It's really mixed for me. I was first swept off by the Chai. Something about it being served in a mini teacup atop a saucer and although it didn't taste too milky, there was a visible film of milk fat on top. I LOVED how balanced the tea-milk-sugar levels were. It was the perfect cup of Chai. If they sell it to-go, I'd come here just to pick it up! Maybe with another to-go item - the Tandoori chicken. It is so different from other Indian restaurant's ubiquitous tandoori chicken that's usually colored like Char Siu (Cantonese style BBQ pork) and super dry. Spice Room's version is super moist and juicy, served on a piping hot fajita plate! From there it's downhill... The Appetizer platter was ok, nothing to write home about. But I also had to write home about how salty the Chicken korma was. I thought maybe that's how they do saucy meat dishes, but no. My friend's potato curry was also loaded with sodium. And the worst was when you think you can wash it down with some nice naan, the bread was all burnt, dry and hard. I can't believe they screw up something as simple as naan. Hubby's Chicken Biryani tasted funny. Perhaps that's a very regional dish that requires some special skill to make good. I want to say I'm scared to try anything else. Always delicious. Been to two locations in Denver now and both are good. My drink was at first very strong, but the waitress noticed and offered to make me a new one of my choosing at no charge, which was very kind. Very good portion sizes and make great leftovers. read more

My first impression from outside was little misleading. However as soon as we entered the place I had a good feeling about this restaurant. The ambiance was pretty and the lighting was just right. We took a nice corner booth and tried their cucumber salad ( i was so happy to see this! In india most restaurants have fresh cucumber salad on the table). The salad was refreshing with hint of chaat masala and tamrind. They also provided complimentary papad with some amazing sides. They had 4 but my favorite was the mint chutney. We also enjoyed their pani puri, lasuni gobi, daal makhani. But the highlight for me was their garlic naan and roti. Its so thin and perfect. It was awesome. All the flavors are really authentic. I ended the meal with their masala chai which felt comforting and much needed after a long day! The food service was really quick. We got everything in a short time and the staff checked in regularly to see if we wanted anything. For a long time I have been looking for a nice authentic Indian restaurant and for me this is it ! The food here is amazing. Every dish is packed with flavor. I was able to try a lot of different dishes since I came with a bigger party and I don't remember any dish being disappointing. They have a huge menu and there is something for everyone. We dined in on a Friday night and it was super busy. Honestly, I would recommend ordering takeout from this place vs dining in. I've been to the Spice Room twice in the past few months, and both times have been wonderful. Not only is the food great, but so is the service. Although it was sad to see Annie's leave this location, Spice Room has definitely come in with amazing offerings. The Chicken Tikka Masala has been my go-to each time because it's just incredible. It's like a warm hug on a cold night. I've shared some of the other menu items that my friends have ordered, and I don't think I've found something that wasn't great. I'm pretty sure I discovered Spice Room during a short stint driving for Postmates. I had just moved to Denver and was looking for a reliable spot to get Indian food. Walking in to pick up an order, I fell in love with the ambiance and aromas instantly. Throughout the pandemic, I ordered several different curries and naan, both for myself and group game nights. My favorite dish, as always, is Rogan Josh. But everything I've tried tastes so carefully crafted and homemade. Perfect amount of flavor, spice, and proportion of curry to meat. I recently dined in with a few friends, which was a special experience after getting delivery for so many months. I didn't realize how many curries they offered until I held the physical menu in my hands, and it's fun that they recommended beer & wine pairings. Service is fantastic, and they're so accommodating of dietary restrictions. Just ask the wait staff if you have questions because the icons on the menu can be confusing. Make reservations since it can get busy. Next time I'll have to get the mango lassi, which I often crave. I can't wait to come back! read more

I like to think I'm a pretty good judge of Indian food. I go to any Indian place I can find, I eat Indian at least once a week, and I even had an Indian buffet at my wedding. This is definitely becoming one of my favorite Indian spots in Denver real fast. They have everything from street food apps, to delicious meat curries, to aromatic biryani, to fantastic vegetarian dishes. The spot itself is super cute. Small and dimly lit, but colorful and beautifully decorated. It's the kind of spot you might drive by if you didn't know it was there. Great spot for a low-key date night. (Yes, they have wine and beer and make some fun cocktails, too.) Also fantastic for delivery: good meat portions, super attentive to special requests, well packaged, etc. One of my favorite things about this place is that the food is actually spicy. Even I order a lot of it "medium" -- and I love the burn. Try one dish spicy -- maybe the lamb vindaloo ;) Although I'm a fan of the slightly tangy Lamb Aachari, too. And you can't go wrong with chicken tikka masala For vegetarian dishes, the chickpeas, lentils, eggplants, and potatoes/peas are all favorites of mine. read more

