A friend told me she no longer goes there because of the service and I didn't believe her. Wow has this place changed! We used to go quite often, but won't happen again. Our server was so busy gabbing with her buddies that she kept forgetting our stuff. Husband ordered Hash brown potatoes and got country. So she took it back to correct it. Fine no problem. Then she's asks if there is anything else that we need and he replied "My milk". She then gives him a nasty look and shakes her head as she walks away. Once back to the kitchen area she starts talking to her buddies (employee) and points at my husband. One employee went so far as to actually stick her tongue out at him. We each had only one bite of our meal, but refuse to be subjected to that kind of behavior. We asked for the bill, paid ,and then asked for the Manager who was like deer in the headlights. We informed him what had transpired, then the girl (server) had the gall to say my husband was short with her. Once for dinner, breakfast, and twice for lunch. Great food, generous portions, reasonably priced, friendly staff. We ventured to Spencer's out of nostalgia. I remember going here all the time in high school and loving their breakfast. I haven't been in years and and unfortunately was greatly disappointed. I got the lumberjack breakfast and Gary got the Monte Christo. We split a biscuit and gravy. The gravy was entirely too peppery. I almost coughed at how much pepper was in it and the biscuit lacked that buttery flavor. My breakfast was underwhelming and the bacon was entirely over cooked. Gary couldn't hardly eat his sandwiches. The strawberry dip looked like it was from a can and it overall just was poorly cooked. The portions were huge - way too big but I think that's why people come here. It needs a remodel and menu update. Won't be going back anytime soon if at all. Which is disappointing. read more

My family and friends have always loved Spencer's I would generally recommend it, but this location (Rosedale) just really disappointed me today. I was there with my family and children and all of a sudden we heard a worker at the front where 2 customers were checking out cussing at them and in front of everyone yelling at them for some sort of personal drama. My kids had to hear all of this including the swearing. It was incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate. To make it worse I'm pretty sure the woman yelling was a manager. I would give this restaurant another star if it was consistent. I have been here several times throughout the years with my family and friends. Most of the time, you will receive great service. They also bbq on Friday's at times so that you can get a family size tri tip dinner to go. Nice! Today, my brother decided on the pastrami burger. He usually gets the burger on sourdough or a patty melt, but was curious because it was on the dinner specials menu. He said the pastrami was not very flavorful and will stick to his usual. The French fries are always nice and crisp. My father and mother both picked meatloaf dinners from the senior menu. It incl choice of soup or salad, potato, veggies or rice, etc. and garlic toast or cornbread. They love the meatloaf. It is never dry and has little bits of veggies chopped inside. I ordered chicken strips with mashed potato, salad, green beans, and cornbread. The strips were big and tasted just right. I liked my mashed potato (skin on) and the cornbread is my favorite. It is slightly sweet. They offer dessert. Usually, a cookie, cobbler, or ice cream/sherbert. Cool, who does this anymore? The apple cobbler was tasty today and topped with whipped cream. My mom went with chocolate ice cream. Our server was awesome. She checked on us and refilled our drinks. She was also friendly. I wish I remembered her name. Have been going to Spencer's for years primarily going for breakfast. A few lunches and a couple for dinner. The breakfast staff is great. The food has been mostly good. 2 weeks ago my wife and I stopped for dinner. Our meal arrived not as described on menu. We asked to have it corrected. 3 times and 2 servers later they brought it back the same. We saw the cook laughing. At that time we decided to pay for our dinner salads and leave. After trying to charge me for drinks we didn't order, the 3rd employee (the mean girl) called me an asshole and cancelled the order all together. The entire crew did not care one bit. I have never been treated like that in a restaurant. I left angry. I will never return. Since that time I have heard similar stories. A week ago they changed their hours to breakfast and lunch only. All I had was a simple side salad and an appetizer platter, which was very good the side salad was very simple just lettuce and cheese, but the ranch was very good The customer service that I received from Anna was Amazing, my car was in the shop, my phone was dying and it was hot. Anna was sweet, kind, friendly and most important made me feel at home and comfortable. She let me charge my phone and told me to stay as long as I needed cause she knew how hot it was outside. Had an amazing experience a few weeks ago - placed an order to go and it was excellent, both service and food. I called today to place an order to go and was