Horrible Experience! DO NOT USE! Beware that this company is registered in many names. This was such a horrific experience I'm still mad at it a few years later and I don't want anyone else to go through a similar experience. At first, speaking with the scheduler was so easy and she was very helpful. Even working with Will, who came out to give us the quote, he was nice and I felt comfortable using them. Then came the actual move. . .on the day of the move we were sitting to the side in the living room to be able to supervise. Right before we locked up, one of the guys swiped our cell phone battery charger, never to be seen again. A little thing to be overlooked, but I'm just getting started. The movers left all of their trash from lunch out on the curb after leaving. Again, not horrible but not great. Now we're really getting into it. The next day when our belongings were delivered, the movers backed a DIFFERENT truck up ready for unloading. EXCEPT, I was told I needed to pay an additional $1625 BEFORE they would start unloading. First I spoke to Will, then Mark, then Amir on the phone and was told again that I needed to pay in cash or Zelle before they would start unloading. They stated that the work was much more than was originally quoted and it would take them additional hours to unload. They even suggested I call family for the extra money! As I told them I didn't have that much in cash, nor was this legal or ethical, I parked my car in front of the truck so they were trapped and could not leave. I then proceeded to call the police. The police came, spoke to Mark on the phone and after some back and forth for over an hour, as the agreement stated that they accepted credit card payments, I agreed to pay the additional amount on a credit card and specifically told them that IF they did not use those additional hours, I would be disputing the credit card charges. What do you think happened then? The workers begrudgingly unloaded the stuff, lost all of the screws and nuts for the furniture, and put the furniture back together with missing pieces. After unloading I was asked to come check the truck for anything they may have missed. I got in the truck and checked it out. How can you tell if anything is missing until you unpack? Ultimately we found that our food vacuum sealer and some other smaller items were missing or broken. . . but after everything that happened that was another drop in the bucket. Of course, the movers DID NOT use the additional hours I was charged! After months of sending demand letters, I finally made a claim with the credit card company to dispute the charges. After Spartan did not respond to the credit card company, my money was refunded in full. What a headache. . . and I'm still mad about it. Why didn't I make a claim with the Better Business Bureau you ask, because at the time, we were planning on taking them to small claims court and you couldn't make a claim with BBB while there was an ongoing case. Spartan Van lines was the company I booked through a broker called City Moving. After 3 weeks of wondering where my freight was, I finally got someone to call back. My things hadn't even left the West Coast yet. They took it to Northern California to some warehouse. When I pleaded for an approximate arrival date I was asked, "Do you want me to lie to you and make up a date?" (No, I just wanted to know when to be take time off work). 35 days after the pick up, a van finally arrived -someone else's stuff. So I waited another day. Things are missing, I received things that aren't mine. Also my 110 gallon aquarium and other things are broken. I have a sofa bed in the way because the movers refused to take it upstairs. My home is full of boxes and stuffing that was left behind, even though I was told at pickup that they'd be taken away as part of the services. Been calling for five days about the missing and damaged items, but no one will return my call. Do yourself a favor and rent that U-Haul, hire people to load and unload on each end. You'll save a couple thousand and avoid major stress. This was the single worst customer experience I've ever had. I've never written a negative Yelp review before, until now. I have waited a few weeks to post this review, to make sure that my temper had settled a bit. This was by far one of the worst experiences I have had in my life. My girlfriend had used them to move from Brooklyn to LA, and all went well. We were now moving back to the East Coast, and decided to go with them again. It's clear through other recent reviews that something has gone terribly wrong in the second half of 2022. For anyone scouting moving companies, DO NOT USE SPARTAN. We are considering lawyering up, and we will be making sure that the large company my girlfriend works for cancels their contract with Spartan as soon as possible - something I hope will hurt Spartan quite a bit. We were quoted a little under $8k, and yet it ballooned to around $13k. Not to mention the several thousand more dollars we incurred with the logistical issues the move caused us. We would have been better off dumping our things in the street in LA, and starting from scratch on the East Coast. What little savings I once had, is now completely gone because of this inept, uncaring company. Unfortunately, my story is too long for the character limit, so here are the bullet points: 1. This company will ghost you at every turn, at the most pivotal moments of the move. They attempted to change our move out day on us at the last minute, which we had reserved a month