I think it speaks volumes about a restaurant if I went back 4 times in 2 weeks and wanting to go back again already (just had dinner there last night). Highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to come on Friday thru Sunday. We showed up a little early on Friday night and almost had to be sat at the parking lot. Kidding. But it was challenging to get seated. I've had lunch here before and it was a little bit of everything with a daal soup, 2 pieces of naan, smaller portion of main with a samosa, rice and their rice pudding dessert. Really good size for about $15. I've also came back for dinner, tried the mashed eggplant, the chicken tikka masala, the potato masala and vindaloo. Everything is so good! They have a full bar too. I recently visited the Spice Room for lunch. I was happy to see they offer an extensive lunch menu. The complimentary pappadam with sauces was also very nice. I ordered the vegetarian Rajma and aloo masala. This dish was a little disappointing because the potatoes were undercooked and flavors were not particularly remarkable. It was spicy, as described. My dining partner was not overly enthusiastic about his honey chicken. Not super keen on the electronic billing system. While the waiter stands there, you are trying to figure out what percentage the suggested tip amounts represent-didn't see that this info is presented (eg, 20%,etc). Every spice possible was felt through every bite, from the little appetizer with the chutney that was spicy (yum) to the chicken curry and chicken korma. Flavor to the max! We do like spicy food which is why we ordered medium+ and it warmed us up from the inside. It was not overpowering but warm and you could taste every spice possible! We have been to many Indian restaurants but this one by far tops every other one. It's a small location and as soon as you walk in, it fills your senses with the smell of the spices. Everyone is super friendly, the restaurant is clean and well maintained. We will return to try more of their dishes and If you decide to try them out, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. The service was extremely meh. But the food was great! They actually held onto fresh naan before serving to us, and it was cold. A little weird to hold onto that. Service. So we had two curries that at the end of service we wanted to take home and they gave us two general fold non liquid containers. Maybe mistake? When pressed "yea that's what we give for Togo" and I'm like, wait, you give these also for your door dash deliveries too? "Oh, no, we give different ones". "Yes please, can we have those sealed/top close containers please" and the look of bewilderment or "god what lousy customers" look they gave. Like really? Also, no receipt to proof read. I know this is hit and miss for everyone, but I hate places that don't give us the receipt to look over. They literally gave us their POS (point of sale) device to look through. What a horrible way to cap the entire food experience. Food was great (albeit slow and cold naan), but the overall service and infrastructure was just extremely lacking. I'd still go to this place, but with a more guarded mental experience to "get what you need" kinda thing. Great places don't have to make you think for what you need. I'm in awe with Spice room! It's been awhile that I've had Indian, had crazy cravings, and Yelp came to the rescue! I've ordered samosas, tikka masala chicken mild, shrimp vindaloo medium, tandoori chicken wings, malai kebabs, an order of butter naan, cheese and jalapeño naan, roti, and a tall glass of chai iced tea. The portions here are generous and the samosas are generous in size and filling, tikka masala chicken was buttery and creamy, and the shrimp vindaloo was spicy. Amazing food! My partner and I have never had Indian food before and wanted to try something new. We took a chance and landed at a fantastic place. The music wasn't overbearing and I could still have a conversation, it's a cutesy little dining area with beautiful stained glass windows. The servers were super friendly and welcoming. Today's high of 4 degrees was no match for Spice Room's spicy food! Pre-COVID, I was a regular at Indian lunch buffets, and with the onset of the pandemic and the halting of buffets, the thought of only picking one entree from a menu has been both overwhelming and sad. When I saw that Spice Room launched a special new lunch menu, I was sold. I ordered the Spice Room Thali, which comes with an entree of your choosing (veg and non-veg options available), one potato samosa, daal soup, naan, papadum, spicy onion pickle, [a TON of] basmati rice, and kheer for dessert, all for $14.99. For my entree, I went with chicken tikka masala, and wow...by far some of the best Indian food I have had in Denver! The portion contained plenty of chicken that was perfectly cooked, and the medium spice definitely had a nice kick. Spice Room reminded me just how amazing good Indian food can be. I have a pretty big appetite and think the Thali could easily feed 2. Pickup was easy peasy -- once I arrived at Spice Room, I alerted the restaurant via a link they provided on Toast Tab, and within a few minutes, somebody brought my food out to my car, completely contactless. Once I got home I realized the naan did not make it into my bag, but I still left with plenty of food, all for $15 + tax/tip. I am definitely coming back!! read more

