I looked around the place was nearly empty, the lunch rush was over. So where was our food? We left. Will never go back. Service bad. Food was classic nasty buffet-like food, even though we ordered from a menu and paid full price. Stay away from this place!

Normally this place on our go to list - have always good waitress and food good. Last time service was just ok and I chalked it up to sometimes not always on point. Today's service poor and food just ok. Wait was long and I understand busy times and large groups but people that came in after us served food before us. You can make excuses but you serve breakfast and this is Plano - you have to account for busy times. We will not be back! Too many better food and service choices to return here. read more

My wife, my sister-in-law I went to the new Southern Recipes Cafe in Plano, TX on 12/5/2015. We got there at about 5:10 PM and were seated. A waitress came by and said she would take our drink orders and after about five minutes brought them to the table. By that time we had all decided on our entrees, but she did not take the order. We sat there with menus for about 15 minutes and no one took our order. I finally threw five dollars on the table to pay for the two soft drinks we had ordered and we left the restaurant. We really wanted to try this place, but the service was horrible. read more

This place is a gem. Have gone there several times for dinner. The food is great with a large portions. If you don't want lots of food recommend their happy hour menu. Their breakfast special is to die for. Again large portions, you may want to order one entree and split it. read more

While the food is good, the service from some of the wait staff leaves much to be desired. Management needs to hire a hostess to seat people rather than wait for a waitress to get free and to come and acknowledge that you are there and waiting for a table even thought there are empty tables available. Coffee poured once during meal and not again. Had to ask for bill, waited for it to be brought and then waited again ( and finally flagged down someone to come take payment)! read more

I'm eating here 4 different times, at 4 different times of the day. Have never been disappointed in the food, or the great service. One disappointment I have is that they cut off the breakfast menu at 11 o'clock, SHARP! I would like to try some of their breakfast items after 11. read more

I enjoy the meat portions of my meal when there, but am a bit underwhelmed with the vegetable dishes, which seems more bland than it should. On my most recent visit, though, I had the opportunity to partake in their beef stroganoff soup and it was delicious. Also, I read some reviews about poor service, but my experience has been that the service ranges from average to great depending on the amount of people there. This last time the waitress was exceptional, with timely visits to the table and prompt attention to requests. read more

Read some pretty bad reviews about this place but decided to try it anyway for breakfast. I had Ham and eggs, my wife had brk quesadillas both were outstanding. I have never had any better breakfast anywhere, also reasonably priced. To top it off Angela was friendly, very efficient and accommodating, we are going back. read more