in advance. Who in the world is able to accommodate such a change when they're moving all the way across the country? We didn't know for sure that they were coming on our set day, until about 2 hours before they showed up on the day. 2. The sales rep completely messed up our virtual estimate. They showed up with 2 guys on the day of the move, and told us that they had to do another full estimate. It was nearly 2 hours before they started packing up our stuff. They charged us an extra $3500 dollars for it, and told us they would just leave if we didn't like it. I think in most parts of life, this is considered extortion. We paid because we had to, and then waited 8 hours for 2 guys to move all of our stuff. A job that even they admitted should have been done with a minimum of 3 people. I felt terrible for the guys who were stuck with this. 3. They once again ghosted us on the drop off. We couldn't get a hold of anyone for weeks. There will be a stretch of time when you have absolutely no idea where your things are. I've had more reliable tracking with Uhaul pods. 4. Even though I asked multiple times for the sales rep to confirm any details about the move in location, they of course ignored me on that. So we got another delightful bill for $1000, because their truck was too big for our town.... All in all, do not use this company. Moving is stressful enough as it is. Your stuff will always get bumps and bruises. It's not easy. With that said, a company like Spartan should not be allowed to exist. Whatever is going on over there, it shouldn't be the customers (and their movers on the ground) who have to suffer the most for it. read more

PLEASE READ!!! Spartan Van Lines is completely careless. They moved my family from california to Colorado. They treated our stuff so horribly. There were countless of crushed boxes and broken furniture. BUT MUCH MUCH WORSE was that not only did they deliver our stuff in increments weeks late, they "LOST" over $6,000 worth of our stuff. A treadmill, a couch, and countless other valuables and sentimental items that are irreplaceable. They offered a dismal $900 to replace all the lost items. This company moved our things from California to Tennessee. They did not deliver everything on the manifest and are unresponsive when you contact them. The mailbox is full and I've waited 10 days for a response to my email. I was contacted by a separate number about the delivery in Tennessee via text and when I contacted that individual, he stated he no longer works for the company. I called and spoke with Jessica Banks. I gave her the information of what needed to be moved from Colorado to Kentucky. She gave me a binding estimate of $3207.96 less a payment of $899.80. I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment. The estimated volume was 501 cf (3507 lbs). This company is a broker and should give a customer the moving companies they work with; but didn't. First violation of a broker. Reggie called before the move to see if additional items needed to be added; there were two: headboard and table lamp. Here is where the rest of the fraud begins. I was told I would owe $2308.16 and need two money orders or cash. I got the money order for the move to Kentucky. On the 29th, Western Van Lines shows up. The supervisor was Sergio. He was very arrogant. He walked through my apartment and walked out the front door. Telling me he had to figure everything out and would be back. Ten minutes later he comes back and tells me I have 1150 Cf scribbled on a yellow tablet (no back up for his figures) and the cost would be $7300+. He wanted 70% upfront ($4438 and balance on delivery). I told him I couldn't afford that and was lead to believe it would be what the binding estimate stated. He was a fraud just trying to get what was not factual. I told him to leave and cancelled the pickup. I then contacted Paragon Moving and Storage who came on the 31st and after they loaded the truck came up with 640 cf. The cost was $4167 minus $295 deposit. I paid half and will pay balance on receipt. This is an honest company with young men who work very fast and efficient. A binding estimate means you can only go above 10% over the estimate. The FMCSA states a moving company can't give you a low ball figure and come in with later asking for more money or knowingly assigning a false weight to a shipment. Really great quote process. Price did not change when they arrived (and they were really flexible on boxes). I really appreciated that. The move out was very smooth. However, I am now 3 weeks after my move out, and no update on when my shipment will arrive. I have 4 more business days until my window is over, so they are not technically late. However, since they do not have my move booked, I am feeling less confident that it will arrive on time. Especially because I have been emailing for an update, and they refuse to give me an update in email or voicemail.. which makes me think they want nothing in writing (even, "we have no update). The problem is, I leave the day after the last day in my window, and if they are at all late, i get put back in the que. It could end up being 2 months without furniture and sleeping on the floor. I will update when my shipment arrives. If it arrives within the window, then this is an overall positive experience. The worst moving company there is. As another customer so well said, I would pay Spartan not to move my personal belongings. They lied, saying they were responsible and would take care of our move 100% from California all the way