met with an employee screaming toward the kitchen and immediately put on hold. I happened to be out and about so my husband and I drove over. After 8 minutes on hold, I arrived at the Rosedale location and was greeted by Nora. I said I wasn't sure what would be better since I was on hold for quite some time. She met me with a snarky comment "well as you can see I am not just standing around." Sad comment and totally to my dismay considering I wasn't upset about it at all, but when met with the rude comment that is when I was frustrated. She walked away and the phone continued to ring and another employee answered it. Nora let that employee know she wasn't worried about anyone on the phone and they weren't her priority. Nora finally came back and greeted me with "okay, sweetie" and proceeded to take my order. This in itself is frustrating and cringeworthy. I am more than willing to give tons of grace considering the Covid pandemic, but I mean really? I felt bad for those calling in after me that were repeatedly put on hold for extended periods of time. Nora, I completely understand you are stressed, but treating people terribly doesn't help the establishment whatsoever. As I sat and waited for my food, I thought it was also sad to hear the other employee talking crap because a gentleman changed his order among other inappropriate feelings exchanged between the two of them. I get it we all get frustrated, but maybe don't say negative things about your customers while other customers are within earshot. If I owned this business and knew my employees were talking mad shit in front of other paying customers, they would not have a job. We were hoping to make this a regular haunt given we've returned to the Northwest, but now I am not so certain. Food is great, service not so much. Service was slow. Food was fair, except the cornbread was really good. When we got our food, my husband asked for an Orange juice which he never received. Our waitress never came back to our table to see if everything was ok or to see if we needed anything. My chicken gumbo soup was too spicy to eat without coughing and sneezing, and my husband's pork chops were very dry with little flavor. I put my soup on the end of the table and was going to order something else instead, but she never returned. We also went to the cashier without our ticket when we were finished. When I was a kid my mom's favorite restaurant was Spencers. She loved it so much that we always ended up eating there. My sister and I hated it! We called it Sewage Spencies. Needless to say it has been approximately 15 years since I have stepped in that place and I have to give it some props. While I still don't think the food is fantabulous I was pleasantly surprised by it. It is definitely down home cookin', hearty food- not my normal fave but it was decent food. The service was wonderful. The woman who helped us treated us like we has been friends for years. As for the Southwest omelette it was more like ingredients added to scrambled eggs and then folded in half w/grated cheese on top. I take my parents to the Spenser's on Rosedale at least once a month. Service is great and food quality is consistent. I work on the east side so I've been to the one on Mall View rd. 3 times. The service is good but the food they are turning looks like the cooks are having a race to see who can get the food out the fastest (not a lot of people dining at the time). Pastrami was the worst I've had with most of the pastrami on one side of the bun, chopped lettuce and tons of diced red onions. I'll stick with the Rosedale location. read more

The worst service I have ever experienced amongst all the restaurants In town. Our server Donna took 20 minutes to serve us our order because she was chatting too much with other customers. It would have been fine if she was not neglecting other customers like us. The food on the table beside us was served already and we arrived 10 minutes earlier than them. When I looked for our server, I saw her chatting away with another customer and was even sitting in the booth with them. I have no choice but to look for another server to follow up on our order. It turned out that our food was already ready and just needed to be served. I saw Donna talking to other servers and then she came to our table and said we only waited "9 minutes" for our order. Her voice was loud, obviously meant for everyone to hear. I said it was much longer that that but she said that it was only 9 minutes. I work in the medical field and I know how to tell MY time. She came back after" 7 minutes" to give us our bill and asked if we need boxes. I bit my tounge and refused to be goad by her rudeness and very unprofessional behavior. My husband and I just boxed our food and left the restaurant before I loose it and be as rude as our server. Donna needs to be retrained for customer service and professionalism. We are not difficult people. A simple I'm sorry would have done it for us. Giving us rude treatment after the incident is way too unprofessional and unacceptable. Finally #3 finds my order on the table right in front of her. At this point the food is cold. I tell her so and ask for a refund. A manager arrives and tells me my refund has been credited.
