I had really high expectations for Sperry's based on the Yelp reviews and was sad disappointed when we went here Valentine's Day weekend. We had a reservation for 7:45, but ended up waiting about 20 minutes still until we were seated. I know it was a busy weekend so no big deal, but seems to slightly defeat the point of a reservation. There were lots of couples waiting who has reservations. The waiter was pleasant but not super friendly, and it's actually a pretty small dining area which I was surprised by. Definitely has more of a family home feel vs an upscale steakhouse, but I guess that's part of the charm. The one thing I did love was the salad bar - the homemade dressings are INCREDIBLE and I really loved their garlic one! We ordered the crab cake starter and each a steak, and then a side of lobster Mac and cheese to go with it. From here, I felt like things started to get disappointing. The crab cakes arrived about 1 minute before the steaks, so we had to scarf them down awkwardly to then eat our main meal. They were pretty dry and not much sauce on them, which I was disappointed by as I normally love crab cakes. Then, we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our lobster Mac and cheese to arrive to eat with our steaks. At this point, mine was getting cold, and to be honest the filet was super underwhelming - barely seasoned, with not much flavor and pretty chewy. It was probably the worst filet I've ever had. And then the lobster Mac and cheese, for all the hype, tasted just like tiny noodles and lobster. I could barely taste a sauce, let alone cheese. And the portion was enough for one, not two, so I'm surprised they price it and advertise it as a side for 2. All in all, it felt like a very overpriced meal for a very underwhelming experience. We won't be back! Such a bummer because we love supporting local restaurants. read more

The quality of the food at Sperry's has declined over the years. I won't complain much about the service because it's always busy there, and I imagine the people who work there have very difficult jobs. It's perhaps a bit too dark inside the dining room. I'm sorry that I don't recall how nice or gross the bathroom was, not a memory of that at all in my head. I must say it used to be much better, but I admit that the filet mignons I have had there were very good (when the cut of meat was nice). However, my husband has the salmon; and the last time he had it, he said that it was the worst salmon he'd ever had. The steaks are the reason I am giving three stars. That fish is expensive and should make for a lovely dinner experience, and we simply have had more than one bad dinner there. That's why I deducted two stars. read more

We had several appetizers with wine and ate tapas style. The scallops appetizer (with grits, asparagus cuts and grits) practically melt in your mouth. The crabcakes are 98% real crabmeat (served with grits and a garnish of honey-dijon-dressed salad greens) and are the best Ive ever had. The baked brie and shrimp & grits were also wonderful. Everything was just delicious. We appreciated their bar seating was limited for social distancing. Decor is beautiful with dark wood and romantic table lights. Staff are professional and courteous. After touring the Mansion next door we could not find an Uber in the area to take us back to our hotel. We decided to grab a drink and appetizer at the bar while we waited for a solution. The hostess at Sperry's acted like we were homeless people off the street and would barely acknowledge us. She told us to talk to the bartender if we wanted to be on the wait list for the bar, but the bartender was absolutely not going to give us the time of the day, and the rest of the staff ignored us right out the door. Long time Belle Meade standard. As someone who lived in Nashville from 1987-2009, it was always the place to go for a perfect, no fuss meal. After over a decade it still has its shine. Wonderful meal. I had the 9oz filet w/béarnaise and sautéed spinach, my husband had the filet Oscar with French onion soup and a twice baked potato. The filets were perfect, as were all our sides. We followed our meal with table side-made bananas foster. So, so good. Love the old standards! Service was stellar. Our server, a young lady, deserved mega kudos. Just a perfect evening altogether. We went for evening dinner 12/27/2023. We placed our order 4 in the party ordered prime rib. Waiter took our order and left area. He came back a little later and informed us that they were out of prime rib. Shouldn't he know that when taking order? I ordered grouper but was unable to eat it because of the toughness. A bottle of wine was ordered by someone other than myself and the charge for that was $160.00 for a 750ml bottle. Needless to say I was SHOCKED when I was presented a bill for $797.00. J read more