to Florida. Instead our things were loaded off to another truck in Texas, given to contractors from New York, then unloaded again in Florida, put into other trucks by the contractors who hired people off of Craigs List. So basically besides, badly packing our personal belongings, the rest of the job was done by hired help who were not employees of Spartan. I paid quite a high price for white glove service. Instead they packed dishes on top of each other without protection in between plates, they packed crystal lamps together without protection, they lost hardware to put beds together, they broke fragile, sentimental items that are not replaceable, our clothes in hangers, were found at the bottom of the box instead of hanging, completely wrinkled with a strange smell from wherever they stored them. And to top it off, when they delivered our belongings, they left the boxes and left. No white glove service. And it took them 6 weeks from the day I contacted them to finally deliver. They stood there not wanting to unpack until we paid the balance which we did. Thank goodness via credit card. Do not pay ever any other way. Only to find out that evening that our matresses and dining table and so much more was still missing. They then told me that they would ship the rest the following week. I couldn't believe it. Who does that? You asked for the balance without having all our items as stated in the contract. And they didn't put the essentials together! The worst part is, when I sent them pictures of the dozens of items broken, they did not even answer my email. No empathy, no apologies, no taking responsibility. FIRST OFF - look how many reviews I have written (1) and the reason is that Spartan Van Lines is such a TERRIBLE company that I needed to go onto Yelp and alert other people Spartan Van Lines in the Bay Area and small moves may be decent but anything out of state or beyond - MAKE SURE TO AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS Why? I was moving my stuff (not alot of stuff mind you) from San Francisco to Oregon a 600 mile trip. Upon them picking up my stuff which seemed normal. They give you a gap of 2-10 days where they will deliver your stuff. So what is it 2 or 10 days this can have major effects on people and where they stay and they don't know when things will be delivered - that was strange to begin with Upon my stuff being (finally) delivered, I noticed a different company that Spartan Van Lines contacting me to deliver my stuff. From what I read this is normal for trucking/logistics companies to work with other companies. Anyway, Spartan needs to do a better job on who they partner with because 3 out of the 6 items delivered were broken - My lamp, Bed Frame and several dishes and cups. That wasn't a huge deal (Sh$t happens) - the company is meant to disassemble and reassemble everything once they reach the delivery stage. WELP that didnt happen - they threw everything into the living room and made excuses that they didnt have the right supplies/tools to reassemble the items that needed to be put back together. Overall they are now doing a bad job but here is the worst part. Everything of mine got delivered but an important item that included very personal information and several other important files this never made it to my apartment POOF JUST DISAPPEARED - hmm really seems to make sense how everything made it to my apartment but one certain item. This is the type of stuff that makes me go on Yelp and take time out of my busy day to write about - check other reviews - this is not the first time something of value was missing from a delivery Also, on my "carrier" someone else lost a cabinet - hmmm makes a lot of sense. Now I need to go get Identity Theft Insurance and all other ways to protect myself because this company whether it was them or their partners leaving you to call a "customer service" line thousands of times - they don't even have customer service reps and they are scared to talk on the phone because they know they are in the wrong.. I was very nervous trying to find the right mover. Kelly came out to do an in person estimate she made me and my mom feel so comfortable she went over all questions and more. She was patience with us as this was out first move out of state in 32 years. We did 2 additional in home visits to adjust items as we purged allot. The wrapping of our furniture I was very impressed with the team. Our furniture was delivered this weekend and as there were a few broken and scared items. I think this is the correct company my husband hired to help us move. I noticed on Yelp there are about 5-6 different moving companies with the name Spartan and with similar logos. Anyway, they would have gotten 2 stars but they only get 1 stars because even though they did get our stuff to the new house, it's how they got it there... as the name suggest it was very "Spartan". We didn't have that have much stuff to move, only big items like refrigerator, washer and dryer, a bed, some shelves and maybe 15 boxes. They weren't very careful with moving the items. The boxes were just roughly put on the dolly and roughly put into the truck. We had a tv stand with shelves and they asked for a small plastic bag to put the pin holding the shelves, but they never gave us the bag with the pins so we can't put the shelves back on the stand. They could have taped the plastic bag with the stand but didn't so now I have to find some way to put back up the shelves. They did the same thing with the book shelves. We don't have the pins for the