I frequently come with a friend on holidays when the entrees are half price. We went on Labor Day and had a fine meal; both of us had beef. The wine was half price by the bottle as well. Our server was attentive, but not too much so. My usual Manhattan was large and fixed correctly. We both enjoyed the kidney bean salad on the salad bar and of course the Green Goddess dressing truly turns back the pages of time. My favorite dessert is the peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce. It's a bit on the expensive side, but these special deals for holidays always make me come back. read more

This was our second visit to Sperry's. On both occasions the food was outstanding. The service was prompt and friendly. After an appetizer of sausage-mango-mushrooms, I had the 14oz pork chop with twice bajked potato. My wife had the crab cakes. We also both had their salad bar. Every item we ate was freshly prepared and delicious. The only negative I experienced was that the noise levels were high making conversation difficult. Had great service from our waiter Steve. We each had the salad bar which I have to say was nothing like I expected - VERY simple and limited (Ruby Tuesday's has 5 times as much on theirs) - would be better if they at least chopped up the veggies to bite size, everything is in huge chunks. Only saving grace is it came with our steaks and we did not have to pay extra for it. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and tasted awesome. A bit disappointed that for the high price they don't come with any sides at all. This is clear from the menu so not lowering the number of stars because of this. My husband and I return to this outstanding establishment as often as possible. The lobster bisque must never be turned down. Their steaks are always cooked to perfection and the staff actually care enough to wait after the meal has been served for you to cut into the piece of meat and acknowledge that it meets your standards. I have not had a bad piece of seafood in the establishment. If I could change anything I would add more tables so that I never had to wait. But I will admit any wedding I have ever done here it's because I have failed to make a reservation. read more

Had a great dinner experience at Sperry's last evening . Food was incredible - my wife had a perfectly cooked filet and the BBQ Shrimp and Grits was amazing! Barbara our server was pleasant and extremely helpful with our meal choices. The only negative was the cramped feeling as tables are packed extremely tight next to each other. Thank goodness the patrons we were placed next too where pleasant and considerate as well. Lastly the table side bananas foster was great - really rich but great- make sure you save room for this! Hello, I agree with LaTamera! Sperry's is wonderful, the atmosphere and service. Myy husband and went for the first time in 2010. There was one thing in particular that we noticed. We sat down next to a table of guest. They had an appetizer then talked, entree then talked, dessert then talked, coffee then talked. And they still talked and was enjoying themselves. My husband and I were trying to rush eat and go. Why I asked? Because we had been use to going to restaurants where you feel like you are a "herd of cattle", or "hurry up and move I need someone else there to get a tip". But Sperry's it was relaxing. So I tell everyone if you want a relaxing atmosphere with wonderful food, go to Sperry"s. We also went Christmas 2011, with the fireplace and hearing laughter among others it was truly a heart warming Christmas for us. Now it you enjoy the "herd of cattle", it's not for you. Sperry's is the most overpriced restaurant we have ever eaten at, and the food wasn't all that outstanding. I would much rather have gone to any steak chain. $40 gets you a steak (mine was tough) and a trip to the cheap-o salad bar. (Only the basic toppings, baby carrots from a bag, etc.) The steak looked pretty lonely on a big plate with nothing else. A potato or other side item is about $5 - $7 -- served on a separate plate. Yes it's a pretty setting and the service was good, but I would never spend that kind of money on a so-so steak dinner again. I'm not sure how they're still in business. read more

