This restaurant doesn't look like much being next to a liquor store, but this Indian food is excellent. I got chicken pakoras, chicken tikka masala, & shrimp curry. The chicken pakoras had generous sized chicken strips with a nicely spiced coating to it. The chicken tikka masala & shrimp curry had abundant flavors & fine kicks of spiciness to it. I ordered them at medium intensity. It may be the best Indian food I've had, but there's another great Indian restaurant named Ashoka in Troy, Michigan. The mushroom manchurian had lots of flavor and wasn't too spicy at all. Garlic naan - a must! This time we also tried the cheese jalapeño naan and really enjoyed it For mains we had the lamb vindaloo (spicy) and the lamb makhani (medium). Absolutely loved them both. I swear I reviewed Spice Room before but I can't seem to find it... maybe I just skipped it due to grubhub. Well I got take out and it was darn good! Neither my husband or I could think of what we wanted for dinner so I just threw Indian out there. So glad my husband took me up on it! We got Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and cheese naan with extra butter (will always ask for extra butter on top from here on out)! Everything was spot on... even the naan travelled well. I'm drooling just thinking about this meal. I'm glad it's supposed to be super cold later this week because I may suggest it again to warm us up! Tasty neighborhood spot with good value! We were really impressed with our take out meal from Spice Room. This place is popular! We ordered on a whim on Thursday (order and pay ahead on their website!). The estimated wait time was 35 min after ordering so I was expecting the place to be slow when I picked up the food but it was packed! I showed up right at pick up time and the food was labeled and waiting on a table by the entrance with other pick up orders. Their kitchen seems very efficient! We had never ordered from Spice Room before so I wasn't sure what to expect for portion sizes. Turns out it's pretty reasonable and we had tons left over! Most of the entrees come with a generous side of rice so you're really getting 2 for 1! We ordered butter chicken, chana masala, tandoori vegetables, and garlic naan (~$60). Both the butter chicken and chana masala came with rice so it was so much food! We ended up getting 5 meals (2 dinners for 2 & 1 lunch for 1) out of the food. Great value! You could definitely get away with 2 entrees for 2 people. Everything we tried was tasty! My favorite was the butter chicken but I've never met a butter chicken I didn't like. The tandoori vegetables were also surprisingly great! The veggies had nice flavor and were not over cooked/mushy like I've had at some other places. The dish also included tofu-it was way more than a boring side of veggies! I also really enjoyed the cumin basmati rice. It had toasted cumin seeds and clove in the rice which gave great flavor. The chana masala was yummy but a little on the spicy side for us. We ordered all the dishes "medium" spice level but this one was spiciest. I like to think that I can handle spicy food but it gave us a bit of a run for our money haha. It was still manageable but I would order one level less next time. Discovered this place through Tock - the food reservation website, which recommended this place to be one of the best Indian restaurants around, so naturally I had to try this out. I made a reservation for 4 and was genuinely excited to try this place out. For appetizers we had - aloo tikki chat, chicken malai kebab and onion bhaji. For main course - chicken vindaloo and veg makhani. We paired the food with some wine and bullet naan. Overall, the starters were great. The chicken was soft and tender, the aloo tikki chat had the distinct Indian tangy/ spicy flavor and the onion bhaji was crispy and well done. The chicken vindaloo was decent, although it didn't have that spice or that well defined rich flavors that a vindaloo is known for. The veg makhani was spot on with all the veggies cooked properly (many restaurants miss this dish by undercooking some veggies and it comes out crunchy which is a big NO). The restaurant s on the smaller side so I'd recommend to make a reservation if you're planning to go on a weekend. There's limited parking outside so be prepared to find a parking spot nearby on the street. The servers are polite and knowledgeable, and the service was good. The prices are honestly very reasonable which was a huge surprise and a big plus. I'd love to visit this restaurant again and try out some more food. My new obsession. I've ordered take out from the Spice Room for the last two evenings. First of all, I love that they offer Deliver Zero containers. These are re-usable to-go containers so we don't have to put additional items in the landfill (I don't trust that plastic actually gets recycled). So this is a huge plus. Please join me in using this cool service. The first night I ordered Chili Paneer and the Aloo Green Beans. Wow-really wonderful, crave-able food. The second night we got Aloo Tikki Chat and my bf got the Chicken Curry, which he loved. We tried both the cheese naan and the garlic cheese naan which had a lovely flavor. Not as greasy and cheesy as I normally like, but cheese naan isn't traditional