We topped it all of with the most decadent Spezia Tiramisu and Molten Cocoa Cake. Honestly, everything was magnificent! I have never tasted Italian food quite that full of flavor! Very pleased! I've been there on two occasions, once for a rehearsal dinner and again recently with a friend. Both times I was impressed. The first time I had the Chicken Parmigiana and it was fantastic. Perfectly tender and mouthwatering. I love their mashed potatoes as well. I went with a friend and had a chicken breast with an orange sauce and I very much enjoyed it. I don't see it on the menu so it was likely a special. Again, tender, and the mash potatoes were delicious. The service was wonderful the first time. My fiancé and I would often visit for monthly date nights. We always enjoyed the great food and ambiance. The service was up to par for most of our visits but nothing extraordinary. The only reason my partner and I stopped going to Spezia was when we called in advance to be seated in the window seats. Now these window seats are not your ordinary seats and something that guests here will love. After we called in weeks in advance for the reservation of the window seat; we arrived and as we were being seated we were heading toward seats that were not the window seats. My fiancé brought up how we had previously reserved a window seat. Instead of giving us a reason for not seating at the window the hostess just told us the window seats were all taken even though we had already reserved them for this visit. To make things even better not only were we not in the window seat we were placed in a booth in a dark corner right outside of the kitchen door. The food here was always something we enjoyed and looked forward to but after our latest experience we have not bothered to return. read more

This has been on my list to try for quite awhile and I finally made it out there this weekend. We shared a flatbread (with peppers and sausage) and it was delicious but gigantic; cooked to perfection and a delightful thin crust. I had the Gnocchi dish which featured chicken, spinach, and mushrooms. I asked before I ordered if the Gnocchi was made in-house and our waitress said it was, and boy did it show. It was perfectly cooked; soft without being doughy inside and a little crisp on the outside. The chicken and other mix-ins were also great - I especially loved that the spinach wasn't cooked so much that it was wilty. It was a nice crisp element. I wished there had been a little more of the mix-ins, though...toward the end of my meal I had run out of spinach and chicken. My dining partner got the chicken parm which was really a feast. A big mound of pasta and red sauce, a huge chicken breast, and then just a small smattering of veggies on the side. The dinner rolls were super warm and fresh, and I really liked our waitress who was friendly and attentive to our needs without making us feel rushed at all - just the right balance. Other than that, the decor is a little dated and hokey. But the menu is straightforward and all our food was good. After a lovely dinner here, my only substantive critique is that the proportions of food and portion sizes are all over the place; sometimes too much, sometimes too little, but never just enough. read more

