Stanley Steamer or Stanley Schemer? I called and scheduled a cleaning for two area rugs, responding accurately to every question asked by the agent. The technician arrived in a company truck, wearing a company uniform, but seemed rather morose. She did not smile and did not introduce herself. When she turned over the corner of each rug to check its fiber content, she abruptly told us that the original price quoted would now be double, since the hall runner would have to be taken to their facility and cleaned by machine. When we questioned why we weren't asked about fiber content over the phone, she said they usually forget to ask that question. We were startled to find out that the cost to clean just the one rug would be the original price quoted, since that was their minimum. We asked her to call her supervisor and request that he to waive the minimum and charge us the actual amount to apologize for the confusion. She said she'd call from her truck and let us know the outcome. When we looked out the window, a few minutes later, the truck was gone! She had driven away without responding! read more

DO NOT USE STANLEY STEEMER. This was one of the most uncomfortable and unprofessional service experiences we've ever had. The technician who came to our home appeared unprepared, erratic, and hostile from the start and barely attempted to perform the service we scheduled. Upon arrival he reviewed the pieces we wanted steam cleaned. He repeatedly tried to avoid doing multiple pieces we had called about, despite the appointment having been booked in advance with full details provided. He continually looked for reasons not to clean anything at all and it seemed pretty clear he was trying to wiggle out of doing the job. He finally agreed to steam clean the mattress and one of our couches. For the mattress he got really fixated on repeatedly insisting the stains on our mattress were urine, despite us explaining multiple times that we do not have pets and there was no such issue. The stains were small and located along the edges, which made his claim even more questionable. He seemed to be doing so in order to push odor protection, only to later realize we had already purchased it, proving he had not reviewed the job details at all. After "cleaning" the mattress, there was no visible improvement, it was just incredibly wet and stayed soppy for 72 hours, way longer than the 24 hours they said it would take to dry. He then claimed the stains would not come out because they were urine, despite making that determination before attempting any meaningful cleaning. Notably, he did not use any cleaning products at all, only our water. For the couch, he stated that his supervisor had recommended shampooing to address visible stains. After several minutes of watching him use only steam, we asked about the shampoo. He claimed he did not have any on the truck, contradicting both his earlier statements and what we were told when scheduling the service. When asked if he could obtain it, he gave evasive answers and then suddenly produced a bottle minutes later and said he could "spot clean," raising serious concerns about honesty and competence. He spent only a few minutes on the furniture, made a single pass on stains, refused to attempt additional passes, and declared he wasn't going to try because they just wouldn't come out. He refused to try other areas, cited time constraints and that we were not his only customers, and told us that if we wanted the furniture to look good we should just buy a new couch. The furniture was left extremely wet, with no visible improvement. When we asked reasonable questions, his demeanor became increasingly angry and intimidating. We ultimately asked him to leave because we no longer felt comfortable. He sarcastically said, "Thank God," packed up, then left his equipment on our porch. Moments later, he returned to our door to threaten that we would be sent to collections if we did not pay part of the bill, even though the service was incomplete, ineffective, and honestly scary. We told him we would address the matter directly with Stanley Steemer, as we did not feel safe allowing him back into our home. A manager eventually called but showed little to no concern about our experience, the technician's behavior, or the lack of service performed. Instead, he was fixated solely on collecting $135, despite the fact that no cleaning products were used, the job was not completed, and no results were achieved. We were then sent to collections for $135. We hired another steam cleaner after this, AlexCleanPro, who we highly recommend!! He removed all the stains easily that the tech claimed couldn't be removed and did all the furniture on our list. He was efficient and professional, taking less than 2 hours to clean everything. The other tech took around 4 hours to just do the mattress and half our couch aka just make it very wet. AlexCleanPro did our rug, uchaise, loveseat, and the mattress removing all stains, and the furniture all dried within 6 hours of the appointment. He said that Stanley Steemer technicians are paid by the hour and often have little incentive to actually do the work, and would prefer to drive around and give estimates. That explanation perfectly aligned with our experience. This experience was stressful, intimidating, and completely unacceptable. We are still feeling unsafe in our home, and regret inviting such an individual into our space. Stanley Steemer failed in competence, professionalism, honesty, accountability, and customer care. Save yourself the money, stress, and risk of having an aggressive technician in your home. Hire literally anyone else. read more

