NOT BAD NOT BAD (Warning: Young adults from Central Florida in for vacation) This is a simple, coffee shop that seems like it has potential to be even greater, but is happy being pretty good at where it is presently. Most coffee shops in this area are cafes where the emphasis is on the food, and I always feel intrusive when I drag my laptop inside for work. At SPL, this is welcomed, and the simple menu (Some pastries and a couple breakfast items) allows more focus to be placed on good coffee. JUST CHILLING INSIDE With the huge windows, it's nice and bright inside contrasted with mostly uncomfortable looking seating and plain tables. I wish there was actually MORE seats and more variety of seats (another couch maybe?) but I can't complain much because it wasn't busy during our visit. The entrance's door would occasionally creep open giving the illusion that someone was about to enter but never did- there was no rhyme or reason to what would cause this. Just weird, but it wasn't a negative. COFFEE KEPT ME WORKING There's a couple strong 'gram attractions like the unique coffee cups and wall, neon sign, but thankfully the drinks are not just limited to appealing superficially. While my order doesn't break my level of top shops with the espresso-based drink ever (although their cold coffee was pretty good), I'd return if I was in this area and looking for a place to hangout with good caffeine. read more

The vibe of this place is so strange. I wouldn't call it rude but just strangely unfriendly - everyone here is glazed over and dead in the eyes from the cashier to the barista. Ugh, I love getting coffee here so much! Plenty of parking, delicious coffee, cute and simple atmosphere, and the best part - they are super dog friendly. Everytime I visit, there is at least one dog, and all of them wag their tails and some even come to greet me. My heart melts everytime! We need more dog friendly places like this. read more