This restaurant was recommended by fellow employees. I stopped to have dinner in the bar area on my way home from work. All the bar chairs were full and I was the only one waiting for a place to sit. I woman at the bar told me she was leaving and I could have her seat. As soon as I sat down the bar tender made me get up and stand and said that there was a girl waiting for the seat. The girl had just arrived and was one of his friends. He rubbed her shoulder as she sat down. I asked if she was at the bar before me and the bartender lied and said she had been waiting for a while. This place is nice and cozy. A great place for an impressive first date, anniversary, or apology meal :-) Awesome looking steaks. I'm not into steak or any beef products for that matter so my critique is limited. However those in party who ordered such were very much pleased. They have a nice salad bar, fire place with seating for dinner (how romantic and awesome!), and great wine selections and this thing called an air diffuser or something. Anyway, it gets the air out of your wine quickly so you can really enjoy its fruitiness. I had a great time. Get there when they first open at 5pm and sit at the bar - last week I sat next to an old-time country music producer (dining alone) and writer of mega-hits from the Tammy Wynette and George Jones era. The perfect compliment to my aged, melt in your mouth angus beef filet. The bartender set me up with a place setting and a red-napkin-table cloth right on the bar. We watched the news on the TV together like we were an old married couple. I tried the escargot to start - buttery with lots of garlic (why yes, I'd LOVE a breath mint...) visited the salad bar complete w/ Green Goddess Dressing (Ranch w/ food coloring but totally retro - loved it!) and more extra goodies than you can imagine - dried cranberries, sweet onions, olives, garbanzos - my waitress told me a Sperry's secret - the second I hit the salad bar is when my order goes in. Ate at Sperry's today for Christmas dinner. Last year we ate there also and had a very good experience. I cannot say the same for this year. They had crammed so many tables into the dining room until you felt like you were having dinner with the other patrons. That, sad to say, was not the worst of it. We ordered two ice teas and after waiting a long time for them I finally flagged the waitress and asked when we might receive them. Her response and I quote, "you will get them when I get time to bring them". Three of us had finished our meal and they were in such a hurry to turn the table they tried to take the fourth plate away as she was still eating. As she protested and said she would like to finish her steak their response was "okay we will let you finish". The waitress completely ignored us until it was time to pay and leave a tip, then she could not do enough for us, "did we need anything, more tea, more bread, Merry Christmas, etc". My advice, do not go here on a Holiday. In fact I would probably recommend not going here period. Steaks are good, salad bar is ridiculous, prices too high. read more

Finally made it here to see what all the hype was about. We got there early and sat at the bar. The sweet young thing bartender was cute but did not know how to make a Negroni. She did not even know what Campari was. They did not have one of the wines on their list and served a different vintage of wine we did order. We ordered appetizers from the happy hour menu. Food was good but they were out of the prime rib sliders by 5:20. The place doesn't even open til 5. No excuse for that one. My husband and I went to Sperry's last night to celebrate Valentine's Day and the food was disappointing, to say the least. We ordered the New York Strip and Lobster Tails. The $36 steak was one of the worst we have ever had. It was very tough, flavorless and covered in char. The waiter announced that their beef was grain-fed like it was a good thing(it's not). The lobster tails were ok, but definitely not $45 good. I'm also not sure why they were so flat when they brought them out. Possibly to make them appear larger? The drawn butter was cold. We even tried using it on the steak to make it taste better. It didn't work. The salad bar and baked potato were mediocre. This experience was not what we expected at all. Even though we are locals, we've not gone to this restaurant & last night seemed to call for it, since it was cool & rainy & we'd been told about the warm ambiance. It was perfect for us with the dark oak, dim lighting....super cozy. We arrived at 5 without a reservation & fortunately were seated. Perfect service, amazing 98% jumbo lump meat crab cakes, filet just right & salad bar (Nashville's 1st in 1974 we learned) was delicious/fresh/homemade dressings/great choices. Yes, it's pricey, but we felt it was well worth it for the quality of food & service. However, we would not pay $7 each for side items next time as the salad, bread, & entree are more than enough. read more

Sperry's NEW MERCANTILE (Belle Meade) Store: We love Sperry's and have been coming here since 2008 and live nearby. Much to my delight they opened up a brand new concept, their Mercantile Store. The store carries most of the items that you would find in the restaurant. I love the fact that you can pick up fabulous restaurant grade meat (3% of the Beef served in the US, so you can't buy this quality in a grocery store), already portioned out per their restaurant servings. We picked up a Filet, bone in Rib Eye, and some delightful side items, including their famous Garlic Dressing. Their SeaBass and Tuna and Shrimp looked fabulous as well. But what I really am looking forward to is the ability to pick these items as we want, without having to freeze them. Currently they are open Tues - Sat from 10-6pm (I know, I took a picture inside i was so happy!). And I believe their butcher uses this facility to cut meat for the restaurant, so what you get at the Mercantile is always fresh offerings. Bon Appetite!! read more