anyway. We both agreed that the big stand out was the Aloo Green Beans. So delicious! We ordered a few appetizers and two entrees all of which were delicious! The momo soup was so good and very different than what I normally have at an Indian restaurant. We got all the 'cocktails with an Indian twist'. Our favorite was the chai martini would highly recommend! All the waiters were so kind and made the experience that much better. My FAVORITE Indian food in Denver- and they just opened up a new location on Colfax closer to my neighborhood! This place is just absolutely amazing- portions are huge, food is incredible. The crust on the samosas is thin and flakey and deep fried to perfection. The paneer dishes (my usual choice as a vegetarian) are creamy, smooth and irresistible. Had an unpleasant experience for my first time at Spice Room. Entrees took about 40 minutes to get to our table and the chicken biryani I ordered was insanely spicy even though I ordered for mild. My stomach was hurting from how spicy it was after. I didn't want to return the dish since they were packed for NYE service so I decided to eat what I could. I ordered a few items from this place for take-out and was disappointed that some dishes did not contain all of the ingredients as listed on the menu. For example, the Dahi Papari is supposed to come with potatoes and chutney, both of which were missing from my order. Very disappointing as it changes the texture and flavor substantially. First, for drinks we had the Moscow mule and the spiked mango lassi. The Moscow mule could've been stronger but we came for the food and not the drinks so we didn't really care. The mango lassi was really yum! Next, we had the garlic naan and it was FRESH and flavorful! We could taste ALL of the garlic in it, it was fantastic. For the main courses, we had chicken curry and chicken masala. FYI - when you say extra spicy they mean EXTRA spicy. It was fire and I loved every hot bite of spicy curry that I ate. We are on a road trip and spent an evening in Denver. The group are non labeled foodies so we were on the hunt for something non traditional. The Spice Room was it. From appetizers (2 different naans, and chicken skewers) to our main course (we all ordered different dishes and shared) the experience was A++. My wife and I come to Denver twice a year for medical reasons. We were looking for a good restaurant close to Colfax. I'm originally from India and my wife is from South Dakota over the years with the help of my sisters and mother learned to cook Indian dishes very well. So she was really interested in visiting. We made a reservation but arrived early and seated in just a couple of minutes. The staff was super helpful and friendly and suggested all kinds of dishes. We overordered but we wanted to try a variety of dishes. They were all very good and the waitresses also gave some hints to my wife. I don't know which was better, the staff or the food. Don't miss out on this gem of an Indian restaurant. We will definitely be visiting again when we come again this summer sometime. Highly recommended -- and I don't do this very often. read more

Recently there was a glitch in our online order, but it was our fault, having not finalized the order. I went to pick it up but had to reorder again. My wait was enjoyable. The ambiance. The aromas. And the kindness offered to me by way of a hot tea. Their excellent food is surpassed by their kind staff. They even waived the tip. We love this place so much so we're here again during quarantine to keep this place going. We ordered our usual: garlic cheese naan, chicken biryani, and mushroom saag (medium spicy). The flavor profile for each dish is out of this world. I don't think we've ordered anything we disliked here. They are very generous in portions, even ordering to go! This usually lasts us at least two more meals. Beware of the spice level, it definitely builds the more you eat it so medium was good for us. It is hands down one of the best Indian restaurant we've ever eaten at. Every time I try a new place, I'm filled with immediate regret for not coming here in the first place. Love this spot in the neighborhood. They always have small touches to make each dish special. Like for mango lassi, they top it with chopped pistachios. Their naan has nigella seeds that give it a nice flavor pop. Today I ordered the chai, which is milky, sweet, and aromatic. The Baingan Bharta lunch special was less spicy and more creamy in color today. It's my fav dish and I explained this to the very sweet waitress. She informed me their head chef was at the new location. She was happy to refund my meal, but that's not what I wanted. Maybe worth checking out the other location. Tired this place for lunch buffet. Parking was easy and there was no wait. Lots of options for $11.99, soft drinks included :) They serve hot fresh naan at the table. For appetizer they had veg samosa, pakora and fried broccoli. Veg samosa was the best of all. For mains they had 4 types of chicken curries which I feel could have been a different choice of meat rather than all chicken. Chicken tikka masala and curry were excellent. For vegetarian they had saag paneer, veg korma, dal tarka and chana. Sadly the veggie dishes were very salty.