shelves. When they moved an items which had rollers on the bottom they mishandled it and the wheel popped off. They didn't even bother to pop it back in. Then there was the refrigerator. They couldn't get it through the interior door because it was wider than the door frame. So they said they had to take off the doors from the refrigerator and part of the foot stand. I kept telling them all they had to do was pop the interior door off the jam and just maneuver it from a certain angle. Of course they didn't listen to me because I was female. When they put the door back on they did a shoddy job. The refrigerator door doesn't close all the way like it used to. It stops 3/4" and I have to push it to close all the way. Now I have to call and pay a refrigerator specialist to come out and see if he can fix the problem Spartan caused. They said they could move the refrigerator and washer & dryer...don't believe them. Hire an appliance moving specialist. Someone who has experience moving appliance. Spartan didn't know what they were doing. After they left, a couple hours later I noticed some items missing from my new house. Seems they stole a pair of scissor and a lighter. Since there was so much going on and we were busy they just took items that are minor. Granted it's minor but the fact they thought it was ok to take stuff from other people. Not honest. Also, I noticed they dumped their garbage in my trash bin. Went to look and it wasn't much but there was a plastic water bottle with urine in it (it was a plastic water bottle with yellow liquid). Really?!!...you couldn't have waited until you got back to the office to dump it? Here's why they get 1 stars. As we were about to leave from the house I was moving from and with our stuff in the truck, the lead person comes to me to give me some sob story about how they don't get paid their tip because the company will withhold it or give it to them months later and if we could tip them that would be great. Seriously?!!! You're basically trying to blackmail us to give you more money, under the table, so you will take our stuff to our house even though we are paying you for your services?! So basically: 1. they are not careful with your items, 2. they will lose essential items needed for your furniture, 3. they will steal when you're not looking or paying attention, and 4. they will blackmail you for more money to get your stuff to your new location. READ ME FIRST: This review is purely for the move-out of our current place and not for the delivery. Review: Honestly, so far so good. I am quite happy with the service and the timing of everything. Due to COVID-19, I had to make a quick decision and move out of my apartment at short notice. I had called several moving companies and while they had done an estimate, I wanted to make sure I left no stone unturned. A lot of the van-lines were unable to meet such a quick turnaround. When I called Spartan, I was first connected with Colin who did an over-the-phone estimate and then offered an in-person estimate. Due to COVID-19, they offered a FaceTime estimate which I was a little apprehensive, however, when I got on the phone with Mercedes, she was immediately able to tell how large items were just over FaceTime. She quickly confirmed the estimate over the phone and that evening gave me a written quote. She also offered insurance and let me know that there was going to be a woman calling me to quote. The day-of, Miguel called me half-an-hour before the 3-man crew came to help pack the rest of my big items. The first 15 or so minutes were spent ensuring that there was nothing else that I needed to add to my list and then the chaos began. They were like a whirlwind of efficiency - quickly grabbing the boxes that I had pre-packed and then getting to the larger stuff which they wrapped with blankets and moving wrap. When they were getting the last few items wrapped, Miguel and I sat down to ensure that everything looked good. He let me know that he had room for a couple more items on the truck and that from my paperwork, I was still able to pack which I was more than happy to give him a couple more items. He went through the entire process with me of what would happen next. About 15 minutes after they left, I received another call to tell me how long it would take. They let me know that they would be in my area that I'm moving to within the next few days and asked if I would be open to getting the delivery, which I also gladly accepted. So far, my experience has been really great with Spartan Van Lines. We just did a long-distance move with Spartan Van Lines from the Bay Area to Colorado and I've been going back and forth between wanting to give 3 and 4 stars but considering how many shitty moving companies are out there I decided on 4. So first things first, the pre-move experience was mediocre. The sales lady was not very responsive, didn't send things when she said she would, they took a week to even respond after requesting a quote and then another week after her visit to send the quote and make some updates. But I guess in a way I actually preferred that over the pushy sales people at other companies I talked to. Their price was great and was barely more than a rental truck or container would have cost. They also came to our home for an in-person estimate where the price they quote is based on the inventory list and you pay exactly that as long as you bring those items. All other companies I talked to charged by cubic foot and gave me a vague number over the phone. Many of those will give you