After using Stanley Steemer in Chicago for 10 plus years and never having an issue, we had a terrible experience with their company in Austin for our upstairs carpeted area. The tech seemed very nice and pleasant. However, I thought the carpet seemed very wet when she left. Five hours later when getting ready to go to bed, the carpet was still extremely wet and did not seem to have dried at all. I dragged out our personal carpet cleaner. I used the suck-up-the water function and had to spend an hour and a half going over the entire serviced area. I pulled up 5 plus gallons of water that was clearly not sucked up by Stanley Steemer. On top of it, the water was all dirty. So, I paid hundreds of dollars for Stanley Steemer to pump a ton of water into my carpet and not remove any of the dirty water or dirt? That's the exact opposite of what I hired them to do! To top it off, no one was available to discuss our problem until up to 48 hours later. For some mysterious reason, they couldn't make it, and I'd have to reschedule. Fine, I thought, but here's where it gets outrageous. When they finally showed up for the service, they had the nerve to insist that my three-person modular sofa was somehow a sectional. And oh, the price they now wanted to squeeze out of me skyrocketed from $182 to over $300! That's when I decided I'd had enough. I gave their service hotline a ring. According to their phone operator, these "techs" have the final say on everything, and there aren't even any clear guidelines in place for classifying a sofa. Can you believe that? BAIT & SWITCH! I booked online for 2 rooms of tile (approx 220square ft total) to be cleaned with a sealant added on top for $284 with an online promo. When their tech named Warren arrived (mind you, my window of arrival was set for 8am - 1pm and he didn't arrive until about 1:55pm) he proceeded to tell me that he would need to bill it as three rooms because I have a breakfast bar through my kitchen area so that is now a "dining room" by his definition. He also said he only likes to clean tile when he can apply both sealants that the company sells because then he doesn't have to come back for touch ups, all in all which would now bring me to near $700. I told him that was not within our budget, I wanted to stick with what I booked online and with whatever "third room" fee he has to charge. Warren said he could bring it down to $370 for everything today, I confirmed with my husband on the phone and told Warren we could proceed. He then says he needs to call his boss, he comes back and says it's actually gonna be a little over $500. What? Why did we just agree on $370 and now that's no longer valid? I asked to speak to his boss for clarification and to see if he can honor the price his rep just gave me (at which point Warren denied ever giving that price, however i let him know it's all most likely caught on our security cameras) and the short answer from the manager was basically no and he didn't really seem to care either way. Warren stated "I'm not doing the work for $370" and left. He murmured unprofessional things as he left my property which is caught on my security cameras. This was a very poor experience and poor customer service in part by the tech and by the manager. On 5.4.2024 we had a beautiful hand made wool rug picked up by a Stanley Steemer technician. My husband had the rug all rolled up, and had a brief conversation with this person. He signed the receipt and said it would be ready in about 2 weeks. At almost 3 weeks I called the local store asking about my rug. They don't have it. They are telling me it was never picked up. I escalated (because I could tell I was getting nowhere with the man at the local store) to Corporate. Well. It's not any better. They refuse to admit they lost it. They are stating it was never picked up. So if it was never picked up, why on earth would they make good on it. Right? This rug was inherited from my mother's estate. Not only was it beautiful, but it meant a lot to me. The company has not even apologized to me! They are calling ME the liar. I'm defending myself when I've talked to them! BEWARE Stanley Steamer!! Called them to get a quote for Air Duct Cleaning. They scheduled to come by my home this morning between 8:00-12:00 to get a quote. They told me the crew would call me this morning with a closer time when they would be here. At 1:00 I called the Stanley Steamer office & told them no one ever called or showed up & they were a "No Show Jones"! The Stanley Steamer Rep called the crew & said they were on the way & would be here by 1:30 at the latest. It's 2:15 & still no calls & they are still no-shows! I called at 2:15 & spoke with a manager. I Told him I had been waiting here all day to show up & the fact that no one even would call, said volumes about Snanley Steamer's Dependability, and to cancel the home visit for a quote. Stanley Steemer picked up my 5x7 area rug on September 23rd. I was told it would take 2-3 weeks for the cleaning process and they would call me when it was ready for delivery back to me. Didn't hear from them after 4 weeks so I called to find out when I could get it back. I was then told it could take up to 3-4 weeks and someone would call me back. No call. I've again called 2 more times and was again put off! It's now been nearly 7 weeks without any word from them. I'm furious and disgusted with the lack of customer service and apparent disregard of my property. I probably will never use them again for any type of service. First, my technician was AWESOME! This has nothing to do with him. However, I made a reservation online, and never got a confirmation email. I checked my inbox, spam and deleted files - NOTHING. What I selected online for grout cleaning (3 rooms) and a rug was not what the technician had on his screen when he arrived. He couldn't clean my rug (their psi was too high?) so he wanted me to send it off for weeks for a price that was 4x the amount. With the grout cleaning, what I expected to get price wise ended up costing me literally double what I was expecting to pay. While the tech was very good, they still were unable to get the entire room completed. I used them back in 2021, and now I remember why I will never use them again. I let him come on in and he went so fast through here and since I was sick in bed and paid him with a tip.. I've had good experiences with Stanley. Over the years I have been on warranty plans, had rugs cleaned/deodorized, tile and wood cleaned, and couches cleaned. Only once did I have an issue with deodorizer not working, and I think it was because they had changed formulas. My only other impression is that they don't pay their crew enough. I was told on more than one occasion that they were only get paid on what they uplifted on the job and that I should hold back when submitting my initial request. Moved a 10 seat dining room, loaded up rug and relaid 2 days later and replaced all furniture on little blocks so furniture would not wick up water. Took their time and did right. read more