As an Indian person, I'm shocked that this place has so many good reviews. This Indian food is very bland compared to traditional authentic Indian food. All the spices and flavors that make up the rich cuisine of Indian food have been quartered in all the dishes. This is not authentic Indian food, this is Indian food that has been muted and transformed to be flavorless. We tried this place last night and loved it! My sister and I are usually hesitant about Indian restaurants because home cooked is so much better but we had a craving for butter chicken last night so checked out this place and it definitely impressed. We ordered the mushroom and peas curry, the butter chicken, samosas, garlic naan, and jalapeño and cheese naan. The curries were creamy and spicy without being oily (tough to find in Indian restaurants) and the samosas and naan were super flavorful. I really have to be updating my Spice Room review just to remind you guys how damn good they are. Took Alfie last night and he was also a major fan! We got the Chicken Tikka Masala hot, and Mattar Paneer medium, and Channa Saag medium and all were phenomenal. I will say I can't wait to have this dang baby and be able to tolerate spice again because I would have liked the two mediums hot as well. Hot had an excellent heat that was pleasant and nowhere near overwhelming so if you like spice I highly recommend you try it even though they will question you lol We also had Onion Banji to start and given that there was no booze for me I tried their Indian lemonade. The lemonade was super unique but just a word of advice they put Cumin in there so it is more of a savory beverage. It was like nothing I've ever tried before. I am glad I checked it out. The quality of the ingredients really is what sets Spice Room apart. As Alfie mentioned when we were raving about our meal on the way home, some places in a stew like setting will try to slip in lower quality of meats, however the chicken that Spice Room used was succulent breast meat, that literally was so tender it just melted in your mouth. Also I think my favorite dish was the Channa Saag which we usually get Saag Paneer but we didn't want two cheese dishes as it can be a bit cheese heavy...omg how have I never gotten it with chickpeas before??? They also become very tender from the cooking process and we both agreed it was a highlight of the dinner. Given that this pregnancy is giving me heartburn 24/7 (like literally from drinking water sometimes) I can say with certainty this was 100000x worth the heartburn I got from the spices (not spice rooms fault, I blame it solely on Hank) and I am seriously considering eating 10 tums again and having some more for breakfast. Best Indian food in Colorado! We love dining in, but with young kids this has been a delivery staple for us! We went here after a long day of travel around Denver. Great staff! Extremely fast service. We got everything we ordered in about 6 mins flat which was wonderful! Tried their lahsuni gobi (wasn't crispy as described), creamy tomato soup which was unique but more chunky than creamy but yum, malai kofta was really good and butter naan! They also gave a complimentary papad platter which was nice. While the food and staff were good, I feel they can definitely put more effort to keep things (tables and washroom) cleaner, which is a major contributor to the ambience! read more

I'd give this 3.5 stars. I live 2 hours away and we only have 1 indian restaurant. So I really wanted to love this place. We came here on a holiday weekend when they were clearly overrun with dining and take out orders. It's a small restaurant and lots of people waiting at the door to pick up their orders. Wearing masks and all, but still. We started off with the dahi papari and a nice cup of chai. For the main course, we ordered the boneless chicken tandoori, dal makhani with rice and a plain roti to share. Now the dahi papari was very very good. Perfect amount of chatpatta taste. The chai is even better. One of the best I've had. The main course was a little disappointing. We asked for Indian hot, as we both love spicy food. But what we really got was food with chilli powder dusted on top, so it wasn't cooked enough. Ultimately everything tasted decent but with a coating of red chilli powder on top. I do not like eating red chilli powder by itself. So was disappointed. Will recommend not asking for Indian hot to all the spice lovers. The dal makhani did not have the usual taste but I liked the twist to it. They had some rajma in it so pretty authentic as far as ingredients go. The chicken tandoori would've been good without the chilli powder. Comes with onions, tomatoes and peppers grilled. Decent portion size and can be shared properly between 2 people. The roti was plain disappointing. Guess I was expecting a regular gujju roti but got a tandoori roti instead. It was a little dry. But went some way balancing the chilli powder taste on my tongue. This place is pretty good. I do know a couple slightly better Indian food restaurants, but this is pretty high up there. Let's say, top 3. I got the butter chicken and it was actually overwhelmingly butter. Yes, I know the name of the dish is Butter Chicken, but I've never in my life had a butter chicken where the before taste and after taste was butter. It wasn't disgusting. It was just subtle and noticeable. The garlic naan though!!! Yum! And they also give a great portion of rice. Didn't eat in, I did to go. They have a small free parking lot in front, 5 spots. Street parking is also free. I came to get small plates of street food + dessert. This is their original location in West Denver. Very inviting with wood tables and floors and cool inside with soft music being played. I tasted with my favorite drink, Mango Lassi. They sprinkled cashews on top. Nicely sweet and soothing. Which helped when I got a bowl of Spicy Dahl soup made with yellow lentils. Very spicy (great for your sinuses)! Next was the Chicken Malai Tikka kebab. I got 6 pieces of well seasoned chicken on a bed of fresh cabbage. My server was Indira N. She was pleasant to speak with. Other staff kept my water glass filled constantly. For dessert, I got the hot (freshly cooked) Gajar Ka Halwa. It is made with grated carrots, milk & sugar simmered over low heat. It was garnished with cashews & coconut.