a lowball volume estimate to make the quote sound cheaper and then people end up paying a lot more than they expected because the volume ends up being more than the initial quote. So not only was the price lower than those companies to begin with, I also didn't need to fear being charged an extra grand with all my stuff already in their truck. Pick-up day was a breeze. The crew was on time. 6 guys so they were quick and loaded our 2br place into the truck in 1.5 hours. The crew lead was a nice guy and they wrapped everything fairly well as far as I could tell. Someone from the dispatch department had me confirm over the phone everything went well before the truck left which I appreciated. Then the waiting began. They gave us a 14 business day guaranteed delivery window but delivered 2 days after that window ended. I assume they wait until the last minute for other goods that go the same direction to come in and fill the truck because they weren't even able to tell us when the truck would leave until the day of. The drive and delivery was also done by a different, sub-contracted company, not Spartan themselves which I was not aware would happen. And not only that but it was just the driver, no crew, so it took him 8 hours to unload and we helped a bunch so we wouldn't be there all night (granted he had to park the truck 300 ft. away and long-carry but still a waste of our time to save them money). They did deliver everything and nothing got lost but there were a few damaged items. They did give us a generous refund that was more than they had to per the contract for the 2-day delay and damaged items which we appreciated. All in all, I think a long-distance move is just not a fun experience and rarely goes perfectly. Spartan did their best to make things right, their dispatch and customer service people were always friendly and helpful and I would say they are overall a trustworthy and decent company. read more

We are moving from California to Oregon, just 8h drive. But we already have been living without our stuff for almost a month. We agreed to guarantee delivery within 14 business days (December 17th is the last 14th day). We asked many times to confirm the delivery date and they promised that they will deliver not later than that, guarantee. On the third week of waiting, we decided to call and we realized that they will not deliver on time. And they don't even know when they will be able to deliver. They said they don't have drivers. With all the upcoming holidays, we might have to wait until mid/late January now. Two months without furniture! And If they are late, they will supposedly reimburse you 30/day (but only up to 10 days, not more than $300). If they are late even longer they don't have to give us a refund at all. Now we are trying to figure out if we can hire someone else to get our stuff from storage or maybe we can even drive back and take at least something. I was not prepared to live without my stuff for so long Getting quota and pick up was good though. Summary: If you are moving long-distance, I suggest that you look somewhere else or be prepared to wait for a couple of months. read more

If you are moving locally, Spartan may be a great option. If you are moving out of state, look elsewhere to more reliable/experienced moving companies (like Allied). The quote process with Mercedes was super easy/thorough and went great. She was super helpful throughout the entire process. The day of pickup and packing of my items in Oakland, movers arrived on time but took 9 hours to pack up my 1200 sq ft home (with 4 movers). ONLY ONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS WORE A MASK, so I decided to sit outside and wait in 90 degree heat all day. The packers did not inventory or label anything (did not realize this until the end of the day) and also packed 4 items I asked not to be packed and left 3 items that were supposed to go on the truck. I then waited a total of 31 days before my items arrived in Colorado. My items did not even leave Oakland until 3 days before that. I never received the refund for each of the days past the "16 business days" that it took for my items to get here. Also, note: if your items take longer than those 16 business days, you are only refunded $30/day for each day late. Once my items finally arrived, Spartan only sent two people to unload/reassemble everything. These two movers wore masks the whole time and did a great job. The company broke a $600 desk and numerous items are completely missing. Unpacking has been a nightmare and nothing was labeled properly and the vast majority of boxes contain items from 3-4 separate rooms in them. Fragile/expensive art items were thrown on top of books and cables, clothes were thrown in boxes randomly along with space heaters and lamps, etc. Communication after packing was horrendous/it was impossible to get updates and customer service outside of Mercedes was awful. There are far more experienced moving companies for out of state moves that you should look to. Spartan is not even the cheapest. read more

