I went to Stacks recently with my husband for brunch. We had a great experience there. I really loved the decor. All the greenery and art made for a great environment. I prefer my sausage cooked, the breakfast potatoes were soggy and the service was very slow on a late morning, midweek. The restrooms are horrendous and the fake flowers everywhere are covered in dust. With so many great options in the area, I would not come back. read more

Came here for brunch with a friend at 10:30AM on a Saturday and we were seated immediately upon arrival. Plenty of outdoor seating, which is what we opted for. It did take some time for our server to take our order, but we didn't mind this time because we had so many things to talk about. We each ordered an omelette and got a short stack of banana macadamia nut pancakes to share. The food did come out pretty quickly once we ordered and WOW the portion sizes omg. You will be full if you eat here that's for sure. I really enjoyed my omelette and the potatoes, I ended up taking the bagel home and later found that the bagel was good too, I think they added butter to it because it tasted better than a normal bagel. My friend saw the banana macadamia nut pancakes highlighted by other reviewers on Yelp, and I'm here to tell you that this is TRUE, order these pancakes they're so good!!! The texture of the coconut flakes and the nuts is wonderful with the banana-y batter. You won't regret ordering these!!!! They did give us our check before we asked for it but it's fine I get it, my friend and I were taking a long while to sit and chat. My son and my favorite Mama Son Breakfast Dates location! They're pancakes are amazing, there Mimosas are the best! The service is awesome except for the guy with tattoos one Sunday earlier this year was rude as rude can do! He was the calling names and giving out tables! I asked him can we sit our table was ready and he rudely asked if our party complete? We aren't white by the way cause that's how he made us feel! I said yes only my disabled husband crossing the street! His answer was .. ya have to wait .. when he finally got to the front he made us including my elderky mom stand and wait another 5 minutes! We were ready to leave! This guy is so not the face of Stacks! Now when we come we continue on if we see him at the front! It's been good cause we haven't seen him since? My favorite place to eat breakfast in Burlingame! Everything is so good here. Whenever Im staying in the area I make it a priority to drive over here to eat. Portion sizes are generous, and food is prepared well. Food quality is above average, and staff is friendly and attentive. Several varieties of pancakes available. I've tried a few, and they are all great. Omelets are also great, and there is a nice selection of bread and bagels. If your staying in the area and looking for a great breakfast, try it out, you wont be disappointed. read more

Visited on a Sunday morning for two. Place was packed at 10:30am but we were seated right away in a booth inside. This was our first time and it did not disappoint. We ordered the chicken and waffles, and the corn beef potato skillet. Chicken and waffles (5/5) at $23 - The chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Huge portion, as they gave us half a chicken. Batter was crispy, not oily and a great mix of savory and a hint of maple sweetness. The waffle was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked. It came with a small jar of pure Canadian maple syrup, a pleasant surprise, which complemented the chicken and waffles very well. Chicken gravy and butter was also provided, but we didn't use these as much because the chicken was already so flavorful. Definitely would order this dish again! Corn beef potato skillet (3/5) at $18 - Overall good, but not great. The corn beef was sliced thin and flavorful. The onions were a bit undercooked. Potato hash was solid but could have been crispier. Over easy eggs were perfect. Came with a side of lightly buttered and toasted bagel. Would try something else next time. Great spot for breakfast, little pricey but the food was very good and hot when served. We ordered two skillets, coffee and cranberry juice and the total came to $56.07. Skillet #1 bacon and onions with two eggs over hard, side of sourdough toast. Skillet #2 bacon and onions, hot link and mushrooms with bagel. Service was very good. Alfredo made sure we were satisfied. He left the pot of coffee on our table which was nice. Ambiance was pleasant. A lot of light and not too loud. We were lucky to get a table by the window. I ordered the chicken apple omelette and I was neither impressed nor disappointed. It was a basic omelette and not too bad. The potato's on the other hand were not good. It had a weird taste that I can't really describe. I would maybe get fries next time if they offer it? Not sure if they do. We also ordered a stack of blueberry pancakes to share. The pancakes were huge!! It was more like a cake than a pancake! They were fluffy and the blueberry jam that came with it was delicious as well. The server was great! Their food is just typical breakfast food although not entirely exceptional it's a nice place for a weekend breakfast brunch option. 1) Corned beef hash and onion skillet, twos eggs sunny side up: taste was good, wish the cheese was more melty as it came out kind of lukewarm. It comes with bagel but I changed to wheat toast instead and it tasted a bit stale and dried out. 2) Fried Chicken and waffles: this was the better choice as the fried chicken was crispy and crunchy with good seasonings. The legs were on the smaller size so they were a bit overcooked and dried out. Coffee they left you a pot so it's convenient than flagging a wait staff down for refill. There's a small parking lot across the street and most street parking. read more

