I know this place is known for their steaks, but I would return for the BISCUITS, BURATTA, and BRUSSELS SPROUTS alone!!!!!! They were all SO delicious and flavorful. 2/3 of our steaks were cooked to perfection, one was a little overdone but not enough to send it back or complain and was still tasty. I (wrongly) ordered a side of garlic butter to go with my Wagyu - it definitely did not need any sauces or additions. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, allowed us plenty of time to enjoy our meal and we did not feel rushed at all. What a splendid brunch! My partner and I went on a Saturday morning and we were so impressed! Such a unique but cute interior. I was into it but it doesn't look like your usual steakhouse! We started off with a half order of the biscuits with pimento cheese (2 biscuits instead of 4) and they were HEAVENLY. Honestly wish I got the full order just because it was that good. I ordered the French toast and my boyfriend got the steak and eggs. The steak and eggs also come with the potatoes! It would be remiss to say that Sat. Anselm is just a steakhouse because honestly it is more than that. Came here for a bday dinner on a Saturday night - easy & free parking at the union market lot - had a 6pm rsvn and got seated early. The place was happening - loud and boisterous like most taverns. Service was excellent - 10/10. From our server to the buss folks - they were on top of it from cleaning our tables, removing used utensils etc- very attentive and with a huge smile Food - 8/10 above average for tavern food - everything was pretty good - buttermilk biscuits, waldorf salad, oysters, ribeye, dorade, broccoli - all very tasty. I especially liked the smokiness of the broccoli. For dessert we tried the sweet corn ice cream - not my taste but the wife thought it was great. The one I did not like was the tables were jam packed and there was no privacy for conversations - i heard entire conversations on the tables next to us whether we wanted too or not. Also the server of the other table wedge himself between the table when he was talking to the guests and would pretty much have his butt in my face the whole time, lol - not a pleasant sight .Due to this and the loudness of the place i would say 5/10 for ambiance. This is our second time visiting (took a friend from out of town). Ocne on a weeknight and one weekend evening. Both times the service and food were on point. The also able have a sommelier on stuff which I think is pretty cool for those who love wine. We ate at St. Anselm on a Wednesday evening and were so pleasantly surprised! The staff were very kind and attentive, and we were able to see the kitchen from all over the restaurant. The decor is a little odd and Americana but interesting. As far as the food, we started with the biscuits and pimento cheese and the Iceberg salad. Both were good, but the biscuits were INCREDIBLE. Even without butter or cheese, they were perfectly salty, moist and crispy on the outside. For the main, we got the Peruvian style chicken with a perfectly spicy green sauce. We also ordered the butcher's steak and the NY strip with au poivre sauce. Both steaks were slightly underdone but immensely flavorful and seared to a tee (the au poivre sauce was so so good, we got extra on the side). On the side, we got corn (sweet, charred, buttery), creamed spinach (not overly salty), and pan fried mashed potatoes (very good but we agreed felt more breakfasty than dinnery). Overall, we really enjoyed this meal and are excited to visit St. Anselm again soon! read more

We started off with the Beef Tartare with the Calabrian Chilis and the Endive Salad with Walnuts, Smoked Blue Cheese, Anchovy Vinaigrette. Decided on a brunch day with my sister and her friends. Truly delicious food and excellent service during the middle of a pandemic. I would highly recommend making reservations ahead of time as this restaurant can be pretty busy. Outdoor seating is available (which is what we chose) and there are heaters in place to keep you warm. I personally really enjoyed their salmon bagel. This is a brunch review for a large (8 person party). I'll start with the downsides, it was quite busy and we did have a large party but it took nearly an hour for our food to be served after ordering which was frustrating but the wait staff gave us updates as we went which was appreciated. The other downside was the side of bacon cost $13 which seems steep but I guess that can be avoided if need be. On the plus side; the drinks and refills were quick, and the service was attentive. All the good was quite good and I'd suggest that they may have the best pancakes in the city (and really well priced at $13). They also had the best method of paying the check that I've seen. Instead of having to use one card and venmo that person or asking for 8 separate checks, they had a QR code on the bill and if you scanned it you could go in and each person could select the exact individual items they ordered and pay for them separately. It was honestly the best thing and made sure no one got overcharged and saved so much time and math--would love every restaurant to use this tool! read more