If you are moving long distance, I suggest that you look elsewhere and pay more money if you want your stuff in top condition and from a reputable company. June 2020 - I booked with Spartan Van Lines after doing thorough research on the internet, reading reviews, and gathering quotes from over 20 companies. August 3, 2020 - Spartan Van Lines picked up my items from my apartment in California (they did a wonderful job) August 26, 2020 - This was my guaranteed delivery date (LIE)! Please note that they will not send you your stuff until they have enough items to fill a huge 18-wheeler (this includes multiple families that may be moving along the route). I was told that they had many jobs on the Texas and Georgia route (well clearly that was a LIE!) I call the company on a weekly basis and they kept giving me the run around. I had gotten to the point where I was willing to have another company come get my items so they could bring me my items in a timely manner (well you guessed it, they miraculously all of a sudden had a route coming to Georgia). September 10, 2020 - I was FINALLY notified that a truck had arrived to deliver my items along the Georgia route. September 11, 2020 - The driver calls me to notify me he will be here by Monday or Tuesday and will call me the day before. September 14, 2020 - The driver calls to tell me he will be here the next day at 2:00 PM (this is great news, right???) September 15, 2020 - The driver calls to tell me he is an hour away (this is at Noon), so I leave work at 12:30 PM to head home to ensure I am there for their arrival. Well, you guessed it, I did not receive my items on this day. The driver supposedly had a minor accident that involved his gas tank leaking (this part is true and verified), as the gas leak continued at my apartment complex and the police and fire department had to be called. PLEASE NOTE THAT SPARTAN VAN LINES PARTNERS WITH RANDOM THIRD PARTY COMPANIES FOR LONG DISTANCE MOVES. THEY DO NOT SEND THEIR PEOPLE. THEY CAN ONLY WORK WITHIN CALIFORNIA!!!! I REPEAT, THEY ONLY WORK IN CALIFORNIA, SO YOUR ITEMS WILL END UP WITH A STRANGER. Ok, we are still at September 15, 2020 - Due to the truck breaking down (IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT, THEY ARE ON MY PROPERTY YOU GUYS), they did not deliver my items, instead the truck was towed with my items within the truck. September 16, 2020 - My items arrived. This part is important everyone, I called the third part company, I have no idea who the company is, as the person refused to provide their information, Spartan also did not provide the random company name, to give me an ETA on when I would receive my items. The individual had an attitude and between the random third party company and Spartan, they kept milking me for more and more and more money (typical, right???). The third party dispatcher called me a liar and told me he did not want to speak with me and will only give me my items if Spartan told him to, well I guess him and Spartan figured it out, AFTER, I paid additional fees. PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAD TO PAY A SHUTTLE FEE BECAUSE THE TRUCK BROKE DOWN, BECAUSE I HAVE PROOF THAT THE TRUCK DID FIT, even the maintenance guy on my property noted that these type of trucks come all the time for long distance moves. In addition, they wanted to charge me for stairs, I was aware of the fee, but to think that after they had my items for over a month, going on two months, they wanted to charge ME more money, instead of actually providing customer service and waiving the fee (150 for the stairs, it started out as 175...THEY MAKE UP THE NUMBERS AS THEY GO ALONG). Of course, because they said the truck would not fit, they charged an additional 295, according to their third part company, he quoted me 350, SO BE AWARE OF THE MONEY GRAB SCAM! If they are late, up to 10 days, they will supposedly reimburse you 30/day (up to 300), well I am not getting that money and neither will you, unless you live on the first floor right at the front (THEY CHARGE YOU FOR THEM HAVING TO WALK ANYWHERE OVER 75 FEET). Instead of reimbursing me the 300, they used it for the shuttle and stairs, so of course, they did not lose out on ANY MONEY! My items - Headboard for my bed, completely gone! Boxes are dented and look like they just tossed them around and did not care what you had in the box! So pack wisely if you decide to go with this company! Due to COVID, I have not had the chance to go through all of my items yet, but I will keep you guys posted if anything else is broken. Oh, and one more thing, they have random local workers come into your home to conduct the move, so again, these are NOT Spartan employees and they WILL NOT BE IN UNIFORM! Unfortunately I cannot recommend this company. Mercedes was great. Our quote was reasonable. The pick up went very well. Unfortunately the delivery process was a nightmare. Based on this I absolutely cannot recommend this company to anyone. I understand that sometimes things don't go as planned, but the lack of communication was incredibly frustrating. Here are the bullet points of what went wrong: The driver, Mike, arrived 3.5 hours late and didn't let us know he was delayed until he was already over an hour late. We were required to sign paperwork indicating everything had been delivered and made it off the truck BEFORE they would unload the truck and were told it was paperwork for the payment. Mike leaves with the truck at 11:45 PM without checking the inventory list or telling us. Later we find out at least 5 boxes are still on the truck INCLUDING the box with the hardware to put the furniture together. He wouldn't return calls from us or the other movers. He doesn't return until 7:00 PM. No one at the company is able to tell us where he is or what is going on until 4:30 PM. Apparently he left to get the truck repaired? At one point the customer service person actually transferred us to one of the movers who were there with us and just as confused as we were about what was