I will grant that this place is cheap, but it's not worth it. I ordered a tom kha gai (or "chicken coconut soup"), vietnamese egg rolls, and drunken noodles with tofu. Delivery took more than an hour, and the soup tasted like it had zero lime (either juice or leaves) in it. But the worst were the egg rolls, which were greasy, unusually dark, and filled with pork that just tasted... off. I didn't finish them for fear of possible consequences. The drunken noodles were fine and heroically proportioned, but pretty flavorless. Overall, I can't recommend this place. read more

We placed a to go order here a few weeks ago, and went to the wrong location. We did not realize there were two locations. We went to the first and they did not have our order, nor mention the other location. This location called us and explained what happened.. We ordered a couple of appetizers and an entree each. The gyoza and spring rolls were excellent, but none of us were ready for the quality of the dishes and the portion size of each. The location is quite new and the atmosphere inside was very pleasant, so I'm really hoping more people discover it and help it grow as it deserves. I called in an order for takeout and the lady taking my order was very friendly. we got shrimp pad thai, panang curry, shumai and Vietnamese egg rolls. The sauce for the egg rolls was amazing and the shumai was really good too. The pad thai was good but could definitely use a little more spice. I thought it was interesting that they didn't ask me how spicy I wanted it. The curry was also very tasty and had the perfect amount of spice. The value of this place was great. The wife and I have eaten here twice. The first time, we ordered take out, and last time we ate in. I got the kung pao chicken both times. It's a seemingly-Thai preparation. I've never had kung pao chicken that was made with coconut milk before, but it's delicious. The vegetables that they use are fresh. There were bell peppers and onions along with a generous portion of chicken and the traditional peanuts. My wife enjoys the pot stickers, and I did, too. They're full of meat. We order ours fried, but you can get them steamed if you like. They came perfectly-cooked and with a nice presentation. Last time, she ordered sesame chicken. It's pretty tasty, but most appealing is that it comes served with fresh steamed broccoli. I really appreciate it when a restaurant takes the time and effort to use fresh, not frozen vegetables. It shows that the chef cares about the quality of food that is leaving the kitchen. The restaurant is a clean, open space with an ample beer and sake menu. One note: The TV was on when we were there, and it was fairly loud where we were sitting, but we were still able to engage in conversation. I'm sure that they would have turned it down a bit had we asked. Neither the wife nor I had adult beverages, but they are available if you choose to partake. This will be my go-to Asian restaurant in the neighborhood. Food quality is good. Two meals, a single non-alcoholic beverage, and an appetizer came to right around $30, so the prices are reasonable as well. We will return. read more

Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that usually when I order Thai food restaurants will ask you how hot you want the food and they did not. I think they did not ask about the spicy ness because it's an Asian fusion restaurant not an all Thai restaurant. Nonetheless it was very decent pad Thai. Boyfriend has Thai Bbq Chicken and it was very delicious! I loved the peanut sauce covering the chicken. Also the Spinach wontons were very delicious as well ! Wow! We walked in today and this place is beautiful, very clean and the staff was very friendly! There were 9 of us in our party, and all of us raved about the food! Very fresh, speedy delivery to our table and HUGE portions! Most of us walked away with leftovers. The service at Spicy Basil was the best service I've had in years!!! The servers are very attentive! The food comes on huge platters so there's definitely enough to share, or to take for left overs. The prices are very reasonable, absolutely a good deal. Plus when we went they were doing a special - half off wine and only $1.50 for any beer you want. My boyfriend ordered hot and sour soup, and it was too spicy for him, so he set it aside. We love this place! We've been going there for several years. The Yushan Eggplant is fantastic and I suggest adding shrimp to make it double-fantastic. If you asked me what my favorite restaurant is, I would say here. Their udon was amazing, I recommended getting the udon with shrimp because the shrimps are huge and very good. This is my family's go-to for Thai takeout. Delivery time is always quicker than it says it will be. They were even on time during a massive hail storm. The service here is great and the place clean but I don't find it to be a good place for pad Thai and I don't know why other reviews would say it is good, it is not. The bean sprouts aren't fresh, the noodles over cooked, too much onion and the chicken is fatty. "Medium" spice level is hardly spicy at all, so get things hotter than you think you want them here. I haven't actually stepped foot in this restaurant, but while dog sitting at my sisters place in the Wash Park neighborhood I've ordered from them three times within one week. I don't understand the negative reviews the food is always fast, hot, and so delicious! I'm a sucker for the Drunken Noodles (spicy which I specify and they deliver the right amount of spice) I also enjoy the Wontons as well. My last order tonight they hooked me up heavy with the Drunken Noodles which makes for amazing leftovers. I ordered the Satay chicken appetizer via delivery. Unfortunately after I took a bite and swallowed it I found the texture odd, when I cut a piece open I saw it was VERY undercooked(see photo). I called the restaurant to tell them they are sending out undercooked chicken and all the lady I spoke with would focus on was refunding the $5 I paid for the chicken Satay. I explained that I didn't want the money I just didn't want to have eaten the uncooked chicken they sent me and I didn't want other people getting the same thing I did. WOW just this place is absolutely Scrumdiddlyumptious one of the best Thai places I have been to in a very long time besides (Wild Ginger) and coming for me that says something! The Thai iced tea was so refreshing and nice & sweet but not too sickey sweet like a lot of other places are ,and just the perfect amount of cream I also had the appetizer beef salad and the peanut lamb appetizer the meat was so tender on both dishes it could almost melt-in-your-mouth I absolutely recommend this place to anybody that has the desire to eat Thai food like I do. Peanuts are one of my favorite nuts, they make their sauce extremely wonderful with lots of flavor and spice's.