Our server was incredibly stand-offish to our group for a majority of the time and would not give any sort of helpful answers to our questions. For example, I asked if it was possible for a side of bacon with my meal and instead of explaining that their thick cut bacon is not the conventional one person slice of thick cut, she was just trying to dodge around it. Food was very mediocre and very overpriced, I got the cheddar cheese omelet and it was incredibly unseasoned and unflavored. Same with the side of potatoes. Visited St. Anslem tonight and everything from the host stand to the food was amazing. This restaurant is truly a gem, and you should definitely consider going if you are reading this review. We had a reservation for 5:00pm, and were sat immediately. We were greeted by our server within 3 minutes. Our server was amazing, she explained the menu so that we did not have a lot of follow up questions. Drinks were nicely made and balanced. The food the food the food was top notch and cooked to perfection. The food also didn't take long to come to our table. The ambiance is nice and relaxed. The restaurant allows you to be relaxed and not dress up, while still enjoying 5 star food. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice steak and even more. I typically do not give 5 star reviews but St. Anslem deserves nothing less. read more

You're best option is to get a booth if they're available. After reading the reviews we had to opt for the biscuits and pimento cheese. The cheese was creamy and smooth with a slight kick. While the biscuits were warm and soft. For a side dish I chose the pan fried potatoes which was a shareable size. They were underwhelming to say the least and lacked in flavor. Came here on a solo date and got to sit at the bar I. front of the kitchen and watch the well oiled machine that is St. Anselm operate. The ribeye I had was sooo delicious but the fried mashed potatoes 16 Oz Prime Ribeye really were the highlight. I haven't had anything like it before. The salmon collar is TO DIE FOR! it is seasoned so well, cooked to perfection, and more than big enough for the table to share. That plate always gets taken away with nothing but bones left. The sides are pretty basic but you can tell care was given while cooking them. My go to is the NY Strip with the au poivre. The service is always good also, I have no complaints. As a long time vegetarian, I never thought I'd say a steakhouse is one of my favorite brunch spots. But here we are. While I cannot speak to the quality of this place's steaks, and personally could not care less about that, I can say the non-meaty food here is top tier. The biscuits were of absolutely astounding quality (buttery, flaky, crispy, my mouth is watering just thinking about them). The pancakes were fluffy and sweet, and the omelette savory and balanced. I'd recommend coming here hungry and going with someone you're willing to split a sweet and savory with for the best breakfast experience. And you must get the biscuits, it would be a sin not to! Had this on my try outs for awhile and finally got to do so. Upon entry the decor and ambiance give calm, sophisticated and moody cigar lounge like aesthetic. We opted for the outdoor booths as there seemed to be a full house, luckily the booths were warm and the weather out wasn't too bad even in December. The menu options was a one page mostly a la carte items. The deviled eggs with crab had chunks of crab meat in it and even had some weight to the little suckers, seasoned nicely and would've gotten another plate of those for sure. The salmon collar was flaky and flavorful with also still being moist with that grilled flavor. The winner for me which is a shocker really was the sides ! The side of pan fried mashed potatoes and broccoli with lemon really made me wonder how I could replicate this at home, without a doubt would get each time I come here. The monster prawn although seemingly grilled to perfection with their side of decadent butter which I'm sure would've been wonderfully tasty but unfortunately couldn't try, do to a bit of an issue of the way it just seemed to be extremely inedible with the texture and smell. Now with that being said I'm sure it was just a bad batch for the prawns they had that night and that any other night these are a hit. The manager and staff on duty took the time to rectify and accommodate accordingly to this mishap and was extremely extremely professional, courteous and sympathetic. So with all that have been said the service, A1. I appreciate each and every individual we had encountered with St. Anselm even down to the gentleman/waiter who noticed are table wobbling and got down on his knees to help fix it. We thank you all so much for your generosity and professionalism at this establishment and would love to come back and visit possibly making reservations to experience the indoor on our next visit at this wonderful restaurant. If you're looking for a calm, romantic, upscale vibe- this surprisingly is NOT that. I walked in thinking it was a quiet, upscale restaurant and did not get that vibe at all. However, the food delivers! I will say that for the price, I would expect a bit more from the environment and ambiance- at St Anselm you get loud rock music with Cracker Barrel-esque decor. It was hard to hear each other even across a tiny table. Food is rustic yet solid, and service was quite friendly and attentive. If you're lucky with one of the booths, the booths are all separated by large walls so you feel like you're dining in a more private area. So if you can ask for that, it definitely makes the experience feel more luxurious. Their wine list is a bit confusing but the server had plenty of suggestions and seemed pretty knowledgeable on the wine list. We got a bunch of dishes and shared amongst five people. The highlights for me personally were the biscuits which came with a cheddar cheese/butter spread and the salmon collar. Biscuits were super flaky and buttery (definitely not a New Year's resolution type dish) and the salmon had all the good parts of salmon and wasn't overly seasoned.