going on. Mike left the rest of the movers stranded at our apartment complex with no food, water, or ride for 7 hours. The movers did not have a copy of the inventory list. 8 of our boxes were missing after we checked our copy of the inventory list -- 5 were found later on the truck. One was discovered to be a duplicate and never existed. Two boxes remain missing. Customer service has stopped answering our messages with respect to the two remaining boxes. My desk was dismantled and damaged when it was taken apart and the movers refused to put it back together. The customer service rep, Cheryl, informed me it was in the contract that they did not put items like this back together. But when they were packing up they specifically told me they would not put our son's crib back together. They said nothing about the desk and we were specifically told they would disassemble and reassemble furniture. So it may have been in the contract but that's not what was communicated to us. Bottom line I don't think the desk can be put back together so I will likely have to buy a new one. When the driver, Mike, finally returned I spoke with him on the phone and asked him what had been going on (I was out of town and my partner was managing the move). He was incredibly rude and then hung up on me. On a positive note the actual movers for the delivery were excellent and very helpful. We felt bad that they had been basically abandoned all day by the incredibly unprofessional and unresponsive driver. read more

Then 1/2 my items never made it and the ones that did are damaged. They will not return my calls or email. This company is completely immoral. If enough of us fill out this form the Consumer Affairs will investigate. Me I'm suing for breech of contract and negligence. They did not provide the service I paid for since 1/2 my furniture did not make the trip. It is illegal to sell a service and not provide the service paid for. These guys helped us move from CA to AZ back at the end of 2019. About 5 guys showed up and they did a good job loading. We had 1 incident when something fell out of the truck, but that was minor. Making things difficult, it was pouring rain. The stuff took about 3 weeks to arrive. The guys that delivered it here in AZ were something else. Extremely professional and polite. They did an excellent job unloading. Overall a very pleasant experience considering moving is one of the most stressful experiences right up there with divorce!! read more

I moved with this company a year ago today, right before I caught Covid I tried contacting this company because they lost my wife's wedding dress, her after wedding dress, Three of my suits including the one I got married in and a few expensive jackets. On the day of the move they bought up insurance, which they hadn't bought up prior and told me that I had to get it at their rate (which was a few cents per pound) They insured me it was just a precaution but when I asked about upgrading my insurance they said I had to do that prior to the moving date. Upon arrival, which was still a few weeks late, I began unpacking and realized immediately that they had forgotten the box, while also noticing a few things that weren't mine coming up the stairs. I sent those things back and caught the company as the movers were here, they explained to me that they will contact everybody on the route to see if my box was misplaced, Of course with it being a wedding dress in a few more expensive suits and coats in there I'm sure no one would say that my box was missing. They told me they would check around the warehouse and make the phone calls to no avail I got I received nothing.As we begin talks of insurance emails stop coming in & they stopped responding. A year later I'm still finding out that I have clothes missing and no response from the company nor their insurance. We chose Spartan van lines because it was a small business and we thought that we would receive great customer service. We love to support small businesses, especially in this climate where large companies appear to be taking over all aspects of commerce. Our family was moving from one state to another state. Things started off well when we met with the salesperson, Kelly. She appeared very thorough and provided good customer service. We signed our contract in mid August 2022. But, it didn't take long after we signed our contract and they picked up our furniture for this company to turn into the company from hades. A few weeks after they picked up our furniture, a company representative called us and asked if they could move our furniture to a storage facility so they could end our contract. (What's that all about???). We were thinking "we just paid them over $6000 (half the overall bill) to pack our home, hold our items for the complementary 30 days and then move our items to our new home in a different state. The representative indicated that they had packed out items on a truck along with another customer's items and they did not want to unpack our items in order to transport only the items for the other customer. Basically, they wanted to drop our furniture off somewhere so they could deliver the other customer's items without having to unpack the entire truck. This is totally unacceptable!!!!! What type of professional company does that??!!!! We already sold our old home and were awaiting the completion of our new home so we had nowhere else to store our furniture. Not to mention, we just paid them to hold it for 30 days then deliver. So o,f course we said "no". As our