A decent brunch spot located in Burlingame. Stacks is a large restaurant with lots of seating both inside and outside. My husband and I came here yesterday for brunch on New Year's Eve and got seated right away. As busy as they were, our server still came around to check in on us multiple times. Too bad they ran out of their house chicken and waffles at 10am. How crazy is that? The new shipment just arrived so they could not serve me the chicken as they needed time to marinate the meat. I appreciate their honesty so I opted for the crab benedict. The hollandaise sauce on the egg benedict was yummy. They used real crab meat so it made sense to charge $18 for the crab benedict. My meal itself was also on the heavier side so I did not finish the whole plate. My husband got the corn beef and onion skillet, which was tasty. We both started our morning with a Bloody Mary. Must say, it was the spiciest Bloody Mary ever. The bacon garnish was good though. I came to stacks on a Saturday afternoon! It was crowded, but I only waited 10 minutes to be seated. The waiter was very attentive and service was prompt! The interior is very cute! There's is a lot of seating, yet the restaurant doesn't feel crowded. I ordered the eggs Benedict, which came with potatoes and a fruit bowl. The meal was very filling and they were very generous with the ham portion. I also ordered the bananrama smoothie. I could tell the fruit is very fresh and it was very refreshing! The Burlingame location is the flagship of all the Stacks. We came here before 9:00am. It was a little too early for me, but the place was pretty packed when we left. Service was quick and attentive. I ordered the mighty meat crepe, and it came with potatoes and a bagel. It was a lot of food, and I was not able to finish all of it. Overall, it was a good place for standard breakfast. read more

We were in a rush on Sunday to get to the airport. They had seats available immediately. The service was fast, which we highly appreciated. We had the regular Benedict and Florentine, which were both mediocre. My spinach in the Florentine looked old and frayed. Something was off in the hollandaise sauce. The French Toast was better, but even then, it was just a notch above ok. My boyfriend's comment of "hey, at least it's better than airplane food" sums it up best. read more

Breakfast done right! Me and my wife have become regular guests here since we moved to the Bay from the Michigan and this is our favorite breakfast spot! We have never had a bad meal here. Consistency is what makes a good restaurant. The quality of the food is always excellent. The service is outstanding! We love the entire staff they always make us feel at home and like family. Stale tortillas, canned & rancid salsa, and undercooked cheese; the restaurant's manager is a disgrace. He should not be in leadership. His response to my request "if you want better tasting Mexican, this is not the place", and "we have no other complaints", and "the people around here don't know the difference". Owner GEOFFREY SWENSON, PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: When I asked him for the bill of just my coffee, and pointed out that at any restaurant in the Bay Area, no matter what the venue, you will find the south of border dishes to be excellent. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Stacks! It was quite buzzing for brunch on a Sunday morning and made for a good mood! We got the short stack blueberry pancake, the yogurt sundae, and a skillet. I'd say the pancake and the sundae were great, the skillet was just good. Their latte was quite good too. They had coffee containers on the outside for those who wait, but there was no coffee left and it was not refilled in the 10 minutes or so that we were waiting, which was a minor negative. A lot of positives though, we'll be back! PS: In a weird way, this restaurant reminded of Cap City Fine Diner in Columbus, Ohio, which you should definitely visit if your travels take you there! read more

Ok, Stacks is one of those Restaurants that have been around for a long time, Pancakes, all kinds of really great egg combinations, a real complete restaurant. The ambiance is something you'll never see in a breakfast place. You're greeted with fresh flowers , iron sculptures , good sunshine. I recently noticed that they have dinners so i've been there twice, first time had the rib eye my friends had meatloaf, the second i had something off the abbreviated breakfast menu, and had pancakes and my wife had pork chops. Very impersonal, they are just there for business and not part of the community. They don't seem to care about their reputation. The food's is okay, not bad, but not top notch either. I am not impressed. The two stars are for the outdoor dining ambience. I have to admit that their outdoor dining area is quite lovely. The decor, tables and umbrella are on point. Other than that our meal was disappointing. My daughters mini mouse pancake was cute but was bland and did not come with a side of butter. My bisquick pancakes tastes better than that. I got the chicken and waffles. The portion was big but lacked flavor. The only thing good about it was the crunchy skin. The waffles were not Belgium waffles, it was just a plain waffle. Then comes my husband's order, he got the steak and eggs, well done. (He cannot handle blood in his steaks, his preference not mine). He gets his order, eggs were cooked fine, potatoes were a little burnt, the bagel had a little butter, so he asked for some cream cheese and that was an extra charge. Then he cuts his steak. It was rare. Not even medium well or medium, it was rare, it was just the way I like it but too bad it wasn't my order and the person that ordered it cannot eat rare. We asked for it to be cooked per order. Server took it back to the kitchen. By the time he got his correct order, we were already done eating. Now time to pay. First our bill came to $60. When it returned for a signature, it was $77. As I talk to the server, she apologized for not removing the steak and the $60 is the bill without the steak. How do you tell me that you removed the steak? If you add up our order with the steak is $60? So after more deliberation, I found out what she meant was that she charged us twice for the steak since they had to create a new one and she took 1 steak off. If you want to feel like your having breakfast in a Paris cafe this is the perfect location. The menu has lots of choices and I have never been disappointed with what I order. I highly recommend the Bacon Waffles (a favorite from my childhood). The customer service is friendly and quick. They will leave a coffee pot or ice tea pitcher on your table if you ask. It can get busy on the weekends but well worth the wait. Tip: ask to be seated away from the door, it can get a little chilly every time it opens. If you drive up the neighborhood street you can get free parking for 2 hours. read more