This is mainly a shout out to our awesome server, Nolan. My husband and I went out for a late Valentine's Day dinner and really didn't know what to expect as we hadn't dined here together before. Not only was Nolan professional and courteous, but he shared some great recommendations. The food was stellar and the atmosphere was exactly what we had hoped for. Our family of four recently visited Spezia for a meal. As the evening was nice, we opted for available patio seating. The patio are is quite cozy and shelters diners from the bustle of 72nd St. traffic. It could have been tidied up a bit before the dinner service, but wasn't an issue. Started with a cup of tea and the crab and artichoke dip while I waited for the rest of my party. The service was quick and professional. The chicken parmesan was tasty and firm. My only issue was that my water wasn't refilled even though the server was prompt with my colleagues. The food is very good. But this is the second time in a row we've gone to Spezia where the server seemed more interested in carrying on a conversation at another table vs. paying attention to us. We sat at our table ready to order for nearly 15 minutes before I got up and tracked down our waiter slicing lemons in the kitchen. there were maybe 4 other tables in the restaurant at the time and we waited nearly 20 minutes for our meal (which was actually brought out by someone else) and another 15 minutes waiting for him to pick up my check so I could pay and get out of there. I eventually had to go to the hostess to run my card because he never came back. Again - it was not busy and he was not the only server. Happy hour with ma' friend!!! We went early because it gets packed - PACKED I TELL YOU! like standing room only. We sat at the bar and bartender was just okay, (okay, she wasn't very friendly AT ALL), but when the crowd picked up, more bartenders came and they we're more entertaining and welcoming. We ordered a couple of appetizers which were amazing! Spezia has the best happy hour in town and Wednesdays are ladies night. 1/2 of drinks ALL NIGHT LONG! This review is for the Sunday brunch. I have been here for dinner and lunch in the past and I think its pretty darn good but its been awhile. Anyway for brunch I was a little disappointed with the service. The girl didn't tell us anything about the brunch, no menus were provided so we really didn't know what to do. She asked if we wanted drinks and was going to walk away when I asked about brunch. She said help yourself to the buffet and she could bring some items to us if we wanted. She really didn't go into detail. Maybe a brunch menu would have been great. My wife needs to eat gluten free also and the waitress didn't really know too many details on what is or is not gluten free. Thankfully the person working the buffet offered some help. Unfortunately her choices were a bit limited but she had some good options and they offered to bring gluten free breakfast flat bread that was very tasty. So as usual at the buffet people can get pretty messy and I found two hair's on one of the casseroles, the gentleman working there took care of it quickly and did a fair job keeping the buffet up. That being said the food, overall was good but not great. I really enjoyed the wide variety but nothing wowed me. I actually enjoyed my wife's gluten free flatbread the most. Maybe because it was the freshest warmest out of the oven item we had. Everything on the buffet was a little on the colder side. And honestly the worst cinnamon roll I've ever had. I had one bite and left the rest. So, I'll give Spezia 4 stars but I don't know if I'd do the brunch again. It was ok but there is a lot of other options out there and I just wasn't wowed. Was craving cioppini on a rainy day. Hubby did a search and found this place. Being right off 72nd, I did not expect such a nice restaurant. Walking through the restaurant to our seats which was under the overhead windows was a pleasant surprise. Elegance and sophistication is what this place wanted to show. Wait staff dressed in all black and very pleasant. Had to order off the dinner menu (it was lunchtime on a Saturday) to get my cioppini fix. At $28 it was pretty good. Fish scallops shrimp and crab legs. The stew seemed more tomato based then what I am used to but it was still goos..i ate it all up! Hubby got walleye off the dinner menu since it wasn't fried. He loved it! The hot bread before the meal was yummy especially with that olive oil balsamic parmesan concoction you dip it in. I've got to make that at home! Sooooo disappointed. They sold me white rice as risotto- no!!! The wine list had only basic Chianti from Italy. The medium rare petite steak came out medium well. The petite steak and seafood was a 4 oz filet and 3 medium sized shrimp... it was under sized and fell flat. The tiramisu had barely any chocolate and just tasted like mascarpone and crackers.... listen... this is so far from real Italian ... just don't. First of all, I would travel to Omaha just to eat at this restaurant. I know that this is an Italian joint, but I ended up having the lamb. Perfectly cooked and presented within array of colorful vegetables. The lamb was only enhanced by the way it was prepared in a wood oven. Fantastic service. We were here the other night for my GF's birthday. It's a small location with barely any parking unless you want to park down hill in a back lot. The place is held in high regard around Omaha and mostly delivers with competent service and your typical Italian steakhouse items. Everything we ordered was great tasting and the portions were more then enough especially after appetizers and bread. My only gripe is the prices are bit steep for limited and not very creative menu of your run of the mill entree choices. Bottom line if you are a regular here, then you probably love it. This was my first trip to Spezia, and I was very impressed! I'm glad we made a reservation, previously we had tried to visit, only to be told it was going to be almost a 2hr wait. Our server was awesome, seriously, the best server I've had in recent memory! She went above and beyond and gave comments and suggestions as needed. I enjoyed the eggplant parmesean, and my husband had the pork tenderloin picatta. Each dish was great! Served piping hot, not too much sauce- which is a pet peeve of mine with Italian food. To finish the night, we enjoyed tiramisu. House made, and incredible! Along with a seasonal coconut cake dessert that was also delicious, but no where close to the all-star tiramisu. Half-price bottle of wine on Mondays is a plus, but when you're paying twice as much for an entree of mediocre food, they'll get you back. I absolutely love Spezia - I love everything about it. The atmosphere is a cozy Italian restaurant. The bar area is a little small, it's definitely meant for a quick pre-dinner drink and then moving to your table. Especially if it's around happy hour, it's fairly busy in there. I usually order the Spezia Chicken - it's a creamy sauce with orange/red peppers, mushrooms and nice bites of chicken, served with mashed potatoes. This is COMFORT food! So, so, so good! I literally crave it randomly! I've also had the Parmesan crusted snapper (i think) - it is HUGE! But...unbelievable. I believe it's also served with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Spezia can be tricky to get to if you're heading south on 72nd Street. Spezia serves some tasty wines. Spezia has not, to my knowledge, ever given anyone AIDS. Spezia keeps their thermostat turned down way too far. Spezia makes capable food. Spezia is not built on an ancient Indian burial ground (because Indians live in India). Spezia is more expensive than I'd like. Spezia employs a lovely young lady who knows how to pour a perfect half and half. Spezia doesn't call a half and half a "half and half". Wowza!!! We reserved the back room for our son's rehearsal dinner in October, we were so impressed! We love this place anyway but were blown with all the attention! We came in after lunch to decorate for that evening. Their staff jumped into action and helped us unload our car and helped set up. Our main waitress came in and introduced herself and was with us for the night and regularly checked in to see what we needed. Food was brought out promptly and was delicious! We had 50 people and the service was outstanding. It's a great night when you still hear compliments weeks later from family! Can't recommend Spezia enough for your big event!!! read more

Don't know what to get? Apparently you get anything with the word "Hunter" on the menu. For example, Hunter's Roasted Duckling. Delicious! Nicely cooked rested on top of a yummy mushroom risotto. It's been a while since we ate here, and it was so good to be back. When my wife and I lived closer, we used to frequent Spezia all the time. As we were in the area recently, we stopped back in, and they haven't missed a beat. Started with a local beer, and the Calamari to start. The Calamari was lightly breaded, doused lightly with a spicy sauce. For our main dishes I had the Angus Ribeye, and my wife the Gnocchi. My ribeye was cooked a perfect medium rare, and was flavorful and tender, along with baked potato. My wife's go to dish here has always been the Gnocchi, and it still didn't disappoint. She loved it. Our portions were both big enough that we had leftovers, which were just as good later. Overall, this is a great little restaurant, with a nice atmosphere, good service, and good food and drink options. Try it out! read more
