Parking is kinda tough and the restaurant has limited seating, but it's right next to the beach (with plenty of outside tables & chairs), but you GOTTA stop in for the clam chowder in a bread bowl. I had mine with bacon & green onions (and it was delicious) but next time, I'll just get the chowder in the bread bowl - the green onions kinda masked the true chowder flavor. Wow! Worth the wait ! We were in Pismo for a baseball tournament and decided on splash initially because it was highly recommended almost didn't stay because of the long line but so glad we did . Wanted to write a new review because I decided to try the Lobster roll! They have specials every day so I would definitely take advantage of that if I was a local. Food - The chowder is still quite delicious but the Lobster roll had an incredibly generous amount of meat and the roll itself was amazing. Every bite was heaven. Definitely try it if you get the chance. Service - A little hit or miss. Sometimes they're very friendly to greet you, sometimes they seem a little upset that it's already busy once the doors open. But you can't really help it, you know? The place is incredibly popular so the line was out the door as soon as the restaurant opens! Ambiance - Lots of seating, especially at the back of the restaurant. If not, take your food and go enjoy it by the pier or at the beach just a few blocks away - walking distance! First real dining experience at Pismo Beach! Had to see what all the hype was about with their clam chowder, because I've tried New England clam chowder at Boston and several incredible spots in New York and San Diego. I'm not a clam chowder expert at all, but we REALLY enjoyed Splash Cafe's clam chowder, fully loaded! Had breakfast there, so we had to also indulge in their breakfast burrito - filling, big, and definitely up to par with local Los Angeles breakfast burritos. All in all, definitely a must try and we could see what all the hype was about. Cleared the clam chowder in a matter of minutes. Parking is very limited so keep that in mind when visiting this small town. We rented a hotel room nearby so thankfully didn't have to deal with parking headaches. Best advice is to avoid peak times like holidays or early summer days when everyone's yearning for the beach life. Service is wonderful and fast. I believe there's sitting outside but we didn't confirm that. Inside seating is very limited, so just be aware if you'd like to dine in on a rainy day. Ambience and environment is very down to earth, easy going, and has a family-oriented feel to it. Great for families and fun dates, but I'd pass if you're looking for a romantic spot. Overall, very happy we got to experience their clam chowder hype. I wouldn't say their clam chowder was the best we've ever tried, but it definitely met up to its expectations. If you haven't practiced your patience and calm lately, do not come here on a busy Saturday. But the hubby really wanted to have their clam chowder and the line is so long that I could have walked around the boardwalk 5x before he got to the ordering counter but that's a sign that it must be good, right ? Once he placed our orders, he waited in another area toward the side where costumers complained on and on. Imagine waiting in that long line to order food and see the people behind you walk away with their orders first. Yup, that was the situation here so be prepared for all that. This is a small corner establishment and there are some few seats inside. Though, I wouldn't want to eat inside if we got "lucky" enough to grab a seat with this line/crowd staring at and breathing over you as you eat. I recommend you take your food to the boardwalk where there are some available tables. It's a better view for sure and offers much breathability. Ok, now to food. We ordered two quart sized clam chowder bowls in containers because that's easier for take out. My husband got his clam chowder "fully loaded" and I added clams, green onions and bacon bits. The clam chowder really is good here and we understood the hype afterwards. For me, it didn't really need bacon because that topping made it saltier but that didn't stop me from eating it. The fully loaded comes with seafood mix, cheese, green onions and bacon. My husband thought it was the best clam chowder so far. We also ordered a Lobster Roll (sandwich) that was OK. I had a bite and although they didn't skimp on Lobster, it was lacking in flavor. But they do hand you packets of ranch and a cocktail type sauce so I guess you can sauce it up the way you like. And we had 1lb of clams in tomato sauce with bread. Now, that was delicious. I wasn't happy with the few clams that were sealed but overall, it was very tasty and super saucy! If you like tomato based dishes, try the clams, dip the bread in the sauce and soak up the flavor. It was getting "boozy" on the boardwalk so we took our food to eat in our RV and enjoyed the ocean breeze from the comforts of our second home haha! All in all, we spent close to an hour from the time we ordered food to pick up. I literally shopped and walked the boardwalk with our senior dog while the hubby did all the hard work of waiting very patiently. We were kind of late in the evening just looking for a snack. I had a bowl of clam chowder with a side of toast and my husband had bread pudding with whipped cream. The service was quick and friendly. I really loved my toast, I thought that was a better option than a bread bowl since I don't really know what to do with those. My clam chowder was also good, especially the abundance of clams, but was a little bland. It tasted great with pepper. If I got it again, I would add at least one topping, like green onions or bacon. Splash on Pismo beach has the most delicious clam chowder! I got mine in a bread bowl with bacon and cheese. We should of split one omg way up much to eat! The take the sourdough bowl and remove the bread inside they grill that and serve it on the side with the bread bowl top. So much to eat. I loved dipping the grilled sourdough onto the chowder.
