Was so excited to come here to eat after a long day of biking around Newport. The very nice bartender told us to seat ourselves when we walked in. The place was empty so we went to the nearest table. We walked to our seat and before we could even sit down, a man came up to us asking for our ID's. We were a bit confused because we weren't drinking and it was only 5:30 pm. If it were 10pm on a weekend it would make sense. But for early evening mid-week we were surprised. I had left mine at home by accident which I thought would be fine because I was not planning on drinking. I explained this to him and he refused to let us in. I said he could watch me very closely because I really just wanted to eat and had absolutely no plans to drink anything. It was especially odd because there was no one in the restaurant, it was completely quiet, so it was odd to me that they would deny service. It's a lowkey place to grab a beer/drink and some good food. TV screens are on with sports games. The other places at Newport Beach can be very noisy. We both got really good hamburgers. I went here for the night bar with my friends and I couldn't tell if the bouncer was just rude or extremely sarcastic. I show him my driver's license, and he says, "I can't take this" and shakes his head. I tell him this happens a lot. A little background story my photo is a bit zoomed in and bars think it's fake when it's 100% real. I always carry my passport card for this reason now, which is annoying to have always to have a second proof of identification. After he reviewed my passport card he told me to get a motorcycle pic. I told him I don't ride a motorcycle. He goes "Then get one" very rude sarcastically. It ruined the vibe, I just wanted to have a fun time for my friend's birthday. All I was thinking was what if I didn't have my passport card, my real ID would be denied? Even worse, possibly taken? And I was the designated driver that night. This bouncer needs to be trained more on how to identify different IDs. Or you'll need to switch to a scanner ID system so issues like this don't happen. read more

A very low key place in Newport Beach, the bar area is huge with limited seatings. We came in on a weekday evening which was so quiet with only 4 people inside. Customers had to order food to be able to sit at the bar. We had shots of Patron silver, whiskey shot, strawberry margarita and draft Guinness. The Korean BBQ wings were very meaty and yummy. We'd just had dinner nearby so we took most of the wings to go as late night snack. Our bartender was very friendly and she was happy that this bar has stayed open. Some of the bars nearby got shut down cause they didn't follow guidelines. I felt pretty safe at this bar cause there was hardly anybody inside. Was out in Newport for the weekend with some friends for my birthday, decided to stop by and check the place out. Managers kicked us out. The reason they gave us was because somebody "made a complaint about us." We had literally just got there, were about to have a game of pool, & grab a drink. Ended up getting kicked out mid game & mid drink they really couldn't even explain why. Will never come back for this type treatment we received. We were the only Mexicans in the building, so definitely felt some sort of discrimination there. read more

Pizza here is really good. Their crust is fantastic. My friend ordered the large German Pretzel. The mustard they have with it sooooooo good. Sweet and tangy while having delicious mustard seeds in it. Their cheese with it is mild and complimented the pretzel. He also ordered the chicken strips and tater tots. The Stag is a bar near Newport pier, is a bit dark and cool which is a blessing when the sun is crazy hot. I only have been here Sunday mornings for their bottomless mimosa brunch. Parking can be challenging some weekends. The mimosas are really bottomless, which can be quite nice and their brunch food is delicious, some of it too spicy for me... Their best deal? I was obviously not expecting this to be a gay bar (we are in Newport Beach), but I have been shocked by the behavior of some of the guys at this bar, as well as the way the bar staff/security does little to maintain a safe space for their guests. Everytime I come here to dance with my girlfriends, the other men become very aggressive and this time violent with our group. I'm not looking for a gay club, but I think they need to do better to create a safe environment for all of their guests, regardless of race, sexuality, and gender.