Very disappointed!!! We called to have our tile and grout cleaned. Our appointment time was 2pm - 6pm. They finally showed up just before 8. They said our grout had allot of issues and they would not be able to clean it very well. (And let me tell you they didn't!). They kept trying to sell me their grout coloring service for an additional 650 dollars. I said no. They did an average job at best. There was still dirty spots on the tile and we are going to have to go over all the tiles and finish the cleaning by hand. What a waste of our money. We are wondering if they did not do their best because they wanted us to do the grout coloring and left the grout lines looking so horrible. They even tried to convince us we could not paint the grout without first stripping the tile again. August 10, 2018: I've been a Stanley Steemer customer for more than twenty years. You guys have been one of the most consistently reliable companies in terms of the quality of the work and the people you send into my home. I have occasionally been moved to go out of my way to share compliments with you. Until today I had never had a bad experience with SS, and I certainly have never had reason to ask any of your employees to leave my home. I do not recall the names of the man and young woman who showed up here this afternoon. The male needs an attitude (and perhaps an energy) adjustment and some training in communication. The female probably needs to be censured. Either she didn't know I was standing behind her in the room, or she assumed that because I have a husband and daughter I would be okay with her feelings. She was wrong on both counts when she made a comment to her partner implying that this job seemed like a pain, but that "On the plus side, at least I don't have to go to some Queer Fest tomorrow." She turned around and knew she'd been heard. She apologized and attempted to explain her way out of it by saying she "didn't REALLY have a problem with it." She failed utterly. I know what I heard, and I know exactly what she meant, and she knows I know. I wanted to try to be patient with a young person who clearly needs to learn some things, but I was also struggling with the truth that one of the few things we can do to try to make the world a better, more informed an enlightened place, is to be responsible and purposeful about where to spend our money. I was still on the fence when the male showed me twice that he was a poor communicator, had a slothful attitude, and wasn't really interested in doing the work. At that point, I told the two of them that in all these years of using SS, I'd never had a bad team, and certainly not one that had come into my house and used words like "queer" in a very offensive manner. I asked them both to leave, and on their way out the door I told the young woman that she needs to get herself some education. I hope you'll help her with that. I might be willing to overlook today as an anomaly after years of good service, depending on how appropriately and how promptly you respond to this incident. UPDATE Sep. 19, 2018 To wrap up the story: Stanley Steemer did reach out to me in the form of a $150 gift certificate and note of apology from Gina Angone, their regional office manager in Chandler, Arizona. I sat on the note and the g/c for a while and then decided to give them another shot. It seemed like the fair thing to do after all these years, and I was pretty sure they'd be motivated to send their A-team and do a great job. I scheduled them for a 2pm-6pm arrival time today. To me, it seemed like a no-brainer that they should not send the same crew, but I still took the time to write a note in the online scheduling interface explicitly instructing them not to do that. When the doorbell rang at about 2:00 this afternoon, I was gobsmacked to see the same girl who had made the "queer" comment last time, with a different partner. I sent them away Maybe Gina Angone in Chandler, AZ, cares about retaining my business, but it's pretty clear that whoever is managing things in Austin could not possibly care less. They really did do a good job and given that the management is so interested in making the customer happy, I would definitely use them again. This was a frustrating experience because the online quote was considerably cheaper than the price I ultimately paid. I selected my services online and when the team arrived, they offered additional services to my husband as if that was what I had selected. It felt very shady to me the way they went about it. Even with the upgrade - the price was still $60 more than the online quote and nothing about the job had changed. I called customer service and left a message for a manager to call me back and no one ever did - which is ridiculous mismanagement and terrible customer service. Had to use fans on the carpet due to a flooding from the bathtub. The last day the guy left the carpet pulled up and when asked if he was going to fix it told me to do it myself because "its easy". If i realized they were going to rip my BRAND NEW EXPENSIVE carpet up for fans and not fix it when they were done then I would have done it myself. He also left the front door open when my cat was roaming around. In fact whenever he used the door he just left it open instead of properly closing it :/ not really satisfied with that since at this moment my cat is either hiding or outside.... I've used Stanley Steamer before and they were good. I ordered service on July 7th between 8am - 1pm. I received a text stating I could track the techs. I clicked the link but it didn't work. when it was almost 1pm, I called to see when they were going to make it to my house. The lady who answered the phone said I text back and said "changed my mind". I told her I didn't do that and I still wanted my rooms cleaned. Well, they squeezed me in around 2:30pm but were in and out in less than 30 minutes. It looked like they didn't clean at all!! For paying $164.00, it was a horrible job!!! I'm so pleased with the service today. I had two men show up were extremely kind and introduced themselves before just walking in my apartment. They explained what they were going to do and asked me if I had any questions. I joked and said wow I wish you did cars, and the older man says "yes ma'am we do". I said sold, thinking I was going to have to schedule another appointment he said pull it up and we will get it taken care of. I ran down pulled up my car and they did such an amazing job on it.