Sperry's has become my boyfriend and I's weekly date night spot even though we live on the opposite side of Nashville and drive 25 minutes to get there. We love the crab cakes for an app and always either get steaks or the ahi tuna for entrees. The salad bar is phenomenal and the cocktails are always perfectly mixed as well. The service at this place is TOP NOTCH. If you want to be treated like a princess, this is the place to go. I've never felt more valued as a patron than I have at this restaurant. Anything I wanted, the staff would go to extra lengths to make it happen. You don't realize how important service is until you receive the best (or the worst). This place is definitely the best in service. Other positives about this place: 1. They have a complimentary salad bar with the most delicious house-made dressings. I recommend the Green Goddess. 2. The quality of their meat and seafood is very good. I highly recommend the rack of lamb. It was extremely tender. 3. The lighting is romantically dim, and the decor feels like something of an old hunting lodge. 4. When you order the bananas foster, the staff will wheel out a portable stove and cook it table-side. Rushed! REALLY LOUD. Totally ADHD experience. Service was pretty bad, had to flag down the server. All too much and really over the top price wise for what is received. A salad bar that is so retro and so good. Maybe that should be their niche. But the rest is just a bad headache. read more

My in-laws purchased my wife and I two gift certificates to Sperry for our Anniversary. Based on their description of the cost of the place I'd still have to take out a second mortgage on the house to pay for dinner. Fortunately, for my wallet, this ended up not being the case. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Sperry. I can see why it's been open all these years and still seems to be going strong. Believe me when I say it is going strong. We arrived at almost exactly when the doors opened at 5 PM. We had a reservation so there was no concern about getting a table, but within 30 minutes the place was pretty much full! Be sure to consider making a reservation if you want to visit! Another thing of note was the Salad Bar. I suppose in 1974 the Salad Bar at Sperry's was very unique and exciting. It's still very good, and has many toppings, but after years of other places with Salad Bars, the uniqueness of this feature seems somewhat less appealing. The Steak though.. Oh my the Steak. I ordered the Roast Prime Rib, and while I type this, I wish I could take another bite of it. If you are looking for somewhere for a special occasion in Nashville, you can't go wrong with Sperry. I brought my wife here last night for our 10 year wedding anniversary. I'm so happy we chose Sperry's. We started off with French Onion Soup. I thought it was slightly salty and my wife thought it was perfect. Over all it was great. We moved on to Shrimp Cocktail and the Crab Cakes. The shrimp were massive and the cocktail sauce was exceptional. It had a strong horseradish flavor, but I really enjoyed it. The Cab Cakes were devoured by the wife. I got one bit and it was great. Everything was really fresh. I ordered the Bone In Filet with a Twice Baked Potato. The Filet was cooked to perfection. It was a bit bland though. I enjoy the flavor of the meat, but wish it had a bit more salt and maybe pepper. The quality of the meat itself was great. The Twice Baked Potato was good. My wife ordered the Prime Rib and a Baked Potato. Her Prime Rib was massive to say the least. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Their horseradish sauce has a sweetness to it that I loved. I should have snatched her plate and ate it! For dessert we got the Tennessee Cheesecake. Soooo good. We fought over it. It was creamy and fresh. I need another slice ASAP! Staff was great.Very friendly and attentive. Ambiance was nice. I wouldn't say its romantic but its cozy. Seating is a bit tight and there is lots of movement due to people going to and from the salad bar. It is also on the louder side. We didn't mind. Best steak I've ever had. Great experience. We had a long wait with our reservation so they were extremely apologetic and gave us drinks. The shrimp cocktail were huge and delicious (see photo). My NY strip was cooked perfectly and simply heavenly. The accompanying burgundy mushroom sauce was terrific. Garlic potatoes and creamed spinach were divine. I'm told the prime rib was so good he orders it time and time again. Too full for dessert. As crowded as it can be, the bar room is a cozy place to eat with the fireplace and xmas tree, with a very friendly staff. I'd go back in a second. read more

My SO were here 12/18/2018, the food was great, but the ambience was terrible! She had trout almondine, and loved it; I had the tuna which was done to perfection. The prosecco was a great wine suggestion by our waiter. The noise level was so loud we could not talk! We ordered the bananas foster and the waiter said while we could indeed have it he could not wheel the prep cart to our table because the party next to us were standing, not sitting! How hard is it to ask people to allow the cart through? Do not go early! Go later when the crowd thins and the wait staff are willing to ask customers for a little consideration. read more

Sperry's is our "go to" for a great meal and fun night and has been for decades.

After living in Nashville for 3 years and hearing great things about this restaurant we thought we would give it a try versus going back to Stoney River. The waiter repeated my mothers steak preparation 3 times before writing it down. It was Medium Rare and I guess that was a bit trying. My sister ordered a Medium steak, the one they are known for, the blue cheese filet. It was to be prepared Medium, but when it was delivered it looked to be just mssing the head of the cattle, raw. Through exasperation we decided to not get a new one, but the hostess brought over another steak and said, "we don't want you to go hungry so here is another steak." Unfortunately my sister was not interested. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for good service or good steaks. If you want a good salad bar. This is your place! read more