move was delayed, we needed to purchase additional storage time (which was allowed on our contract). So, a few weeks before our 30 day complementary storage time ended, we attempted numerous times to contact a representative from Spartan van lines to inquire as to how to pay for additional month storage. Needless to say it took many emails, phone calls and ultimately an official email requesting to communicate with the company supervisory staff or ownership just to get them to tell us how we can PAY them to continue to store our property. Finally, we received call and email from a man (Mark) possibly the owner who helped facilitate our purchase of additional storage months. Once we were ready to receive our furniture, the process seemed as though it was getting a bit better (probably because we were communicating directly with Mark- owner) It all went sideways again when our furniture was delivered in late December 2022. Of course, the truck driver indicated that he would not allow the unloading crew to start unloading until we paid the last half of our bill (which I understand). So, I gave him the cashiers check for the last half of our moving fee ($6000+). Once he got approval that the cashiers check was valid, he ordered the unload d crew to start unloading our furniture. The work crew were friendly enough but as the unloading of our furniture continued on the crew were more and more reluctant to put the items in the specific rooms that were clearly marked on the boxes and bins. There were many items crushed, broken and mangled. It was clear that our items were not cared for in a professional manner. To top it all off, the truck driver, Marco, told the unloading crew not to dispose of the packaging material that the original loading crew used to pack all of our items. So, we had a large mount of paper, tape and cardboard packing material just sitting outside our front door. When we asked Marco why he would not take the packing material, he indicated that they would only take it if the original movers used packing blankets so if we wanted them to dispose of the packing materials we would have to pay an additional $800+. We felt that this was definitely a bait and switch operation because we were not advised of this additional fee at the time of signing our contract. The original packing crew were the ones who used the packing paper instead of the blankets which was not our choice. So, feeling as if we had no choice, we paid the $800+. Of course, no one answered the phone when we tried to make a damage claim, so I had to email, text and call Mark. Mark was initial very responsive. He apologized for the damaged items and sent me the email address so that we could send the photos of the damages. We have sent many, many emails to customerservice@spartanvanlines.com and mark@spartanvanlines.com. We have texted Mark's cell phone and left messages on Mark's cell phone many times requesting and an update on our claim with no response. The Spartan Van Lines company phone number (855-597-5900) which is on our contact appears to either be out of order, disconnects or turned off. We were not even able to leave a voicemail. I called several places but chose them because they seemed like a real, live business, with a vested interest in taking care of me & my treasures. As a small business owner myself, I appreciate this. Pick up went really well. We had a few family heirlooms that needed TLC when we sold my Dad's house. He was a packaging salesman & VERY picky about protecting things. We had such a great experience with Spartan Van Lines!! Our friends recommended them after their move from SF to Washington and I'm so happy we went with them! From start to finish, everything was so smooth. Mercedes did an amazing job handling our move. She was attentive and so helpful. They require a detailed quote of your items, which makes it clear how much your moving costs will be. There were no surprise charges or hidden fees. What was quoted is what was owed. The movers (3 man crew) were amazing! So fast, efficient, and nice! They were smiling and never complained. They moved our two bedroom apartment and wrapped all furniture and tv in 2.5 hrs!! Very pleasant experience. I've moved about 5 times in the last 10 years and this was hands down the best experience! If you are on the fence, go for it! You won't regret it. Moving out of state is a stressful situation, but Spartan made it less stressful--they were professional, caring, and reliable. Both the pickup crew and the drop off crew were amazing. I have done 3 substantial tech office moves in SF and the service I received from Spartan is far superior. They took great care wrapping larger items with plastic or blankets and plastic. I just used Spartan Van Lines to move from San Jose to LA this past week. They have been extremely helpful and guided me through the process as they made sure everything arrives within your ideal dates. When they came, they packed and wrapped everything for us. It's no joke how they wrap, my couch and shelves were in protective blankets and even my king mattress arrived in its own box! They disassembled my bed frame, shelves and tables and reassembled it at the destination. At the new place, they always make sure each box ends up in the right room. I absolutely loved the service and all the guys that came were friendly and resilient to all the stuff I had to make them go through; including the three flights of stairs I had them constantly go up and down on, and to move in stuff on literally the hottest day in LA.