If there's one thing I absolutely love about living in KTown, it's the fact that my caffeine addiction will always be satiated just a hop, skip, and jump away. SPL is a quaint shop on 3rd Street with a minimalistic aesthetic. You have a fair amount of tables that you can catch up on studying or chat with a friend or two. Parking is also available in a few designated spots, something huge you have to consider when you get around LA. The menu has your tried and true variety of coffee shop essentials. Something amazing you should absolutely try out is the dry kapp though. Two shots of espresso, a tad of simple syrup, and some dry foam to top it all off. FYI it's pronounce "SPILL" Use the Yelp 20% off your first order while it lasts! That way you won't feel guilty ordering almond milk for $1 extra ;) wow, the almond milk latte was SUPERB! SO smooth. I was really impressed. And it was HUGE. I think I got the small, but WOW, this was like a supersize version for the same price as my usual lattes. The chair to table height was a little steep at the counter, and the tables were a little too small, so that is my only complaint. Seems like they were made for really tall people or short people. But the coffee itself is amazing. So was the barista, who happily offered to appease my caffeine concerns by making a half caff version. The interior is nice and the music is good for working. I like how bright and airy it feels, and slightly minimal but not overkill. The feel is modern and cool. Finally, a coffee shop in LA with its own parking! Albeit, the parking lot is small but nonetheless hassle-free parking in LA is a huge PLUS. Loved the decor and style of this shop. Concrete countertop tables . The cold brew was good. I'd say it was average in terms of depth and taste but the price was great! The price beats most hipster coffee shops in LA. A friend of mine ordered a cappuccino (for me) and lemonade (for him) here at SPL Coffee, located in the heart of Koreatown. It was perfect and beautifully made so I had to take a picture. Although it was a little on the bitter side ((for me) I like my coffee super sweet), it was still delicious and I made sure to drink everything before leaving. I always come to this place to study, work, and read and is now one of my favorite local cafes they even have those metal straws, which make it a pretty upscale coffee shop. 10/10 recommend for working and full-time students. Can I just say that I am literally obsessed with this place? My friend and I came here for a quick study session before getting dinner with our friends. I had this place bookmarked for a long time, but never got the chance to go until this past weekend. I was so excited! And yes, this place got me even more excited about coming here. Gray walls with white tile floors and a cool mural up against the counter. The wall art is definitely my favorite part, and I think ti's super cute. Also, they did not exhaust the typical LA minimalistic vibes at all that I have been seeing in other coffee shops. They have definitely made this place their own, and I love that. The logo on their wall inside the shop is also super cute! Not too flashy, but bright enough to really uplift the gray wall. Whoever designed this place is freaking amazing! Their menu selection is pretty simple, but I really love how they are really humble with the amount of drinks they have. It's not Starbucks overwhelming or underwhelming like other coffee shops, but they do have some fun with making different kinds of coffee. They also have fresh-baked pastries which looked really amazing. I am definitely going to get that next time for sure. Prices are at typical Koreatown rates of $4-$6. But, I honestly think it's worth it. In terms of their drinks, I got their vanilla latte with almond milk. Their vanilla latte is one of their most popular drinks, and I totally understand why. They make their vanilla syrups in house. And wow! I was literally blown away by the first sip. I think this place did SUCH a great job on making my vanilla latte! It had that rich vanilla flavor, and the almond milk really compliments the coffee in the latte. They also gave me and my friend a huge portion of it, and I could barely finish my drink, but it was still so freaking good! Service is definitely top-notch here. I talked to the barista, and she was super chill. She wasn't stuck up like other baristas I met, but she was really cool and was super chill in explaining to me how their syrups are made in-house. She also did a fantastic job in making my drink, so major props to her! I forgot her name, but I think she'll know it's her when she reads this. Parking is free! Small lot, but not valet. I know once this place gets the kind of recognition it deserves, it will definitely get crowded. The place itself is not that big, so be careful in coming here to study for awhile. The parking will get full, but it's so worth coming. Overall, great coffee at a good price for the quality of the drink. Any who, checked this out yesterday and got a basic drip coffee ($3 but around $2.85 with the 20% off Yelp check-in). I think they're still doing their soft opening so he offered my friend and I a free pastry. We both got a chocolate chip cookie, really great and soft with a hint of sea salt. Karen takes great pride is using only the finest ingredients to make the perfect cup of coffee. It turns out that her passion for coffee embarked her on a mission to learn everything that she can which led her to create SPL (spill the beans). I really loved how my iced latte wasn't too sweet and waa surprised to learn that all the syrups were made in the house. SPL is located in a strip mall alongside a Korean restaurant and Thai BBQ. I noticed that some of the parking spaces specifically indicated which establishment it's for. SPL has 2-3 spaces directly in front of the cafe. My initial impression was that the place was very clean! I stayed for about 2 hours and the entire time she was busy cleaning. She kept on sweeping, mopping, and even making sure that the self-serve water was cold. That's a pretty awesome work ethic, most baristas just sit behind the counter and are on their phones. I got a vanilla latte and it's served in a ceramic crushed solo cup look-a-like. Not too sweet or strong; very mild. About $6 for the latte, including a $1 tip. Staying consistent with my noble quest of finding coffee shops in which one can be productive, spl. coffee was one of those shops I paid a visit (or two or three). The number one most attractive quality about spl. is its parking! Yes, it is a tiny parking lot and there are several other businesses that share it with spl., but a small lot is better than nothing. Fortunately, I've gotten lucky acquiring a spot here. Interior-wise, this coffee shop is minimal and aesthetically-pleasing if it's potential Instagram posts you had in mind. Coffee here is splendid and the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable about their craft. My favourites here are the Latte and the Dry Kapp. The latter is served iced with two shots of espresso, a fair amount of syrup (so that the drink has a perfect sweetness to it), and dry foam layer on top. It's a perfect drink to order on miserably hot days. Actually, just come here on a miserably hot day, order a Dry Kapp, and hang out a little. It's the ideal reprieve from the LA heat! Unlike other coffee shops I frequented, I found I couldn't stay here long for two main reasons. First, the tables are quite small especially if you were to share between two people. With many journal articles to read through, papers to look at for reference, interviews to transcribe, I needed more space as I wrote my thesis. Second, they close quite early compared to some Ktown coffee shops I frequented more. Some of those coffee shops close at midnight and one even closes at 3am. I'm an spl. fan but I found I couldn't be my most productive self here. Too bad because I really did like the ambience (the music wasn't too loud and the baristas weren't talking loudly amongst themselves). However! It's perfect for hanging out and doing more pleasurable things such as reading for fun or playing a card game with a friend. Decent coffee and a nice place to study! I came by on a Saturday afternoon and the cafe was actually not too crowded. I was surprised since most cafes in KTown are pretty packed on Saturdays with either people studying or chatting. I ordered an Iced Oat Vanilla Latte and it was really good! I appreciate the non-dairy options and the drink itself wasn't too sweet which is to my liking. There are a couple of outlets available in the cafe and studying there was nice. People weren't being too loud and the music wasn't distracting. Parking can be found either in front of the cafe or you can also find parking in the residential area nearby with plenty of spots open. I can definitely see myself coming back and would recommend studying here and even just trying their coffee! read more

I lived across the street when they first opened and was pleasantly surprised that they actually had good coffee. Why I kept going back besides the coffee was the hospitality of the owners who are just young, cool peeps. So I moved away about eight months ago, and started coming back by about a month ago. THIS PLACE HAS VALET-LESS PARKING LOT!! OMG SUCH A DREAM IN KTOWN! This is a big reason that led me here along with the aesthetic of this place lol. I came here one afternoon and there were a few customers inside, the cashier was really nice. I got just a regular latte which I like - it would be nice with a little less milk and more coffee though but it was good regardless. My friends and I were there for like 3 hours and they didn't kick us out which I appreciate lol since we were kind of loud too. I really like the decoration of this place so minimalist but still so hipster, it has a clean look too. I would definitely come back here to study next time I'm in Ktown. Just a warning there are only like a few tables along the wall with plugs and there are only a few small tables in the middle. Recently I just found out some exciting news ..... they now serve small breakfast items! Besides the already delicious pastries, they offer open face sandwiches and breakfast bowls. I ordered the prosciutto and arugula toast togo, and it was served on this delicious warm rustic bread, with a homemade Dijon spread. Sprinkled with salt/pepper and some other goodies, it was so delicious !!