Worst customer service. I made a reservation for a party for 2. We both showed up at 7:15pm sharp. Kim was the hostess(newbie). I walked in and went over to her, she said hold on while she checks me in. We waited for more than 30 minutes. She doesn't know what she was doing, kept dragging a guy that worked there to help her on the iPad. I come here all the time and it's just unacceptable. I will no longer go there again. We have dined at Sperry's Cool Springs on several occasions and have in the past been pleased with our meals and service. When the highlight of the meal is the salad bar you know the meals were disappointing. Meat was tough, servings small and everything was cold. I went on Halloween which means 1/2 price entrees. Restaurant very nice and sit up beautifully so all was good on the front end. The problem started when my bone in ribeye arrived. I ordered it Med Rare and it came out Med. The problem was that the steak was a thin cut instead of a thicker cut that I was expecting. Very hard to cook thinner cuts to proper temperature. The meat was a tad tough and to be honest with you I would have sent it back if full price would have been charged. The Bartender was adequate yet a bit gruff at times. She was all business and really didnt have time to be personable as she was by herself. Will not be going back as I have eaten better cuts of meat from the grocery store. read more

We came for dinner to celebrate my dad and my sister's fiancé birthday and we weren't disappointed. I ordered filet mignon and lump crab cake and it was delicious! This place is very unpretentious, it's straight up dated with the ledge adorned with huge empty Moët champagne bottles and mature guys drinking whiskey in the bar. I was just wondering why I was charged for the cake that we didn't order just because we told the server that we were celebrating 2 of companion's bday. Nevertheless, it was just $8 extra and I will definitely return next time. The serving size is just right it's not like you go to places like Maggiano's where quantity is measured over quality of food. It's definitely filling in a very good way. I'm sure other steak options will have huge portion I just wanted to try a little surf and turf. Also, it will be better if you get your own salad rather than have them serve it to you bc the Caesar salad that was served to me was just a bunch of lettuce. I grew up enjoying Sperry's fine dining in Belle Meade for years and years. This evening, however, was the final epic fail in a steady decline in quality, environment and customer service. Not only were we greeted with less than barely average hostess service, we were told to go to the bar and have a beverage while our table was being set up. No seating available anywhere....and when we asked the hostess about this her totally blank stare told us what was next to come. After asking to speak to a manager we waited several minutes to be rudely approached by a person representing himself as the general manager. Not only was this jerk arrogant, rude, condescending and LOUD he flatly refused to tell us who his manager was. This idiot kept raising his voice even after being asked to calm down and speak to us with respect. Clearly, his total lack of any sort of the most basic "Management 101" skills resonated throughout the restaurant. He embarrassed himself, confirming his immaturity to everyone in the restaurant in a loud voice and validated this plane crash of a very short, and our FINAL experience at what was once THE PLACE to go. Oh by the way junior I know who your manager and your CEO are. Perhaps a paper hat and the phrase "would you like fries with that" would be more suited to your narcissistic rage filled future career. After reading the reviews, I decided to make a 615 P.M. reservation at Sperry's to celebrate my wife's birthday. Our table was ready on time and my wife was extremely impressed when she saw a bouquet of flowers (ordered during reservation) on the table especially when she read the card to find out that the flowers were from me :-) . Hillary was our waitress and she made the evening exciting and full of energy with her professionalism and wonderful sense of humor. We started out with a chilled bottle of champagne to start off the evening followed by an appetizer consisting of smoked salmon & shrimp bisque which was absolutely delicious. For the main course, my wife had crab cakes with a quinoa & kale salad and I of course had the 18 oz. ribeye bone-in steak with a side of sautéed mushrooms and grilled asparagus. I can't even begin to explain how good the steak was. The crab cake was all crab not filler like most places we have been to. Everything and I mean everything was prepared superbly down to the salad which was nothing like I have ever tasted. the goat cheese and the other ingredients really made the best tasting salad that was very satisfying to the palate. I definitely recommend Sperry's and plan to re-visit in the near future with friends so that they can enjoy the same for themselves. My wife and I had a wonderful time and we ended the evening with a complimentary serving for two of peppermint ice cream with chocolate syrup. Hillary is awesome!!! read more