We've been clients at Stacks for over 20 years. We went to breakfast today and something was amiss. The usual courteous greeting was non-existent and the staff seemed distant. This was a complete reversal of our years of dining here. Service is not welcoming and very slow at a non-peak time. We will try once more, if no improvement we will move on. read more

Iced tea game strong and this alone earns them the four stars. School is out and I am in need of some pampering and self care. After an excellent pedicure a few doors down and a juice clense the day before I was in need of sustainace. While my toes were drying I searched Yelp for seafood options in Burlingame. Then I remembered the crab omelette and fritata at Stacks. I strapped on my sandals and sashayed in. I have not been in years ( pre- pandemic). This restaurant is known for brunch and the wait on the werkends are ridiculous! I don't go near this place, except on weekday mornings, when it feels like a treat to score a coveted booth without a wait and with service that is a little less frenetic. The ambiance is kitschy- charming- Stacks has a kind of nostalgic cheesy ( in a good way) greenhouse feel - fake plants and chandeliers with leather banquettes- kind of reminiscent of Maxwell Plums and Lehr's Greenhouse Restaurant ( no relation). In all honesty, the interior could use a refresh but this location it has a charm that the Redwood City location lacks. They are known for their decadent pancakes and waffles, but I am a fan of their omelettes and frittatas. My boys like their carnitas and chorizo dishes. Their eggs are consistent and never runny or undercooked nor dry, which considering the volume is impressive. Their crab dishes are reasonably priced with generous portions of good quality crabmeat and avocado. Service is friendly, accommodating and above average. Truth be told, their potatoes and bagels that come with their egg dishes are meh... doughy, underbuttered, underseasoned, pale and undercooked, which for me( believe it or not) is a plus, because I can focus on my crabmeat and avocado frittata and indulge in a tiny bit of their decadent Hollandaise on the side without feeling too bloated afterwards. Today I arrived about 1:40 om and was seated qt a booth right away. I ordered quickly and was informed that kitchen would be closing soon. Right away my iced tea and extra lemon was delivered and I sucked it down without even realizing that i had taken a sip, whereupon my waiter came to bring me, unsolicited, exactly what my heart desired. The little carafe of fresh brewed iced tea that I can refill myself witn several extra slices of lemon is everything. Nini's also used to bring larger pitchers of iced tea and i loved them and miss this establishment for many reasons, but for this most of all. Refills on iced tea make me happy, but iI am a high maintenance iced tea drinker and in the summer months, requite infinity refills ( i know... i have a problem, but there ate worse vices) . Stacks makes it easy by providing a three to four serving carafe for me to refill at my leisure. Their iced tea is perfect, never bitter or acidic, not the nasty processed fountain stuff, no extraneous flavors like tropical, spicy cinnamon, lemongrass. It is served as it is brewed. In short... perfect! My frittata was delicious as always lots of crabmeat and avocado and i dipped my fork into the sauce to scatter it ( Jackson Pollock style) over my dish. The relaxing vibe was only slightly marred by the time of day I chose. As I was sipping my tea and taking bites, there were patrons scattered throughout the restaurant and the diligent crew was in shut down mode-yelling acoss the restaurant about schedules ,wiping down tables, marrying jetchup bottles and vacuuming. There were about five other tables of customers, and i took care of my bill immediately upon being served. However as the crew grew louder, I looked down at my phone, I saw that it was 2:17 om. I had overstayed my welcome... the restaurant was closed and the staff was doing their job. With a pointed smiling glance at remaining diners... and in an iced tea, satisfied tummy and foot massage induced state of serenity, i gave an apologetic smile and rose to take my leave, thanking the host profusely on my way out.
